The restaurant in itself is very clean and comfortable. We were seated promptly and our drinks were there right away too.. Our server was nice but she seemed like she was in a hurry to get our order and run away till it was time to throw our food down and get her tip. Our food took over an hour and our steaks were cooked less than average. I think they have potential but as of right now they are a 2-3 star restaurant and unfortunately just not very memorable. read more

I was in town for a work so wanted to grab a coffee before my meetings. bread + butter did not disappoint. It happened to be their first anniversary celebration the day I was there, so I took advantage of their discounted coffee and French toast (not that it's pricey anyway). They offered a couple kinds of coffee - appropriate but not over the top hipster :) The French toast also was yummy and appropriately sized; I didn't feel weighed down the entire morning. So it took me a while to stop in here to see what the fuss was about. Well, I'm glad I finally made it. Right off the bat the staff and owners were on hand to provide fantastic service. I ordered one of the best steaks I've ever had in this town. Good cut, cooked to a perfect med-rare, a beautiful piece of meat. My wife ordered the seared tuna. She's a weirdo and wants it cooked through, rather than just the traditional seared edge. The owner accommodated her rather odd request with no questions asked and prepared a brand new plate for her, which was above and beyond what any place could have been expected to do. I have been wanting to stop in at Bread+Butter for a while and finally had the chance to grab lunch there. They've done a remarkable job of transforming the old bank building into a trendy, modern, and beautiful restaurant. I ordered the Three Rivers club with pasta salad, my wife had the hot Italian on their homemade focaccia bread (which stole the show) and we had some chips and cheese for the table. My sandwich and pasta were excellent but oh that bread. The one complaint that I had was the their tortilla chips were stale. We ended up using using the focaccia bread to dip in the cheese sauce and I may special request that combo next time. We finished up our excellent lunch with one of Chef Lo's gooey butter bars. These things need a star on the walk of fame! Overall I had a really lovely lunch and look forward to coming back. read more

Yesterday was my husband's birthday and was wanting a good steak. So Bread and Butter was recommended to us. We had never eaten there so we thought we would try it out. Was our first time there and will be our last. We asked for our steaks to be cooked medium. They were so black that we couldn't eat much of them. Of course, when they are cooked black like this, they are too bitter to eat. Also, we got a salad as our second side and then we were charged over $2 apiece for them. We asked about bread to go with our meal and our waitress told us to get bread would be an extra $5.95. So, we paid $60 for our meal and a McDonald would have been better. But it wasn't about paying $60, it was about the quality of the meal. And we left the waitress a $7 tip. But like I said this will be our last time to eat there !!! We were in town for the night. Every place was busy due to an event at the railway museum. Our hotel clerk recommended this restaurant. Even though they were near closing and had been slammed with a big crowd, the waitress was very friendly and nice and efficient. My husband loved the steak tips and I enjoyed my medium cooked burger. I just moved to the area 10 days ago from Charleston, SC where I never ate a bad meal. My husband has been in the hospital here for the past week and I have been camping out here with him. I was in the mood for soup and looked up this place which was right around the corner. I just tried their Potato soup, lobster bisque soup & chicken/dumplings. OMG....the food I just had was AMAZING and the homemade bread & butter....to die for. Definitely not what I was expecting from a small town. Top notch food and good prices for the quality of food. After looking at all the restaurants in the area with the reviews and ratings we were excited to come here while we were in town. Not really sure what happened, we ordered our drinks and apps. Server was friendly and helpful brought drinks right away. Apps came out in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered fried pickles and primo fries based on reviews. Fried pickles were over fried but the spicy ranch was tasty. The primo fries were good. We had placed our entree ordered my buddy ordered steak tips with baked potato and broccoli. He got his dinner quickly and enjoyed it, said the steak tips were tender and good. I ordered mix and match 1/2 nutty fruity salad, 1/2 cuban and 1/2 pork pork chicken sandwiches. My buddy had received and completely eaten his dinner all our apps and were just sitting there...still no sandwiches and salad and we hadn't seen our waitress in over 20 minutes...another waitress i guess saw the look snd asked if we needed anything and I explained I still hadn't received my food and told her what it was. She hastily went to find out. Another 15 minutes went by...no food, no word. At this point it was over 45 minutes since i had ordered 2 1/2 sandwiches and a half salad! I finally got up and went to check on my food...they said almost ready...12 more minutes went by and I finally received my order. I received what I ordered. I ate the 1/2 nutty fruity salad which was good. Both 1/2 sandwiches I ordered had pulled pork on them which was extremely dry and the pork pork chick had bacon on it which was also very dried out and inedible. I asked what had taken so ling and was told too many orders of steak tips had back up the kitchen. There was less than 20 customers in the restaurant. People that came in way after us ordered ate and left before I got my dried out sandwiches and salad. Very disappointed after seeing the online and yelp reviews. And I never really found out what happened. Our waitress was friendly aside from not coming back for quite a while. Our total time here from entering to leaving was 1hr 41minutes. read more

I don't live here just traveling for work and thought it looked good to try out. The food is good but by the time I actually got my take out it was cold. My biggest frustration here is I called my order in at 7:15 and left the restaurant at 7:55... mind you this is a to go order. Not sure how long my food sat in the back since it wasn't hot when I got back to the hotel. I think what was annoying is everyone was busy cleaning and worried about closing at 8 that some guy in the back asked when the to go would be here and the waitress didn't know it was done. She even said that to another girl "why didn't anyone tell me it was done" and her response was " well I just told you". Here's the deal I worked at a restaurant for a long time so I get it but it is your job to keep checking and say hey let me see what's taking so long on your order. I legit got a sandwich, green beans, a salad, and dessert. This was my first and probably last experience with this restaurant. As a guest to see people more worried about cleaning, eating behind the counter, chit chatting and for my food to take as long as it did is just unacceptable. read more

We saw the reviews and decided to stop to help break up a 6 hour road trip. Really glad we did! They were really friendly and accommodating. They didn't seem to mind that our 3 year old and 7 year old were full of energy and VERY chatty (from sitting for several hours in the car). My husband had reservations about going. He was afraid it would be too "over the top" with their ingredients and feared he would find anything in the menu for his simple tastes, (he thought it looked too modern, LOL). Also, they has a large beer add on the front doors and he questioned whether it was a family friendly place. He ACTUALLY ADMITTED in the restaurant that he was WRONG! He really liked his 2 half sandwiches and sweet treats, and was actually full when we left. For reference, we came by on 7/26 a Friday afternoon at approximately 4pm. It was not busy but a full staff was ready, helpful and really friendly. (Likely for the impending dinner crowd.) I'm pretty picky about my chicken salad and it was great! Also the matcha on ice (xtra sweet for me) was SPOT ON!!! The kids loved their chicken and dumplings, too. The food was really good. We stopped while traveling through and wanted something relatively quick, but not fast food. We had a cobb salad, steak quesadilla, and a burger and all was of good quality. The staff was friendly but not overbearing. Yelp had a link to a free appetizer for checking in at the location, but they indicated that they had no knowledge of the promotion - so don't expect one if it's still listed. read more

I really wanted to love it but was disappointed. 1. Panera like prices for non-Panera like quality. 2. Ordered California salad and BLTA - no real avocado on either but a tasteless avocado like purée - main reason for this review. 3. Carrot cake was good 4. Tip - I don't like tip request at ordering when you just took my order and that's it - what am I paying a tip for (though later they clean off table) but ugh again not tip worthy. 5. I like the atmosphere but chairs are uncomfortable. 6. I'll go back but really hope they can serve food that is inline with their prices. 7. The bread and butter was 2 rolls that didn't taste homemade but the frozen heat up ones. They were warm and came with 2 butters regular and a pumpkin one. The regular butter was tasteless (really expected a great bread and butter as it's their name sake). Recommend a good yeast roll evan a Ryan's or Lambert type of roll would be nice for $3 cost. read more

We always stop by after floating the current river in van Buren. Always great service and fantastic food. We brought a large group in Memorial Day and they seated us in there side room and took care of a party of about 40 no different then a party of 2 great service food came out fast and was perfect will deft recommend to anyone in the poplar bluff area.
