And no, I don't need cheese, onions, peppers, or seventeen other things piled on top. Meat. Bread. Au jus. That's the test. A really good French dip should be able to stand on its own without getting dressed up for prom, and this one absolutely can. Despite how busy they were, the staff kept everyone moving quickly and efficiently without making you feel rushed. Great service, great food, and clearly a popular lunch stop. Now for my one gripe, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the food. The bathrooms are outside and around the back of the building. As a woman, being sent around the back of a building in an industrial area to pee feels a little less "lunch in Carlsbad" and a little more like the opening scene of a Dateline episode. Food? On top of that, the size of the bread was half that of my other sandwich, which is supposed to be the same size. The girl at the counter tried to tell me it was because my other sandwich had more veggies (even though they were both supposed to have the same amount) but I really don't think that should affect the size of bread they give you. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of accountability and the staff trying to convince me my sandwich was right when we were all looking right at it.
