This place's drinks were fine. The hot chocolate was a bit watery, but not horrible. The coffee was OK. Trouble starts when we order cold drinks. I get that preserving the sea by banning plastic straws in your establishment is a good idea, but there's a point where you go too far. This place makes you pay two extra dollars to buy a metal straw for your drink. That itself is aggravating enough on its own, but the real kick to the gut is when you're given a PLASTIC CUP with a PLASTIC LID made for a PLASTIC STRAW. And do you know what the best drink to consume during the summer is? ICED DRINKS. Of course they don't offer plastic lids or really any cup that requires a straw for the HOT chocolate, because using a lid that doesn't require a straw is only good for the unpopular drinks, as not many people will order a hot drink, right? At least change the lid so that it's not mandatory to get a straw. I mean come on, the plastic lids on the cold drink cups had a straw slot! To get a straw, we had to walk back to the car to get a Dunkin Donuts straw. The way this place feeds off of their parched patrons to make an extra two dollars is utterly ridiculous. TLDR: Go to Dunkin Donuts. They have actual straws for.... WOAH! THEY'RE FREE!! read more

I went to this establishment prior to them redoing it. Although I have been in Rhinebeck before, my visit at that time was my first to Bread Alone. The first visit was ok. I did not find the help friendly but they were not nasty either. The ambiance is nothing to speak of...cramped, cold and just plain ordinary. The food was ok for the price, as both items that were ordered (a wrap and sandwich) was tasty and nicely presented. However, this last visit on Saturday, August 12, 2023 was a totally different story. I went in with my son to order 2 sandwiches. When I looked on the menu, I did not see anything familiar from the last time. That is when I was told that they changed the menu. I also did see that they had redone the place. The prices were ridiculously expensive...I guess they had to pay for the renovation. I am from New York and their prices were comparable to NY or more. I questioned one of the girls behind the counter about the menu and she informed that they changed the entire menu. If it ain't broke don't fix it but I guess they do not live by that motto. I ordered the tuna and herb toast and my son ordered a herbed chicken sandwich. I asked if the tomatoes were fresh..they told me they only have roasted tomatoes. What? Who doesn't have fresh tomatoes? I asked about putting bacon on the sandwich, they told me it would be an extra $5. Are they kidding? I asked about putting avocado on the sandwich and was told it is an extra $4. Organic avocados at Wegmans or Whole Foods are not even $4 a piece. I passed on both and just ordered the sandwich. Both items were "to go." Imagine my surprise when we left the place and went to eat the food in the car before driving back. I was in shock. My son's sandwich was smaller than what I used to make him when he was in elementary school and my sandwich was thrown in a brown box. My sandwich was 2 pieces of burnt bread that had herb butter smeared on it (barely) and tuna on top that was dumped straight from the can. No mayonnaise, no celery, no taste. It was absolutely disgusting. I ate it because I did not want to take the time to go elsewhere as we were on a schedule and needed to leave. Wrong decision! I ate most of it and threw out the rest. Unfortunately later on that day into the evening, I became horribly sick with food poisoning. This place needs to be shut down permanently. The people that work there are nasty and the prices are outrageous. Save your hard earned money and time. read more

This place is fabulous. We went on Saturday morning and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Boy, was it worth it! I ordered an omelette with bacon, carmelized onions and cheddar cheese. It came out quickly and was overstuffed with ingredients. Eggs were done just right and the bread they make in-house was outstanding as well. My wife had a spinach, tomato and gruyere omelette and enjoyed hers equally as well. Top shelf coffee and excellent service make this an absolutely must try in Rhinebeck. read more

Lunch today at Bread Alone was a disappointment. I was ignored at the register until I asked "Where do I place an order?" three times. Placed the order for 1 Breakfast Burrito, 1 Smoked Salmon Bagel, 1 Cappuccino & 1 Coffee for $31.00. My Smoked Salmon Bagel was mostly cream cheese, w/ a single slice of cucumber and 2 very small, very thinly cut slices of Smoked Salmon - mostly a bagel and cream cheese for $15. My husband's Breakfast Burrito was mostly black beans & a bit of avocado - he couldn't taste any egg, cheese, sour cream or salsa and said the burrito itself was a tasteless mush. Coffees were fine. The restaurant wasn't clean. A customer allowed her two small children to run around the restaurant screaming and getting underfoot - that is when we left, although if I had not grabbed one of my elderly companions, she would have been knocked over by one of the small children allowed to race around the space. One would think management would have stopped this behavior. We will think twice before eating here again, if ever. read more

I love the bread here and their soups are really good. They used to have a chicken curry salad that was really good and so was their Mediterranean plate but they got rid of those and replaced them with other menu items. I would usually give this place 5 stars as I love their lattes. But today I went to get a latte, drive 15 minutes to get there and was so looking forward to it. When I got the latte it was a cup full of foam with a little milk. Not much as it felt very light in my hand. I asked for more milk and they did add some but was on the cool side .... Came in here with the family on Christmas Eve. This is my third time this week eating here but my first time dining at the restaurant in the back of the bakery. We came in here around 12:30 PM and this place was packed, the line out the door. They told us that they will call us in about 20 minutes for the next available table. We came back in 20 minutes, but we end up waiting just a little bit over an hour and we're about to leave and go to another restaurant, thank God we did not! They finally sat us down, the service was incredible, where do I begin. I met Katie, she was so adorable and dressed up as a Christmas tree. She was so helpful from the beginning till the end. Even though she was not our server, she kept us updated on when our table was going to be ready and she took the time to answer all my questions on the menu. Bella was our server With a smile, not only that she was a tentative, but she remembered our party of eight order without using a notepad . Very impressive, not one mistake. Loved her reindeer outfit too! They kept our coffee refills full. Ashley helped take out some of the food, she was very pleasant as well. All the entrées or top notch at the finest ingredients and it's pretty obvious that everything was fresh. The portions are incredibly large, it's very rare that I asked for a to go container. The best thing about this restaurant, is that they are a team player. Everyone works together to make everyone happy. I hate it when you go to a restaurant and ask for something other than your server, then they tell you, no problem let me go find your server.. They made a bad situation turn in a good situation with the incredible service, I will definitely come back again and again and tell all my friends. I had breakfast here last Sunday. I eat here every year when I attend the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. I'm not a big fan of the coffee, but the food is very good. This time I had eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast. Every part of the breakfast was well prepared. The bacon is thick cut and flavorful. The home fries are real potatoes still wearing their skins. The bread is made at Bread Alone and is multi-grain. I also love the breakfast burrito and the french toast. Friends swear by the avocado toast with a poached egg and the pancakes that have cornmeal in them. Be there early on a Sunday, because the restaurant fills up quickly. read more

Going back over 30 years now, this was a small mom & pop shop that made some of the best bread you'll ever have had. When their product started showing up in grocery stores in the region, we were excited to have it more accessible, yet concerned about how it simply couldn't be as good as the fresh from the oven on location bread we knew from them for all those years. It was still quite good, but realistically, not as good as on the spot. The issue, however, is as they grew, and renovated, the bakery itself turned into a bit of a hipster-type overpriced sandwich spot. Don't get me wrong, it's still very good. But not much better than a Panera anymore, and higher priced. I'm no longer inclined to stop there. I miss its more humble beginnings. Best bread around, and the prices were great too. Still 3*s because still very good bread. You're not likely to walk out of there complaining about the taste. Your only disappointment/reservation might be that it's at this point another overpriced sandwich shop. It works that gimmick well though. read more

I would of eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Cute casual spot with delicious food and great service. We sat on the back patio on a beautiful summer morning. We were quickly greeted, order two coffees-nice big cups and refills kept coming throughout our meal. I had the salmon on rye bread it was a large portion with all the fixings, very fresh and tasty. My daughter had the egg and cheese sandwich-large stuffed sandwich delicious, and my husband had the goat cheese omelet with home fries. He cleaned his plate it was so good! We went back the next morning and got a few items to go. Delicious lattes, scones, croissants and the macaroon- so fresh and amazing! I don't think you can make a bad choice here. Only negatives from me is that other customers were smoking right in the courtyard-where we were seated so that was unpleasant, and another patron had a dog which for me I'm not a fan of in a restaurant setting. A model company! I stopped in for lunch on my way to Catskill Animal Sanctuary. The food was delicious, but what stood out to me was the level of care that every employee took to provide the best possible customer experience. The staff were friendly, COVID-19 protocols seemed to be in place and enforced (frequent use of hand sanitizer by the staff, and wearing masks), and the countertops and floors were clean.
