I am writing this in the heat of the moment, so maybe I will rethink it later - but seriously I am SO IRRITATED right now. Let me start by saying: This bakery is 3 blocks from my house and 1 block from my work. In the year I have lived here, I've been at least five times a week, and spent an estimated couple of thousand dollars. In addition, I have steered manymany folks toward this place, I take meetings here, I send tourists here... basically I have been a fan. But the past two times I have eaten in the cafe portion (not the front bakery, but the sit down restaurant) - the food has been actually inedible. Like seriously... DISGUSTING. I'm not a person that can send things back without feeling like a jerk, so I just didn't eat. :-( Note: the table table near me DID send their food back last time I went. I just didn't, but I would have. But OK - I thought, I just won't go to the restaurant part for a while, maybe they have a new chef - whatever. The bakery is still yummy. Then today, a nice rainy Sunday afternoon, I brought a group of visitors - we were a party of 10. we wanted tea and coffee and pastries. The restaurant section was closed, and there was noplace to sit in the bakery section. I said, "Hey, can we just sit in the restaurant section - we won't get in the way, we don't need table service, we don't need anything cooked, we'll bus our own table, we just want to be able to buy a bunch of stuff and sit and chat out of the storm." "No." NO? Seriously? "No." But we don't need help ... we will just *buy a bunch of stuff* -- then *sit, not bothering anyone* -- then *clean up afterwards*.... "No. Doesn't matter. It's policy." So you don't care about serving ten guests? *shrug* OK you know what Bread Alone? I am done with you. read more

Franchise misery. Mediocre to poor food. Sanitized dining reminiscent of a hospital waiting room or school cafeteria. Terrible service. Abysmal. Much worse, inexplicable coffee. Train wreck, burning bus nightmare. Make it disappear. read more

Ordered a salmon sandwich bagel for $13 which had a sliver of salmon. This place used to be great. Last time I order this. Sigh....

This place is always consistent. Fresh made to order sandwich's or pre made if you're in a hurry. The service is always friendly and professional. They do a really good job of moving the line along when busy. A clean, well managed operation with many great options from baked goods, espresso drinks, sandwiches etc. organic and eco friendly. No complaints. read more

My relationship with Bread Alone is pretty much Take Out Alone. Always busy inside and out, if it's sunny, it's one of the gathering spots in town. Great lattes, bagels and treats with friendly staff. Good place to grab a sandwich or salad to go when you're rushed. read more

A model company! I stopped in for lunch on my way to Catskill Animal Sanctuary. The food was delicious, but what stood out to me was the level of care that every employee took to provide the best possible customer experience. The staff were friendly, COVID-19 protocols seemed to be in place and enforced (frequent use of hand sanitizer by the staff, and wearing masks), and the countertops and floors were clean. The next time we are in the area, we will be stopping by for another meal. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Good News for all Bread Alone fans. The expansion is complete. By leasing a storefront in The Courtyard, Bread Alone was able to expand into a sit down Cafe in addition to the turn and burn Bakery. The one time (so far) that i have eaten in the Cafe was after I had a root canal. Talk about needing some comfort food and I got it in the form of two eggs four wheat toast halfs and a good cup of coffee. I stop in at the Bakery at least four times a week and am always impressed by the quality of the soups sandwiches and pastries. Loyalty is key with another coffee shop diagonally across the street. But I have my favourite and that is Bread Alone. read more

I wish I could say the baked goods are good, they are not. The visuals work. However, everything made at this company and I have tried all the pastries and most of the breads are "built to last". Dry, dry dry is the operative word for all their offerings. Today, I purchased the Stollen, thinking perhaps a holiday item would encourage the use of butter or cream, alas it was not to be. A serious, non-commercial bakery is needed in Rhinebeck. read more

Not always easy to get worked up about a bread shop but this is a little different. In the back is a lovely cafe with an outside terrace. Brioche French Toast with Cinnamon butter and maple syrup, perfectly poached eggs and delicious cappuccino makes this a standout for anytime of day. Service perhaps a little on the slow side but it's worth it. Also they have a great selection of pies, biscuits and bread to buy. Mine is a 9" Rhubarb and Strawberry pie, made fresh that morning. Beautiful. If you are in the area and looking for something casual and delicious, try this place. read more

Classic classic Hudson valley bread bakery/coffee shop/lunch place. Keep doing what you do! Everything is delicious, clean, and sweet!

If you are traveling through Rhinebeck you have to stop at Bread Alone Bakery! I recently purchased a rye sourdough bread, and haven't been able to find another bakery that compared to the quality. The pastries are mouthwatering! I also had a roasted tomato chicken soup that was fantastic. I can't wait until the next time I am in the area to try something else on the menu. read more

Omg they do breakfast right. My family has been buying bread from these guys since they just had the one bakery in the middle if nowhere in Boiceville, and now they have their lovely dining cafés in Rhinebeck and Woodstock. This place is quality. read more

No, you wouldn't want to live by Bread Alone - particularly since their chocolate cookies are fantastic enough to make your head explode. Not too sweet, not too chewy (or cakey), just pure, kick-your-butt-good chocolate flavor. Serious addiction potential here. And yes, the bread is also excellent and reasonably priced. The sourdough round give you a zillion slices and costs about $3.50. Get there early for the best selection - otherwise you'll be alone without bread (sorry, that's was really poor but I couldn't resist...). The only drawback is that the place is pretty tiny - maybe half a dozen small tables and a few seats at the window. And while it's not an uncomfortable place to sit and eat, it's not exactly the kind of place where you'd want to plunk yourself down for a few hours with a good read, coffee, and food. Which, considering those cookies, is probably a good thing. read more

I went at what I thought was an off time (11:30 am), and the place was already packed, both in the cafe section and the dining room. I chose to sit in the back, and was greeted by a very cheerful hostess. My server was even more friendly and attentive. I ordered coffee, which came right away in a big mug. It was decent, but maybe slightly sour. I ordered the breakfast tacos. The description made it sound better than it actually was, but it was still pretty good. When I've eaten at the cafe on previous visits, the service has been pretty good, but the food mixed. The egg sandwich is tasty and cheap, but the bahn mi overpriced and inauthentic. The meat tasted like a dry, weirdly flavored sausage. On food alone, I'd give 3 stars, but the service bumps it up to four. read more

It's unusual that we eat at the same restaurant twice within 1 vacation, but Bread Alone has that honor. My breakfast of homemade granola, organic yogurt and fresh fruit brought me back for dinner the next night. I thoroughly enjoyed the lobster gnocchi. It was an appetizer portion but I enjoyed it as my entree (with a salad). My husband's panini looked really good too, but he didn't share so I can't say for sure! read more

Good pastries but only decent bread and terrible bagels. Unfortunately they always find a way to screw things up: - french toast has no texture because they use much too fresh bread - bacon arrives cold - quiches have fantastic flavor but are microwaved and soggy :-( :-( - ham and gruyere sandwich has soggy lettuce on it There seems to be a general lack of respect for the food read more

What a great find! My first time there on Friday And many more to come Place packed. But service quick and friendly Stopped in to get some pastries for relatives coming over later that day Server very helpful as I asked questions And the bread!! Organic multigrain - excellent And later everyone enjoyed everything I bought. read more

We walked in here to use the bathroom after walking around town for awhile. I ordered hot apple cider, a canelle and two loaves of sliced semolina to take home. They were having a Sinterklaas event throughout town. We thought it was very festive and almost every shop had decorated with paper stars. Pricing is normal for a bakery. Bread didn't go stale right away so thumbs up for that! read more

I'm giving this place high marks--because the overall experience is almost always excellent. They are consistently the best breakfast/lunch venue for groups, and they can accomodate many kinds of customers: quick to-go orders, cafe seating up front, sit-down dining in the back, and outdoor seating when Hudson valley weather cooperates. The food is good--but its their consistently friendly and accommodating service--something often lacking in Dutchess County--that sets them apart. read more

Dan the owner seems to have abdicated. It used to be he was really concerned about quality. These days underproofed or over baked, sometimes both for the same loaf, is very common. The bakers send out everything no matter how burnt or flat a loaf might be. Dan, if you ever find your way back to your bakery, perhaps you could rebuild some of the high quality you used to be so proud of. Until then I hope an upstart baker takes advantage of your surrender to mediocrity and indifference to quality. read more

Went here for brunch the other day and what a lovely spot! If you head out back you can sit and eat in their restaurant. Had the salmon works on rye and it was overall very good! I would've liked more cream cheese/overall heft to the toast but it was a nice light and yummy meal! Had a cappuccino that was also good. Service was prompt and friendly. Would go again. read more

Love this place. Unique and delicious. Variety of salads, sandwiches, cafe beverages, pastries and breads. Got a ham and brie with apple sandwich on cranberry ciabatta with whole seed mustard. So good! Also got a lemon scone (great) and an iced chai latte (average). Would recommend and will for sure be back. read more

Stopped in here early January before an interview and was so impressed with the selection and the quality of food and coffee. I loved my croissant and bear claw. We ordered loaves of bread as well and brought them back to NC-where I was living. Received so many compliments on the bread! Great ambience and customer service! read more

Delicious bakery! This place is a gem of the town. They have samples of a few pastries in the front, so you can try some to help make your decision. Everything is delicious and fresh. Coffees and teas are nice too. Highly recommend stopping in. read more

You used to be 4 stars, but you've cut back your menu so much that I hate ordering from you.

I really enjoyed this quaint restaurant! We are at the Rhinebeck but I know of a few other locations throughout the Hudson valley. The place had a great atmosphere and the food was inexpensive. I had the burger which was grass fed and topped with cheese, pickles, onions, tomato and lettuce. The only thing I would say was the portion size was on the small side. I plan to be back soon! read more

Fabulous breakfast and great breads to take home for the week. Avocado toast is superb!

Great cozy cafe type spot that offers a vast array of hot and cold coffee type beverages. However, what sets this place apart is their pastries and freshly baked breads! Organic whole wheat baguettes to olive loaf, it seems as if they have it all! I chose the almond croissant and was not disappointed, it paired well with my vanilla iced coffee! Definitely worth checking out if you're in town, for your early morning coffee or late afternoon snack! read more

Cute place! Loved the location and the option for outdoor seating. Bread Alone has such a great presence in the Hudson Valley so I was excited to eat at their restaurant for lunch. It was pretty busy, so the service was a little slow but the waitress was friendly, only checking on us once. Food was priced VERY reasonably, and taste was good nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about... Just middle of the road lunch with good breads. Would go back and try other menu items (I ordered mozzarella basil pesto sandwich). read more

I went in 20 mins before closing and the staff was still super cool. I grabbed a ham samich and some coffee, both of which were extremely satisfying. I had immense issues, troubles that is, not purchasing one of everything in the case. Take a look at the mouth watering selection and I have no doubts you will be satisfied when checking out this spot!!!! read more

This place has ok food but it's not REALLY a bakery as the bread and bagels etc. are not made on site. It is frequently busy which shows its popularity, fwiw. The prices are ok. The coffee is fine. My main issue is that they let people smoke out front and people also leave their dogs tied up outside while inside eating. This creates a nuisance for those who live in the neighborhood. read more

A Rhinebeck village standard. They have matured into a solid bakery and snack spot. Their breads are very good though on weekends you need to come early because some sell out. read more

Bread Alone is a quaint little spot in the adorable town of Rhinebeck, New York. I went there, and something was wrong with their specialty coffee machine so that was sad, but the regular coffee was tasty! Food was alright - sadly better than the service. Service was not on par . Would give a second chance! read more

Bread Alone Bakery - Bread Alone Bakery is a perfect spot for an intimate breakfast setting. Overlooked the courtyard while having Breakfast with my Mother. - Bakeries Near Me - Rhinebeck, New York

I almost don't want to get the word out too much, but Bread Alone Bakery is an outstanding spot for brunch in the Mid-Hudson Valley. I scoped this place out on a weekend trip with friends where we stayed the night in Saugerties. I knew I wanted to check out Rhinebeck on Sunday morning, and Yelpers pointed me in the direction of Bread Alone. I had assumed it would be a small to mid sized cafe, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had expanded into a larger restaurant space in the back that felt bright and airy with large, full length glass doors. I ordered a spinach, goat cheese, and caramelized onion omelet with a side of turkey sausage and a latte. I have to say, the latte was truly outstanding and 3x better than anything you can get at Starbucks at half the price. The omelet was exquisite - I am always happy to see one cooked to a beautiful fluffy texture with no visible browning on the surface, proving that perfect technique was used. The service was authentically friendly, as opposed to the fake friendly I always get in NYC, and the price of our meal was about 20% less per person for something comparable in Manhattan. Overall, Bread Alone Bakery is a real gem! read more

We came here every day this week while visiting and every single day the women who served us couldn't have been nicer and the iced coffee is absolutely delicious! read more

Semi-assembly line food disguised as upscale and chic. And certainly not cheap! Living in Rhinebeck as I do, I fail to understand the "state of mind" that attracts customers to this place in droves. OK in a pinch, I suppose... especially if you're looking for lunch in a town that barely serves this meal, especially mid-week. Bread and baked goods also ok, but there's much better around (and priced more fairly) if you know where to go. read more

The Best breads in the state of NYC. Everything is organic and the service is excellent. I would highly recommend the place.

They got my order wrong, I was charged for and did not receive 2 croissants and an almond cake. I am very disappointed in this as it's is in the integrity of a business to receive what you pay for. read more
