I've been to a lot of restaurants both in and out of San Francisco, and the Brazen Head is by far one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The old world cozy atmosphere, the amazing bar, and the quaintness of the small size make this restaurant instantly appealing! I've always had great service and the food is excellent, although I must admit that I almost always order the New York pepper steak. Enjoy going to the Brazen Head for a cocktail. Very friendly staff and I like the atmosphere. Have gone a couple of times with out-of-town guests for dinner and have generally found the food pretty mediocre. Love prime-rib but theirs has been too dry and overcooked on my last visit. Vegetables appear to be prepped will in advance, including the baked potatoes. I'll stick to the cocktails. read more

Have come here a few times late at night. Most professional bar and waitstaff I've come across in San Francisco. I mean really good. Bartender has a great read on all of his patrons and a rapport with most. Drinks are strong, but not overpowering. The food is excellent as well. The food was mediocre. My partners prime rib was undercooked and chewy. The flavor was just off I got the salmon it was really good cooked perfectly flaky and delicious. I was just really disappointed in the flavor of the meat. My partner is sick this morning it's probably because of the meat. Our server wasn't attentive and didn't even ask us if we wanted water AT ALL. I had to ask another server for water she was very pleasant. The crowd there was pretty good until some instagram influencer sat next to us and started going on an on about how much adderall she was on and the three guys with her just kept agreeing about how amazing adderall is. Would not recommend this place. The bartender also smelled like cigarettes like how can I smell your breath from like 4 feet away!!! The best part of the restaurant was the red lighting. I definitely felt like I was in the 70s. But because it's such a small restaurant it's very loud. Wouldn't really recommend as a date spot. read more

I'm all about costumer service and this place had it all. The host was the most impressive; showing that his time was worth spending on us with regards to accommodating our requests. I have been frequenting the Brazen Head for many years. I am from the East Coast and this little gem is a comparable spot. The mashed potatoes are my favorite coupled with a great salad and amazing garlic bread. That's just the food. The best reason to stop by is that the service is outstanding. I have known these guys for years, yet still, from the first day I entered this underground secret, I was treated like a VIP. The wine selection is just the cherry on top of the sundae. P.S. Me and my wife went here for a friday dinner last Friday Feb 25 and ordered escargot for our apps and cezar salad they are really nice when my wife ask if they put anchovies and they will add them if we want and absolutely got her request. I ordered Prime rib and NY peppercorn steak for my wife and both of them are superb. Service is excellent, ambience is excellent too good for date nights. I highly recommend this place. Oh one more thing we end up going to this place due to our groupon and will definitely coming back. read more

Do not go to this joint!! Not worth the overpriced mediocre food. The service wasn't good, the waitress did bare minimum. They wouldn't even sit us till the fifth person (who was parking) came in, which made us wait longer. The bathroom was placed right in front of the bar, which was really awkward and uncomfortable. The coffee liquor drink was disgusting, the coffee was stale and it was in a tiny cup for about $10. Another beef was that I ordered my sandwich with no onions, so you'd think they would tell me that it was served on an ONION roll!! The waitress wasn't caring or much help. Prices were too high and the food wasn't worth it. It was loud and just a bad experience. Go somewhere else. read more

I've been living in the neighborhood for a long time but had never been to The Brazen Head. I went after buying a living social deal and was pretty excited. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. They don't take reservations so we got a drink at the bar and were seated before we even got half way through the drinks (granted it was mid week). The food was excellent. I got the prime rib and my date got the veal. The service was good, though we had to wait a while to pay the bill. A guy who looked like the owner came over to help us. My only complaint is that they don't take credit cards. It's 2012 and we are in a major city. I work in retail and know all about what it costs to accept credit cards, it's not that expensive to pay the processing fees. When you pay with debit they stand over you with a machine and ask how much to punch in for the tip. A little awkward. But all told I'll be coming back again soon. read more

We recently moved into the Union Street-Marina district of San Francisco. Being exhausted from the move we decided to have dinner at a near-by restaurant we had heard good things about: The Brazen Head at 3166 Buchanan Street at Greenwich. We heard somewhere that The Brazen Head is owned by the same folks who own Liverpool Lil's at Lyon and Lombard where we had eaten frequently when we lived in that neighborhood. When we went looking for The Brazen Head, however, we were surprised to find that they don't even have a sign outside; but the place seemed pretty full on a week day evening; and we got seated almost immediately. The restaurant/pub part is separated from the bar section; so we were able to carry on a conversation without shouting. For a first course I ordered The Brazen Head's spinach salad, then chicken masala for my main course. The spinach salad was so large and filled with delicious blue cheese, toasted walnuts, and other good things that it almost served as a meal by itself. So when my main course arrived I ate the rice and veggies but brought the whole chicken masala breast home in a doggie bag. (Sliced up over caesar salad the chicken made a satisfying second meal.) And the price for all that good food plus a glass of wine was way less than I would have expected to pay downtown. read more

A fine meal, on the upside price wise but worth it. After a short wait on a Wednesday evening we enjoyed a bottle of wine, corn soup, the New York pepper steak and the pork chop. Absolutely delicious. I've only dined here after 11 PM, and several times this past year. The ambiance is dark, woody and tucked away; perfect for conversations and although it does appear to be tight quarters you actually can't hear anyone else outside your party. Or perhaps is it because all of the people I hang out with are loud and I am hard of hearing? I would recommend getting some kind of a steak, or a few things off the appetizer menu if you something lite. I personally like the escargot, some of the salads, and steaks. Best food ever, and the service is fantastic. We've had every item on the menu and don't have any complaints about any of it. I highly recommend a cup of coffee and some Chocolate Crème De le pot after dinner, it's a combination to die for. We drive from Sacramento every chance we get to eat here. I also suggest getting a room across the street at the Capri Motel, (its much nicer than it looks on the outside, trust me) so you can have a wine sampler off the menu, 3 big classes for $15 and its good wine. read more

We moved into the neighborhood a little over 18 months ago. I've also been curious about this place with no sign, but we have a toddler and this doesn't fit the list of places we usually go to. The other day I had a colleague in town and figured I'd take him here. It was excellent! We both got steaks, which were cooked to perfection. The sides and the appetizers were excellent.
