Glad I found this spot on Yelp because my husband and I happened to have a late evening arrival to our hotel in the city and the concierge desk was telling us that most places close for dinner around 9:00-10:00pm. This place is open into 2:00am!! I can appreciate that! The ambiance and location was low key, very intimate, good for date night and the food was excellent too! I wanted a steak and ordered the petite filet minion with a baked potato. They did a perfect medium cook on my steak and I even decided to indulge in the chocolate creme de pots dessert which was so rich, I couldn't finish it all but would if I could have! You know a place is good when you find it by word of mouth and they don't advertise too much from the location standpoint. I would have missed it walking by if I didn't pay attention to the address number! We would definitely come back here again when visiting San Francisco! read more

As many have said, the burger is simply fabulous. The Brazen Head is a cozy little place that, remarkably, does not seem overrun by tourists. In walking distance of where I live, very non descript. no sign outside, but everyone pretty much knows it Brazenhead. I took my last date here, it comes across very quaint and nice without seeming like youre trying too hard to impress. Its in the middle in terms of ambience so while she came very dressed up, casual clothes would have been fine as well. My friend said its not a place for a first date, but more so a hidden place to take a mistress or lover, haha. Anyways, she smiled and laughed alot so she seemed to have a good time and wasnt offended, lol. The food filet and salmon were both very good and the vino went well with everything. wow - what a great hole in wall place!!! The salmon was to dieeee for! so so so good and I'm very picky when it comes to my fish. I love how they pan seared it - giving that salty crust. yummy. my husband ordered the pepper crusted steak, and he said it was ok.. he wouldnt order it again. I asked him, what was wrong with it because it looked good.. he explained that he could tell by the quality of the meat by just cutting it.. cheap meat because there were fat here and there.. the Flavor was ok ok.. I love brazen head. The place can barely be spotted if you dont know what your looking for as there doesn't seem to be any signs outside pointing it out. The inside is very dark and intimate, perfect for a date. My schedule is somewhat sporadic and sometimes I find myself not having eaten all day and getting done with work very late. At this point I feel the least I can do is reward myself with quality food for my first and only meal of the day. For this reason they have the brazen head. This is great food, the complimentary garlic bread is great and so is most anything on the menu especially considering they serve until 1 am daily. The peppercorn steak is prob my favorite but like I said you can't go wrong with anything on their menu here. Only downside is that they only take cash. read more

My group of friends are trying to go to new and different places than we usually go. We went to Brazen Head on a Tues and had great service and the food was very good. The Host made our night. He was very friendly and did what he could to get our large group in. The Prime Rib was wonderful, and the bill was very very reasonable. I highly suggest this place. My boyfriend discovered the Brazen Head a number of years ago, but we have been going together for over a year! Its one of my favorite steak places in the city. I love that its open so late because when we get off work most everyrthing else is closed. Its a nice romantic place to eat dinner with a special someone. Delicious steak. Great food all around! Good, but average cocktails, nothing too special on the drink end. The restaurant had a magical feel to it, from the dimly visible entrance to the old world bar feel. Great place for a quit dinner date or a few drinks at the bar with good local fare. read more

Not that great... Pork chop and french onion soup were worth but filet mignon and sides were kinda bleh... the wait was about 25 minutes when we were first in line... Waitress we had didn't tell us any specials (don't know if there were any) or what sides there were or if they could change or refill water... just overall will not be going back read more

Had some late night eats with my wife here a couple weekends back. The chimichurri skirt steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. About as melt in your mouth as a skirt steak can get. Delicious dish all around with the sides that come with it. Excellent old school atmosphere. Next time I'm in S.F. I'm coming back. read more

What a great Anniversary Dinner we had!! I looked up Steak places, and didn't want any of the whoop de doo stuffy type places for an $80 steak. My wife had their small Fillet mignon, and loved it. I had their 14-oz New York Pepper Steak, really very good. I normally don't like anything on my steak, the pepper sauce was and is the only thing I'll try. It made the Steak!! We will be back, nice small place, very classy without being stuffy. Remember, it's cash only. Brazen Head is a warm hopeful becon of light shinning in the distance of a town that shuts down at 11:00 o'clock at night. An 'industry only' restaurant, it sits inconspicuously on the corner of bucannan and grenwich with no sign and only christmas lights on bushes to mark it. Inside it is super romantic with small intimate tables that have the feel of a box car on a train. The wait staff are the best ever, friendly, unobtrusive and down to earth. You can get a great steak or the best escargot and the last seating is at 1:00 am. Great date restaurant. read more

A friend once told me this was the perfect spot to bring a mistress given the Motel 6-like hotel next door. On top of that, the ambience is rather dark and it would generally be hard to be "noticed" at this great restaurant. Anyhow, in spite of what my friend alluded to, this is one of the finest "low-pro" restaurants in town, especially since they serve food until 1am. The Brazenburger is arguably the best burger in town, complimented with mashed potatoes instead of French fries. The "surf and turf" is also fabulous when in season and their appetizers are quick yummy as well: French onion soup, escargot, and cooked garlic. Overall, this place is the bomb and you don't have to get dressed up in spite of is being close to the Marina. Whether it's a first date or a secret rendezvous, I highly recommend trying to get the northeast table...it's the most romantic. read more

The Brazen Head is by far our favorite neighborhood spot. Whether we stop by for a drink after eating/drinking elsewhere or come to get dinner, its always perfect. Great bartenders and wonderful restaurant service. The classic menu items like the Brazen Burger never fail. I have found the biggest challenge with this place is wanting to tell everyone about it but selfishly not wanting it to be overwhelmed by outsiders. You should stop by though. read more

Visited Brazen Head 5/26/2011 for our 22-year anniversary dinner. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Their friendliness earned the place one star all on its own. We ordered martinis to start and they were well done. We ordered the baked garlic, camembert and prosciutto appetizer. The prosciutto was "off" and was simply inedible. The garlic was creamy and caramelized. The camembert was delicious but there was a skimpy portion. We skipped the salads and went straight to the entrees. I ordered the peppersteak and my wife ordered veal scallopini. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the sauce over the top was a rather bland brown sauce that detracted from the meat rather than enhancing it. I would order it on the side, of at all. My entree was served with mixed veggies and mashed potatoes, both of which were good though not extraordinary. My wife's veal was excellent. Her side dishes included the same veggies but plain white rice instead of mashed potatoes. The white rice added nothing. Blah. For dessert we shared a flourless chocolate cake, which was excellent. All in all, we enjoyed Brazen Head but I'm not sure we'd return with all the options out there. It's worth going once. read more

Local bar, friendly people, great service, excellent menu. I was excited to take hubby out for his BDAY, so found this local place on yelp. Had a couple of drinks at the bar, reasonably priced, no short pours here. Meal was exceptional, prime rib for the guy, scallops for myself. The sauce and veggies accompanying my dish was so yummy, great way to pair with fish. Only downside was the salad was not great, needed more parmesan cheese and dressing, but it was the only disappointment of the eve. We will come back when in the city again. Went here on a Monday with no reservations (don't think they take them?) with the boyfriend and a livingsocial coupon. All in all, a pretty good experience. We were seated immediately and served very quickly after ordering. The bf ordered the prime rib and I ordered the salmon, both of ours coming with a potato dish (his baked, mine mashed) and some sauteed veggies. The veggies were okay, something most people could make at home but the prime rib and salmon were wonderful. Potatoes are fairly difficult to mess up (or mess up bad enough that people won't eat them) and their dessert menu was impressive, though we didn't try anything. Plenty of chocolate and simplicity on there, which is what I prefer to a princess cake, fondant or otherwise. Without the coupon, our meal was roughly $90 ($50 bottle of champagne) so without alcohol, an affordable dinner. Tip: Not sure on their corkage but some of the labels I saw you can just buy at Safeway and bring there, usually a cheaper way to go at most places despite bottle price plus corkage. read more
