Walking into Bravadas was incredibly intimidating for me because I'm completely new to toppers and wigs after experiencing significant hair loss from GLP-1 medications. From the moment I met Mequeda, she made me feel comfortable, understood, and genuinely cared for. Her customer service is absolutely amazing. She immediately knew which human hair topper would work best for me and custom-colored and blended the roots perfectly to match my natural hair. She has an amazing eye for color! When I picked it up a week later, I was honestly amazed - it was an exact match and blended so seamlessly that no one can tell I'm wearing a topper. The entire process was professional, timely, and exactly as promised. I do want to mention that this is not an inexpensive, mail-order or mall store wig experience, and there are certainly more affordable options out there but not of the same quality. In my personal opinion, with wigs and toppers, you truly get what you pay for. The quality, customization, expertise, and confidence this gave me were absolutely worth it. I even brought in a topper purchased online (which I loved!) and Mequeda offered to wash it and adjust the color. The end result is also perfect perfection. Mequeda's talent, honesty, and kindness made what could have been a very emotional and uncomfortable experience feel easy. I truly cannot recommend Bravadas and Mequeda enough. My sister went here to buy a wig for chemotherapy related hair loss. We made an appointment here before her chemo started and came here. During the initial intake, my sister explained to the employee why she was looking for a wig. When I initially called the store to inquire, the man I spoke to lauded their experience with wigs for chemo related hair loss. You would think that with all their experience, they would take that into account when deciding what wig size you should get especially if they're fitting you for a wig before your hair falls out like my sister did. Fast forward and my sister is now more than four weeks out from when she ordered her human hair wig from here (which isn't cheap, may I add). The wig didn't fit her at all bc now her hair had fallen out. The employee tried for over an hour to resize it for her and was unsuccessful. We're still waiting for a resized wig at this point. I was very disappointed by our experience here. read more

8/28/21 Wanted to check out this store because I wanted to know what the feel of synthetic hair vs real hair feels like. Some of the synthetic did feel like real hair, but on the end, once I touched it, it was all over. a blond mannequin with short hair who reminded me of my boss Helen. I wonder what she would say about that? Talking to the manager, I got permission to take some photos of the Wigs. Being in this shop gave me a better understanding of the products I have been writing about for my stories. I personally like the human hair vs the synthetic hair. I did have one question regarding taking care of the wigs should you need to wash it. The lady on the phone said to wash the human hair in cold water. You can use shampoo and conditioner if you like. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF HEAT ON THE HAIR. LET IT AIR DRY. The synthetic hair can be washed too. No hot water, No heat can be used. Air drying without heat is fine. The human hair is much more expensive so please keep this in mind before buying. This place has private rooms so you and the employee can help you understand the fundamentals of taking care of your wig. I did not see any abnormal hair colored wigs here, but that doesn't mean there aren't any here. I would like to think the manager here for her assistance. read more

I headed there with my Mom who has thinning hair. The employees were welcoming and the store setup was very open and the layout allowed us to easily see the options available. We had an appointment and they showed us to our private room to discuss wigs, the options available and to better understand my mom's preferences. This was such a great experience as we did not feel rushed and they explained everything to us (we are newbies!). My mom had the biggest smile on her face when we found the right wig. About one year ago I walked in the store without an appointment. The sales consultant was not pleased that I did not have an appointment even though no one was in the store. Let me start by saying that I am an anxious person, and that this would have been my first wig. I had an appointment on a Friday, and showed up about two minutes early. When I arrived there was no one in the main area of the store, however I could hear people talking in the back. I waited in the main area of the store for about 10 minutes and no one came out of a back room to check on me or to assist me. (I know there were at least two employees in the store as I saw them walk in together earlier). I'd been looking for a source for a high end topper, I've tried purchasing multiple toppers online (mostly disappointing) and I'd been to more than my share of wig shops (quality, inventory lacking). I WILL NOT SHOP HERE AGAIN. It saddens me to say since I am an established customer. After my experience this week I will not be back. In a little more than a year I have purchased two Toppers from Murquades, she was great and it was a very positive experience Last weekend I came in with my sister (new customer) for a scheduled appointment to purchase a third Topper for myself and a first one for my sister. At one point my sister said, "Is she always like this?". We both chose the same Topper and M. said she would check on availability and call on Tues. When I did not hear from her I called the store, no answer. I called again 30 min before closing, M answered and said she didn't know and would call in the morning. Again, no return call. I called twice but only spoke to an assistant. On the third try M answered, when I asked about the status she said, "I don't remember". She clearly made no attempt to call. Four days later I tried again for the 6th time only to learn that at no point did she make any effort to complete the sale. She also showed no interest in an established customer or in a new customer. I am completely bewildered by this whole experience which ended with my sister and I purchasing from another shop. read more

Review update: okay I apologize that if I misunderstood when she said special shop, but, I did not say that I need a costume wig or inexpensive wig. I just want people be nice and maybe tell me that they can call me or I call them if they have an appointment canceled. Instead of suggesting me where should I go!!! First, when she saw me she said: they don't accept walk in, only appointment because they don't have enough staffs today. She was very cold and not much interesting about answering. Then I asked her if they have an appointment for tomorrow noontime. I told her I want to get a wig for a party for this weekend. She said they are full booked till next Monday. I said okay, so could I try to walk in tomorrow or any day of this week to see if they can help me trying out some wigs that I liked because I'm willing to buy a wig. she said she is not sure because they are very full for this week. Then she said: you can go to the other wig shop, she mentioned one in Springfield. I said okay but it's a bit far for me. BUT, Would if she say: maybe you can call us before you come and see if they are available or get my contact information so they can call me if someone cancelled the appointment. I went with my aunt, who has worn a wig for many many years due to a health issue, because she had always had good customer service from this facility.... until today! We walked in after she had called them 2 times and were rudely told that since she did not have an appointment they could not give her a private room to try on the wig that they were holding for her. I purchased a synthetic topper from Bravadas Wigs in Fairfax, VA 6 years ago and had a fantastic experience with the store at that time. I have extremely fine hair and bought the topper for when I had bad hair days. I have since had my hair color changed and can no longer use the original topper for that reason. I visited Bravadas in early March 2022 to try to order a topper close to the hair color i now have. It took 3 visits to the store before a good match could be ordered. I assumed it would take a few weeks to order and receive the new topper. I paid for the purchase on 3/31/22. I was telephoned later that day and advised it would take 2 months to receive the topper. I checked 2 times before that date to see if the order was still on track. When I called on 3/28/22 I was advised that the topper would arrive on 6/13/22. I did not receive a call by that date so I called the store on 6/20/22. I was told that they would check with the manufacturer and I would receive a return call by the end of the day. I did not receive a return call from the store and I called them back 5 minutes before closing. I was advised that the topper would not be shipped until 12/22. I told the clerk that I couldn't wait that long and would visit the store for a refund. The clerk told me that I never paid for the topper and could not be issued a refund. I visited the store the next morning and the clerk repeated that I had never paid for the item and would not be receiving a refund. i produced my receipt and credit card bill which showed the purchase. She then called someone and told them about the issue. They directed her to look in the computer for the sale. She looked and then said that the store already issued me a refund on my credit card in June 22. She told me to call my credit card company. I was able to verify that the credit had recently been issued and had not yet shown up on my credit card bill. I told the clerk that the credit card company had confirmed the refund. She then told me that I had taken various items from the store and returned them and had not purchased anything from them. I told her that I had never taken anything from the store and had never received any items during the visits to that store in March 2022. I told her I was extremely unhappy with my dealings with their store and would never purchase anything from their establishment and would refrain from making any recommendations to friends or acquaintances to visit or purchase anything from the store. I have since read several negative reviews about the store and other people's dealings with the store. I understand that it appears there were issues with venders, however, I resent having been accused of theft and not having paid for a purchase. The clerk clearly needs education in how to deal with customers effectively or needs to be fired and replaced with someone who has good customer service skills. If I could have given a zero rating for this experience I would have given that rating. read more

Eh. First time coming in to the store, we live an hour away. Didn't know you had to have an appointment just to try on a wig. Also thousands of dollars for a wig that you can find online somewhere.That wasn't a big issue except they weren't welcoming whatsoever. Their attitude was off putting. Bought makeup, my mom sampled the tester, but the lady rudely chimed in and tells us that it shouldn't be used for so and so. She probably thought we weren't going to buy it, so she made that rude remark. We shouldn't even have bought the item but we did anyway. Will never return read more

Had to rate one star just to write this review. Having been a long standing customer if this store, I suggest STAY AWAY. The new management clearly does not understand the client needs and how to maintain relationships with them. When this store had Christine, Lisa, Michelle, Marilyn and others you were always greeted with a smile and genuine concern over what you may need. I have purchased 8/10 wigs from this store, which is clearly a loyal customer. I also get them to wash and maintain the wigs, which is done on a constant basis. With the new management, there have been many turnovers with employees which speaks for itself. Obviously, the new manager/director seems very insecure. with her position. I do see a difference. One tip for you ladies and gentlemen, look on line prior to buying from them. You will find it for half the cost or less. It will arrive perfectly packaged and excellent quality, due to the fact that it has not been sitting under lights for months like the ones in the store. The lights destroy synthetic wigs. After reopening I went there for service. Everything looked fresh and clean all employees had face mask and gloves and they were using sanitizer at the shop, or I like to call it "hair boutique" . Made an appointment in advance, and when I walked in I was immediately given to a new receptionist, obviously not an experienced 'caring wig consultant/stylist' who proceeded to dig through drawers of way over priced hair toppers, and although she tried to be somewhat helpful, I could have gone through drawers of hair myself, all the while hearing the cackling sounds of 'experienced, caring consulting stylists' in the back room, swinging around their long fake overpriced hair!! read more

Was in the store over the weekend just window shopping and was very impressed with the staff attentiveness despite them being very busy and that they had other scheduled appointments. The store was very organized, clean and had attractive displays with a variety of prices. The staff is very informative and compassionate. It is a place to feel comfortable. I didn't buy anything this time, but can say this was a great place to shop and would highly recommend! Also, I don't know why Yelp has this store at an ultra expensive store, because I found many items very reasonably priced for the quality. You CAN spend a lot on a super high quality human hair wig, but no one was pressuring me to look at anything I wasn't comfortable in the pricing. I just called Bravadas to see if they are open today. Jillian, the woman who answered the phone, told me, in a low voice, speaking with considerable authority, that I would have to have an appointment to buy a wig and that no appointments are available today. She was rude in her tone, sounded very irritated, and was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Do I want to go there? No I'll find another establishment with friendly, helpful staff. Three years ago I purchased a wig at Bravadas due to chemo loss of hair. The woman there at that time was so very nice and helpful. I see that the store has been sold, changed ownership, with a write-up that says the new owner started Bravadas. I'm not sure how the new owner started the business in 2015 when I purchased a wig there in 2014. Perhaps I misread the new owner's write-up. I'm sorry Bravadas has adopted such an unfriendly, unwelcoming attitude and atmosphere. I'm looking for different place to purchase a new wig. read more

I went to bravadas because i had a sudden and acute onset of alopecia areata which over the period of 3 months, I went from a full head of hair to almost no hair on my head and now i'm totally without hair. WHen i first was pulling handfuls of hair out, I went to the only wig store I could find in my immediate state of panic and it was Bravada's. I didn't know anything about wigs or what to buy and told them that and they seemed understanding. They sold me a revlon human hair wig for over $1100 - which i was happy to pay at the time due to the state I was in. I didn't know how to wear it or anything else and I was sent home. I wore it at work the next week and it was so painful that I thought if this was the case NO ONE could wear a wig. I called them to ask if they could help me figure out what was wrong and they were horrible. THey told me that it was nothing they had done and that if I wanted help, I could make an appointment and pay another $35 to have the wig fitted. I have never been in such a vulnerable state or at a loss for what to do. She was the meanest woman I have ever had to interact with and SHAME on them for taking advantage of people in their time of need and distress. It only gets better. I then finally washed my $1100 wig and the color washed out. I took it Joi's Wig Salon and Suki, the owner, was amazing. She said she has Bravada customers come to her all the time. When she looked at my wig, she basically showed me how low quality a wig I had. IT was a machine wefted human hair wig that wasn't all human hair. It was lower-grade human hair because i noticed when I tried to curl it, some pieces actually stuck to the curling iron and it was really coarse and stiff. The wig I paid $1100 is really roughly a $500 wig. Suki at Joi's WIgs was so nice and understanding. There are times in life where you're really going through something life altering and alopecia areata or cancer treatments are one of them. I would never recommend anyone go to Bravada's Wigs and go to JOi's Wig Salon. I have since become an expert in wig selection and I get even more angry about the way I was taken advantage of. This has all happened since Feb 2012 and I am just now stabilized enough emotionally to get this review up. For anyone needing wigs due to cancer treatments or alopecia - do not go to Bravada's wigs. You want someone caring and understanding who will educate you on products and not have the objective of getting your money. A good wig salon is almost a place of therapy, where people are free to be open and to cry if they need to. No one one wants to be in a wig salon - if you're in there, you have a reason for it and it's probably not a happy reason. Go somewhere that you're going to feel confident that you will be respected and taken care of. read more

the selection is impressive and offers great variety from synthetic to human hair pieces. the salesperson also spent a generous amount of time as i sought to select a human hair wig for purchase. that is where the benefits of this establishment ends. despite making an appointment, and arriving 15 minutes early to an empty establishment, i was made to wait with no explanation while the two salespeople looked for something. as indicated in other reviews, the salesperson seems very interested in making the sale -- very expensive ones at that -- but that's about it. after spending over $3000 on a wig, i was told in order to learn how to wash it, i had to come back. when i indicated that would not be convenient given work and travel schedules, she rudely repeated that is why she teaches the class. she made it clear she was not interested in answering my questions, despite my expressing some anxiety that this was the first wig i would own and need to take care of, and it was quite an investment. after several weeks of wear, the $3000 wig tangles every day. and when i seek to gently comb out the tangles, it sheds. thats after several weeks. i was told the investment in such a high quality wig would ensure it lasts me several years. at this rate, i'll be lucky if it lasts half a year. the salesperson also installed clips at the temples to help secure it. well, the clips have caused welts, soreness, bruising, and bleeding on my scalp -- things that *never* occurred before. i can barely wear the wig without pain. perhaps it would have been helpful if she had warned me that the wig is too heavy to wear, or that the clips would put too much tension on the very few hairs i have at my temples. but then she wouldnt have gotten $3000 out of me. this establishment is not interested in providing the professional service to women in the sensitive and delicate situation of addressing their hair loss (usually a pretty traumatic medical and emotional situation). they are just interested in your money. comparing the same wigs online, they are overpriced as well. recommend going elsewhere for your wig purchase. read more

I essentially fried off all my hair from one too many bleachings, and extensions were damaging my hair, and also quite uncomfortable and just high-maintenance altogether. I see YouTuber's that wear wigs and you'd never know! I was skeptical going to the shop thinking they would look "wiggy'... Surprise! I was astonished by not only the quality but how they didn't look "wiggy" at all! I bought two and they gave me a discount for buying both together. Everyone there was very helpful, super friendly and informative! The shop itself is beautiful, well maintained and all their wigs are the finest quality. Alongside that, I walked in without a consultation and they made time for me despite me scheduling a consultation ahead of time. I now wear my wig every day and everyone LOVES my new hair! After searching high and low I was very happy to discover Bravadas! Mainly because they have private rooms where you can try on wigs. Being new to alopecia I was not yet (and still am not) comfortable being hairless in public. I made three visits before deciding on a cute synthetic bob. The quality is great and I've had no problems with it. It always feels soft and I get a lot of compliments on it. Michelle was the salesperson who helped me. She was so pleasant, easy to work with and encouraged me to take my time finding the right look. I'll definitely recommend Bravadas and return in the future. read more

Four years ago I bought a wig here. I opted for a human hair wig and payed over $2000 for it. At that time I was satisfied with the staff, service and the product. After returning a few weeks ago to have the wig washed and styled I had anything but a pleasant experience. I spent $55 to have the wig washed and styled and had discussed how I wanted the wig parted. When I picked it up, there was no part and the wig looked nothing like what we had discussed. This however is not my main complaint. When I was about to leave I asked the heavy set woman with long hair if she had any suggestions for maintaining it. She curtly said, "I give a course in that." I replied I didn't really want a detailed lesson but a few tips on how to style it on my own. She repeated again, "I give a 90 minute course on that." She was rude and anything but customer friendly. I will go out of my way to make people aware of this. My suggestion to the owner is to get rid of her if you want to stay in business. I found a wonderful place in Wheaton called Amy's of Denmark. Decided to purchase a wig while I let the gray grow out. Ordered and paid 2 weeks in advance. Their distributor didn't have the color recommended to me by the sales lady, so it had to be ordered. 2 weeks later, wig returned but shop didn't have time to color it. When I tried it on, it looked like a wig and not at all like the product (that I could have purchased) that I tried on in the shop. I felt rushed to purchase and even more rushed to leave with my wig. Their inattention to detail cost me almost $100 extra and I'm left with a wig that I now have to go out and get products for so it can look like the one I tried on in the shop. I am so disappointed that I won't be wearing the expensive wig and I certainly won't be shopping there again. I'm writing this review for those who are thinking that you will get the service advertised to you online -- you won't, and you can probably by the wig directly, and less expensive. read more

While visiting friends in the DC area, it was recommended that I stop in to Bravadas, since I am always searching for hair alternatives. My family has a multi-generational issue with female pattern baldness. It usually begins in our 50's and progressively the hair thins on the temples and top of our heads. I think many of you ladies know what I'm talking about. They say it might be due to hormones, but genetics is also a big factor. A friend of mine bought a "topper" and it looked fabulous and I wanted to check them out. I went to this shop and was greeted warmly by the store director, Chris, who I found out later was wearing one of the products. I couldn't tell! The shop is very clean, the prices will appeal to a variety of pocketbooks, and the products are beautiful! The staff is sensitive and caring. Women will appreciate the trust that evolves when going through such a positive experience here. There was no rush, and no push to sell. For me, the topper was the way to go, although I might see a wig or two in my future. Before I sign off I would like to address the negative reviews from 2015 and earlier... apparently the previous director and staff are long gone, as they should be judging from the reviews. Since Chris and her entire staff are new this year, it makes all those previous reviews irrelevant. This has happened with other businesses I've encountered.
