Sheldeez is a great salon and I guarantee there is a stylist in there for whatever you need to look amazing. I've been a few time and will go back. Sharone is amazing and always gets my hair to perfection. She also gives good hair care tips, which I need because I always have a question about keeping my hair super healthy. They honor their appointments and I've never been in a situation where I'm there all day. It still has the feel of salons that I grew up on instead of the new culture I've been seeing. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO (things I learned from my first visit): 1. BE PREPARED TO PAY MORE depending on the style you desire. I suggest asking Stylist to confirm price before you get started. 2. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT DONE. Sheldeez allows the client to decide what and how they desire their hair to look. I suggest doing your research and making decisions ahead of time. 3. SUGGESTION: DO NOT PUT ANY OIL IN HUMAN HAIR. It can weigh it down and make hair greasy. 4. FINAL THOUGHTS: My stylist was fast, kind and quiet; and her booth was very clean and uncluttered. The receptionist was professional and polite. I was unsatisfied with the final result of my hair based on what I paid and the manager called me personally to offer solutions. I loved the style and the stylist, but I feel like the charges were snuck in. I was told they HAD to shampoo my hair beforehand, this was new but ok no problem. They also conditioned my hair and blow dried it, as well. The problem was I wound up paying $100 for everything, last time it was around $85. And when I got the receipt, it didn't appear to give an itemized breakdown of what I was charged. I don't go in there often, and I genuinely like the stylists, they are always quick, professional and friendly, but this new pricing is for the birds. I don't think I will go back, due to the "surprise pricing" and the hair wash policy (sign) that says due to state regulation they are required to wash your hair prior to service, which ok, but then maybe change your pricing to reflect that, and stop letting people think that they have a choice to wash it and blow dry it themselves at home. And maybe reference which part of the state code says this. PS I would like to amend my previous review. Peace from Sheldeez reached out and we spoke about how I was charged, after clarification on both sides Sheldeez kindly refunded the $10 charge, the very next day (9/3/25). Sheldeez Salon is the worst. My appointment was at 2 pm. They announced that there was no hot water at 2:25 p.m., saying it would be 15 minutes. At 2: 40, they said another 10min. They took me to the shampoo bowl at 2:54pm That's why I do not come to this salon, every time that I've been here, It's always an issue. The Beginning: I called last minute asking if the salon had any appointments available for a lace front install that day. I decided to treat myself to for my upcoming birthday And my trip to New York to support victims families of police brutality alongside my organization. The gentleman that took my call was nice and extra helpful. I explained i came across the ad for the Salon on YouTube and I was impressed!!!!! Driving over an hour to get to the salon (DMV traffic) I daydreamed of my instant Instagram no filter video I would've posted as soon as I got my new. Suffering thru depression, body Dismorphia, and the "I don't wanna be a mommy anymore blues" made the traffic worth it!!!! The Arrival: We walked into the salon and I was immediately disappointed with the decor and the front desk receptionist. The receptionist was NOT mean or rude. She was more preoccupied with gossiping with other stylist. I expected a warm welcome and a walk thru of what my service would look like. Instead it was like a high school lunchroom where all the popular girls sat at one table and looked down on us. The front desk and waiting area is in desperate need of a make over. The room is painted an off yelllowish hue yet It's cold and uninviting. No refreshments, bottled water, or any type of ambiance was offered let alone thought of. The Appointments: After waiting about 30 mins or so, I was finally taken to the back for my appointment. My boyfriend was still out front. He eventually was taken back about maybe 20 mins later. My stylist Jello was a doll!! So friendly and extremely well versed in political convo!!! We had a great chat while I was there!!! I don't doubt that if given the time and space coupled along with just ONE client to focus on at a time, that Jello would have slayed my $365.00 Lace front that I was railroaded into purchasing after I arrived. Y'all they only had two options for lace fronts!!! ONLY 2!!!! At first I said I didn't want the fuller hair that was $365.00. The receptionist and her stylist clique loudly said oh she doesn't wantttt the $365.00 LaceFront. Maybe I'm being emo but I felt attacked as if they were saying I could not afford. The 2nd lace front, which was impatiently shoved too close to my face for comfort, looked entirely too thin. It was a silky type hair and I believe it was $270. Miss Jello was literally running the show!!!! She was working on a press n curl client, two guys with locs, one young lady under the dryer and me She was really trying to hold everything down and make sure everyone was happy. And she kept a pleasant demeanor. The Results: The foundation Jello used on my LaceFront looked really good In the dim lights and weird wall yellow background. The fullness and volume of my natural coils was life!!! And in the salon it looked as if the hair was growing out of my scalp. I was so into my new look I declined Miss Jello's offer to flat iron and tame my new mane of glory. My stylist Jello came out front and I heard someone at the pretty girl table question my stylist handiwork. "Why she gonna wear it like that, she wanted it like that??? " At this point I was a weird mix of happy for my hair and heavy due to the non existent client assistance. As I was leaving, the leader of the front desk gang made sure to question if I was gonna pay for "whomever he is," I didn't feed into her gaslighting. I had his cash in my wallet. I paid the woman her $100 while she behaved as if my significant other was gonna walk out and steal a hairstyle My front facing the camera revealed what I really looked like. My scalp was Orange and my baby-hairs/edges had already started crusting over. I wanted to fix it. I wanted to go back and ask Jello to redo my $500 install like the Instagram models. Instead I found the leopard print scarf I had on earlier and tied it around the forehead flakes and clay mud scalp. By boyfriend came out about 30 mins later. We both liked the style Jello created but again he was Mr. Frosted Flakes too!!! He said we should've brought our own gel. This place wasn't anything like I expected. Another stylist called me back after my appointment and her salon had a choice of 13 human hair LaceFronts for half the price of what I paid and the installation was only $100. Sorry for my long rant. I was on yelp searching for a salon to do my reinstall and this salon popped up, triggering me. My boyfriend took his hair down after 3 days and we washed it. My hair is still in but again I'm hoping to get my wig redone before my bday weekend is up. PS. Use my lesson as a blessing!!! He was very nice, professional, and able to understand my frustrations. It's not always about the problem but the solution is where we learn the most. *****BLACK SALON OWNER CALLS COPS ON BLACK CLIENT FOR REQUESTING REFUND ON POOR SERVICE******** One of the worst experiences I have EVER had at a BLACK OWNED BUSINESS much less a place that allegedly calls itself a Salon and I'm a woman of a particular Age. I came in for a Wash and Retwist (I have Loc Extensions). I was NOT satisfied with the results the next morning. ALL of my "retwist" had magically come out and my roots were clear as day. $70 down the drain and not happy to say the least. Yes before you ask I wrapped my hair in a long bonnet and secured it. I went into the salon later on that day after a day at work only to be told by the receptionist that it was NOT the policy of the store to give a refund. I asked to speak with the owner. The owner ART got on the phone and proceeded to tell me that he does not issue refunds and that I could only allow the stylist to redo my hair. I explained to ART that is not acceptable as I have ZERO Faith that your stylist can deliver what I need. He then ask that I let another stylist do it. I asked the receptionist how long would that take she proceeded to speak to Art again on the phone. **Sidebar*** Meanwhile at the same time a client was at the front desk paying for her service and expressed her displeasure and dissatisfaction with being charged $30 more for the same style she routinely gets. She asked for Art name and contact info (popular guy) and she stated she would never return if this is the way Sheldeez conducts business. I stood nearby just smirking and shaking my head at the foolishness. I then get told it will take 2hrs for someone to see me. I told receptionist that is unacceptable, I'm a working professional woman and will not wait for 2hrs to correct a salon mistake, I would like my refund. Mind you I was just asking for a refund for the retwist NOT the wash. Receptionist calls Art and has her tell me to call him during the week. I said absolutely NOT I request a refund of poor service as you can clearly see in the picture my hair is a mess!!! Receptionist then tells me the cops have been called. LET US STOP RIGHT HERE FOR A SECOND. So a Black Salon Owner tells his receptionist to tell me the cops have been called because I questioned having to wait to possibly get my refund. *sighs* This pains me to write because this salon is black owned (I believe) AND one of the only salons that caters to African American/ Black hair in Fairfax county. It's basically a monopoly since there really is no competition. I really wish I could give a higher rating but I cannot. Due to the above, I think EVERY stylist should know how to handle natural hair. As I understand it, this is not the case and some are just braiders. But even as a braider, people with natural hair get braids all the time....it's the most popular choice in protective styles. I went in to have simple cornrows to put in my hair so I could style it myself or wear under my wigs. I washed it at home, used butter and twisted it up. It was ready. The stylist proceeded to use a tiny rat tail comb to comb my hair dry.....DRY....she made various comments about it being long & nice but tangled. She even asked how I get it grow, I told her I [don't] dry comb it and I do protein and moisture treatments. She said "that's nice"....but all I could think was it was long before I came here. I saw my hair yanked out in clumps. I asked if she could use the leave in spray conditioner that was next to her and she replied "that's not mine".....wait wait wait so you have no other products?? You can't borrow someone's leave in?? You can't make up a quick concoction of conditioner & water to ease the pain on your client?? I'm just deeply disappointed. I should have left but I didn't start having pain until after like two cornrows, so of course I wanted to finish. To make matters worse, she combed my hair from the root first...omg....everyone knows you start at the ends and work your way up. I was praying for it to be over. I asked her again about a detangler or something and she said, "huh you want it wet?" I said no just no pain. She was a nice person but my experience was not good. Her and that comb took out enough of my hair to make a faux bun for someone. I am giving 3 stars because the place was clean, staff wore masks, prices were reasonable, and they saw me the same day I called. I was very excited to try out Sheldeez. It was easy making an appointment. Trying to get the hair in a color I wanted from them was a bit difficult but I understand. Supply is hard to come by. I wanted box braids in 4b/30. It's a pretty typical color. They did have 4/27. It's a little bright but I'm teleworking so no problem! The salon was easy to find with ample parking. They offered to wash my hair but hadn't mentioned it when I called to book the appointment so I had already washed my hair prior to my appointment. After a temp check and hand washing my braider brought me back. My braider started on time and was extremely pleasant. The salon was very clean and comfortable. She quoted me $180 after assessing my hair. She did not hurt me while braiding my hair at all. The box braids took 6 hours. Upon checking out, a different receptionist asked if I had my hair washed. No. So, it seems that may have been an add on. She then quoted me $200. I said the braider said $180. The receptionist said it STARTS at $180. I said the braider quoted me $180 at the start of my appointment. That's what I'm playing. She clicked her tongue and begrudgingly took my payment. I'm a contracts lawyer for my daily bread, let's not play the offer and acceptance game! Unfortunately, my box braids started slipping out within the first week. It hasn't even been 3 weeks and at least 20 braids have come out. I've never had that happen before. I have thick natural 4b hair. I do not have any chemicals in my hair. This wasn't my first time getting braids and usually keep them in for 8 weeks no slippage! I mean what the!?! I didn't bother calling because you and I both know they'll say it was something I did. I should reach out though and see if they will make this right. Otherwise, I unfortunately am out $180 plus the cost of hair and most importantly- my time. Update: When I contacted the hair salon they asked did I want to come in and made an apt. It had been less than three weeks since my apt. On the day of the apt I'm my parents suggested I double check they try to charge me. Sure enough, they told me it starts at $80 to put braids back in after 7 days. I asked them, so you only stand by your work for one week?!? They asked to see a picture. Of course, they said they don't know if I got my hair wet (I didn't) and they said my hair looks short. They didn't say my hair looks short when I sat up in that chair and they took my $220 and braided my whole head. Spoiler alert- my hair is not that short. I previously had braids that didn't do this. They said well we'll start at $50 for your apt to put them back in. After I've already paid $220. Do I look like boo boo the fool? I'm going to pay you for more shoddy work? However, sometimes all the care can be really time consuming. - Due to horrible past experiences in other salons I am ALWAYS hesitant to try a new one, much less trust anyone with my hair. Sheldeez is the exception! I had an amazing experience here and would recommend this salons to other natural ladies because they are gentle with the hair and flexible to using your preferred hair utensils (yes, I brought my own!). I highly recommend Margaret (stylist) and Diamond (wash) for their tender handling and care with my hair! (Margaret is hilarious and Diamond is so pleasant.) - Scheduling: I scheduled through Yelp. It was a breeze and I got a fast response from the owner. Cost: The pricing for my wash, conditioner, blow dry and flat iron was as Art quoted -- BIG POINTS for no surprise "thick/long hair" fees. I was very pleased with this. Plus, I received a 15% 1st time customer discount. Wait: They are efficient! I waited less than 5 min before my hair was being washed. As a whole, my whole process was about 2.5hrs. Atmosphere: Clean, nice and friendly shop and ladies. No foul language or explicit/dirty talk. Tasteful music and entertainment on the TVs. I went to Sheldeez last year a few months after I cut my hair off. My hair had finally grew to pixie cut length and I wanted to even it up because I (an unlicensed non- beautician) cut it in my own bathroom. As I got it done I could tell I wasn't going to like it and asked to not curl or feather my hair. She stated she would just "bump" the end and I ended up with feathered hair anyway it aged me I was 24 and I looked 44 because of the ugly granny style that looked nothing like a pixie cut. I absolutely hated it and instantly put a hat on while checking out. I decided a year later to try them out as I wanted 2 feedin braids (pictured) and a cute style for my 4 year old niece (also pictured). I was told $55 for my hair and about $65 for my 4 year old niece by Art here on Yelp. When I got to the hair salon a short dark skinned woman (who did not introduce herself) approached me and told me it would be $90 for my niece and $75 for me. I was told we had to pay $6 for hair, $5 for a design, and $5 for beads. $90 for a 4 year olds braided hairstyle?!?!?!! It was not worth it so I declined after asking why and got my niece and left. I did not appreciate the sudden change in prices once I arrived. I will NEVER come back to Sheldeez. I don't understand why that would not be communicated customers. I have plenty of braid hair at home but wasn't aware I had to come with my own hair after asking Art several questions in regards to my appointment. I was matched up with Priscilla for my full sew-in weave. She was an absolute blast. We just clicked. It was like she had been doing my hair for years! Pricilla gave me such an invigorating shampoo. She was quick with her braiding and placed wefts perfectly so I could have minimal leave-out. I just let her style how she thought would work. She ended up making look like I do on my best hair days. It's was great. She had only seen the mop I walked in with. I felt so special that she really put "my style" on me. I even had her using my washed & dyed weft I just took out. After being disappointed by several local braiders and salons I tried this place and was very happy with my style. I only gave three stars because the first stylist was 30 minutes late and both times I paid about $50 more than originally expected. But both times they came thru and accommodated my schedule. And Josephine came in on the 4th of July after another stylist at another salon didn't show up for my appointment. She was great. The reason for the three star vs. five. There must have been a brake down in communication. I got Senegalese twist to go on vacation. I explained this to the stylist and told her that I like to swim. What can I say? I am THOROUGHLY pleased with the service I received and the stylist. This was my first time visiting Sheldeez and I must say it is extremely tough finding a good hair salon in Northern VA. I am tired of going to Maryland or DC! This place is GREAT and AMAZING! (Yes I am yelling this as I mean it). I am the toughest critic when it comes to salons as some make you wait forever, and then the atmosphere is just not kind. Sheldeez totally awed me. From the moment I walked in the door the receptionist greeted me and asked my name to confirm my appointment. I literally sat down for 3 minutes (yes 3) and the girl called me back to wash my hair. She was on point with the wash. My hair was squeaky clean. My stylist had another client as well as myself however she finished my full sew in extremely fast considering she had another client as well. She was super easy to talk to and very outgoing. Dominique is awesome and if you are like me and tired of having to settle for pitiful service then definitely come to this shop so that you can appreciate beauty salons once again and enjoy getting your hair done. I had a first time appointment scheduled and as I am 5 min away from the location I call to let them know. I am told by the receptionist that the stylist I was booked with is overbooked and can't take me. The receptionist explained that when she scheduled me, the system was down. That is understandable -technology issues happen, but how did you not call me when the system returned back on, to see about rescheduling- instead of me driving 35 minutes to an appointment that isn't happening, minutes before it's scheduled? I had to call the salon and had I not would I have been turned away for a scheduled appointment. Businesses are busy, but good communication always keeps people returning. read more

My 12 year old has very thick, curly and often matted hair. Promise was so amazing and gentle with her. She was able to take breaks, Promise walked her through some steps to help her take control of her own hair. I can't recommend Promise enough - she is just amazing. read more

I have one word to say about this place well to say. Unprofessional. I came in and a stylist was coloring the receptionist hair. When I got my hair done I had to wait for 30 minutes for my stylist to get there but she booked my appointment on time and I showed up on. Then when I got there she probably did not know how to do my hair because she sent me under dry after I just got twist and not dreadlocks. I will never go to this place ever again. read more

I spoke to a receptionist before making my appointment if I could do deep treatment and roller set. I was told yes, no problem. I go to my appt the next day and while getting washed, three people came to examine my natural hair. Oh, wow this is impossible to roller set and it's better if you blow dry and flat iron. The whole reason I made the appt is I hate heat and wanted deep treatment. I agreed to just blow dry my hair and was told she wouldn't use too much heat. They switched the person that was washing my hair and after one shampoo and conditioner, took me out and started flowing drying my hair. It wasn't completely dry before she used the flat iron. I came out with my hair completely fried and I didn't get the deep treatment. I paid $75 and I asked why, the receptionist said that's the price. I wouldn't step foot in that salon again!!! read more

Made an appointment to get my hair done 2 weeks ago, my daughter is getting married Thursday. When I called to confirm my appointment there was a mixup and I wasn't scheduled. The team worked together and was able to fit me in, getting everything I needed for this special occasion. This salon is pretty awful. The only positive thing about it is that it is open 7 days a week. While the salon advertises that it does natural hair styles like wash n go's and twist outs, the stylists do not know how to deal with natural hair. One stylists tried to comb my natural hair in its dry state (any natural hair girl knows that this is a big "no-no!"). Also, Sheldeez is one of the only black salons in the Fairfax/Loudoun County area. For this reason, the prices are insanely high. I paid nearly $200 for crochet braids. I have only had one experience with this salon and it was wonderful from start to finish. It was easy to make an appointment. My appointment started on time and my stylist was friendly and professional. I also loved my hair. I have 3C/4A that I wear naturally for the most part. I straighten it about once a year for a length check or a trim. I came to this salon in October 2018 and at that point I had not put any heat on my hair since August 2017. I loved my hair when I left it looked healthy and was very straight. However, when it was time to wash my hair and I wanted to wear it in a natural state again my curls were nonexistent. They were nowhere to be found. I thought okay they'll return I'll wait a few more weeks, wash my hair a few more times and my curl pattern will return right? It must. By December 2018, my curls were still not back. When I washed my hair it looked like someone who had either heat damage or used a relaxer. Again as stated above I had only used heat once since August 2017. I also did not touch up my hair at all after getting it straightened as I don't own a flat iron or curl wand. I honestly wasn't even going to write this review but I became so frustrated with my hair that I decided to chop it all off and start my curls fresh. I'm not posting this to accuse the salon of adding anything into my hair without my consent. However, what I know to be true is that my curl pattern was destroyed from my one visit to this salon.
