The place is sanitized between each customer appointment, has an air purifier in the studio, and precautions are taken in place for covid. You have to ring the phone buzzer so that a limited amount of people can enter the building. Make sure to book an appointment since Choi fills up quickly! I'm usually pretty picky with how my hair is cut, especially since Asian hair can be tricky to cut but Choi has always been able to cut my hair based on my facial shape and give me pointers on how to style my hair that is personalized to me. I was in dire need of a haircut and my previous hairdresser recently moved, so I booked an appointment with one of the more senior stylists online. My hair is pretty easy to cut... It's long, relatively straight, and fairly thin. No texture, not super thick - pretty easy. I just wanted a very light trim on my ends and a little shaping to my existing layers. What I walked out with was about 3 inches off my hair, and thick, chunky layers that almost give the illusion of a mullet. It's so, so bad. Aside from that, my experience with the stylist was just... uncomfortably weird. Without getting in to too many details, I found the conversation to be extremely awkward. Upon arriving at the salon, I was greeted by the sweet receptionist who offered me some tea. As soon as my tea came out, the stylist came and got me from the waiting area - didn't introduce himself - and sat me down in his chair. I took the opportunity to tell him what I wanted (he didn't ask), but could tell he wasn't really focused on what I was saying. Instead, as soon as I was done talking, I was peppered with questions about who colored my hair (stylist from back home that I've been seeing for years). He wanted to know her name, her age, how much she charged, if she was on her own or in a salon, everything...it was very strange. Even down to asking me if she was "a bitch." He then decided - totally unprompted - to share his political views with me, which are completely different from mine. I shut down completely. The whole interaction was so uncomfortable, and I could not wait to get out of the chair. All the while, I'm watching him cut my hair, knowing that the results were not going to be what I asked for. At one point in time, I genuinely wondered if I was on a hidden camera show. The whole experience was so strange. Needless to say, I will not be going back.

She really worked magic with my unruly and curly hair and taught me how to style it myself. The best part about my haircut is that I can recreate the style at home! I opted for the "Deva Treatment" for curly hair that included a dry cut, wash and deep conditioning, then styling. The care that went into the cut and showing me how to style it moving forward was very much appreciated. I recommend the treatment as a first visit but future visits can only be the dry cut (making it only just more than double what I would normally pay ‍). Also, it took about 3 hours for the cut, wash, deep conditioning, & styling...another reason to only do the dry cut in the future. I'm not really sure I can justify the cost too much to return but I'm also not sure I can say that I've ever loved a haircut like I do this one. Four stars is mainly for price.
