You cant find a better place in any case near by, an artist who cares , listens and understands and also does the job super professionally, I will never let any body else touch my hair. The story started when I decided to dramatically change my hair color from bold true red to a soft cool blond ( considering that my natural hair is very dark brown ) I started with a home bleach kit and ruined the whole look , yes undesirable messy orange, the one that no salon and in town didnt have time or didnt want to put effort to fix it, so disparately I checked yelp and saw Faina with nice reviews and set out to try, Fatima accepted me very pleasingly and very kindly despite she gad other clients even a doctors appointment and said she was excited to fix it , I realized she loves what she does and this is a soul of a real artist and any stylist. She started the process at 4 pm and it was beyond 10 pm when we finished and the result was super super unbelievably amazing, and I was happy and thankful even she charged me very reasonably even using expensive treatments. Personally she is kind , fun to have conversation , never let you get bored. I have been getting my hair cut with Fatima for easily 20 yrs. I had lived in Northern VA for many years but now have lived in Rockville/Gaithersburg area. I still go to her shop to get my hair cut and styled. She does a great job, is highly skilled and always consistent in her work. She manages her own appointments. I found Fatima on Yelp and decided to try her since she has some five star reviews. She was initially very friendly when I called her to make my appointment. Last year, I had my hair cut in a short, professional pixie cut, since I'm a mother of two little girls and don't have time to do a whole lot of styling in the mornings. I regularly receive color treatments to cover my grays, and I highlight my hair to add dimension. The last time I had my hair highlighted was three months before my appointment with Fatima. When I went in for my appointment, Fatima said that my highlights didn't need any touching up and that my previous highlights were sufficient. She did a root touch up to cover the grays and then cut my hair. While she did a good job covering my grays, I was not very impressed with the cut. She saw my hesitant face and told me that I just need to use lots of styling paste to style it right in the mornings. I told her that I have some styling paste at home and that I'd give it a try (despite my previously mentioned time constraints in the morning!). My hair looked decent after she styled it, but I was still concerned about the cut since it seemed rather long in the back. A friend of mine at work mentioned the length in the back as well before I said anything, so I knew it wasn't just in my head. The next morning, I washed and dried my hair and attempted to style it with styling paste, but it looked AWFUL. The length in the back was terrible, and it looked like I was about a month overdue for a haircut! The more I looked in the mirror, the more convinced I was that the back needed to be trimmed and shaped up more and the sides needed to be shaped. I figured that since I was a new client and this was Fatima's first time cutting my hair and she seemed very nice, I should give her another chance. So, I called her and explained my concerns and asked very politely if I could come by whenever she had some free time that day for a follow-up appointment to fix the cut. She was again very nice on the phone and told me to come by at 3:45pm. I was so happy that she had agreed to see me on that day, since I didn't really feel comfortable leaving the house with my hair looking the way it did... Around 3:30p, I realized I was running a little bit late, so I texted Fatima to give her a heads up that I was, like, two minutes behind schedule. I wanted to be extra considerate, since she'd agreed to see me for a follow-up appointment at the last minute. Traffic ended up not being as bad as I expected, though, so I ended up arriving at the salon on time. Since Fatima was with another client, I took a seat in the waiting area at the front of the salon. Fatima hadn't seen me walk into the shop since she was with her client. It was at this point that I overheard her talking to her client, saying that she didn't care if I was going to show up late or not at all. She was clearly upset, saying that that some people "do not have a brain," implying that I'm an idiot because I don't like the haircut she gave me! I felt awful and immediately got up to leave. She saw me as I walked out of the salon to go set on a bench outside to collect my thoughts. I was so confused and upset about what she just said, in the middle of the salon, in front of everyone. I have never experienced something SO unprofessional--I honestly wasn't sure what to do! Fatima followed me out of the shop and found me sitting on the bench a minute later. When I asked her if she was just talking to her client about me, she started trying to explain that she "did not mean it that way." Then she set in on trying to convince me that the back of my hair looked exactly how the back of a pixie cut should look, and that she couldn't make it shorter or shape it to my head because "this is the way that my hair grows." Literally all I needed was for her to use a lower number clipper on the razor to cut my hair shorter in the back and shape up the back and sides, which has NOTHING to do with how my hair grows! Absolutely ridiculous. I informed her that I had heard everything she said to her client, and I started walking away. She then proceeded to FOLLOW ME ALL THE WAY TO MY CAR, shouting about how she was sorry and that I was "being too sensitive!" SERIOUSLY?! I should mention that Fatima did offer me a refund at this point. However, for me, what she'd said and how she'd acted was far more upsetting and hurtful to me than what she did to my hair. I was so disgusted by her complete and utter lack of professionalism that I didn't even want to be bothered with a refund. I couldn't have looked at her a minute longer. I refused the refund and left. Fatima doesn't deserve even ONE star, but there's no option for zero stars. A bad haircut is one thing, but talking trash about your clients to other clients in the middle of the salon is absolutely unacceptable. I hope this helps her learn to respect her clients in the future, whether they are around to hear it or not. read more

After reading tons of reviews, I decided to try Fatima for hair cut and color. I told her to shorten my hair by 3 inch, no style, just simple hair cut and let her decide on which color suits me. The results is good but not amazing for the price I paid. For a simple hair cut and color that costs $150 plus tips, I can find the same service somewhere cheaper. UPDATE: I came in to look for you last year actually and I've been to several hairdressers around by now. Plus I didn't specify you left my hair wet. Everything was good, just that I felt compelled to write this review because I realized how overpriced you charged for a trim for $75 plus another $75 for a simple color where I don't feel the oomph when I left the salon. I can just buy a few boxes from cvs and tried myself which color suits me better. Of course you're welcome to price your profession and this is an open space for your customer to review your services. read more

Read the reviews and decided to try Fatima. I had a bob cut from a picture I had brought from a hairstyling magazine, front and back pictures. I was not pleased with the cut as I thought it was too long - not as pictured. I asked her to keep cutting but her opinion is the final word. She did not listen to me or try to please me. I have been a client of Fatima's for more years than I can count. She is, by far, the best stylist in this area. She is not one of those stylists who cuts your hair the way THEY think it should be cut. She listens to what you want, but gives feedback on what will work with your face and hair. At the end of the day, every cut I've gotten - whether short or long - has been perfect. She is impeccable in her art form, and is truly gifted. She takes the time to make sure everything is even and precise. She really does pay attention to the details like no other stylist I've ever had. And she really cares about making her clients happy. She also educates me on the hair options out there (coloring, keratin, etc.) but doesn't push any techniques. Recently I decided I wanted to do a keratin treatment on my thick curly locks. But I didn't want to do the formaldehyde formulas. She had a natural product that made my hair so silky, like the hair of my youth. Her salon is also modern and clean. I picked Fatima specifically because I did not know what I wanted, other than a change. She started with a very candid assessment of all that was wrong with my current haircut....she IS very candid! I have to say I trusted her entirely though after her assessment. I told her my new cut had to be professional, not too short, easy to take care of. And that is EXACTLY what I got. I also took my 26 yo daughter with me, who had a standard straight long hair style that Fatima referred to as 'high school', which was true. Again, she's candid. Fatima did a lovely job on my curly hair! She took the time to assess my hair condition, worked out my botched bangs, meticulously made sure everything was even, and styled my hair. The style we worked out together was both beautiful and manageable for straight and curly styling (I do both). I feel like she knew what I wanted better than I did, but she was careful to make sure at every step that my cut was going the way I wanted it to. While she was blowing out my hair, she gave me tips on how to replicate the look at home, and some variations based on the amount of time I had to spend styling it myself. It's so difficult finding that hairdresser who knows what to do with your hair when you've struggled with it your entire life- Fatima was a God-send. I had the keratin (Brazilian blowout) treatment done with her, not only did she take the time to address all the needs of my thin and frazzled hair, but she went above and beyond to make sure it looked the absolute best possible. Fatima is a goddess! Not only is she a wonderful stylist, but a fantastic conversationalist. I appreciated that she took her time with me, and gave me an amazing haircut that I can only describe as glorious, easy to care for, and one that naturally frames my face. We tried to dye my hair, but my hair (dyed black) is stubbornly resistant. Rather than trying to change the color, she advised me to let it gain some health and strength first, which I appreciate.
