Happy. Happy. Happy. The front half of the lights and outlets on all floors went out. And the garage door opener is on the same circuit, and there is no other way into the garage. Resetting the breaker ... buzzed to indicate a short-circuit. What could it be? I had changed nothing. Nothing. The power had not failed to provoke a sympathetic failure. Hmmmm? I did a bit of trouble shooting myself; unplugging everything from the dark outlets to rule out an appliance internally shorting out. No joy. I checked each outlet and switch for signs of spark/arc'ing. Nope. I checked the working circuits to see if neutral had floated (a very dangerous condition that could easily lead to a fire). Nope. Time to call a professional. Karen was confident that they could arrive a bit after lunchtime. Caleb (journeyman) and Alex (apprentice) called to let me know they were enroute. It took a few hours of trouble-shooting to find the short. It was a wire to a stairway light installed by the previous homeowner. Caleb knows his trade well, very well. He was also great teacher, insuring that Alex grasped a proper trouble-shooting methodology. A family owned business since 1956. I will certainly use them again. read more

My generator was installed in June 2024. Weekly test start up wasn't happening. I didn't notice until a few months later. I called and was told that it would be a service fee if I couldn't find the key. Found the key and service techs came. Original installer missed turning on the activation switch or something. Weekly test was working again. Yesterday, at 11p the lights flickered, went off then back on the flicked again. Total power outage. Called left a message and then called after hours emergency number, which is Mike's, the owner, left 2 messages Generator did not come on. After lighting passed over, I used my iPhone light to read manual and at 1:30a I'm outside trying to start my generator with the iPhone light. Got it started and still no power. Got a call the next morning from chick in the office. I call her "chick" because she ultimately told me that the issue with my generator not working due to a brown out was not their problem and to contact Briggs and Stratton! REALLY!!!!! No 24 hr emergency service even though voicemail says if it's after hours and an emergency to call another number, Mike's number. I wasn't contacted until the next/this morning at about 7 o'clock and was told that someone would be out between nine and 10 they showed up at eight thirtyish and explain that the unit that I have is tricky and that when I had a brownout, which I didn't, the system couldn't fully detect that I was out of power so therefore it failed to power up! Mike did not tell me that I would have issues if I had a brownout, which I didn't, my generator would not start up. He suggested that they come out and show me how to reset it. After careful thought about it, I called him back and left him a voicemail that what if I'm handicapped what if I'm can't get outside to reset a generator that they installed. What if I'm not able to do that? I don't know his answer because I left a voicemail. All I know is that the chick in the office told me that it's not their problem and to contact Briggs & Stratton!! So after paying this expensive money for this generator and a yearly maintenance fee this year, there's no emergency service and they want to show me how to reset it. I don't think so. I should've bought a Generac. I'm a caregiver for my 92 year old mother and her air mattress on hospital bed just deflated was nothing I could do about it but wait until they woke up this morning to contact me and send somebody out to fix it! So terrible customer service by the chick the office. What kind of crap is that to tell a customer? I do not recommend Bratcher Electric but surely they don't care because they already have my money!!! read more

Excellent service and upkeep. Checked everything and found battery need replacement. Replaced battery then rechecked everything.

There was a mistake made by one of the gas line installers for our generator. Mike (the owner) took care of it and made it right financially. The generator installation otherwise went smoothly and the electricians were professional and competent. Highly recommend this company for your generator installation! How a company responds to complaints is very important. Nothing goes perfectly all the time, and when it doesn't, you learn what the company owner/manager is made of. read more

The first time I needed something other than normal maintenance it took forever as Mike needed to be involved for some reason. I did not think you much about it at that time. My generator has not cycled in the last year and was told I needed a new part. Been trying to get this service and can get a call back. Told again Mike needs to be involved. Purchased a whole house generator about 2 years ago from this company and as luck would have it, the generator stops working during every power outage. The service is responsive, but they have no clue of how to fix this Briggs and Stratton generator. At least a dozen times service has been called out with different "solutions" each time. My experience with Bratcher is awful. Bratcher installed a 20 kw whole home generator at my house in 2012. The first time we have a power outage the generator didn't work. This company is either not very good at what they do or they have no pride in their work. Their customer service is lacking. To go with the generator I wanted regular service as well. Getting them to come out and provide that service has been a nightmare. At times, with no notice they just stop coming. Lately it can take weeks to get an appointment. On the latest appointment I paid them several hundred dollars to find out why my generator was revving. They came and looked at the generator and told me nothing was wrong. Then, weeks later when the power went out, I found it was revving again. I question whether they did any work or review of the generator. I called them to complain. They are unable to send someone to review what I am told is an EXTREMELY serious problem for weeks. They didn't say, we can't help you. They said they would fit me in when they can. I am on their DO NOT ANSWER list. If I call with my regular phone number my call goes straight to voicemail. If I call from another phone they pick it up right away. That is their customer service. my stand by generator would not stay running..they sent a tech to the house to correct problem. He replaced voltage regulator and declared that the problem was solved..Come next exercise time I had they same problem, would not stay running. They sent the tech back out..this time he decided it could be an internal problem that would require getting inside the generator and it would require someone better able to handle this type of repair.. ok I said, have someone call me with a ball park figure for this work..4 weeks later still have not heard from them. Bottom line, it would appear that a part was changed that was not the problem.. they took my 300 dollars and left me with a non functioning generator. read more

Chris and his partner worked from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, doing the install. They treated our house like it was their own, keeping the mess to a minimum. It was greatly appreciated. My wife got three bids on the job and Mike Bratcher was the most competitive. She was also impressed that Mike came out himself and took the time to go through exactly what needed to be done for the install. I want to share my Bratcher experience with people who are considering hiring an electrical contractor, because mine was, in no way good! I got the indirect recommendation from 'The Inside Outside Guys' (local handyman radio program in Detroit, because everybody in the Detroit area knows about the show and I'm anything but electrically acute!!) website. I met with the owner and went over everything that I was looking for. I received a call from their secretary/office gal named Karen a few days later. She verbally listed out what sounded like the majority of the items that I discussed with the owner and I asked her to email me a copy of the estimate so that I could look it over and discuss it with my wife who was unable to be at the meeting. Karen also told me that the price was Six hundred and some change, so I restated my request for a copy of the estimate. Fast forward a few days, I'm out of town, walking into a closing on a new home and I receive a call from my son, who was watching the house, asking me if we hired electricians, because there were a couple at the door. At that point, I have not received the requested estimate, but I told my son to allow them to go ahead. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Whoever (two guys) they sent was there for around an hour and I still have undone work. When I got back in town, I followed up with Karen and asked about the items that were not completed and inquired as to why she never complied with my request for a detailed copy of the work to be done. She said that she'd have Mike, the owner, call me back to discuss. There's a bill for $647.00 in my mail pile and nothing else by way of communication. I've got an installed, grounded outlet for my stove, a CO2 detector and a portion of a drop ceiling cut out, so that I can have an electrician gain access to the service if it needs to be worked on.
