Had 2 leaking valves replaced. After work was done, one was leaking again. Somebody came out and replaced it. Working OK now. BUT now I have a very noisy pipe there. Never had that before. I called to say I was very unhappy. Spoke with a manager. They said they would send someone out, but I said I really didn't think I wanted them in my house again. Matheson heating does not stand by the work they do. They installed a furnace, but would not service it when the wiring needed repair as "they no longer have electricians". How can they install thermostats, furnaces or air conditioners if they don't have electrical knowledge & expertise? Also, when they installed the new furnace, the tech cut the wires to my generator hook up and I had to hire an electrician to repair the damage the Matheson tech did. Their receptionist or whoever answers their phone & schedules work was rude and insulting and not customer friendly. I now use RobinAire heating who have master electricians & are reliable. Matheson's fees are excessive also & not in line with other heating & cooling companies. read more

I had a leak with my 5 year old water heater and called Matheson to inspect and confirm the pressure release valve was the issue and get estimate of cost. Understanding their site visit charge is $147 and doing internet searches on cost of the pressure release valve is about $40-$50 and the straightforward steps to remove and replace I didn't expect the estimate to be high. Well....when the tech came back from talking with his office....it was over $900 to replace a pressure release valve! Another prompt call to a different plumbing company confirmed my belief it was beyond norm. I won't need their help in the future. read more

We have used Matheson a few times over the years and have always been happy with their services and repairs. We had an emergency and needed help asap as we couldn't find the source of an active significant leak to even stop it. They said someone would be arriving sometime within the next few hours, and Brock arrived not too long after that, and at the very beginning of the time window they stated on the phone. What a relief. He was polite, professional, understanding and humble. He was quickly able to ascertain that this was a much larger repair job than he was able to do and we were referred to another company. I assumed we'd have to wait forever for the new guys to come, but they arrived fast too. They were fantastic and fixed the problem. Ultimately it was a result of a cracked pipe from the septic tank. While there was no work performed by him, he arrived quickly to try to fix it. After he left I mentioned to my husband that he was the type of person you want to have show up when having home repairs done. I saw that written in another review mentioning Brock, after I said it to my husband and wanted to make it clear....Brock represents this company incredibly well. Thanks Brock! read more

Really disappointed in this place. Scheduled to have a new AC installed this morning, (we were the first scheduled stop) so I took the day off from work. Installer kept texting that he was delayed, finally at 1:45, I told him we would need to re schedule as we were leaving and wouldn't be home. This cost me a day of wage and now we're without AC on a long and hot holiday weekend. Never again! read more

Brock and Zach came to fix my toilet handle. They were extremely friendly and compassionate to my needs.

In October I had them come to do a winter tuneup. the cost was supposed to less then 200 .00 dollars. The technician found $1700.00 worth of problems. Ok needed to be done. Fast forward to December the furnace dies. come to find out it needed a new safety switch because a dirty filter stopped the airflow. Now I replace the filter each season but I assumed that replacing the filter would be part of the tuneup. well I assumed wrong because I just paid another $675.00 dollars to fix the problem. This is just ridiculous that a simple filter isn't included in the tuneup. The tech Jeff, that came today, was so nice and kind. I was pretty upset and sadly took it out on him. He was very professional. If you decide to use this company make sure to ask questions. As seniors we were not happy with the additional costs! read more

Will not call them again. While they were prompt in scheduling the appointment, the tech went to the wrong house, then wanted to charge me $2100 to replace a laundry sink pump. I ended up having a licensed, insured master plumber install it for less than half that price. And when I asked for a price breakdown for what they wanted to charge me the tech told me he didn't know how much the pump was and told me that they are a flat rate company. Basically, it cost me $97 to pay someone to enter my home and attempt to overcharge me. And the tech did not send me the receipt or written quote that he said he was sending. (I would have chosen zero stars but that is not an option.) read more

Had them out for a air conditioner problem and it was diagnosed by the technician for a bad capacitor. They only offered me a "band aid fix" which would replace the capacitor for $495.00. This was the lowest option that I could select. I asked the tech to just charge me for the part and labor and the band aid fix was my only option. I declined the band aid fix and just paid the $97 service call. read more

After my basement flooded, the pilot light on my 2 year old water heater wouldn't light. I called Matheson, who installed the water heater, to come take a look. The trip charge was $97, which is a bit higher than others, but what was upsetting was the fact that all that was done was cleaning out the gas chamber, and I was charged $387 (with the trip charge waived) for that. The two guys were very polite, but that cleaning was less than an hour worth of work. This was, in my opinion, a ridiculously high cost for a small, no replacement part repair. read more

I can't say enough good things about Matheson. I had a house that I was selling earlier this year (2013) and the furnace went out during the coldest time in January and the pipes froze. At the time I didn't know that Matheson did plumbing so when I called to have the furnace serviced they got the furnace going and as soon as it warned up a bit the water leaks started showing up. So the tech shut the water off and told me at that time they, Matheson, now does plumbing as well and gave Jared, their plumbing tech, a call. He arrived on the seen and proceeded to spend the next seven (7) hours fixing all of the leaks that happened...there were over (8) bursts of the copper piping and (3) water shut off valves that needed to be replaced or fixed. Then in September of 2013 we had a water leak at my house. We were stood up by another local plumbing outfit so I called Matheson (After 4:30pm) and again Jared came out after the other company said that their man wouldn't be able to make it because it was too late in the day (after 5:00pm). Jared stayed and worked until we finished the job which was after 9:00pm. Talking about customer service! I can't say enough good things about Matheson Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing! I can tell you one more thing that I am going to do...and that is have Matheson come out and give me an estimate on installing central air conditioning in my house! I know that if I ever have any problems with my heating or plumbing or (after its installed) the air conditioning again I willing call only one company, and that company is...Matheson Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing! Serviceman inspected my system because it was having trouble keeping up with the heat. Charged me $450 for a recharge despite the fact that my unit takes the cheapest refrigerant available. Then he tried to charge me $4400 for the "gold package" repair that included replacing over a dozen components that had absolutely no issues whatsoever. The bare minimum he would charge to fix the issue was $2300 to completely replace my evap coil box and they would only guarantee their work for 30 days at this price. I had my cousin who is certified for HVAC in Michigan take a look at the system and he immediately noticed that some insulation in the evap coil box was blocking the coils causing the issue. We tore the insulation out and the issue was resolved for free. Matheson is an absolute scam and tried to charge me $4400 for a repair that should have been nearly free. read more

Matheson came out to the house and provided a temporary fix for under $100 including the $80 service call fee. This was a temporary fix because they wanted $250 to $1000 to replace a $25 valve. I called another company and they replaced the valve for $75. read more

We will not do business with Matheson again. What should have been a simple kitchen disposal hookup turned into a hidden leak that eventually seeped under our freshly redone hardwood kitchen floor, causing several boards to lift and warp. We received a call from their insurance company to file a claim, and the estimates we got were reasonable, but as it turned out, the boards had settled somewhat after drying out. The floor contractor told us that it would not be worth the time, effort and money to have him repair it, so we canceled the claim, thinking that Matheson would be relieved and willing to work with us on future projects. I was "stonewalled"every time I tried to contact the owner about this matter, and was finally told by the Office Manager that they do not want to work with us in the future. WELL, WE DON'T WANT TO WORK WITH YOU EITHER! read more

I contacted them because their sticker was on one of the two furnaces in my recently purchased home. They responded quickly and sent out a Tech. who spent 2-3 hours investigating a completely failed unit. The issue was not resolved (a few possible causes provided). I was told he needed to contact the manufacturer and his supervisor to determine the best resolution and I would hear from either him or someone from the office within 24 hours. That was now over a week ago... still no response nor follow-up. I lost a couple of days before finding another service option. read more

I called around to get someone to come out and add some freon to my A/C system at the end of June, right when it got hot. It was just before the July 4th holiday when it was supposed to be hot and I had out-of-town guests showing up. The cost of the R20 freon has gone up since it is no longer being made. The wholesale price is now around $25 a pound. The technician showed up on-time and hooked up the pressure test equipment. He then went to his van and came back with an iPad with a menu of prices on it. I understand that there is a mark-up on a wholesale price. I understand that the technician and office expenses need to be paid. However, $550 for 4 pounds of refrigerant with no guarantee and $770 for the refrigerant and a sealant to be added to the system is a bit excessive. Kudos for showing up on time. Kudos for being polite and professional. However, I felt raped, taken advantage of, and used, for spending almost $800 for a $100 worth of refrigerant and a half hour of time. I will be in the market for two new furnaces and two A/C systems soon. I can guarantee who I won't be calling! read more

Our furnace quit heating early this past winter. We called Matheson and they had a service man at our house in 25 minutes. He inspected our furnace and determined that the flame sensor needed cleaning. He then made some further adjustments and charged us only the cost of a service call. Our furnace has been working fine ever since. We recommend Matheson based on our experience. read more

I was charged over $500 for a repair that did nothing. My air conditioning wasn't working. The repairman told me that there was no coolant. He said there may be a leak somewhere, but he wasn't able to locate it. He recommended the "band-aid" repair from his list of 4 options and told me that would get it working for a while, but he couldn't say how long. If I decided to do a more serious repair in the future the costs could be adjusted. The whole thing felt more like dealing with a salesman than a maintenance call. He recommenced a fix, then had 3 different up-charges available too. I agreed to the band-aid because we were going to have temps in the 90s for the rest of the week. He charged the coolant, took some measurements in the basement, then told me it was all set and left. I ran the AC for the rest of the day, right up until I was ready to go to bed, and the temperature didn't drop. At 10:00 pm it was 81 degrees inside and 78 outside. Nothing was fixed. My repair was done on Friday before Memorial day. The after-hours answering service told me I could have a tech come out if it was an emergency, but otherwise I would have to wait until Tuesday. That's today, and I still don't have AC! They called me at 6:00 pm and left a voicemail that someone should be out tomorrow. This is actually my 2nd bad experience with Matheson in less than 3 years. The first was water in my basement caused by a pump attached to my furnace. They quoted a price over $1,000 to replace the pump and fix everything. I googled the pump and found them online for less than $100. I declined the service, was still charged $90 just for the visit, then I called a contractor I know. He came over, looked at it for 5 minutes and told me there was a clog in one of the hoses, he blew it out with an air compressor and it was 100% fixed and is still working today. These guys can't properly diagnose a problem, then they try to sell you stuff you don't need. If they can't fix it tomorrow I want my money back. read more

I am beyond frustrated! In April of 2011, we paid over $24,000.00 to have a brand new system put in our home. We have had nothing but problems with it. Matheson has sent people out many, many times since it was all installed. Today our coils froze up. The outside was completely covered in ice. It was over 80 degrees out and we still had the ice. My husband called Matheson to see what the warranty is on this because we have had enough of this nonsense. We were told parts are covered until 2021, but they no longer service our area. Really? They don't service what they installed? I guess once they have your money, they really don't care about the customers. This has never been properly fixed or the problems would not have continued over seven years. My advice would be to find a company that stands behind what they install and know how to properly fix it. read more

My A/C stopped cooling and I called Matheson with some trepidation. It's easy be taken for a ride for this sort of repair and I hadn't done business with them before. I called at 10am and they were able to come out in the afternoon. They properly called when they were on their way. Most importantly, they didn't try to make me buy a new A/C or recharge it or anything like that. They found a bad capacitor and ended up charging $240 + $100 service-call. Unlike auto repair shops where they now have to separate the part cost and labor and leave the bad part behind, I'm just left with a total bill leaving me with the suspicion that I paid $200 in labor (+ service fee) to install a $40 part. By most standards that would be a rip-off but in this business it's probably about as good as you can expect. So next time something happens I will likely call them again... read more

The Technician was very helpful; explained everything he did and the importance of maintenance. I did feel silly with the 'repair' he had to make. The Heat Sensor in the furnace was dirty and not sensing wether or not the heat was on. Which automatically shut down the furnace. So all he had to do was wipe it clean. But...better to have a professional check it out then follow a youtube 'expert'. Will call again for heating or plumbing. read more

I didn't end up going with matheson, so this is more about the impression I got from them. The qouter that came out was nice, personable, and knowledgable. They only sell carrier (and Bryant?). He took the time to go beyond just replacing the furnace. Had he been the lowest cost, I would have gone with him, they happened to be about ~10% higher. Otherwise, they were the kind of person I'd let in my house without me being there and someone who I am positive would have done a good job. read more
