Last year, I gave this company 5 stars and now it's 1, but I guess it all depends on who you get to come out. I just had such a terrible experience with Cummings Plumbing that I will not be using them again. Nick, the plumber who came to my home, was unprofessional and made the whole situation uncomfortable. First, he was cursing constantly while working, very inappropriate, especially with my kids in the house. It was really unsettling to have that kind of language in my house and it left me feeling uneasy as my husband wasn't home. To make matters worse, he didn't even tell me he broke the panel he needed to remove to access the plumbing behind the shower. I only found out after the fact when I saw the damage. On top of that, he removed shelving and clothing rods to get to the panel, but didn't bother to put anything back in place. He just left everything scattered on the floor, including my clothes! It was disrespectful and left me with a mess to clean up on top of everything else. I expected a lot more professionalism, especially for the price I paid. I will not be using Cummings Plumbing again and definitely would not recommend them to others. read more

We needed a plumber to repair a rocking toilet. Nick, from Cummings Plumbing went above and beyond. We mentioned we saw mold on the ceiling below the toilet, and once Nick got the toilet off he had to cut off the flange and put on a new wax ring and caulk. He was here for several hours and was very professional. He was very thorough. Our home is 73 years old, so not always an easy fix. Cummings will be our go to plumber. read more

But they still gave me a friendly reply with a fair estimate for what they would charge if I were in their service area which they didn't have to do. I would totally use Cummings Plumbing again for my plumbing needs. Their service was excellent, and their price was very reasonable. When I phoned them, they were able to get me in within just a few days and I was able to explain the problem. I had perfect experiences with this company when I began dealing with them a few years ago. On the first job I had two toilets installed and saved hundreds of dollars compared to other estimates because they had a moderate service charge and then charged by the hour. On the second occasion, Tony did a superb job and even followed up the next day with information that he thought I might need. Since then, though, their service charge has NEARLY DOUBLED! And that charge is not deducted from the cost of their service, which is quoted now at $85 an hour IN ADDITION to that outrageous $150 service charge! A few months ago, I had a very minor service performed. (I didn't know until later that a skilled handyman could have handled it--my fault.) Their guy was in my home for 20 minutes and I paid over $260! I was quoted an outrageous price for another job that would have taken maybe 30 minutes. I am really sorry to no longer patronize them, but their prices are just outrageous. read more

Contracted for several small plumbing jobs. First was to rebuild a toilet. I asked that he make sure the new kit would work, but first he dismantled the old toilet such that it could not be reassembled. Then he said the parts didn't fit and he suggested I get an all new toilet (along with another service call fee). Then as he had extra time he super slow walked the other projects at $85 an hour. Even as he walked back to the truck he went very very slowly. Also, every time he left the house or return from his truck he left the door open. Rest of work was completed competently from initial look. Later after Cumming's plumber left - original equipment that I was told wouldn't fit were installed (Not by Cumming's) and toilet works great. read more

I've been using Cummings Plumbing for years - their work is always exemplary. Needed someone to correct a previous shower faucet install (the previous installer used plastic shims that were loose and the faucet stuck so far out into the shower, it was almost 3" too tall). Daniel got things sorted in no time, was a pleasure to deal with (very polite and professional), was able to correctly shim with a wood 2x4 as well as strap the pipes in place so they didn't wiggle, and he re-sweated a new spigot on to account for the additional length needed. Ignore the dripping solder - that was from a previous technician not affiliated with Cummings Plumbing. Highly recommend them - Daniel was great and he's been with them for decades. I called to have a gas line installed at 11am and by 3pm Dan was here! Dan was the best! It wasn't an easy location to install a gas line for our new stove but he was up for the challenge and got it done quickly. He was so easy to work with, professional and polite. Had a great experience with Cumming's Plumbing. I had requested a quote online using Yelp to have the two main shutoff valves in our home replaced (before and after the meter). Emily replied thoroughly and in a reasonable time frame providing all the information requested. We were able to schedule the service for a few days later all through the online communications. As previously arranged, Tony contacted me early the morning of our appointment to let me know he was getting materials together and would be at my home in Canton shortly. Tony checked out the location of the meter, which valves he needed, and gathered his equipment. The Canton Public Works department was less thorough in their job the previous week and could not get the main water supply to actually shut off this same morning. They had to contact their maintenance crew to come out again and redo their previous work. Tony was able to get started with second valve, after the meter, while Canton Public Works addressed the issue outside. Once Canton finished, Tony continued his work and replaced the shutoff valve before the meter. By working smart, and efficiently, Tony was able to complete the work well within the estimate I had received. This made for a very happy customer all around with Cumming's Plumbing. I would definitely recommend them and will call on them again should the need arise. read more

Cummings came out really quick called in advance and they were early. What I thought was an easy fix took about an hour and a half. My only complaint is their $75 fee to come out and we were told after the first hour ($80 an hour) they billed in 15 minute increments . we were charged $85 an hour and a full 2 hours. Most recently I had Tony out 6/12/23 to switch out a faucet, install back up for the sump pump and address a hammering problem with my washing machine. I waited 4 weeks before posting a review and wish I could leave 6 stars! Dave (the Owner) and Brandon were absolutely amazing! They installed a new dishwasher and replaced the wax ring on a toilet for my elderly parents. They wore masks and shoe covers and were completely professional, efficient, courteous, warm and comforting to my mom. Brandon is a big teddybear and managed to juggle removing the old dishwasher and installing the new one, all while answering my mom's endless questions (ranging from "Did you play football in high school?" to "Where is the filter on the new dishwasher?") My mom's floor and/or the countertop aren't perfectly leveled and John immediately identified and pointed it out to her and tried to split the difference so that the gap wouldn't be so noticeable to the eye. This was our first time using Cummings and are so grateful to have been referred to them. The entire team and operation are A++. I would be remiss in not mentioning Emily and Nancy, the receptionist/schedulers. Many businesses lose potential customers before they can even become an actual customer because the receptionist/schedulers are unfriendly, curt or just plain rude. First impressions matter! I am sure every company has good and bad reviews. Unfortunately, this company fell really short of a good review. My Mom had to get a hose bib replaced on her house. First guy came and said the ball valves don't work so the city will have to turn off the water. He was in/out within about 8 minutes which includes about 4 minutes of my mom writing him a $85.00 check for his time. WTF? My mother, which is a pretty patient lady, said this guy was extremely rude. It was Friday at 5:00, so I get it...but he just walked in, twisted a couple valves and said, nope I am not doing this today, sorry we have to come back. $85.00 please. Nothing friendly at all. I call and asked why he couldn't just turn off the TWO valves and just crimp on a new hose bib. Yes, I understand they would leak a little....He said he didn't bring that crimping tool with him, the "other guys" had it and only option today he has is to sweat the pipes. So with him not bringing the correct tools, my mom now has to schedule another trip out...So we schedule another visit with them, asking that this first guy does not come out. They scheduled the water to the main to be turned off by the city. That went as planned. The person changed a total of 3 valves and the bib. No issue there. But for the labor, he was at our house at 8:35 and was gone by 11:20. I figured 3 hours of labor...which seemed pretty long to replace 3 valves and a bib...but okay, maybe he was having a tough time? When getting the bill, they charged us for 4 hours - said "well you have to figure transit time". This company is located 2.1 miles from our house. So he was at our house less than 3 hours and we were charged for 4. Yeah, I thought with some good reviews, this company would have been a good pick. I have used Cumming's Plumbing a few times, and my recent experience in the last week has left me disappointed and frustrated. My previous experience last year was that they are at the higher end of pricing, but they are reliable and did quality work. Last week, I had them out to replace water filters for a reverse osmosis system. They quoted the pricing prior, but when they arrived onsite, they brought an apprentice with an additional $20+ fee that I wasn't aware of. I expressed this to the office that they need to notify customers of these things in the future. A day after installing the filters, there was a leak, which wasn't there before the replacement took place. I contacted them to come back and repair the leak, and I was told that I wouldn't be charged another service fee if the reason for the visit was tied to the previous service call. In addition, I was having them repair my sump pump connection which unexpectedly broke over the weekend. Upon arrival, the plumber assessed the situation and said he was not responsible for the leak and that the connectors needed to be replaced. This was not told to us the previous week when he was onsite. Because of this, he charged an additional service fee for the call. When I expressed my displeasure over this to the office, they told me there was nothing they could do. For being a family-owned business, I expected a different level of customer service and understanding in working with repeat customers. It feels like they are simply gouging customers with these fees. I've worked with many plumbing companies in the past, and I've never experienced something like this. I am stunned this company has such a high ranking. If I could give negative stars I would. They took advantage of my mother in how they installed a sump pump and serviced it. After repeated calls to them to fix the pump as it would NOT turn on, they would wiggle the installed switch, say it worked, and then it would fail again. Since this debacle and because of how Cummingsy made it drain out when it did work they have water damage in their basement. read more

The township came up with a mandate which required that every home with a sprinkler/irrigation system had to have its backflow prevention assembly tested and certified. I had utilized Cumming's Plumbing on multiple occasions in the past, so, when I saw they were on the list of state-approved backflow testers, I gave them a call. A gentleman named Daniel came out. He seemed very experienced and professional, and he answered several questions I had while he did his work, adding some helpful observations and suggestions to optimize my sprinkler system. Even though our system was on the older side, I was pleased that his testing indicated that it passed. After he completed his official work, he went above and beyond by offering to take a brief look at the controller module inside the garage, which had given me problems, and he gave me some advice about that. A surgery left me a bit down and out, made worse by a backed up sewer line. That sewer is the bane of my existence. In December we fired our old plumber which felt sad and good and bad and everything all at once. But we didn't have time to find a new one - and of course the "fix" from the old plumber failed. Again. At first Cumming's was not going to be able to come until the following week, but after I explained our situation (literally after surgery the only thing that provided relief was a hot shower) they did squeeze me in on the same day. I cried happy tears. The also reviewed my video from the prior plumber. It isn't good news, but at least Cummings explained the video from the other plumber - an easy task which was never done by the other guy. Cummings isn't the cheapest guy on the block, but he did me a solid by coming the same day and explaining what needed to happen to my sewage line so we don't continue to dump $1000 / year into it. read more
