I just had such a terrible experience with Cummings Plumbing that I will not be using them again. Nick, the plumber who came to my home, was unprofessional and made the whole situation uncomfortable. First, he was cursing constantly while working, very inappropriate, especially with my kids in the house. It was really unsettling to have that kind of language in my house and it left me feeling uneasy as my husband wasn't home. To make matters worse, he didn't even tell me he broke the panel he needed to remove to access the plumbing behind the shower. I only found out after the fact when I saw the damage. On top of that, he removed shelving and clothing rods to get to the panel, but didn't bother to put anything back in place. He just left everything scattered on the floor, including my clothes! It was disrespectful and left me with a mess to clean up on top of everything else. I expected a lot more professionalism, especially for the price I paid. I will not be using Cummings Plumbing again and definitely would not recommend them to others.

Instead of being upfront, the company tried to charge them $670 to "come back the next day with a bigger machine." This felt like a bait-and-switch tactic. When I called to speak with a supervisor, I was refused and told the customer service rep could "handle it." Rather than making things right or helping my parents with their plumbing issue, the company simply canceled the job and refunded the money, leaving my parents still without a working drain. While I appreciate the refund, the lack of transparency, poor customer service, and treatment of elderly customers is concerning. I would not recommend this company.

They did a good job but when I asked them about some follow up work, most notably the stack drain in our home (which was beginning to rust where it takes an 90 degree turn) the guy who did the work (not the initial guy we worked with over there) quoted us a really high number for the repair and basically instilled the fear of God in us re: the job (e.g, it's going to go any minute now, it's going to take tearing apart your kitchen to get to this stack, it's going to cost a scary amount of money, etc). Needless to say, as first time homeowners my husband and I were pretty terrified and didn't have the money or the energy to deal with demos, renovations of our kitchen, etc. So we did what any normal person would do in this scenario--we ignored it! And so we basically pretended the problem didn't exist for 2.5 years, all the while holding our breath that this thing was going to leak at any moment. Finally, I got so nervous about this that I decided to be brave and get a second opinion so I sent the awesome folks at Lenox a message here through Yelp (via the new "get a quote" function. Try it, it's awesome!) to just see what they had to say and through messages we set up a time today for them to come by and take a look. I'm SO glad we did this. Chris came promptly at 1pm (we were given a window of 1-3pm) and took a look. And praise be, he told us the problem was not that bad and we had several more years in it before we really need to do it (the complete opposite of the other guy who was trying to get us to commit to a multi thousand dollar job in a matter of months). He told us he'd recommend that we wait a bit longer and replace it when we plan on doing some other home renovations (which we've been talking about doing in the next few years anyway). He said they'd be happy to do it for us if we wanted but it wasn't really necessary yet so why rush it and do demo twice if we don't need to. Basically he really put our fears at ease and gave us a more workable timeline, which made is so much less stressed about it. What I really loved, though, was how complimentary he was about our house and how he didn't seem phased by the job itself. We've had so many contractors, plumbers, etc, give us a hard time re: our nearly century old home and complain about how much extra work these types of jobs are. The previous plumber who did the pipe replacement just moaned the entire time about the job (I'm beginning to think he didn't want to do the job which was why he made it sound so terrible). Not Chris, he loved the character within our home and seemed really supportive of making sure we do it the right way to keep the integrity of the home intact. So so grateful! So we've decided to hold off on that job for a bit longer. But in the meantime I did ask him about a leaky faucet we have in the basement bathroom sink. He took a look and is going to email me a few quotes with two options: replacing the faucet altogether and just repairing it. We'll have them come out soon to work on it and I'll update the review once this is done but I have full confidence they'll do a great job.

It was a slow drip but it was the galvanized pipe and it had a crack in it. No choice but to have it replaced but we couldn't back the pipe out so we called Mike Higgins at Phoenix. He came out the day after Thanksgiving and showed up right on time which is pretty much unheard of when you call someone to do service on your home. Mike explained the best and worse case scenarios and we were lucky the pipe came out easy so we got the best case scenario. He could have replaced that piece of galvanized pipe left it at that but instead he re-piped EVERYTHING under the sink so it would all flow better. Then he even snaked out the bathroom sink drain which had been draining slow and no amount of Drano was helping it. In September 2024, Z Plumbers installed a Navien tankless water heater in our home. What followed…read morewas 16 months of ignition failures, cold showers, and a crash course in troubleshooting a device they clearly had no business installing. The unit failed to ignite almost immediately. Their first diagnosis: not enough gas. I had just upgraded my gas meter with DTE, so that didn't sound right - but let's investigate. Their fix months later? Install a pressure regulator because too much gas was coming in. Then in September 2025, they replaced the control valve and other components. Still broken. By December 2025 they removed the very regulator they had installed earlier that year. I honestly started to wonder if they were just throwing parts at it to see what stuck. The real highlight? Every time my wife tried to shower, I had to reset the unit. It got so predictable that I eventually installed a camera and a home automation system so I could reset it remotely. After 5 visits, hours on the phone with Navian, and 5 failed attempts to resolve the issue, my tankless heater "upgrade" became an IoT project, a topic of frequent dinner discussions, and source for frequent profanity-laced screams as my wife was hit with freezing water in the shower. Don't get me wrong; they tried. It wasn't a lack of effort, rather a lack of know-how. In March 2026, a different plumber came out for an unrelated issue. I mentioned the water heater problem. His Navien specialist came out a few weeks later and -- I want to be precise here -- identified five major installation errors in under 60 seconds. Armed with this additional information, I gave Z Plumbers a final opportunity to make it right. They never responded. I paid the new plumber to fix the mess, and the unit has worked flawlessly ever since. I can run multiple faucets simultaneously with no loss of volume or temperature. It's like having a new water heater -- because effectively, we do. Bottom line: Z Plumbers may be fine for standard plumbing work, but tankless water heaters are a different animal. Based on everything I experienced, I'm convinced they do not have the training or expertise to properly install or troubleshoot these systems. Do yourself a favor and find a better installer. You'll thank yourself every morning.
