Stopped in for a casual dinner a few weeks back. Place was pretty crowded for a weeknight but then again it was also 6:30 PM. The line was moving pretty quickly too for the amount of people that were there. I had not ordered at brassica in a long time, so I appreciate the staff giving me some reminders on which absence were which. I did get the bowl with the brisket. I also got several vegetables. The brisket was very tender and well cooked. My foot itself was pretty good, but it was relatively expensive I thought. Their food is a little pricey and this is not something I can afford often, but if I am tight on time or want to eat a meal out this is one of my go to restaurants. It is kinda pricey compared to other BYO bowl places, so we don't go very often. I would definitely say it's worth a try, but there are other great options if you're trying to save some money. I took a quick trip up to Columbus for the day and decided to stop at Brassica for some dinner before driving back to Cincinnati. They were so busy the line was literally out the door. It was freezing outside, but it was worth the wait. The salad bowl was so fresh and the brisket was lean and flavorful. My boyfriend and I had to each get our own Brassica fries on the side. They were seasoned perfectly, and the sauce was sweet and complimented the seasoning perfectly. We also tried the minty pink lemonade. I usually get the salad option, akin to a bowl, with a base of lentils and greens. Protein choices include falafel, vegetable mix, chicken shawarma, or harissa-rubbed brisket. I've always gotten the chicken shawarma and the flavoring is really good. Next comes the vegetables (roasted carrots, marinated eggplant or cauliflower), and you top it off with a variety of sauces. My go-to sauces are the 'special' sauce (think tzatziki without dill) and roasted red pepper. In addition, you can add either hummus or baba ganoush, as well as crispy onions or crushed up pita chips to give it a crunch. The ingredients are fresh, delicious, and blend together wonderfully. One downside for first timers is that the menu board is posted on the left hand side near the front entrance, which makes it difficult to view once you get to the serving line. I'm not sure if they have handheld laminated menus, but imagine that could be helpful. In addition, the food is rather pricey for similar style restaurants -- my most recent bowl was $16 without a drink or any extras (i.e. the fries, which are pretty popular). Brassica is a typical set up for a fast casual restaurant. You walk in to a modern environment and a counter where you can see all the food and pick what you would like and your toppings. The staff were friendly and very efficient. Their pita is very thick and light and fluffy. It makes for a wonderful sandwich. They braise brisket daily and it is incredibly tender and full of flavor. The other toppings available are unique compared to other Mediterranean restaurant offerings but they mesh well together and each individual item was clearly well thought about and crafted with flavor. As a side I opted for brassica fries which have a wonderful seasoning and come with a house made sauce for dipping which is truly a fantastic pairing. Brassica is one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus! Having said this, they have some opportunities. 1) 90% of the time I visit I have to wait for falafel. I get that they want it to be fresh but at 12p - 1p you'd think that they'd make enough for the expected lunch rush. There were two others waiting for falafel besides me (wait time ~ 5 mins). This has been the case at both Lane Ave & Easton sites. 2) Why does the salad cost $3 more than the sandwich? I can tell you from +10 visits that it's not because you get a larger portion size with the salad. Seems like they are taking advantage of those customers that order salads (which I've noticed is the majority of people). Oh - kale and cabbage is more expensive - probably, but I get the same portion size with my sandwich. 3) During my visit today I got a sandwich. After waiting +5 mins for the falafel to be ready, they began making my sandwich. When it was clear that the sandwich would be overflowing (see picture) I asked if I could get the last three items on the side. I was told, "we'll do it this time, but we normally can't". What? So - you don't mind inconveniencing the customer to get their food and then it seems like the right decision to explain company policy when the customer asks for a side cup? BTW - no, "I'm sorry you had to wait so long to get your food". Only, "we'll do it this time...". I sometimes think folks have lost their minds. 4) The portion size is inconsistent. It seems they worry more about the artistic creation of the food than giving the same portion visit to visit. Chipotle has this same problem - improved training would address this Will I continue to come to Brassica? YES - the food is great! I frequent Brassica and always enjoy the experience but after tonight I will think twice about going back. They try to be an upscale fast casual restaurant that charges a pretty penny for their food. Tonight I asked for a few extra carrots on my salad and the worker told me that "we are actually limiting patrons to 6 pieces" and wouldn't give me a few more. First off I do not even think there were 6 pieces on my meal to begin with. Second off, that is a great way to lose customers over a few slices of carrot. It was extremely rude and I would think twice about your new "business model". Food costs may be rising for the restaurant industry but they are also rising for your customers.
