First off, I'd heard a lot about this place not just online, but from various locals. I was looking forward in trying something a little nouveaux...a little experimental so I made reservations a month in advance. I really like the concept of this place. The staff are friendly, the space is open, contemporary and not overly esoteric. It's a modern well put together quaint bistro-restaurant.
But the main entree I had was what I will briefly describe as being strange. Strange in that it was...weird.
It didn't look weird at all, it looked delicious. But this one dish in particular had so many red peppercorns in it all I could taste for miles were red peppercorns. A floral, hot, spicy, rose-like flavor that only went away 30 minutes after I was done eating. The dish I believe was the scampi spaghetti in a light tomato cream sauce perhaps with saffron? That's only going by the menu description because all I could taste, again, were red peppercorns.
The other dish I sampled, their curry chicken apple fettuccine concoction was created using what I can only describe as a Westerner's version of curry (powdered form?). Not Jamaican, not Thai, not Cambodian, Indian, Indonesian or Vietnamese. Slightly sickly sweet....heavy on something, perhaps Tumeric?
At any rate, pretty much a let down for me and my traveling companion.
I wish this place the very best, but along that route I suggest they really adjust the balance of their ingredients. read more
