I got recommended this place for a wheel alignment and the price is pretty cheap around the area where I lived because I had to get price estimations because nowadays I feel that a lot of mechanics will hustle for more money by saying that the car needs all these extras and that a wheel alignment shouldn't be so much. I got in and out of this place within like 40 minutes I believe and the mechanic guy who took care of me was super nice! I told him my concerns and they got the job done right! They told me I had a pretty bad alignment and they showed me paperwork for it and oh when I drove it on the freeway, it was bliss. So my car was taken in to brake masters june 30th to get brakes done in the front and in the rear and an alignment. It was fast and quick thought grade a service. However yesterday 8/27 while driving home from work I noticed a loud grinding noise my car was making and I could feel my car driving different. I had to pull over and have my car towed in to a mechanic. According to the mechanic the grinding noise was traced back to 1)my rear backing plate being bent really bad, 2) needs rear brake pads because they became damaged 3) the right rear brake hose became damaged 4) the backing plate bolts were completely missing. 5) needs rear rotors because they became damaged I called and informed brake masters of the damage. They stated bring it in and would work on it to get it fixed, but said if it was their fault it would have made noise a long time ago. It has been less than 2 months. When asked if they would cover the costs, they said only the products that have warranty will be covered. Stated "I'm glad your okay but we can't say it's our fault bc it has been two months". I'm just completely at loss somehow this isn't their fault and the screws just apparently fell off less than 2 months after being worked in by them. My father had recommended them bc of their warranty products and he has taken my car and various cars of his own there, but after this it's really not worth it. They lost 3 customers today. Second time here for an oil change and both times they've been honest, quick and efficient. I would highly recommend this place. I love how they review everything with you and make suggestions. They told me about a belt in the engine that was ready to snap. They didn't put pressure on me to replace it but they showed me the belt and how damaged it was. These guys were great! Very honest mechanics and totally fixed the issue with my brakes. The lifetime warranty on the brakes is also very cool. The cost wasn't that bad either, it was at least cheaper than the last place I went to (Firestone in Montclair is absolute trash, see my other review, don't go there!). I had used to go to the Brake Masters in La Verne back when I was living there (the place in La Verne is also very good). In short, I think its worth getting a $40 diagnostic here - the front desk attendant and mechanic were both really nice and ultimately they diagnosed the issue correctly. I took my car here because I often had to pump the brakes to get the car to actually start breaking. It felt like there was air in the lines, but after talking with the Jiffy Lube guys they said they thought it was something more and recommended I get it diagnosed before spending money to bleed the brakes. Brake Master diagnosed the issue as a failing master cylinder and quoted a repair cost of $609. I always get multiple estimates before I commit to a service, especially for auto work since I feel like mechanics tend to try to take advantage of younger females who seem like they have no idea whats going on with their car; so I called 2 other the places and both were around $400. Thus, I ended up getting the service done at a different Brake shop and paid $385. The reason I recommend doing the diagnostic is because then you know exactly what needs to be done and the nice thing about here is that its a flat $40 for the diagnostic, whereas at other shops they charge per hour but they cant tell you upfront exactly how many hours its going to take to diagnose the issue. Once you know what the issue is, you can compare prices with other mechanics and make the best financial decision. The $385 that I paid did include another diagnostic fee because of course every shop needs to investigate for themselves, but in the end I still saved $184. Also, who knows maybe they charge a bit more for a master cylinder replacement, but for other issues maybe they are more competitive. read more

First time here and won't be our last! The employees here are friendly, fast, professional, and most importantly HONEST! Finally an auto repair shop that's honest! :) We usually take the cars to the dealership for "free oils changes." But they make up the money they lose in giving free oil changes by "finding" something terribly wrong with the cars that need major repair while they are changing the oil. Jigga wut? We're only at the dealership for oil changes and did not ask to have any additional car service checks. We actually regularly check our car tires and fluids and haven't notice anything out of the norm with our cars. But, we're no fools and get a second and third opinion. A-HA! We confirm the dealership have lied to us! Tsk tsk... shame shame. They need a time out. SMH. Well, we canvassed around for a reliable and an affordable place to change the oil and brake pads. Hence, we are here at Brake Masters! So glad we came here instead of the greedy and dishonest dealership. Brake Masters saved us time, money, and headaches. They're awesome. Long story short - 4 stars for nice honest service. Minus 1 for gross bathroom and graffiti remnants on the bulk of the windows. Long story: I really hate coming to places where I know I have to spend money I wasn't planning to spend. That said, my experience here was actually better than expected. The guy at the counter (I forget his name, sorry!) was very nice, personable and HONEST! I can't tell you what that means to a woman who had to take her car in for any service whatsoever. Yes, I said HONEST! A few months ago I bought tires at Costco mainly because I had to but also because they had a coupon and purchasing tires there means you get free service (rotations, inflation, etc) as long as you own the tires and maintain your membership. Anyway, the problem is that those guys at the Montclair location are a little overzealous when torquing, so much so that they broke a few lugs and stems. Luckily they reimburse for that and they recommended that I go to this Brake Masters. To be honest I was skeptical because this place is not located in the best area, in fact it had been tagged with graffiti recently and although they washed off what they could, the graffiti looked like it was permanently etched in the windows. Anyway, the guy checked out my car, gave me a quote and had his guys get to work. He came back and told me that there were actually more stems that needed to be replaced. He still stuck to the initial quote and worked the numbers in order to include the additional parts and labor. Wow! Come to find out that while there is more labor involved, they generally buy these types of parts in a set so that wouldn't have cost him any more but the labor does of course. I am not a person of means so even though I would get reimbursed for these costs, I still had to front the money so keeping the cost down was important to me. Especially since it's literally down the street from my house. Was greeted from the moment I walked in the door and the great customer service didn't stop there. My car, is a 2011, and has over 240k miles. I rarely drive this car, especially since having my son, Ive been driving my other car. So this car has been basically abandonded, sitting by its lonesome. So to make a long story short, I brought my car. I explained my cars history, and after so, they made recommendations. Took my car here for an alignment, they said they tried to align the car 3 times but couldn't get the steering wheel to align, said the steering wheel is facing to the right but don't worry the wheels are perfectly straight and that there might be a suspension issue causing the wheel and tires to not align... When I started driving the car the alignment was veering left to the point that the steering wheel had to be kept at 15 degrees to the right in order to go straight. I then take my car to the dealership to fix the "suspension" problem and after they looked at it they told me it was just a simple alignment. After the dealership alignment the car now drives perfectly straight... What a waste of money for an "alignment" at Brake Masters. read more

My mom was recommended to come to this place by a family friend. He gave this place a great review. My mom decided to come to this place to replace her breaks last week. When she was given her car back the breaks were still making noise so she decided to call them about it. One of the workers told her to bring her car back when she got there to explain the situation with the new break. The employee who helped didn't believe her, he kept implying that someone else decided to move something to the car that's why her new car breaks were making noises.
