I've been a patient for almost 10 yrs! Dr Chesler has a nice rapport with my husband! He helped us a lot when my husband was laid off from his job. The office WAS very professional & the staff courteous. However, for over a year, it has been very challenging! The girls in the office are wonderful w/1 exception! Jasmine has been extremely rude & hateful toward me! Sadly, she's the 1 person who checks the patients in. This person/position represents the office, greets patients & assigns patient placement! I'm usually about 30 min early but always the last to be seen. I'm usually seen an hour or so after my appt time. Oddly, it was never that way for 9 years! I don't expect to be seen early, I do expect to seen within a half hour! To be seen last every visit this year, regardless of the appt time, couldn't be a coincidence! I recently had a problem with the pharmacy because my prior authorization wasn't faxed over till several calls with Jasmine! I finally returned to Dr Chesler to pick it up then I was told it was sent! A useless hr! I've issued a complaint to the Dr & the office manager Jean/wife. Nov 26th I spoke to the person directly! Jasmine, w/her co-worker listening at the door, openly answered *I have no problem w/you*, then stated *I don't talk to you* said it all. She's a greeter/receptionist so that's the point exactly! Oct 24, 2019 the office manager was in the Escondido/San Marcos location & it happens that Jasmine spoke to me. I had to ask another employee her name. We're at our best when the head boss is the office! Loyalty should count for something. In 10 yrs, this situation is my ONLY complaint! Dr. Chesler needs to fire or retrain his front desk receptionist. She was very rude, thus did not care to get her name. I belong to a PPO and was looking for a doctor who worked with post-polio patients; however, after calling the office for the first time and talked to the front desk girl, I did not get a good feelings about the ways the office was being managed just from the ways she answered my questions: very rude and disrespectful. read more

I feel terrible for the couple complaining about not having the wife's pain managed because "Dr. Chesler just started cutting her meds back for no reason, and she often runs out. You must not have asked Dr. Chesler to explain anything to you. What probably happened was he cut her meds by a percentage required by the DEA, FDA since the first of 2018. I've been a patient of Dr. Chesler's for about 8 years, maybe 10. I am in chronic pain that just won't get better. But my brain has developed so many receptors fot the opiate I take, and the more I take, the more they don't work. Dr. Chesler told me that he was targeted by Feds because of about 25 patients (myself included) who had been on opiates for a LONG TIME WITH NO IMPROVEMENT IN THEIR PAIN. Then consider the opiate crisis, The accidental ODs, the deaths caused by acquiring black market drugs online from providers who aren't monitored by their Govts, so their labs aren't monitored, and the pills you subject yourself to could be innocent sugar pills, or they could be the right ingredients mixed in a way that provides a toxic tablet or a poisonous pill. Dr.Chesler is no coward, believe me. He has to fight for each of the 25 patients ( I asked him if I was on the list; he said "Yes, you and about 25 others." He ABSOLUTELY SPOKE NO NAMES. Maybe your wife hasn't realized that she wouldn't run out of pills if she decreased her intake to correlate with the decreased number of pills dispensed. It's pretty easy; divide the number of pills by 28(days between appointments). That will give you your daily limit, and if she has to, She can even take half a pill per dose . Then on top of that, he gives us a 30 Day supply. I take my extra two days and put them in a separate "bad day" container. I may or may not use them, but if i need some extra help on a particularly bad day, pain wise...I have it. For all the patients on his "titration" or "decrease monthly" lists, he especially fights for. Again, I'm referring to the complaining couple: you cannot imagine how many phone calls he makes and takes for each of us. You can't imagine how much paperwork is involved, to be completed by him. And when you finally DO get to the pharmacy, the Pharmacist can actually refuse to fill the prescription as written. Dr.Chesler is not "picking on" your wife; he's making sure, by being thorough and meticulous, and working as best as he can with new allowable numbers of pills being questioned by Pharmacists. Have you been in the exam room when your wife sees him? I ask, because I've never ONCE gotten out of the room WITHOUT a complete discussion about how my gradual reduction in dose is working and WHY he is having to do it. Following it in the papers also helps me understand more about it. So I'm sorry, but I have to say that your entire review is completely off, and sounds very one sided...as if you don't go in with her. Dr. Chesler is also trying to absorb as many abandoned patients as he can, and he's hired three Physician Assistants to help with the tremendous flood of pain patients new to his Practice. The new patient flood was caused by Pain Management Specialists all over San Diego County. I'd say at this point, Dr. Chesler has the right to ask patients who are unhappy with his care to go elsewhere. I know of no other medical office I've ever been in that has a happy core crew amongst all the chaos. Everyone has a specific area of running things, and the office runs smooth as clock-work with everyone fitting into place like pieces of a puzzle. Almost every issue I've ever had come up that's a problem for me, or just something I don't understand, I can get an answer with a resolution the same day. Same thing with problems with my insurance company, my prescription coverage, even when I ask Dr. Chesler to contact my Internist or my Orthopedic Surgeon. Brenda and Liz and Jean (I think she's a "Medicare Whisperer", will take on seemingly insurmountable tasks and they always surprise me but somehow, whatever the issue, find THE way to fix it. I've been going to Dr Chesler for over 10 years and would highly recommend him to anyone! he is very professional, caring and fights hard against big insurance companies, pharmacies & government regulations that limit pain medication for those who genuinely need it. I never made it to see the doctor to know if he is good or bad...never could get thro the staff. I still don't understand what or why they put me through what they did. I had authorization to see them, this alone took several calls, and I know they had it in hand...then came chart notes needed from my primary care doc?? After several calls, and my primary care doc not understanding what they need, I was told they would call me when they researched everything...I asked when? They will let me know...this was after I was asked some very odd questions about why my doc would send me to pain management and who else I had seen, and other weird questions...very stressful...and I still don't know what I did wrong?? This hard to get in door, can't imagine how difficult it could be once I'm finally "accepted" into practice. Many other pain doctors, do not need the stress, what a bad experience.... read more

I used to be a patient here until I was fired just because of going to the ER too many times, but that's my fault. However, my main complaint is not about me, but it concerns my wife Gwen who is a current patient. She is legally disabled, blind, and she suffers from Degenerative disk disease which causes her much pain chronically. She has been with him for over 5 years, and up until this year, she was able to adequately manage her pain with Rx pills. When he started cutting her back on medication for no reason at all other than fear of prosecution from the DEA, CDC, this is when things went south - she has tried alternative therapy and NSAIDS before and they do absolutely nothing to alleviate her pain and often cause her to feel worse or completely out of energy, including THC. She is now often bedridden every day, she cannot function as she used to, and her overall quality of life has been debilitating ever since he started cutting her medication. It's now gotten to the breaking point that if she doesn't have any medication in her UA tests, she will be dropped, and the only reason he gave for lowering her meds was due to fear of the CDC/DEA. Meanwhile, I've had to do what I can with her to keep her going, but it is stressing me out and ruining our relationship because she used to be so independent and now I am the one who has to care for her like I would my grandmother. However, I am now threatened with losing my own job due to excessive family absence even though I would be protected legally by the FMLA, because companies often take a gamble when firing someone or will find loopholes in the law since CA is an at-will employment state. I want to keep my job and I don't want to lose Gwen, but Dr. C doesn't sound like he cares anymore if she is gone because she has never complained to him out of fear. The truth of the matter is The medicine she is getting is not lasting her an entire month because it was so drastically reduced because Dr. C is a plain coward and cares more about his job than the suffering of his patients, which is understandable given that this nation has fallen into chaos over opiate crises. That being said, I feel that it is absolutely unfair to her to be suffering because of this, and it's unfair to me as well for having to put up with seeing her in agony every time she gets a major migraine headache or any other medically documented discomfort which she has time and time again submitted to him to prove she isn't an opioid addict. I do not know what is going on internally within that office, but I know deception, cover-ups, and lies when I see them. I don't blame him for being a coward, but I do blame him for not adequately controlling her pain. Has this happened to anyone else? Please share your stories. read more

Dr. Chesler is by far the best doctor I've ever had. He is very kind and takes his time to talk to me and check in with me. He truly cares about his patients and isn't one that gives you 5 minutes and out the door. He is interested in your life and gives you other forms of pain management like exercise and hobbies. Dr. Chesler has been an amazing doctor thus far as well as his staff. I truly enjoy every moment I am at his office, even for a doctor's office. The staff is a true pleasure and the atmosphere is pleasant. The front area is very homey-like. The chairs are very comfortable. Every time I come here at my scheduled appt time, i sign in and wait over an hour to be seen. There is always some lame excuses about why the 8 people who signed in after me were seen first. It's really unfortunate because most people have lives, priorities, other appointments and can't sit for an hour and a half without prior notice. This office has serious scheduling problems and gives very disrespectful representation and regard for the clients. read more

I have only been in Dr. Chesler's office one time so far, but I have to say that the staff at his office is extremely professional, yet kind (which aren't necessarily exclusive of each other, but too often are). Dr. Chesler was very attentive, and I felt that he really listened to me. He has a great sense of humor, which, given the fact that I go to him for my pain issues, lightens the mood considerably! I previously wrote a positive review of Dr. Chesler, but I am sorry to have to revise it now for the benefit of potential patients. Dr. Chesler seemed to me a knowledgeable physician and a nice person. I had been seeing this doctor for several months. At one point it was discovered that I hadn't met my deductible, and so owed the practice about $150. I arranged with the office to make payments at each visit over and above my copay until the balance was payed off, and have done this. My last visit was on Oct.1, and as usual, I made my payment and there was no communication that there was any problem or that they wished for me to make a larger payment. On Oct. 9, I was shocked to receive a letter from the office saying that I needed to call a number (not the office number) immediately or I would cease to be a patient of Dr. Chesler. The letter said that I was sent a certified letter (which I was) and included was a form to request records to send to my new doctor. Because I thought so highly of Dr. Chesler, I couldn't imagine he would agree to such unprofessional, manipulative, unheard of tactics. If the office was having financial troubles and needed me to make a larger payment, they could have communicated it to me. I believe I acted honorably and decently with this office, and in turn, I didn't receive the same courtesy. I called and left a message of my concerns and did not receive a return call. The next day I did speak to someone in the office, and I thought the doctor had perhaps turned over his accounts to an agency that received a commission, and so would be eager to shake down patients with balances. It took a while to drag out of the staff that the person responsible was Dr. Chesler's wife Jeannie. I was told a number of things by the office, that this person, "owned the practice," and was, "Dr. Chesler's boss. Okay, so now we have the truth. Although a doctor may remove a patient for any reason if 30 days notice is given, once an agreement and contract is made, a business cannot call in the balance. Since they accepted my payment of $50 on Oct. 1, along with other payments, that constitutes a contract. Please don't tell me you didn't agree to this; if your office did, then you did too. If a business wishes to call in a full balance, then they would be required to refuse any partial payment, which they certainly did not. There was zero communication or warning that I would face this highly upsetting and totally unexpected treatment. Even if a patient hadn't made a payment in a while, this is not the first line of contact. Usually the office will seek to set up a payment plan, which I already had. While speaking to the office, I asked, "So, am I not going to be able to make my next appointment?" The answer was, "Sure you can." They made an appointment for me. A few hours later I received a message on my machine from Jeannie, the wife, "Call me right away. This will affect your appointment." Jeannie, I am not ignorant, nor am I on narcotics as many pain patients are and unable to think clearly and so fall for your scheme. I am surprised that you would go to this much effort since I only owe the office $75. That's right, you forgot to credit my last payment when you decided to enact draconian measures. In my nearly 60 years, I haven't had one medical practice ever do anything like this, even when I owed a significant balance. So, today I came home and discovered another message from Jeannie. She said that my appointment was canceled, since she couldn't get a hold of me. Well, Jeannie, I will save you the need to play your script for me. As much as I like Dr. Chesler, it is not worth it to have to deal with you to see him, and if you treat me like this now, who knows what the future holds? I have 3 pages of doctors with this specialty within 10 miles in my plan search engine. By the way, you need to provide a patient with a 30 day notice, and as I received your communication on 10/9 and today it is 10/21, this is a violation of medical ethics and perhaps more. I think it would have been fair to have received informed consent of "nice doctor but nasty wife who calls the shots," prior to engaging with this practice. It really doesn't make sense to me, as they would lose $150 by canceling my appointment for a $75 balance. I would have sent this communication to the practice, but they have no email. Dr. Chesler did not return my call. No, I don't want to listen to whatever Jeannie has to say, considering how she has treated a good patient despicably. I feel worse for the disabled and narcotic requiring patients who are forced to endure this. Perhaps there is more to the story, as it doesn't add up. Maybe they are selling the practice and want to collect all the balances now, I don't know. I do know I won't receive treatment where there is a breach of trust. read more

Well where do I start I've been a patient of many years and just recently I have noticed that the office staff that they have has been nothing but rude! Brenda has been there a while but she just always seems too busy to help out the office and then you get her on the phone she just always says to follow up with her in 2 weeks! Liz is just not friendly what so ever, Jasmine on the other hand just is a mess all the way around! She has everything every where she gave me a receipt that was not even mine! I don't see how Dr Chesler or his wife don't see the rudeness that goes on in that office! I've spoke to Adriana in the billing office and she's so sweet n I have redirected all my concerns to her if I need to cancel or reschedule I just call her! I wish she could be the one at the office all the time! And boy should I talk about HIPAA patient information available for everyone to see! This office needs major help read more
