I unhesitatingly recommend Dr. Patel. My experience with this doctor and his entire office staff was wonderful. Dr. Patel listened when I explained why I was there, and did an examination based on what I said was bothering me (as well as reviewing the information sent to him by the referring physician and the results of the x-rays they did in his office before I saw Dr. Patel). He explained and showed me the problem in a way that I could clearly understand. He then explained the different options. The option I chose to go with involved what I knew, and he confirmed, would be two painful injections. He was so skilled in doing those injections; they were indeed painful but I believe they were a lot easier to tolerate due to his skills. He is professional, personable, very through and very knowledgeable. I felt like he really carried. A word about his office staff; every single person I encountered from start to finish, including the person who called me to schedule my original appointment was wonderful. Jimmy, John, Juan, Andre and whatever name you people choose to use to disguise your voices is hilarious. Try making an appointment, keep patients on hold for 16 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes supposably locating a referral, checking the computer, the fax is down, and making numerous excuses is totally unacceptable. My doctor office calls you people, Jimmy and John blatantly lies to them. This entire office staff are completely dishonesty and a poor excuse for professionalism. read more

One month and one half trying to get through to the front desk to get my right finger looked at. It's a hard deposit caused because tools always hit precisely there and it naturally has reacted over the years by becoming calciferous yet sensitive like a gonad indelicately hung outside my body. One month and one half staying on hold and counting down the number of callers in front of me only to be dropped by some mysterious time out process disallowing someone the opportunity to remain on the line longer to waste their life further. And so it goes. And then, when the young yet mostly inept front desk attendant confirms that the referral is for my left hand I do the right medical thing and correct her indicating that it is, in fact, my right hand. She puts me back on hold telling me that she needs to call the referring physician to get that changed. I'm still on hold as I type this. Hour 6 trying to get a simple appointment for a known problem with nearly complete information. I am going to claim that she put me on hold as a punitive measure to me begging her just to give me an appointment date. It's now been an additional 30 minutes. I am going to use that 30 minutes to warn everyone to avoid the front desk of Dr. Patel's office. The system they are using to do simple things is broken causing them to waste an inordinate amount of time causing you to wait on the phone for an hour now just to get an appointment causing the poor people who called in behind you to wait on the phone for an even longer time and so on ad infinitum. While it is Definitely my right hand, it's the left side of the finger (when looking at the back of the hand) and though I try to appeal for ignoring left or right for the best sensibilities and in the name of getting off the phone so the next poor fellow might have a chance of scheduling an appointment before they die or the office closes. I got an appointment! I sure hope the front desk reads this so we can spend the time I'll be forced to wait in the room designed for that purpose trying to fix their scheduling process which is so simply broken. It'll be a simple review of information gathering and phone realities from the customers pint of view. read more

Six months ago, and I'm still on disability from this. I broke my leg in three places on a Saturday. I had surgery at Palomar hospital and thank the lucky stars that Dr. Patel was the one who did it. He did an amazing amazing job. My leg healed beautifully. Four months later, me being me I managed to fracture my heel stepping down off of a stool a little bit too hard. And again Dr. Patel has taken care of me beautifully and I'm healing again. Every time I go to that office I don't wait an excessive amount of time. When I call the office my Issues are taken care of right away, the staff is friendly front office and back office. Andrew in particular is just wonderful they should clone Andrew and sprinkle him about in every medical office in the country. And Raffi who is the one who builds all my casts is kind and patient and just wonderful to see on my appointments always happy, smiling it's nice to have that in a medical practice, not to mention he's clearly excellent at his job. Not that everybody else there is not just as wonderful as these two gentlemen I just don't remember all their names. They are All wonderful. Dr Patel and the other doctors there, whom I have not interacted with, have put together a wonderful staff. So the doctors who are exemplary, have a staff that is exemplary backing them up. Clearly I do not wish broken bones on ANYONE but should you go out and break bones doing whatever your life allows you to do, go see Dr. Patel. And if it's an emergency and you end up by ambulance at Palomar hospital in Escondido, request Dr. Patel if it all possible I don't know if it works that way but if he does request him. I'm sure he has privileges at other hospitals I just don't know which ones they are. Great doctor, horrible Archhealth system as some others have stated. I am too ill to try to continue to attempt to make an appointment, to get through after waiting on hold forever and unable to leave a message, given the difficulties. I hope that Yelp, unlike Healthgrades and Vitals, used to be reputable, but Covid has caused honesty to go into the toilet - dumps the review, perhaps because it was too long or clients pay to have bad reviews of Archhealth horrible system, no portal - check Glassdoor for how they treat their employees. If I can get someone to go to the office, nearby, we will try to make an appointment. Doctor is honest, funny, very gentle - too bad he isn't associated with a working group. He was honest in recommending PT instead of surgery when I discovered the surgery center he used had horrible reviews. He sent me to an excellent PT, also horrible system, with Palomar, put me in patient room with a dozen therapists and patients during Covid prior to vaccine - yeah, they said, it was distanced. Instead of a bed in a large room or bed in patient room, with my bad back I was forced to sit in painful wooden chair, so had to leave early. I didn't inform them of my severe back problems, but yeah, it was for hand therapy, so I get it. I never thought to ask, just never expected this. read more

I don't blame Dr Patel for performing unnecessary wrist surgery, my diagnosis was difficult. But the surgery did not help. After months of no relief and no improvement from OT, he insisted on another MRI. I left 5 messages trying to schedule reading a useless MRI. Eventually I had to seek out another dr just to read the damn thing and be left after 3 years of problems, still undiagnosed. I've still never received contact from his office, post my 3rd MRI! Lack of care, is what you'll get! He'd be happy to operate! read more

**Long overdue Review** I had a very severe ankle break in March of 2016 and this Dr was a blessing. From what I have been told, he was merely covering for another Dr at Pomerado Hospital in Poway and was given my case. From the beginning of the process ( which included an extensive surgery; to the very end when we shook hands, embraced and told me I was good to go ) he and his staff was not only understanding but definitely available to answer any of my questions. I was referred to Dr. Patel by my doctor's nurse. I called to make an appointment on December 5, 2014 at around 11:30 am. The receptionist was hostile from the moment I opened my mouth. She asked what kind of insurance I have and I replied, "Medi-Medi." She asked, "What's that?" And I said, "Medicare-Medical." She said, "Never heard of it. We don't accept that here." I have always heard that Medicare patients can go anywhere so she must be out of touch. There are millions of us probably in California alone and for her to not know about it doesn't say much about her experience, even if the doctor she works for doesn't accept it. It never hurts to be kind to anyone and now I am totally turned off of this doctor through no fault of his own. I would never go there because I am not going to take a bunch of baloney off a girl with a dismissive attitude every time I visit his office. Maybe others won't want to as well. I broke my hand in a bicycle accident on Labor Day. The ER doctor told me to follow up with an orthopedic doctor, and Dr. Patel got me in the next morning. He has a great bedside manner, he and his assistants are caring, kind, and thorough. I knew someone who had a bad ortho experience with someone else, so that was fresh in my mind before coming to Dr. Patel. He and his staff put me at ease right away - Patel is sharp, explains things clearly, and is more than willing to take extra time to answer any questions. Not to mention, the surgery went off without a hitch. I have to schedule a second surgery with him and hey, at least I'm not dreading it. I was assigned Dr. Patel when I was hospitalized for a broken shoulder. He sat right down next to my bed and explained the fracture and his plan of giving my shoulder a few days of rest and to decrease swelling then would do surgery in a week to stabilize the joint. When he came in the following day and after reviewing my cat scan he suggested that I not have surgery and that I be treated conservatively using other methods such as ice, rest, PT, exercises etc for 12 weeks. I was hesitant but agreed to plan when he stated he would have the same recommendations for his sister or mother. I started PT the following day and continued plan of care for 8 weeks when I was released as I no longer needed it. I was shocked that I completed therapy and recovered so quickly as I did at the age of 64 yrs. Dr Patel treated me with respect and was always willing to discuss any concerns I had. He is very personable as is the staff handling appointments and follow up care. I would not hesitate to have surgical procedures done by him and/or refer any friend or family member to him. As a retired nurse I have worked with many doctors and found him to be open and honest and appreciate a surgeon who did not automatically want to do surgery but to treat with more conservative methods. read more

I have terrible insurance and his staff was able to help with me with options to make my surgery a possibility. For that, I'm forever grateful. I'm writing on behalf of my husband who doesn't use Yelp. He saw Dr Patel for a wrist injury after a bike accident. The office was great and got him in right away. Dr Patel is professional, actually listens to the needs of the patient and provides the best options for a solution. In my husband's case it was 6wks in a splint. No surgery needed but I know he was well trained at UCSD & is a great surgeon. There are not so many choices for a good Hand Surgeon in North County. We are lucky to have him in the area!! Staff is great. Dr. Patel leaves a lot to be desired. Took a family member in to see him with a very severely broken arm. A temporary cast was applied. After two weeks, arm is now turning a dark gray, and nothing has been to help the situation. The emergency room said to go see a Orthopedic Surgeon. Insurance company came up with guy.
