I had originally purchased these Oakley's from Optical Reflections and thought I had lost them (later found!). Although I had a good buying experience eight years prior when buying the Oakley's I thought it would be wise to do some comparison shopping. I did a lot on on-line research before going out and actually visiting several optical shops in the Chapel Hill area. I had decided that I wanted to get some Maui Jim sunglasses this time around because as an avid boater, I learned that the Maui Jim's were highly regarded by boaters for their clarity in the marine environment. I found that although some of the other local shops (that carried the Maui Jim brand) were fine, I was treated especially well at Optical Reflections. Fred, (one of the two owners) actually remembered me, which I found amazing since it had been eight years. He was very knowledgeable about all the prescription sunglasses and yet not pushy. The shop had a very large selection and I was given lots of time to try on the various models. He offered good insight when asked but didn't try to steer me toward any particular choice . . . which I found quite comfortable. It took me two visits to the shop before I was sure of what I wanted. Once I decided on the particular model the ordering process was fast, efficient and accurate. I say "accurate" because when the glasses arrived about two weeks later I was thrilled with them. As a professional photographer the visual world is important to me and therefor I'm Ok with the higher cost of a quality optical product. This purchase has turned out to be one of my most satisfying buying experiences in a long time. The excellent service provided by Fred and the outstanding end result have inspired me to write this review.

I simply needed new lenses bc I took mine with me to the gym and they got messed up. It's literally been 12 1/2 months since my last visit but I was going to make an appointment anyway to see if my eyes had changed any: After I had made the appointment the lady or gentleman said "oh I just want to let you know you have to get an additional test the provider wants you to have and that's $50 on top of your deductible " uhm listen to what you just said. You want me to pay for something THE PROVIDER wants to do. I Bet they do want to charge everyone $50 extra but it should be a choice not a you have to do this bc the provider wants extra money. I just requested my prescription and will order it online. So much for being able to build local relationships bc everyone is so money hungry it's not enough to see someone for what their insurance will cover. You now have to try to squeeze more out for a test that is NOT necessary for a routine eye exam. I will Be moving myself, wife and kids to another company that doesn't force services on you.ppl can barely afford to buy groceries and you want to add some extra stuff is wild.

I have a severe phobia about eye exams, especially the procedure to measure pressure. My last…read moreattempt at a different practice 20 years ago had been so stressful dealing with impatient staff that I stopped going. A recent problem with my eye made me look for help. I was able to get in within 2 days at North Raleigh Family Eyecare. I explained my phobia. Dr. Griffin and the other care providers were caring, patient, gentle, and gave me the space to work up to the scary parts of the exam. I returned twice more for continued care for the issue. I recently went in for a regular eye exam. Each visit has been wonderful. My fear has decreased to almost nothing thanks to their patience. I've now interacted with 6 or 7 other members of staff besides Dr. Griffin. All have been warm, helpful, patient, and professional. I absolutely love this practice and am so happy to have finally found a place that does not treat my fear as annoying and frustrating. (I've always relayed my issue when making appointments so staff would be aware of it. But other practices didn't exhibit the calm patience needed to lower my stress level.)

Her exams are thorough and she takes time to explain and to ask questions. The only downside to the practice is the limited frame selection, many of which are very similar styled. I've also had a not great appointment booking experience recently and will brush that off to the heavy reliance on automation.

Eyes are sensitive organs and I was not told anything about the machines or tests that were done during my exam unless I asked about them, but I was also not given time to ask about anything before it happened. I felt like I was being experimented on because no one would tell me what the hell was going on. Keep in mind this was my first eye exam in years, and my second ever, so I had no idea what was supposed to happen during this appointment. I told them this, and they still treated me this way. Horrible overall experience, and I would not recommend for anyone who likes explanations, has sensory issues, or has not been to an eye doctor before. I will never be coming back.
