The doctors and staff at the location in Smithfield are great. Turnaround time on new lenses are great. However this 1 star rating is because of the poor customer service in the billing department. Little did I know until today that I had a refund owed to me from 15 months ago! Had I not asked them about it, they would just continue to keep my money. They also owe me a refund over $300 from overpayment of services and they tell me I must wait 10-12 weeks for them to process the refund. Even for the money that was owed to me over 15 months ago. I work in the business world and I work with clients that are sometimes owed refunds and NEVER do we keep their money until they ask for it and then tell them to wait 3 moths before we send it. I will definitely go back to a mom & pop eyecare company. I've always had great before and after service with them. read more

I have been a customer of Eye Care Center for over a decade. I go every year. I've been through location and doctor changes. First, they send you lots of texts and calls to schedule your annual appointment which say schedule on the website. Second, when you go to the website, it says to call. Third, when I called to schedule an appointment, the person who took my call, although polite, insisted on asking all these questions. I politely answered some. Then, it was clear that she was asking everything. I politely said that all my information has not changed. I she said she had to ask the questions as her job required it. I repeated all my information is the same, and I just need to schedule the appointment. She repeated it again saying it was her job. She said I have to ask these question and acted like I was out of line for asking her to skip them. At this point, I was frustrated as I'm extremely busy and just wanted to schedule an appointment as I have in the past. Not empowering your employees to deviate for protocol and not being customer focused just cost you my business as this is sign of your continued decline as a business. I do an eye exam and buy two pairs of glasses most years and contacts some years. Note, this is the last straw for me as I've stuck with them as their customer service has gone down hill over the years. I'm done now. I do not recommend this location. Avoid it. Avoid useless redundant medical paperwork and questions. read more

I started seeing Dr. Weitz in June for a contact lens exam. My previous eye doctor told me I could never get contacts and wouldn't even discuss with me what the problem was. Dr. Weitz explained why finding contacts may be more difficult for me but was willing to try as many options as it took until I found a pair that worked for me or until I give up and decide to stick with glasses. I've been 7 times and tried on 10 different contacts. I'm still not 100% happy with the contacts and Dr. Weitz scheduled me for another appointment to try more options. I am very happy that Dr. Weitz and his staff have been so patient and helpful. I don't feel rushed at all or pressured to pick a pair and pay for them. Everyone is friendly and easy to talk to. I feel like Dr. Weitz genuinely cares and wants to help me. read more

Times are difficult due to COVID-19 but this did not stop the Eyecarecenter employees! I loved that the entire staff wore facial coverings, made me feel that they were prioritizing health and safety. The tech Maria was very helpful from start to finish as well as Dr. Weitz. He was very informative and made me feel comfortable during the visit. When it came to the fitting of my glasses Marygrace and Adrian were fast and helpful and I was given a run down of some amazing offers. Overall if I could give 10 stars I would. I will recommend the eyecarecenter on 119 E Hargett St to my family and clients, a great atmosphere throughout. read more

Horrible service. Offensive too, when I went to get my check up they seemed to be very concrned if I could pay when leaving. This was after they called twice in the days leading up, once to remind me of the appointment, which was appreciated, then to make sure I could pay.. I was told the only woman to order glasses was sent home early because "We figured you wouldn't be ordering glasses". I always thought he point was to sell your glasses. Since this, I found a cheaper place but, at the time I was looking for convient. This place proves neither. I also have had trouble getting them on the phone. read more

This place is super convenient if you live in or near downtown. The staff was really friendly and the eye doctor was great. My only complaint-- I have been wearing the same contact brand for 5+ years now and the doctor still insisted that I try on a pair of lenses and that he check to make sure they were a good fit. For which I was charged an additional $65. I know that contact lens evaluations are standard for new wearers or if someone is switching lenses, but I felt that this was completely unnecessary. And $65 for a "trial" pair and for him to examine my eyes for an addition 30 seconds seems odd. So make sure that you don't get sucked into an extra $65 if not needed. When I complained about this, they offered me a few trial pairs which I felt was fairly handled. Be warned parking might be a bit tough, particularly in the middle of the day. read more

I wouldn't normally consider an optometry appointment something to rave about, but I probably had one of the best eye appointments and customer service experiences I have ever had, at this office. The front office staff was very friendly, courteous, and professional from the moment I walked in the door. They helped me immediately. I did no prior paperwork, and was asked to fill out one simple form. Dr. Kathryn Manton was absolutely fantastic. I gave her a little history on some issues I'd been having, and she really dug into what was going on. She highly impressed me with her knowledge, and genuinely cared about the situation and trying to correct it. You owe it to yourself to make an appointment with her. The recommendation that she ultimately gave proved that she wasn't there to sell me something. Patients look to their providers for solid, honest advice. If this location is convenient to you, look no further than Dr. Kathryn Manton for your provider. You'll be glad you did. read more

Dr mark SALOPEK is the best contact lens specialist that I have ever used, I have been wearing contacts for over 30 years and i have been to several different doctors over the years, and I have been a patient here for about 7 years, we have tried many different contacts, and i can say without a doubt Dr. Salaopek is the best doctor that i have ever worked with, I love my contacts and i have never enjoyed wearing contacts as much as i do today. I've been going to this location for years now and been seeing Dr. Weitz for over 20 years. The staff is very friendly, appointments are easy to make and there is little to no waiting upon arrival. They are no-pressure on sales of glasses etc. If you live or work downtown I recommend them. If you don't just be warned that it is downtown and parking can be an issue. I work downtown so it's just a short walk up the street for me - extremely convenient! read more

Dr. Mark Salopek is my doctor, I have worn contacts for more than 30 years, and I have been to more than one doctor, and I have to say that i have never enjoyed my contacts as much as i do now and I think Dr. Salopek is the best eye doctor that i have ever been to, he is so thorough as to suggest which saline is best and which eye drop to use and always lets me know what's new, so today he made me aware of a new daily disposable contact that i could try, i am wearing a multi focal contact now and i am very happy. I have been a patient of Dr. salopek for about 7 years and we have tried many different contacts to get me where i am today, overall everyone here is friendly and i always enjoy my visits. read more

Went by this location to pick up my glasses and they had a sign posted, 'meeting scheduled from 9a-10a, come back' is pretty much was it said. It makes no sense that a business would schedule a meeting during business hours. Why not schedule the meeting before you open, from 8a-9a or after you close. Instead you inconvenience your customers. Idiotic move! read more
