Boundary Stone is so hip it hurts; hurts so good. Following the "reclaimed wood" trend, this little bar feels earthy and almost divey - as if its been around for decades - despite its no doubt pricey decor (like weathered bricks, a tin ceiling, metal fixtures and a concrete floor). Its run by awesome bros, with great taste in music and whiskey and bourbon, who are upping the ante in Bloomingdale, and rotating very pourable drafts to complement their canned offerings. While some may complain about the narrow layout and small size, hopefully the seating limitations will serve to keep Boundary Stone as the neighborhood gem it is destined to be. read more

Used Yelp to locate nearest Italian. Upon approaching I almost kept walking. You aost don 't realize it's there. Place 70% empty on Saturday night on October. Told me no seats for a single except at the bar. Started to leave but , changed mind. Had the basics prosciutto, Tre Colore salad, linguini with tomatoes and basil. Excellent Barbera by the glass. And by the way, the place was packed 15 minutes after I sat at the bar. Travel a lot , eat out a lot. This place is a true neighborhood treasure in DC. read more

I live in Bloomingdale, so I've been to this neighborhood watering hole a few times. If you want a good selection of local, craft beer with a staff who is knowledgable about it--this is your place. The fish n chips is positively Ah-Mazing; fresh with a rich, buttery flavor and crispy breading. Like other reviewers said, the chicken wings are damn tasty. I've also had a couple of pretty good bacon burgers here, too. The outdoor sidewalk seating is a great place to people watch the neighborhood happenings. read more

Went here for dinner last night. They apologized for a limited menu due to renovations to the kitchen - only a few sandwiches were available and no sides except chips. We ordered beers, a burger, and a cheesesteak. Neither were good. The bread on both was not good. It was particular bad on the cheesesteak (my dish). It was pretty much stale to the point of falling apart before it reached my table, and this has nothing to do with having a partial kitchen. I stopped by for brunch and had an overall OK experience but wasn't that impressed with the food. I had made a reservation, and the wait to be seated was short and the hostess was friendly when I arrived. Our waiter was prompt with everything and perfectly pleasant too. The ambiance of the place was nice overall - the standard exposed brick and high ceilings. But, we were seated in a side room that opened to the front door, so it was quite cold as people came and went. While the room appeared to have fans and A/C for warmer weather, there was unfortunately nothing to heat it it seemed, and we ended up having to keep our coats on for the duration of the meal, which was awkward. We ordered brunch entrees and mimosas - huevos rancheros and fried chicken and waffles. The huevos rancheros was fine, but very basic without much of interest to it. There was also not very much food at all, and it left me pretty hungry. Fortunately, I was able to eat half of the fried chicken too, but again found the chicken to be underwhelming - it was overly fried and dry inside, as well as very salty. I headed to Boundary Stone last weekend and was a bit disappointed. I'm hoping that things will be better on my next visit. I agree with other commenters -- there are great things at this place. I loved the decor, but more importantly, the beer selection is excellent. The staff was also friendly and accommodating. Overall, the vibe was good. Unfortunately, the food was less than stellar. In particular, one item I was stoked about -- the seitan wings -- weren't actually in stock, and our waitress wasn't sure when they would be. Great hot wings and French fries. From friends: the shepherd's pie was disappointing as was the flavorless fish and chips; bacon burger and the blue burgers are tasty; the carnita quesadilla is great; and the mac and cheese is yummy. We live in Bloomingdale and have tried Boundary Stone four times. While we've enjoyed the simple, down to earth food, the respectable beer list and the neighborly atmosphere, we have not had a great dining experience. We like beer quite a bit, but we're not bar folk. Because Boundary Stone's bar is always full, we've always opted for the "dining area". Unfortunately, this side room is narrow, tightly arranged, very crowded, too loud (the music is more at bar level than restaurant level) and generally lacking the warmth (temperature & ambiance) of the room next door. The biggest problem is the giant barn door that nobody seems able to close properly, allowing a chilly and annoying draft to dampen your evening. It seems that perhaps Boundary Stone is better suited as a bar than a restaurant. read more

Had lunch today at Boundary Stone Public House. I ordered the Bleu Burger with the red beet slivers on top. Absolutely delicious! I sat outside and chatted with neighbors as they strolled by. Boundary Stone is good. Its very small so the tap list is only 8 deep but usually has a decent variety and has local beers they also have cheap cans if yo want to save a buck or two. The spirits list is extensive and ever changing. Morning bloody maries are super spicy (I dig that, but had a friend who was really turned off) All in all a chill decently priced place to drink. The staff is relaxed and friendly, never pushy. Also a pretty well curated jukebox is no charge. Only 3 stars because the kitchen offerings are just to artisan for me. Bar food should be simple and definitely not pretentious, or at least have a balance. Plus the owners are Philly boys so where's the cheese steak fellas? read more

Probably my favorite bar in the city. Small beer list but filled with rotating options from local breweries (typically 3 Stars, Atlas, DC Brau, Chocolate City, Flying Dog) so you can try some interesting local beers. The food menu is also not huge, but I haven't had something yet that I didn't hugely enjoy. Both burgers are great, the chicken sandwich is delicious, and the wings are stellar with a sauce that is both a bit sweet and spicy. The jukebox has great music and is free, which is always a plus. Gets pretty packed on Saturday nights but has a solid vibe every night of the week. read more

Ive been looking forward to coming here for a while. Especially since I moved down the street from the place for a while. Everytime I went by the place seemed packed so I tried to time my visit to avoid that. I was successful and was able to grab a table outside around 7:45. Obviously they have an abundance of whiskey options but I didnt get the sense that my waitress was a whiskey expert (granted I didnt ask). I was a little bummed to find out they dont do happy hour on fridays and happy hour specials never apply to whiskey. I dont really know what to compare the drink prices to since I dont frequent whiskey bars but they seemed decent (mine was $6 for single pour). I have to say the food was not good. I got the fish n chips and the fish had NO flavor. I had to drown it in ketchup for the salt taste. The fries were nothing to speak of. It would've been nice if they seasoned then with a little rosemary and/or parmesan. Lastly the table was swarming with flies/insects. Twice a fly found itself to my cocktail sauce- I sent the first one back but gave up on the second one. It was annoying to have to swat flies away in between bites. Service I thought was just ok. I never got checked on so I constantly had to ask for more water, ketchup, etc. All in all, I was expecting a little more. I might be back for brunch or happy hour but I'm in no rush. The place seems packed inside though so if you just want a bar and dont care about food or service and live in the area, its pretty much your only option so enjoy. read more

Old faithful. Like your favorite pair of adidas. Goes with everything and makes you happy every time. Fortunate to have this as our (sort of) neighborhood bar. (We live in NoMa, so this is the closest thing around that qualifies as such.) Have never had a bad meal here. Standouts are the burgers, wings, fried pickles and steak. Brunch is amazing - best deal in town on unlimited mimosas/bloodies, and they keep 'em coming. Incredible french toast. Their prices are right on, and the staff is fun, friendly and no bullshit. Almost forgot: they have the best brussells sprouts in DC. I'm kind of a brussells sprouts nerd, and these never fail. read more

Boundary Stone is a good place to have a drink or several. Its like stepping into a bar located in a friendlier, less stuck up city. Call this pub part of the casual but hip bar scene in DC, where you can get a well-concocted cocktail and, if you need to dilute the potency of the drinks, good but very basic food. The beer selection is good---ranging from standby beers everyone knows to local brews that, in a more verdant world, everyone could enjoy (of course, the presence of well-known beers is likely to offend some in this town---the same type that heard a great new band so they dispatched them before anyone else could hear them). And depending on the occasion seasonal drinks like sherry eggnog are truly the breakfast of champions. Friendly ,if not exceptional service is the new norm when there is not a crowd and good service when there is a crowd. Most weeknights there will be a crowd, but this is the type of bar where you can drink as early as they are open, as only bores avoid drinking during the day. Just as the bloomingdale neighborhood is underserved, joints like this are too few in DC. As for cocktails, all that I've ordered have been fine to great. Generous pours, no attitude, no mistakes. Good and attractive staff and owners. As for food, the burgers are bold, the fries are good, and the specials are more hit than miss---from the deviled eggs to beets, they usually get things right. The food is pretty good and compliments the drinks well. On belief and information, avoid the fish and chips, but maybe that will change with time. One should note they stay open, so if you are getting off work late you can still get a drink. For all of this, let's call the owners local saints who have delievered us from downtown by providing tasty victuals, restoratives, and beer. read more

I love this place! Their food is delicious. Seriously, I haven't met a menu item there I didn't like. The falafel, carnitas quesadilla, fried pickles, burger and fries (with house made ketchup) are among my favorites. They also have a fantastic rotating beer selection. Last week I enjoyed a beer called Thyme after Thyme that was hoppy with notes of orange and brown sugar. Who could ask for anything more in a beer? And if the food and beer aren''t reason enough to go, the owners seem to really love Bloomingdale and are eager to create a true neighborhood bar for its residents. Last week, I mistakenly thought that Boundary Stone opened for lunch at 11:30 instead of 12. It was cold and windy outside and I had my baby with me. These guys take "neighborhood bar" to a whole new level. I have never felt so welcome in a bar in my life. The food is consistent and unique. II won't comment on the beer because I stopped drinking beers. The whiskey/whisky/tequila /gin selections are un real. Staff??? Great example of style over substance. A Hipster haunt getting great word of mouth for what is perceived to be a cool atmosphere. I just wish they had actual ketchup. The staff makes no attempt to make you feel welcomed or even seat you. The hummus is good but if you need more than app for a meal you'll want to go somewhere else. Service was pretty awful for the most part. My burger was just ok, but the french fries were really delicious and crispy!! The sever took forever to clear dirty dishes and when a friend showed up at the table after we had already been there for a while, the server completely ignored her the first time around. Also, she seemed very confused the whole time. Examples: 1) my burger came out super burnt and awful-tasting when I asked for it well done, so my friend asked her to replace it for me. The server did replace it, but it took forever to come out (as a result, i got my drink for free!! thanks for that!) and when it did finally come out, she gave it to my friend (who still had her own plate in front of her) instead of me. Huh? 2) My friend ordered a beer, and she handed the beer to my husband, who already had a beer in front of him 3) I handed her my credit card, watched her swipe it through Square, and then she gave my card back to my friend instead. Again, huh? Maybe she was just having a REALLY off day...idk. Anyway, not impressed by the food or service and I wouldn't go back. read more

So I have been going to Boundary Stone since they have opened and I have to have the say the food "Just Sucks!!" I have had lunch, brunch, dinner, drinks and the food has gone way down hill. The pricing though still is going up, from $8.00 for wings to now $12.00. Really guys they not that good anymore.
