Not recommended. I had to pay $130 for simple eye exam that should have been completely covered by my vision insurance, because Botwin decided that they had done something "medical" rather than simple eye exam, so submitted claim to my medical insurance (which charges me deductible) instead of my vision insurance. The "medical" thing they did? Noticed I have mild cataracts, and said I don't need to do anything about them. This is the exact same thing I've been told for years by other optometrists who always submitted claim to my vision insurance, which covered the entire cost of the eye exam. Thus I had to pay $130 for them to tell me something I already knew, and that didn't need to be treated. I took this up with person at my medical insurance company, who told me that the insurance company had to go by the doctor's "code" for the claim, but that this "coding" sounded unreasonable to her, since the cataracts had already been diagnosed by another doctor, and aren't causing any problem yet. That person --- who works at the insurance company -- wondered if this was a way for an optometry practice to make more money. I don't know, but I'm not returning to Botwin again. read more

Had to buy a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker for $500 because the manager at Downtown Botwin refused to even listen to the problems I was having with the $860 frames they sold me. I had bought the frames two months prior, had them adjusted seven times at Midtown Botwin, but they referred me back to the overbearing, rude manager at the Downtown store. Almost all the employees at both stores are really great. This manager, though, should be restrained or let go. read more

Not only does Botwin eye group provide excellent care for their patients they also care for the community in which they serve. I went in to pick up some glasses and mentioned that I volunteered at St Elizabeth shelter for the homeless. I didn't ask for a donation but a staff member immediately gathered up reading glasses that were no longer being used and made a donation of several pair for our homeless population. I've been to the optical shop a few times to have glasses repaired that I bought before moving to Santa Fe. I was impressed with their competence and customer service so when it was time for an eye exam and new glasses I chose Oculus. I saw Dr Mikeala and was impressed with her calm manner and competence. She explained everything she was doing to me which I always appreciate. The optical shop staff were very helpful in choosing my new frames and lens. I'm very happy with the glasses. A very upsetting experience. The exam went very well as we thought the ordering of glasses was. BUT, we had to call to find out where the glasses were and was told they were in the office for a week and that we had been sent a text. Problem being we don't have a cell phone and they were told at the time of ordering to mail them to us as we live 2.5 hours away. Finally get the glasses and they are not progressive lenses as they were supposed to be; called a gentleman said yes I see they were supposed to be progressive you'll have to send them back so we can verify they aren't progressive and get them corrected. Not happy at all, another delay of 2-3 weeks. Now today get a call and am told I have to pay an additional 175.00 for the progressive lenses and that bifocals were originally ordered. Talk about a serious screw up on their end as both of us at the time made it VERY clear they had to be progressive. After wearing glasses for 70 yrs. I know what I can or can't use and this was made very clear. I cannot give their customer service a decent rating due to not paying attention and doing what is asked of them. Is mercury retrograde or something today? Everything that could go wrong has, and the piece de resistance was the arm of my only remaining pair of glasses breaking. I went to Ojo Optical first and the young man tried to be helpful, but ultimately I left with a still-broken pair of glasses. When I walked into Oculus a few minutes later, I was warmly greeted by Marinda, the cheerful, friendly young woman at the front desk. I explained my problem to her, she listened patiently and then she offered a variety of solutions. She told me a temporary fix would be to try and glue it and then she said, "why don't I see if I can pop your lenses into a set of frames here...". She found a pair of low cost readers and my lenses fit perfectly. The kicker is, these frames look even better than my old, beloved frames looked on my hard to fit face. Marinda, thank you -- you were the huge bright star in my otherwise rough day today! Thank you for your can-do enthusiasm. I hope your employer recognizes you for the asset you are. read more

This was the best optometry experience of my life. After several dreadful experiences at Eye Associates of the Southwest, I decided to try somewhere new. The offices are beautiful - well designed and chic. The staff is friendly and efficient. And they use lots of neat modern technology in their exams. The doctor was incredibly thorough with me and I felt like my eyes were well taken care of. I'm a bit of a glasses snob. The section at Oculus was fantastic. Though I didn't get glasses here (already have a few sweet pairs from Ojo Optique) I will definitely consider it for my next pair. read more

Fabulous opticians! I went to the St Michaels drive location and it was like walking into a palace for the eyes. Service was top notch, friendly, great attention to every detail. The technology is up to the moment, I have never had a more thorough eye exam. They moved me along from one test to the next at a smooth pace. But I never felt rushed, and they answered all my questions thoroughly. The prices were also extremely reasonable. Now I want to go in and treat myself to a new pair of glasses every month, just to have an excuse to go back and hang out with people who love their work and enjoy their customers. I had an appointment for an eye exam on February 24, 2022. I showed up for the appointment and was told the doctor was out since she had come in contact with someone with covid and they had tried to call me. I had no message, no missed calls and no texts. I said that at the time. I rescheduled with Dr. Botwin for April 11. I called in the morning to confirm and was told Dr. Botwin was out and they had tried to call me but it went to voicemail. I had no voice messages no missed calls and no texts. I asked them to check my number to make sure it was correct but she didn't know what my number was. Kudos to the Botwin eye group! The attention to patient safety in this Covid-19 pandemic was remarkable. Patients wearing masks as required, call from their car on arrival, are met at the locked door by staff wearing hospital grade masks. They check your temperature and ask questions about symptoms and travel. Then they allow you to enter and check in. Equipment is cleaned again before patient use and rooms are assigned to individual doctors and their patients. This was by far the best, most thorough eye exam I have ever had in my 20+ years of wearing glasses. I made my appointment for the exam and completed the COVID check prior to entering the building. Staff was awesome and very helpful when choosing glasses within my plan. It did take 2 weeks for the glasses to be ready for pick up but we made our appointment for picking them up and were greeted with the same helpful and friendly staff. On August 3, 2016 I arrived for an eye exam at Botwin Eye Group-Santa Fe-Downtown. I was scheduled to see Dr. Mark Botwin. His receptionist/nurse handled most of the examination... when the doctor finally arrived, he checked her work, looked at my eyes and told me my eyelashes were dirty. He then proceeded into a sales pitch for his eye care products while also trying to talk me into an "upgrade" to my eye test which included pupil dilation for which I refused because I was driving. I told him that I would live with the shame of dirty eyelashes for now... and with a look, I remind him that I was here for the eye exam...that was all. After this his tone became noticeably more condescending. I left the exam room to use the restroom while the doctor was working on his computer. When I returned he was wearing a rubber glove on his right hand which was a little odd because he had been examining me before barehanded. I sat back in the chair and he placed the exam lenses over my face and then immediately reached up... grabbed the back of my neck with his gloved hand and pressed very firmly several times... then he began rubbing my ear lobe and behind my left ear with some type of gel substance... I'm thinking... is this sexual or something? I'm totally confused. This all took place in a span of time under 5 seconds... I glanced through the lens and saw a sinister smile on his face... I knew then something was very wrong... he tried to do the same to my right ear but I jerked away. Then I heard the rubber glove snap and go into the trash. I just wanted to get out of there fast. He gave me my vision prescription and I had to ask him... "so, how are my eyes?" He replied, "oh, YOUR EYES are healthy... very creepy. As I was waiting at the counter to pay my bill... he kept hovering... watching me from across the room... just really creepy. A few hours later, at home, a rash begins to appear on my neck and around my ear...exactly where his gloved fingers had touched me. This "rash" turned into swollen, painful nodules that were accompanied by severe flu like symptoms that still persist as I write this. In my mind I kept feeling that rubber glove on my neck. I don't get sick. I've been ill three times since January 2014. I was in excellent health before my visit to Dr. Mark Botwin's office. I have been left wondering what toxin he rubbed into my skin and if I'll have some type of nerve damage since it persist and is affecting my central nervous system as well as my liver, kidneys, glands in my throat...and in a painful way, my neck and head. I contend that this unlawful and unethical behavior perpetrated by Dr. Mark Botwin was motivated purely by malice and revenge due to what amounts as nothing less than a personality conflict. I realized, at the time, that there was an air of contention in the exam room... but I had no idea he was angry enough to poison me. I am still in disbelief about the whole situation. He has no right to do this to anyone! Never have I received such poor treatment by a licensed physician. I am left now to visit other doctors and try to discover what toxin Dr. Mark Botwin has put onto my body. I still feel it in my skin. I have made an appointment to see another physician at a local clinic in hopes of discovering what toxin would damage my skin and nervous system this way... but I have to wait a week for my appointment. I can not afford the Emergency Room or Urgent Care... and I have no medical insurance. Dr. Botwin knew this. Dr. Mark Botwin has been reported to the Santa Fe Police Department as well as the appropriate Medical Authorities of the State of New Mexico. My main concern now is trying to discover what toxic substance was applied to my skin and ear.... and if there is treatment available. UPDATE:August 14, 2016 After doing research on the web, I have concluded that the substance intentionally rubbed into my neck and head by Dr. Mark Botwin was the neuro-toxin, BOTOX. It is used by Optometrist to treat conditions of focal dystonia and other neurologic disorders. The effects described pertaining to this toxin on muscle tissue and the body match precisely the side effects I am suffering from at this time. In the end, I want it known that I have no reason or motivation to lie about any of my experience with Dr. Mark Botwin. He breached my trust and poisoned me intentionally in his own medical examination room. I can only speculate, but his actions are apparently due to some bizarre personal grudge or dislike he had toward me. I keep running it all through my mind and wondering what could have made him this angry. This man seemingly has no regard for the Hippocratic Oath or the Optometry Oath he pledged to uphold..... nor state and federal laws governing medical providers. read more

This was my first time coming to this clinic. I was very impressed. The clinic is upstairs and a very nice optical boutique is on the bottom floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Botwin went out of his way to help me with my eyes. The technology in this clinic is amazing. Very high tech instruments that Dr. Botwin explained get much more accurate results than older style equipment. He is very patient and took his time with my semi-complicated vision correction. The downtown location is convenient and very modern. I came because I was having an unusual vision problem, thinking I had an eye infection. Dr. Micayla was one of the best eye doctors I've ever experienced; extremely careful and thorough. She found that I had a stye in my eye, but the real cause of my problem was an eyelash gone rogue. She got that out of my eye without my even noticing what she did. And voila - my eye went back to normal. And they took my insurance! I was very impressed. read more
