Called to try and get an emergency walk in today, the lady asked for my insurance and I begun telling her the number, she then tells me that I have Medicaid and when I told her no it's a private insurance she tells me that I won't be able to go in to them because my insurance might cover in-network only, just checked my insurance and it shows full coverage on both in and out of network. I went to Plaza Dentistry during a a visit for Thanksgiving with my family. I am from California. Dr. E and his staff are so welcoming and polite. The office is beautiful and very clean. Dr. E was very thorough and I really appreciate the way he spoke to me to make sure I understood the services he suggested. Because I have very bad dental anxiety I was so nervous. I had a cleaning and he replaced a filling that had previously fallen out. I have never felt so comfortable at the dentist. I even brought my daughter for a cleaning and she loved it as well. Sleazy practices! I asked if they took my insurance when booking my first appointment and they said yes. However, when I arrived, they told me I had to pay because they aren't in network with my insurance. They also wanted to do a full mouth xray at the first visit. This is only covered by insurance once every five years and is supposed be for serious issues. I have never had another dentist use it except when trying to determine if I needed surgery for an impacted tooth. That should not be a required xray! You will be charged a lot of money if you have already had another one within five years and your insurance denied coverage. Worst thing is that I stopped looking for another dentist two weeks ago and now it might be a few weeks before I can be seen somewhere else. I'm not paying for services that would be free somewhere else and neither should you. Answer questions properly when people call and don't trick them into expensive, unnecessary, unvcovered X-rays! read more

I have a mixed review. This office and dentist seemed decent but largely seemed motivated by money. They gave the same recommendations as the last dentist but quoted more than $200 more out of pocket than the other dentist not sure how most people afford dental prices but I for one can't. Also pretty much walking around with a hole in my tooth where the filling fell out and I have no doubt they could have done something temporary for me and the issue. I was referred by my neighbors and so I took their advice in scheduling my first appt with a new dentist here in Santa Fe. Overall, the experience was good, but I was very disappointed with the surprise bill at the end. My insurance covers dental cleanings so I wasn't expecting a bill but was told I owed $31 for varnish that was applied to my teeth at the end of the cleaning. Apparently this was recommended by Dr. E to the hygienist. I wasn't asked if I wanted the varnish nor was I told there would be a fee for it. I've never had varnish applied in my life and would expect there to be an explanation of any recommendations and procedures, especially as a brand new patient. It just rubbed me the wrong way as I would expect a dental office to be upfront about costs, especially with all that's going on with Covid and recently being hit with a salary reduction at my work. Right now I can only rate a 2 given this experience, otherwise it would likely be 4-5 stars. **UPDATE**Dr E called me right away after this misunderstanding and they sent out reimbursement to me. This shows GREAT customer service and care and I appreciated it. As we all know, customer service is completely lacking in many businesses these days.
