Horrible experience. I had scheduled a cleaning and they started out be taking x-rays even though I had x-rays taken six months before and told them where they could obtain them. They told me in order to get a cleaning I had to have x-rays. The assistant who took the x-rays and other photos was perfunctory in her duties and didn't respond when I told her what she was doing was uncomfortable. Dr. Cera came in a gave me a quick exam and then I was told I had to go back out to reception to wait for a hygienist. My wait started at 35 minutes past my appointment time. I waited another 15 minutes and told them I had to leave for another appointment. So I went in for a cleaning and never got a cleaning. Worst of the worst. read more

Dr Cera is an excellent dentist. In the four years I've lived here I've had fairly extensive work done. Plus the best Endodontist in the state highly recommended him. He's friendly enough, but yes, is mostly all business and that's fine with me. Good front desk, efficient and also all business. I have a great hygienist right now, they do come and go which I think is fairly common in dental practices. It would be nice if my current one would stay a while, but only she controls that. I wouldn't call this clinic inexpensive by any stretch, but you usually you get what you pay for everywhere. Btw, the dental assistants are very friendly and conciencious and have all been there as long as I've been a patient. They make a big difference, they're the ones that provide the good vibes! My only quibble, being an old school guy is having to prepay (often weeks before the work is completed in the case of a new crown) when I think half down half on completion would be more fair to the patient, especially long-term ones without insurance. Also for those like me paying cash, an occasional discount on high cost work would be a nice touch. read more

It would take a village to describe my experience at Dr. Cera's dental practice, so I will sum it up politely. He loves to go fishing, and I had to struggle to get off his hook. Definitely something fishy about the way things are done at Northside Dental. Dr. Cera's dental hygienist/assistant, Hailey, seemed caring and proficient the first few times we met but I discovered that she is an excellent "shape shifter." Dr. Cera's website touts his volunteer work in the community but that pond of compassion does not flow past the entrance to his dental practice. If you are in need of a general dentist and one to steer you through a complex plan of treatment involving oral surgery and dental implants, this door is closed, and the sign says, "GONE FISHING." read more

Totally inept.. During my first visit I was given a hard sell to spend thousand of dollars on braces. Had I not been in my 40's and this being the first time in countless visit to dentist for over 3 decades, I might have given it consideration. The dentist seemed pleasant enough, so I let it go and decided to schedule a follow-up cleaning 6 months down the road. When the appointment time was approaching, I was very sick and left a message on a Thursday evening to cancel an appointment for the coming Monday. I received a bill for the missed appointment. At this point I should have been done with these guys but shame on me, I later re-scheduled the appointment. I show up on the new appointed time, only to be informed that my appointment was canceled due to neglecting to confirm the appointment. To my surprise I asked how this could be as I received no calls, emails etc. The girl at the desk was completly dismissive and said she made the calls herself. In her haste to prove me wrong it was learned that she called a wrong number. No apology or any sense of blame and simply said I could reschedule. She said it was "policy" that if the appointment is not confirmed, it gets cancelled. The irony here is that my previous appointment was not only NOT confirmed (I actually left a message that I was not coming) they still sent me bill for the "no-show". There are plenty of dentist in Santa Fe. I would suggest you find one that that actually has some genuine care for the patients and a front office with some signs of life. read more

Pros: dental exam identified some work that needed to be done, that another dentist had missed. The staff showed me the x-rays, to confirm this. Cons: there was no follow-up to the cleaning I got, though I'd been told they would re-examine the area during another appointment a couple of weeks later. The filling that was put in feels very rough, amateurish, not smooth, like my past work. I wonder if a lower-quality material was used. Application of anesthetic was very painful, left inside of lip bruised & feeling injured for a week or more. This, for very superficial fillings that probably didn't require an anesthetic. I've never had such rough handling for the anesthetic from other DD's. Another reviewer says Dr. Cera doesn't use anesthetic when it's not necessary, but this clearly isn't true. In sum: I have mixed feelings about this dentist. The staff seems quite good, though. read more

I don't mind if someone fails to perform as promised, but to glue in a Maryland bridge twice, one week apart, failing both times within a week, states that that procedure was not in this office's repertoire. When I ask for refund for the second failed attempt, I was denied. More insulting was that I had recommended my partner for work there which presented them with about $2K of work. In my profession, if I failed to perform that badly, I would have the moral integrity to not charge the client, and while we are talking $116.00 plus tax, their loss would be negligible to protect their reputation. Northside was sold maybe a year and a half ago and the new owner Brandon Cera has some things to learn about patient relationships and authority. If you are looking for an authoritarian dentist, he is your man. If you are looking for a dentist who collaborates with you- look elsewhere. First of all, there was no indication anywhere of what his first name is. I had to ask. He hides behind his 'Dr. Cera' persona. To his credit, the minor work I had done (a filling) was very good. Light touch, thorough and prefers not to use numbing meds if at all possible. I loved that. However, there is a potential problem down the road that could very well result in my losing a tooth. His first words were "you're looking at an implant" There was no collaboration. No discussion of what my options were. No discussion of pros and cons. No alternatives to consider. Simply his authoritarian decision that I will have an implant. This is not how a patient can make an informed choice and offer informed consent. I let him know I wasn't going to have an implant and he became softly argumentative. He also made a mistake, when examining my mouth. I corrected him and he wouldn't back down! He insisted that his assistant mark down an incorrect observation. I know my mouth and what has and hasn't been done! Add to his insistence on implants, his office repeated phone calls to have me schedule my next cleaning leaves me thinking that this practice is based on the bottom line- no matter how good his work might be. read more

I had an abscess on the weekend and no current dentist in town. I called leaving a message and received a return call Monday morning. Dr Royal and staff took care of me that afternoon. The injection in the upper soft palate was the least painful of any I have experienced. The work was efficient but not rushed. Rather than requiring New crash they obtained them from my former dentist who had moved from Santa Fe. The work was not cheap but it was much more reasonably priced than work by other local dentists. All staff members were warm and gracious. I returned ten days later for peril work - all four quadrants. Minimal discomfort. Excellent work. I was in search for an affordable dentist in Santa Fe (haha) and through my search online and through Facebook recommendations, I found Dr Brandon Cera at Northside Dental. I needed a crown put back on so was able to get an appointment first thing the next morning. I did also schedule in a cleaning. I was very impressed with the staff and their transparency with the cost of everything. I never felt pressured to choose expensive procedures like I have felt at other dental offices. In all my years of going to the dentist, this was one of the better overall experiences. The staff was friendly and Dr Cera had a calming effect that made my less than fun procedure tolerable. Even though my procedure was different then originally expected, I did not have to have a different appointment and I was able to get approved for interest free credit to pay the bill. read more

Friendly while there, after tooth extraction and excruciating pain from dry socket going On 7 days now I am told bssically deal with it. I have taken ibuprofen and Tylenol way beyond the daily recommendation and the Only thing that has given temporary relief is Clove bud. Aful woman that works in their main office...don't know her name but she is heavy set and has a poor disposition and a heart of ice. I wish I had great things to say but after they got my $173 I am on my own with this extreme discomfort. read more

I moved to Santa Fe three years ago, and since then I've been to two other dentists that just didn't feel right. A month ago I had a filling break and was really stressed out that it would be a huge painful ordeal to have fixed. I called Northside Dental on a whim. They got me in fast, took excellent care of my tooth, were very kind and friendly, and I experienced hardly any pain! This is by far the best dental office I've ever been too. I hadn't been to the dentist in 6 years, as a result of poverty and fear. I was forced to go when the situation in my mouth that I had ignored became critical. I was recommended Northside by a friend, and off I went. Turns out I was in bad shape. However the entire team not only fixed my problem, but did so in such a manner I'm actually really looking forward to my next cleaning. I've never had a better experience in my life. Throughout childhood my experiences made me want to avoid the dentist, and my financial situation guaranteed I did once I was in charge of my own upkeep. Now that I know what the dentist can be like, I wish I had known about Northside earlier. The staff is friendly and works as a cohesive unit to give very personalized and diligent care to each patient. My Houston dentist FedEx a replacement crown and was able to get an appt the next day. They had to remold another temp crown and weren't satisfied until it was perfect. Completely unaccommodating "front" operating as a "low cost" practice. The staff is obnoxious and condescending and does not actually care about the patient. There are literally 4-6 people behind the desk at any given time gossiping and ILLEGALLY discussing patient information instead of helping someone at the counter. The extraction done was unprofessional as it chipped an adjoining tooth and they even left a shard of tooth in the extraction site for us to agonizingly pull free later at home. After the extraction I had to ASK for extra gauze in case the site bled. The dental assistant, who claimed to have nearly 30 years of experience, cut open my girlfriend's mouth repeatedly despite telling this "professional" that they should try a new approach. Completely incompetent. If you're looking to get poor service at the same price everyone else charges while being reminded that, "they're a business" and apparently not a group of medical professionals. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to sit around for an hour while they catch up on gossip. Notice that the other reviews are from YEARS ago. Times change! read more

I have extreme dental anxiety and had been putting off going to a dentist for nearly three years when a broken molar brought me to Dr Roybal. Doctor and staff were all wonderful, kind, gentle, and didn't try to push anything that I was not comfortable with. I needed a lot of work, and the doctor said he could do it all in one day...I was VERY nervous about having all four quadrants worked on simultaneously, and they said it is fine, we will only do as much as you are comfortable with. They made it so easy I went ahead and got all the work done (prepped and fitted for a new crown, fixed another crown that never fit right since the day I got it, and replaced my old silver leaky fillings in I don't even know how many teeth. When the Novocain wore off I felt NO PAIN! I was amazed and kept waiting for the pain or sensitivity to appear, but it has been two months and I feel great! On top of that, my teeth look better than they have since I was a teenager! I didn't have any whitening done, but because he took out so much of the silver amalgam, it looks like I had cosmetic work done...I can smile without trying to hide my teeth for the first time in twenty years:) I would recommend Dr Roybal to anyone. read more
