Botica has only been around since the beginning of 2021, but they are already making a splash in the Atlanta restaurant scene with their Spanish/Latin inspired foods, delish cocktails and stellar service! Botica comes to us from the mind of Chef Mimmo, who is well known in the Atlanta restaurant circuit. He is former owner of Red Pepper Taqueria and I know that if you truly love your tacos and live in Atlanta, you have had one or 17 tacos from RPT!
Botica sits in the space that used to house Watershed, directly on Peachtree. They did a great job repurposing the space! When you walk through the large wooden doors you are immediately greeted by the beautiful and well stocked bar that sits center of the room. The bar is outfitted with backlit shelves of spirits, a few frozen cocktail machines and a couple of TV's. This main room also features booths and tables and a massive wall of TV's! The next room over is more of a formal dining room, but still carries the theme and even the TV's throughout. Finally the other space is the outdoor patio that lines Peachtree! It is covered and spacious - I cannot wait to enjoy a cool Atlanta evening out there in the spring or fall!
The menu is not massive, they have plenty of options, but it is not overwhelming and I can dig it as they clearly have perfected the items that are on the menu as I would rather have 10 dishes perfectly executed than 100 mediocre items. The main menu features appetizers such as the classics we know and love...nachos, guacamole, tamales and queso, but also offers a few items that are clearly Spanish in influence such as carpaccio, mussels, oysters, octopus and even tuna crudo. In addition the appetizers the menu showcases their selection of tacos, soups/salads, sides, desserts and plates such as enchiladas, burgers, fajitas, etc...Something else they offer is the the Chef and Owners signature "Chico Sauce", which is a hot sauce that comes in a few varieties such as ghost pepper, scorpion pepper or habanero pepper. I did not try on this visit, but I can see how that would accompany some of their tacos quite nicely!
Food wise, our table got the carpaccio and queso. Queso was solid, I wish we would have added the chorizo, but live and learn! The carpaccio was next level! The wagyu was absolute perfection and the truffle oil and capers were a welcome addition to the wagyu that topped the crispy and thick toast that accompanied the dish. After our apps, we ordered actual meals and I just ordered a few tacos a la carte. All tacos are priced $4.50, which given the options and the tacos themselves is a great deal! As with many places, you can get with flour or corn. I went with flour for all mine, no regrets. I ordered the Crispy Fish, Lamb Birria and Beef Barbacoa. Honestly, I was expecting to have a difficult choice on what was my favorite, but even though they were all delish, the beef barbacoa put everything else to shame! The beef was juicy, tender and seasoned perfectly and then you toss the pickled onions and salsa on top and BAM, taco perfection!
For drinks we all got Ranch Water, which is super simple and super tasty. It is simply tequila, seltzer water and lime juice over ice. If this isn't your thing they have a healthy offering of adult beverages including wines, margaritas, cocktails, beers and even cocktails to go! And of course they have a hefty list of tequilas!
Brunch is a thing here as well, and while I have not experienced it just yet, they do offer it on the weekends from 10a - 4p. The brunch menu is limited and only features about 10 items from your standard breakfast plate to chilaquiles and even benedicts, plus a few dessert options. With that being said and knowing I am a lover of all things chilaquiles, I am pretty sure it won't be long before I swing in here on the weekend!
Parking is no issue here as since they sit at the base of a residential building, they have plenty of parking in the attached parking deck. Just make sure to register your vehicle upon entry with the staff, as if you do not they could ticket you if they are not aware the reason for your visit!
Service was phenomenal. We started our night at the bar and then moved down to a table once we got the food. At the bar and at the table, Mina (sp?) helped us out and his energy was infectious! You can tell folks come to this spot for this dude as he knew everyone that walked in and out of those doors!
They do take reservations, so I would suggest doing that on those busy nights or weekends. You can do it through OpenTable or their website.
Overall, my first trip to Botica will certainly not be my last. The experience as a whole was great. I am excited to see what the future looks like for them and can't wait to swing back through for my next visit...and the one after that, and after that too! read more
