I would give them zero stars if I could. I almost ended up not purchasing a very good condition used car because of them. A place that calls itself "Toyota specialists" could not figure out how to remove the back seats in a Sienna. I had taken that car for a pre purchase inspection to these guys as they were close to the dealer. They said seat back seems jammed and may be a costly repair. They also said a few other things were potentially not in good shape. They never bothered to pull up the car's records to see that all major service had been done on the car. I took back the car to the dealer and they were able to remove the seat in less than 60 seconds. The dealer also gave me a 30 day guarantee, so I went with my judgement and purchased the car. Next day I took it to my usual mechanic and the car checked out perfectly fine. I usually go to places with 4 star reviews or more and that is how I chose to go to Bothell Toyota "Specialists". I was very disappointed by this place and certainly would not trust my Toyota to these guys ever! read more

Furthermore, whenever I compared their prices to another location, this guys are always the cheapest and service is at great quality. For example, went to Midas to get an estimate for break repair costs, then went here. Gem! It's so hard to find an automotive place you can trust. I just moved to the area. I called several places (Kenmore Automotive, Northshore Garage, Lake City Auto Works and more). I either received no answer, couldn't get in for a week, or the oil change is pricey. The staff also didn't know about my car. I called BTS and they got me in same day. They also corrected me when I asked for the wrong service - Gentleman explained the manufacturer recommendation so I can make an informed decision. When I got in, the staff were extremely friendly, and got me out in 20 mins even with several customers ahead of me. They didn't try to upsell me when I asked them if I should perform "additional services", which Toyota Service does every time. I've found Toyota Service in Renton and Bellevue to be dishonest and misleading. They also have the best pricing. It's located in a plaza with lots of parking and places to run errands or shop while you wait. Way to go BTS!!! read more

I've been meaning to write this review for quite a while now. With my most recent experience with Hing and his amazing crew, I find I can't put it off any longer. A while back, I got a 'reminder' from the Kirkland police that I needed a front license plate, but when I went to put it on I discovered the bolts were either rusted in place or were stripped out beyond my ability to loosen them. I figured I'd go to Thrasher's Auto, since Frank had always treated me well and it's conveniently located across the street from where I live. When I got there I realized the shop had become Bothell Toyota Specialists. I figured they'd probably help me even though I'm driving a Nissan, and I was right. They were happy to drill a couple of holes in my bumper and attach my plate and they even checked out and reset my engine warning light since there was apparently a no-fault code. The fee for the work and time? A promise that I'd come in sometime for an oil change. I came back a couple months later when the engine warning light came on again, and again there was no fault and they reset it. Again, they didn't even charge me a diagnostic fee. The next time I came in, my brake light wouldn't go out even after adding fluid. Turns out the rear brakes were in very bad shape and I also had a front axle that needed work. This time they did charge me for a diagnostic, finally! Hing gave me a quote and I went on my way until I was able to afford the repairs. When I did have the work done, they were very accommodating about getting me in and completed the work pretty close to the time they said it would be done (they went over by an hour or so). Considering all they'd done in the past for me, this was a small inconvenience. Which brings me to my most recent experience. On Sunday, my wiper linkage broke. I made an appointment on-line and brought the car over early Monday morning. They took a look and confirmed the problem was the linkage. At first Hing told me they wouldn't have a part until the next day, then said he'd be able to get one in a couple hours. I agreed and went home to wait for their call, which came almost exactly when they said they'd be done. I picked up my car and only missed a half day of work. When I picked up the car, Hing told me they found that there was a rivet that was cracked on the passenger side of the wiper assembly and they'd ordered that part for me. He said that when it came in they'd install it at no charge. And they did. And then, inexplicably, the wipers stopped working on my way to work. Back I went and they took it in immediately to check it out. While I waited, Hing offered, no - insisted - that I take $5 and go over to Starbucks for a coffee, since I had to wait. He even said he'd buy me another if I had to wait extra. By the time I got back the car was just about ready. TL;DR: These guys are awesome. They really understand how to take care of customers and bring in new business. I would recommend them to anyone who needs work done on their car or truck. read more

Work that needed to be done: Brakes pad, Rotors Front wheels, AC refresh, Oil change, air filter, cabin filter, battery on the following vehicles: Camry LE, Honda EX Sedan. How did it go? Hing, Yi and their technicians did a great job for our 2004 Honda Civic EX Sedan & 2004 Toyota Camry LE. 1.) 2004 Honda Civic EX (Repair): -Replaced front rotors and disc brakes (Akebono) with new ones. -Did the A/C refresh. -Repaired the driver side power windows master switch. Passenger side works intermittently. Hing advised not to waste any more money on it :). -Changed the oil for free (Filter included) -Change the air filter and the cabin filter. 2.) 2004 Toyota Camry LE (Repair): -Replaced front rotors and disc brakes (Akebono) with new ones. -Change the air filter and the cabin filter. -Topped off all the fluids including coolant. Overall they did a great job with fair price when compared to the Toyota dealer and quite accommodating in their busy schedule. They did complete the job the same day. Expensive, subpar quality, and dishonest or incompetent after year of observation and thousands spent. I REALLY wanted to give a local mechanic a chance over a dealership. So, I took all of my car issues to them and it seems they were cheaper than the dealership over the last few years. I use them for brakes, alternator, headlight replacement, and other issues. One issue I had was a noise coming from my engine. They fixed it for about $1000. It was pricey but figured better than the dealer. Then the noise never went away but was quite enough but with less than 3k miles, the noise came back louder. Then I had to get the alternator fixed. All together for this noise, it cost around $1600. I suspected something was off so I called the dealer and found that that the original fix which was a belt and tensioner was overcharged. They had replaced parts that did usually did not break. To be fair the alternator replacement cost was a little lower but I am not sure if they used factory parts. For peace of mine, the prices difference not enough to go to the local shop. I expected at a local shop to be significantly better. Altogether, I paid more at the local shop with more trips, and lower quality. I gave them the benefit of the doubt each time over the years but they have finally lost my trust. This was the last straw. They are not your friendly, honest, local mechanic they are out to squeeze each dollar out. $1600 for a simple fix that would have been cheaper and higher quality at a dealer. I also had brakes replaced and these brakes still make noise at lower speeds - subpar quality for a critical component of a car. In addition, I paid a higher price for synthetic oil which lasts longer but they tried to replace my oil before it was due for service. The oil replacement mileage sticker at the top of your windshield is marked with the wrong miles (not synthetic oil miles) to trick you into replacing it earlier. All in all, their work is less than superior and they find ways to rip you off saying dealership is more expensive. The trick is they find ways to add additional cost creative ways and with less quality. Finally, their labor charges are over $100/hr. This is inline with whta the dealership charges. Labor at this place is always higher than parts. A more reasonable charge would be $50/hr. Otherwise, it is better to go to a dealer you can obtain quality and warranty. Still, I am not saying go to the dealer, but I think it is better to find a local mechanic that is more honest and/or find one that comes to your house to fix. read more

I typically have driven down to Bellevue to have my 2007 SUV Hybrid Highlander serviced. However, in need of a break job and servicing, I decided to have Bothell Toyota do the work as they are located only a couple of miles from my home. They have all the latest diagnostic machines, credentials and expertise for Toyota servicing..including Hybrid certified. The owner told me he worked several years at a major dealership, prior to starting his business. They did a comprehensive check on my car and completed the work within 2 hours...the work was superb..cost was comparable to other quotes I received, and service was superior to what one would expect from a large dealership. Only complaint was the waiting room..needs TV, better chairs for the waiting...not a deal breaker though. read more

This place had far more reasonable prices and are much more accommodating. I work 9 hour days and scheduling with the dealer was always 2 weeks out...but here I called and got next day service. It's also nice cause this place is located near a little shopping complex so if you're not a fan of waiting, there's stuff to shop for around. read more

Great work. I purchased a used 4Runner that had 90,000 miles on it. As a V8, these need a new timing belt every 90k-100k miles. I simply didn't have time to do the work myself, but have never taken any of my vehicles to a shop as I just don't trust them. Bothell Toyota Specialists changed that. I called and told them I was looking at purchasing a car the next day, and immediately wanted a new timing belt in it. They were more than accommodating and sure enough I took my car straight from the sale to their shop. They earned my trust, which has been non-existent for automotive shops, when they called and asked about the cam seals. I had been waiting for this call as I know it's a normal thing to change during a timing belt replacement, but I also know this particular engine makes it no easy step to do and actually involves quite a bit more work than usual. They told me essentially the same thing and I had them hold off. No pressure, no problems. Had my car back the next day, new timing belt sticker with mileage recorded and all. They took care of all I expected them to (thermostat, water pump, serpentine belt, etc., with my permission) and even gave the car a once over for me (I asked them to, since it was a new vehicle) and gave me a list of things they noticed, but did not pressure me to have additional work done. All this was done for about $50 less than any other shop or Toyota dealer quoted me. Bottom line, as a person who doesn't like taking my cars to shops and believes they take advantage of people, I would take my vehicles here in confidence. I never had to let them know what I knew to avoid gouging or ridiculous diagnoses, and their customer service, technical expertise, pricing, general attitude, and lack of pressuring were the best I've seen. For the first time, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND an auto shop, Bothell Toyota Specialists, to everyone. Thank you. read more

Horrible place! I suggested that my car had an alternator problem, and after tests they swore up and down it was the fuel pump! I argued but somehow they convinced me that it had to be fixed (for 800 dollars). One month later car breaks down for the same reason. It was the alternator. I've had traditionally so-so luck with automotive repairs, dealers and independents both leaving me with a feeling of un-ease about what was actually repaired/serviced and whether I paid too much. I had a pretty good idea of the scope of the repair before going in. The BTS Owner, Yi Wu, was refreshingly straight forward, transparent, and didn't try to oversell any extra services. The repair was done within hours on a Saturday, a clean and professional service. Called to get a quote for work on a new car I purchased, a simple job, I was quoted and called back the next day to schedule to work and was told they do not work on European cars. Been going there for over a year now, for all work (oil changes, tune-ups, repairs) except tires. The service is outstanding, the price is right, and the workmanship is excellent. They inspected the car for me when I was concerned about a long trip and found something that a previous repair shop hadn't mentioned. Instead of saying they had to repair it, they said it was minor and I should just keep an eye on it and ask for it to be re-checked every 6 months or so. Also, a previous shop had not been able to fix a clanking noise in the engine (!). This shop found and fixed the valve that was causing the problem. The work is comparable to a dealer's except they don't charge as much. They are honest, friendly, and do great work. I just can't say enough good things. read more

The owner will gouge prices and perform services that won't fix your car. They will give personal opinions rather than a give appropriate diagnostics and gladly take your money for whatever work they decide to do on your car, even if it doesn't solve what the true matter is with your vehicle, because they are incapable of appropriate diagnostics. read more

Took my Toyota there because they are close to my home and because they are "specialist". Spent $1100 getting brake work done front and back and some bearings rebuilt. It should have been as red flag when the test drive after the work took 25 minutes and the guy doing the test drive told me that I had to brake easy for the first 50 stops. But I took the car. Immediately after we went downtown Seattle. There was a lot of traffic on the way and had to keep my foot on the brake a good part of the way. After keeping slight pressure on the brake the feeling I lost power brakes happened consistently. I could still get the car to stop but significantly harder than before the work was done. As ewe parked the car the attendant pointed out my front headlight was out, it had worked fine the night before. So after the work was completed and after $1100 dollars my car is in worse condition than before I had it worked on. If it was just one thing that wasn't working I wouldn't write this but when there are multiple new issues and the repair facility was lobbing me to do more work, and lastly I don't believe in coincidences I would say don't go here. Take your Toyota to Toyota. I don't feel these guys were "Specialist". read more

Took my car here for an oil change. They did not replace oil filter and did not replace o-rings. Metal on metal jammed back together and striped the bolts. Geez! They also rotated my tires for a fee, then when I called them back to tell them I needed the tires rebalanced, they said they don't do tire work! Really! Then you shouldn't have rotated the tires at all. This place might be good for other repairs, but I will never know because I will never go back! Next time going to the dealership! read more
