"There's one thing I'm certain of Return, I will, to old Brazil" (Frank Sinatra) I've been to a few Brazilian steakhouses over the years, but I'm not really sure I've ever been to a full-blown real deal Brazilian restaurant before we had lunch at Boteco do Manolo yesterday. I say "real deal Brazilian" because the restaurant chain has 12 locations in Brazil, concentrated in Rio de Janeiro shopping centers. The Framingham location is one of the seven located in the U.S. Our server was a young man from Brazil, and since it was our first visit, he spent a lot of time going through their large menu. The restaurant serves family style portions (which are quite large), regular sized portions, appetizers, meat/chicken/seafood entrees, pasta and rice dishes, and a lunch menu. We both went to the lunch menu and ordered a special at $19.90 each. I went with the Peixe Grelhado (Grilled Mahi-Mahi Filet in a caper-butter sauce) served with a mountain of mixed vegetables, white rice and black beans. Seriously, that was a lot of food and much too much for a lunch, so half of it sits in my refrigerator as we speak. There were bottles of olive oil, olive oil with hot peppers, and Tabasco on the table, plus packets of mayonnaise. Those hot peppers nestled in the oil caught my eye, so I cautiously sprinkled some on my plate, and I was glad I was so cautious because it was damned hot (but yummy). My wife ordered the Frango Com Salada (Grilled Chicken Breast with salad) served with white rice, pico de gallo, and black beans. After we ordered, Alex came back to our table and said the lettuce intended for the salad didn't pass his inspection, so he offered us a different side order. We ordered French Fries instead. My fish and my wife's chicken were excellent. They were good-sized portions that were well seasoned and well cooked. My rice and beans were very good and that big pile of vegetables really went well with that volcanic pepper oil. Club soda was a very reasonable $2, so our big lunch ran $42 before tip with plenty of leftovers. If you're ever in the mood to enjoy, or try Brazilian food, travel to Framingham if you can't make it to Rio de Janeiro! read more

Is this a boteco, a small casual bar with petiscos? No. But it's the best Brazilian restaurant in Framingham with excellent petiscos on the menu as well as a huge selection of larger plates. The steak, featuring picanha, of course, is delicious; however, this is not a churrascaria, so don't expect to be visited tableside by mountains of meat. We ordered primarily the petiscos and they were just like what you would get at those city bars. This atmosphere is more of a huge flashy restaurant with attentive service and gringos in the minority. Still, it can get crowded and noisy. Don't miss the frango a passarinho (fried chicken crispy yet NOT breaded), and the many combos including picanha, sausage, etc. Add the yuca fries and savor the side of fluffy farofa. Great Brazilian food served family-style. Lot's of choices, good drinks, and great service.

A very large restaurant located at the interchange of route 9 and 90. The menu is very large and I recommend you let your server make suggestions. The prices caused us sticker shock at first until it was explained that they fed two or four people. From what we saw at other tables, was that it was a great sharing event. We settled with the Parmesan risotto and the fettuccini bolognese. The risotto was one of the best I've ever had and the bolognese was full of meat and a good sauce. Tops marks for this Brazilian causal-dinning restaurant. The steaks we tried (the much loved picanha) were delicious and they are offered in several different preparations. Many of the entrees are served family-style, meaning you get a generous sized main for the table with a couple of sides rolled into the price, sufficient to make a very satisfying meal. The overall cost of the meal is as a result reasonable. The menu is a bit difficult to navigate as the English translation is a cumbersome, but the waiters were knowledgeable and explained everything well. The menu is also extensive but stick with the beef entrees (called top sirloin on the menu) if you're new to Boteco and feel like steak. There is a full bar and live music and on one side of the restaurant and table seating with huge TVs (to watch soccer, of course) on the other side. read more

I don't know if these 5 stars reviews are for their drinks and services or something because their food is overpriced trash. I got take out of the picanha combo and it tasted like chewy liver and onions. The meat quality is so bad! They have to cover the meat with onions and garlic to mask the bad taste! The yucca flour didn't help cover the bad beef. I was expecting something good for that price, especially because picanha is supposed to be a good cut of beef. Empanada was bland. Buenos Aires cafe has the best ones. Polenta fries were good but the cheese wasn't even melted on top. I usually don't write bad reviews but I'm sorry, I was very disappointed considering the expensive price. read more

The service here was stellar! Our waiter Luis gave us such great recommendations on the menu. It's Family style but you can choose from smaller portions or larger ones. Chicken wings with the garlic parm sauce on the side was amazing. Wish the polenta fries were available, but the loaded reg fries were good. The chocolate truffles were perfect end to the meal. If back in area will definitely be back & try more of the dishes because they looked amazing. The only slight issue was the sound really carries & it was a little loud. read more

So this is a new place that recently opened up and I thought I would give it a try. the food was good and the place was very busy; but for some reason this area seems to have very high "Price-points" for there food. it ranged from $25 and up for most of the items. I would recommend this place for a family get together, but make sure you bring a lot of money, because it will cost you. read more

Botolo do Manolo opened in Framingham last Thursday (3/14/2024) in the former China Gourmet building along Route 9 WB at the Mass Pike entrance. This Brazilian restaurant and bar has locations in Brazil and in Florida offering family style dining (dishes to share), combo dinners, and individual meals (before 5 pm). The place was redone with dining rooms to the left and right and the bar area to the left. The place is very loud with music and echoing throughout. I decided to stop by for dinner very recently over the weekend. The place has been very busy and some items were not available including their standard desserts and no alcohol yet (Town permit still needs to be issued). They have menus in Portuguese and in English. Most of the staff and customers (costumers) including large Brazilian families spoke fluent Portuguese. However, as I was arriving, there was a language barrier with the hostess trying to be seated for dinner. I could barely understand what they were saying. Eventually, I was seated to the spacious dining room to the right near the kitchen and given menus. The server, who spoke good English, arrived to go over the menu and to check if they were doing combo dinners and explain that no alcohol was offered yet and they had plenty of non-alcoholic beverage selections. I got an ice water. For a starter, the Fried Shrimp Brazilian Empanadas (3 for $10.50 plus tax) were served very hot with a firm pastry shell filled with tender shrimp (cleaned) and a cream Catupiry cheese, ketchup and hot pepper sauce provided, a very good starter. For dinner, the Top Sirloin Bites Combo with Onions & Garlic ($45.90 plus tax) was a generous portion of food plated on a rectangular dish with sirloin steak strips with marinated onions, garlic & spices, crisp golden fries, and farofa of yucca flour & eggs. The fries and farofa were pretty decent, but the medium rare steak was very chewy and I had to trim off lots of fat. I ended up getting a to go box for much of the food and I will repurpose the cut steak pieces for sandwiches. I skipped dessert since they ran out. The check was $71.63 with tax and automatic added 20 percent gratuity (informed ahead of time by server), additional gratuity optional. There is a QR code on the check which you can scan and pay online through Toast. Overall, the empanadas were very good, but the steak was not the greatest I've ever had. The service here was remarkably quick as I got my appetizer within 5 minutes of ordering and the entrée within 10 minutes of ordering. After the newness period and the kinks hopefully get fixed, I would come back in the future with another person or group since the food served here is meant to be shared around the table. read more

Heard of this place through our Brazilian friends and it did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, providing a nut safe meal for a member of our party. Had the bolineo de bacalao (deep fried cod croquettes) and bolineo de carne seca (dried salted beef croquettes) as a generous appetizer. As everything there is family style the garlic steak came with 'crazy' rice (rice with bacon), cassava flour and eggs, and cassava fries, all of which delicious and explain the price as it more than feeds everyone. The winners here were the frozen fruit drinks (we tried strawberry and mango) and the dessert. The nutella flan was wonderful. Sadly the dinner itself was only meh. We had the filet with parmesan creamy rice and taro fries. The filet sauce was salty and otherwise bland and the layer of cheese was thicker than the steak making it far too heavy. The rice was neither creamy nor had parmesan in it. The taro were ok. The topper was the 20% gratuity added to the check automatically. I understand for large parties but there were only 2 of us. I'm usually a great tipper, but if you add 20% automatically you aren't getting more. We likely won't be back any time soon. read more

We visited for an early dinner and was overwhelmed with the extensive menu. Thankfully our waiter was very patient and explained everything to us. Most of the items are served family style and can feed 3-4. That is why most of the menu prices start at $50. The suggested empanada apps were fantastic and the mixed BBQ grill allowed us to try pork, steak and chicken different ways. Stopped by for a late Monday lunch on the way back from a medical appointment in Boston. We ordered the #182Steak with cheese and mild sweet onions, came with a side of mushroom rice and cheese and a dish of perfect Fall goodness. & Fries... No waiting. Excellent service from Bianca. Read into the place a bit before happening to drop by. It is a family style entree service, so don't get sticker shock just looking at the menu for the first time. A $53 dollar "Half" family entree comes with meat and sides enough to feed 2-4 depending upon the appetites. My wife and I brought home one meal leftover from a $53 steak entree. It was a great medium rare sirloin, with sides of beans, fries, rice, Pico, and another common dish, I just don't remember the name. But plenty of food. Tried the short rib empanadas as well, they were good. All of it was worth having, nothing mind blowing, but very solid and tasty. Had the orange and cashew caprihina, was good. They had a singer that night, so there was a $10 cover on the bill (would have been nice to know that up front, but didn't argue it. Haven't heard a live singer in a while, so considered it part of the night, and appreciated something different. We decided we'd probably go back again, maybe bring the kids for fun. How can a restaurant have the audacity to include a 20% gratuity (on top of taxes) on a to-go order? My wife ordered bacalhau to go for $66.90, an outrageous price for fish, but acceptable as that is their price. However, imposing a 20% tip is unreasonable. Gratuity should be at the customer's discretion. We will never return to this poorly managed establishment. read more

The appetizers were excellent. For a first visit we opted for a Shrimp dish. (All the meals are shared so when you order it's for 2 or 4 persons). The Shrimp BoBo was recommended and was tasteless. Since Brazil is known for beef restaurants so that's what we will try IF we go back. read more

The restaurant has too many tables. It's very bright and noisy. Basically, there is no atmosphere. Service goes from over explaining the 20-page menu to disappearing when you want something. There's some training, I think, needed. The food? Steak was tasty. The cod was very boney therefore, impossible to enjoy. Presentation is family style. But frankly, the tables aren't big enough for family style. So you have a bowl of black beans, a serving dish filled with some sort of egg concoction, a heap of french fries and a bowl of white rice--plus water glasses, plates, wine glasses--crowding out the entree. It looks chaotic and it's hard to serve. Maybe they should work on plating the food. It might make a difference. I don't mean to be harsh. I think a lot of it could be because the restaurant is new. There are other locations...I think in Florida and elsewhere. So it's not an unproven concept. (In other words, other people like it.) I did feel it was a bit expensive, but then all restaurants are expensive these days. If you decide to go, don't order too much. A small portion of steak to share. Maybe an appetizer.
