I'm writing about their "new" operation in Waltham, the former DEMO'S. The take out "service" was absolutely the WORST that I have experienced at a local restaurant of this type. The head cashier is extremely polite but totally clueless when it came to expediting my order or "any" order for that matter! I had ordered a simple "meatloaf" dinner with rice and salad. Everything is pre-made and just has to be put together. I sat waiting for over twenty-five minutes. In the meantime there was a steady stream of men entering the kitchen and engaging in multiple conversations (all in Spanish) with the cooks and prep-staff! I will NEVER return to this facility (I can't call it a restaurant). Crappy service, indolent staff and below average food! read more

A mediterranean joint that from the outside doesn't differentiate itself from those of the surrounding area but once inside, there's a soup bar, an UNREAL mezze bar, and their combos are so good (SO MANY SIDES!). The food is good. Chicken Kababs were moist and flavorful. The baked pita and complimentary humus is a step up from Demos. Turkish and regular tea (coffee too I think) is complimentary. The dining area is the same as it was when it was demos and has a family atmosphere with plenty of kids about. And of course the lighting matches ambiance. So it's not fine dining or date night material but great food and easy on the wallet. And chef has been on the front line and accessible to help with questions or any small issues we've had. read more

I went here for the first time today - I moved into the city for work and thought I would try something new. I was very impressed by the quality of the food, friendly staff and quick service. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I ordered the falafel plate which was a good amount of food - they did slab on a large scoop of humus but it was fine. The cucumber, onion and tomato salad was good (a little watery but you can expect that with fresh items like this). The falafel was well-cooked and was tasty. My total was under $10 which can't be beat in Boston. I will be going back here for another meal in the future and would suggest this to someone who is looking for a fast, tasty, and moderately cheap meal in the financial area. read more

This place is the bomb.com. I went here with coworkers for lunch and took advantage of the fantastic meze bar. So much to choose from and all were delicious! Especially the zucchini fritters, the spring rolls filled with feta (mmm), and the sweet potato chicken. I will say that the sandwich menu is a bit overwhelming and confusing so I haven't ventured there yet, but the meze bar was great and I had a very delicious and filling lunch. Line goes out the door during lunch. You need to be nimble and quick with your choices. It's a rapid fire game of salad toppings. Hesitate on the falafel? Don't even think about it. Not sure if you want apples in your salad today? Blood pressure goes through the roof. Snap decisions are made. But in all seriousness, people really move fast through the salad bar, so even if the line is down the stairs it's not a huge wait. Prices are super reasonable for the salad line (~$8), since you get unlimited veggies and can really pile it up. People go out all out here with the toppings. There's a separate line for kebabs and other hot foods, and also a self serve line of soups and by the pound salad if you are too hipster to stand in line with everyone else. Basement seating is cozy, and the restaurant in general is claustrophobic and probably a fire hazard with how many people I've seen stuff themselves in here. Today was the coldest day so far this year, in the 20's. And yet I braved this windy cold, snowy (ok fine flurrying) day, because my coworker goes to Bokston Kebab House (BKH for short) at least 3 times a week. We both work within 1 minute of South Statin, and this person hates the cold. With this in mind, and her eagerness to head to BKH, I decided I had to try this place out. You first walk in, the first feeling is, where the heck do i go, there is a Meze Bar (turkish salad bar with, more like a variety of appetizers than true salad which is a good thing!) And there are 2 different ordering stations. Then I looked up to the menu. Quite a selection, Turkish Kebabs, Entrees, Cold Sandwiches, Hot Sandwiches, House Salads, Seafood and Pasta, Soups and Deserts. I jumped and ordered a kofte kebab. It was really really good. I think Kofte is a spiced lamb meatball, i opted for the optional garlic yogurt sauce, and THAT was damn tasty, but at 7.75 it was a bit pricey. if it was 6.75 i would be more inclined to visit more often. My coworker went for the Meze and grabbed me a small bit of Taragon chicken and Buffalo chicken. (hey i was curious) Those were both really good. It appears they grill and dice the meats and THEN add the flavors, very nice flavors, not overpowering at all. My overall feeling, Great place, not a daily visit due to price, but it appears i will be able to order new things for a while before I have tried it all. read more

I just finished off my Chicken Kafta wrap from Boston Kebab House. It was amazingly tasty, fresh, and the Basil sauce was out of this word. I rang up at around 8 dollars, slightly more than I would expect to pay at a deli. The wrap was filling... but not quite enough to make this a regular place. I got it to go, and they threw a fork and napkin in with the wrap. Who gives a fork with wrap? Apparently, people that don't know how to wrap a wrap. I'm knocking a star off of what would have been a 4 star review (5 stars for the food, minus one for price) for the fact that the entire thing fell apart towards the end. Suddenly I have a pile of tasty... but fairly messy food and a useless piece of bread. If you have some time, and aren't worrying about money, go check this place out. It has a nice dining area downstairs, and the service is friendly. It could be quicker, it could be cheaper... and they could wrap a better wrap. read more

Very disappointed in the Waltham location. Demo's had great tasting dressing, tasty kebabs and the salad was fresh. This place had no flavor, the salad was dressed with too much unflavored dressing and the lamb was flavorless too, and there was a poor amount. I miss Demos. I won't go back. Really like this place and it's close to the office. Reasonable price as you can choose 4 items off the menu, from falafel, to chicken, to salad, to fries, etc. and it's approx. $12. They also have an a la carte buffet style section where you can choose your items and put them in a plate yourself. The line moves very fast, even during the lunch rush, which is nice if you don't have much time. There's also a large seating area in the basement to sit and eat, if you do have the time. This Turkish restaurant does never compromise quality when it comes to taste. I was their customer for their location in Boston. The same quality in their new location in Waltham. They are the best in town for varieties. If you want to experience the authentic taste with thoughtful/ delicate twists, this is the restaurant. We ordered catering for our company lunch and the staff was so friendly making the ordering and pickup easy. Often with big orders, some restaurants miss items, but not here! They even included (good quality) plates, utensils and napkins. We ordered the hot entree option which comes with 2 meats, a veggie, and 3 sides. The amount of meat was perfect for the 23 people we specified and the sides were ENORMOUS. I swear we have 2 pounds of rice and half the salad left. Overall it was great quality food. The only comment is that both the kofta kebab and hummus were pretty bland, and the falafel was kind of dry, but if you at the sauces, everything is great. I definitely recommend the tandoori chicken and the spanikopita. Also the delivery fee is ridiculous: $30 just to go to the south end. The total for our uber there and back was only $12, guess you pay for the convenience! read more

Boston Kebab House has seen some major changes in the last year- a new trendy tossed salad bar (which I haven't tried yet) and an amazing, fabulous, incredible self-serve meze bar (I could use more adjectives, but will save you from reading the long sentence). If it wouldn't render me completely broke every week I'd totes eat here every day- rockin' it Mediterranean style. It's a little slice of vegetarian heaven. I like to go between 11 and 11:30 to avoid the crowds and get my little plastic container filled with: hummus stuffed grape leaves artichoke fritters muhamarra!!!! tabbouleh shepard's salad (cucumber, tomtao, red onion, olive oil) these red lentil things yogurt w/ dill fried potato salad And there are even more options that that. The basics are there every day- but sometimes some new stuff, like today- a feta and spinach bread pastry thing. Another new addition: a "frequent boston kebab obsessive card" where your 10th meze bar purchase is free. I like free stuff. I like free stuff even better when it's freakin' good. I am never going to this place again, and you shouldn't go there, either. I've been there three times. The first time I didn't know how to order, and blamed the half-salad I got for $8 on my own bad ordering technique. I was stressed and confused - I didn't understand anybody working there, and I felt bad asking them to repeat themselves! The second time I slipped on their floor, which was wet. This place can be an amazing lunch find, if you do it right. First, find a friend (this always makes for a good lunch) who likes middle eastern food as much as you do. Walk over to the kebab house. Ignore the huge line out the door, it's just for the non-meze salad bar. Ignore the signs on the walls advertising kebabs, schawarma, and doner, if you can, and grab one salad tray. Middle eastern food is heavy, and you pay ~$7 a pound, but here's the kicker- there's a $10 price cap. This is where your friend comes in. Have him/her tag out and go downstairs to scout a table while you forage. Mmmmm, hummus. It's heavy, but you're working the system, so stack it up. Little fried dumpling things? Why not? Baba ganoush, don't forget the pita, oh look olives! Some sort of spinachy thing. Grape leaves! Pack that thing tight, put some light-looking stuff on the top in an attempt to preserve your dignity, and look surprised when the table under the scale creaks under the weight. Pay your $10, grab napkins and an extra fork for your wingman, and go have a seat downstairs to enjoy the fruits of your pillage, having thoroughly sacked the once-mighty Ottoman Empire. The only thing I had here which I didn't find palatable was the grape leaves... whoever made those things had a heavy, heavy hand with the rose water, and it tasted like I was munching on some old lady's over-perfumed shawl. There are only two reasons to go to this place: 1. You don't have a lot of time for a lunch break, and whatever it's healthy and you'll probably be full. 2. You have bad taste buds and are therefore a bad person. Every time I've been here I've been hit with wafts of average in every bite. There's nothing offensive about any of the ingredients or anything and they seem fresh enough, but whether I get a soup, a wrap, or a salad. It's not that good. You're probably wondering "Hey Edba, why would you come here so often???". A lot of the aforementioned reason 1 and sometimes indirectly (I have evil, average-loving coworkers) reason 2. The meze bar is a good value as for ~$7 you can get two meals out of it (as long as you don't mind second day baba ghanouj!) A tip though, if you're not in the mood for the salad bar, which is a build your own affair, don't be fooled by the line on the left. I can't believe I've been working here for six months without knowing about the meze bar. This ends my quest for a yummy, healthy, moderately sized lunch. Actually it can get pretty big if you're not watching out because everything is delicious looking. Do get red lentil kofte, hummus, babaganoush, white bean salad, eggplant fritters and marinated asparagus. It's $6.99/lb, or they allow you to stuff a container for $9.99, but the beautiful thing is getting to create a delightful little $4 lunch when you're not overly hungry. I was not feeling moderate today, however. I got the lamb kebab plate for $9.50. I hurried back to my office with the container heavy in hand, the heavenly scent of grilled meat wafting out. It was really awesome. There was actually not an excessive amount of meat, but the box was overstuffed with salad and two delicious kinds of rice. BKH has a cute, cheery interior and friendly servers who give out dollar off coupons for next time. I can't stop coming here. read more

I can't thank Yelper Sara S. enough for introducing me to the Boston Kebab House! As a person with not just a bunch of food allergies, but also a fear of pretty much anything considered daring or different concerning food, I would have never stopped in there on my own. Not only is everything really inexpensive (you can easily spend less than $10 for lunch and get a huuuuuge plate full of food), but you have a ton of choices as to what to eat - and your tummy will thank you later for whatever you do decide! At the meze bar, you can fill up a container to your heart's content and pay by weight. And let me tell you - the meze bar is stocked with all sorts of goodies! You don't have to worry about not being too familiar with the cuisine, because they have labels for everything and they even place certain items next to one another as a subtle suggestion that they go well together. You can also order off the menu (on a board behind the registers), and they even have deli sandwiches and pizza and things like that. I don't know if I'll ever try those, but it's certainly something to note. Make your own kebabs? Yes, please! The hot menu is superb and you can probably visit the Kebab House over two hundred times and get something different every time - that's how extensive the menu is. And if you are not hooked by the price, the vast menu, or the way you can do it all yourself, then I think the service will reel you in. Friendly people who are happy to answer your questions. 4 Stars This is a surprisingly efficient operation, but it can be confusing. I've been a fan of the salads (build your own) because it is a good deal. You have to be careful to not over do it, you could get a shock at weigh in. The meze and warm are also a great choice, again restraint is required. My go to meal is the Doner Kebab(5/5), one the best I've ever had. I mix up the plate and the sandwich. After that I like the Kofte Kebab(5/5), again prefer plate. My third choice is the Chicken Kebab, nice marinade. The Falafels(3/5) are good but in my opinion not their strong suit. Other items I like: 1. Hummus (4.5/5) 2. Babagunush (4/5) 3. Grape Leaves (4.5/5) 4. Tabboule (4/5) 5. Bulgor Pilaf (5/5) don't always get a starch at lunch but this is awesome. The downstair seating is cozy but it fills up quick, go early or late if you want to eat there. In the spring/summer/early fall; get it to go and hit the Post Office Sq "Oasis", bench or grass seating also fills up. * parking: No, No, No. You could leave your merc/bmw/audi on the street but I wouldn't. The best-value salad you'll find downtown! For about $8 you get two proteins (I recommend chicken kebab and avocado) and all the additional toppings you could ever want! And boy do they have a lot of additional toppings - you'll have more to choose from than you could ever imagine. This place is a dream and nightmare all at the same time for a girl like me whose eyes are bigger than her stomach.
