There is free parking, but parking is tight if you go during lunch time, weekends, etc. I came here because it was my 22 month old's first "real" haircut. When I say real haircut, I mean, not me trying to clean it up and butchering it. The price seems reasonable for a first haircut. I'm sure I could have gone to Supercuts or somewhere else for a cheaper cut. We went during winter break, during the week, so it was pretty much dead. As soon as I walked in, I was like oh no! This place is not only for haircuts, but it's a toy store, ugh! I knew what I was Getting into. I'll get to that part at the end. Amy, I believe was her name, did a beautiful job getting my son to relax and not stress out about his haircut. I mean she was just amazing with him. I was able to sit in a chair in front of him to help keep him chill as well. There was also a tv and he got to watch Bluey. But quite honestly, he was more interested in looking in the mirror and seeing what was going on. He moved a little at the end when she was trying to clean up the back and sides, so I'm sure it wasn't totally easy. But it's not like he was all over the place. When we checked out, she gave us this credit card looking thing to put in a slot so he could get a prize. It was a sticker, cool enough, he loves sticker. It came in one of those clear egg type containers. You might as well have just given him a sticker and not wasted the container. He would have been just as happy. When it was time to leave he started screaming because he couldn't take a stuffed animal home, which of course was for sale. I had to deal with the screaming until we drove off. I understand places like this. Want to make a little extra money... But for a toddler who doesn't understand that he can't have a toy is insanely annoying for a parent. That's was one of my huge annoyances with the place. Secondly, his haircut was just okay. Some places in the back were kinda choppy and around his ears aren't perfect, but for the most part it was pretty good. Like I said, it can't be easy cutting a 22 month old's hair. I would have taken him back but I didn't want to deal with the 'screaming for toy." I'm on the fence about going back. I've had some friends recommend some regular places to get your haircut and employees that do a great job with kids. But just to be clear, Amy did a wonderful job keeping him chill for his first experience with getting a haircut. It was the high stimulation with the toys that did it for me.

I had read online that Marina was a curl expert, so I booked an appointment with her. The experience was fantastic---It's safe to say she is definitely an expert! Our discussion was pleasant and informative, and she was easily able to answer all my questions. She helped me decide on a style I'm very happy with and recommended some great products that have helped me maintain the look at home. I'll definitely be coming back! TLDR - if you're looking for a great overall haircut experience, especially you've got/want curly hair, I highly recommend Salon Vive and Marina!

I have been coming to this salon for over 3 years…read more The stylist that I had been seeing left and when she did, the salon sent me an email letting me know this and offering 30% off and a free treatment. There was no expiration date, it just says "next service". So while I was planning on finding another salon initially, I was pulled in by the offer, plus the stylist that would have done my hair is very nice and I was familiar with her. Seemed like a win win. However, upon checking in, I decided to ask about the email and I was told that it no longer applied. I was offered 10% off, then 15%. While that is nice, that is not what was emailed to me. I mean to be fair, I didn't ask them for a discount, they emailed ME. So I left, then came back to show the lady the email, so she knew I was not making this up lol. She then said ok fine we can do it at 30% off, but the vibe felt off by then. It was awkward for me, which is 100% my problem, but I kind of felt like I would be begging for a discount...that was offered to me before I got there lol. Anyway, I decided to just leave and with that, I am no longer a client at this salon. There are so many places to go in Houston, I'd rather spend my money at a place that honors their word without prompting. Note: it wasn't until I said that I would be updating my Yelp review that they could suddenly do the 30% off. The stylists here are really nice and the salon itself is nice too, but this threw me off.

Light snacks, like cranberries and nuts are provided along with hot tea options, and citrus flavored water. The space is very nice. There are locker rooms with plush spa robes and complementary slippers. The locker room has two steam showers if you want to wash yourself after your massage. They also provide hair products to try as well as a Dyson hair dryer. I was definitely very impressed with the luxurious feel of the spa, however, was turned off by the receptionist who checked me in - her robotic, transactional nature was starkly juxtaposed against the warmth of the spa. I noticed she was the same with all customers so it wasn't personal but interaction with her was unsettling. I booked the 60min signature hydrafacial and the esthetician was welcoming and willingly customized my facial based on my requests. No major issues encountered but I noticed we started 10 minutes late and ended 10 minutes early so I thought marketing it as a 60min experience was a bit misleading. Also note the 60min Signature Hydrafacial does not include any hand/neck massages nor boosters nor light therapy so the $285 price was much more expensive than my usual spa. I will not return for another facial but may try massage in the future. We also booked pedicures and again the space is beautiful!! We were given a palette to select colors and the ladies were extremely friendly! My toes came out adorable! I found the seating to be very uncomfortable for a short person despite many pillows placed behind me for support so I honestly struggled to enjoy the experience but the space was very nicely decorated and clean looking. We were offered tea and snacks at the beginning as well. Overall, this was a very nice spa. I found it fairly expensive and overpriced, but I recognize beautiful spaces have a cost and that's what I should've expected in the River Oaks area. There is complementary validated parking!

She told me she could do what I showed and I trusted her- she unfortunately ended up cutting an extremely thick fringe that was blunt and extremely short/uneven (pictures posted). I told her I didn't like it as it was choppy and extremely think but was told that I just "didn't understand bangs" and she continued to cut until I asked her to just stop because it just kept getting worse. I ended up having to go to my original hair stylist the next day to see if he could salvage what she had done (which he unfortunately could not). I now have an important event in one week and have a bad haircut I am trying to figure out how to hide. On top of that; there was no apology or acknowledgement other than being told that it was just me not understanding. I had to pay $145 only to go get this mess fixed. Just beware of the stylists when it comes to hair cuts here because I am traumatized and will never be coming back to a cut again. I have pictures for reference as well.

The outcome was gorgeous. Selena wasn't available, but Jessica was. When my friend and I met up for brunch at Killen's, I couldn't stop staring and admiring her hair. She showed me Jessica's IG, and it had her portfolio of color and cut with previous clients. I knew I made the right choice booking with her. Since we're still in the midst of a pandemic (weird to say but now the norm), you had to call to say you were here and wait outside before coming up to the second floor. I was 10 mins early, so I sat at the picnic tables outside till it was time. They checked my temp and had hand sanitizer available. Everyone wore masks. I waited maybe 5 more mins in their seating area. I didn't mind because I know how color services can go over time if it's done right. Jessica greeted me, asked if I wanted a beverage, and did a quick consultation before getting started. I showed her some hair color ideas on Pinterest and other silver/blonde hair I had in the past. She took the time to listen to what I wanted. I wanted to keep my length, and she respected that. I love her method of balayage and use of multiple toners to add dimension. It looks so natural and blends well. I received so many compliments. She took her time and was so personable and easy to talk to. She gave great advice on hair tips. I have found my new stylist! The stations are spacious, and the chairs at the washing station are comfortable. They don't leave you feeling like you got whiplash. Lol. They use Goldwell and Kevin Murphy products that smell divine. All the stylists are talented and trained to do color and cut. Bonus points!! This was the hairapy I needed before my birthday. Come book an appointment, and give them a try!

I felt like I was going to my high school prom. This blowout was especially important to me because it was for my maternity photoshoot--something I've been planning and looking forward to for a very long time. When I got home, I tried brushing the curls out to loosen them, as I was told they would fall, but they would not loosen at all. I even tried adding water, and that still didn't help. Unfortunately, the curls stayed tight and didn't give the soft, loose look I was hoping for. In the end, I had no choice but to put my hair up for the photos. I was honestly so sad and unhappy about it that I felt like crying. This was a moment I really wanted to feel my best in, and the hairstyle just didn't align with what I had envisioned or asked for. I've been to this location (River Oaks Houston) before and had a wonderful blow out, so it was just this specific person. That being said, the stylist herself was very nice, kind, professional, and I don't have any issues with her personally. She did tell me the curls would fall once I brushed them out at home, but sadly, that never happened. I just wish the style matched what I requested, but it was so far off. If I had the time I would have just washed my hair and curled myself when I got home but I had to go straight to my photo shoot. I even thought about rescheduling the shoot to another weekend but I would have lost the deposit. I am so disappointed given how meaningful this occasion was for me.
