What a unique restaurant! It's about time this area had an authentic Turkish restaurant! The owners had a successful Turkish restaurant in San Francisco, so you know that they had to be good!! We started off with the Icli Kofte which comes with two balls of bulgur stuffed with spicy ground beef with crushed walnuts over a bed of garlic yogurt. First time we have had anything like that and it was DELICIOUS. Highly recommend! For our main courses we took the advice of our server/owner Hasan. We had the Adana Kebab which is one really long kebab served over lavash bread with rice, veggies and a yogurt dip. We also had the Karniyarik which is baked eggplant and ground beef. A great flavor burst!! It was fun to order two different dishes and share so that we could both taste more. They gave us complimentary pita bread. For dessert we had asure ("Noah's pudding") which is a mix of dry figs, apricots, currants, cranberries, barley, and garbanzo beans. It's named after the meal was supposedly made when Noah and his family got off the Ark after the great flood! I know the ingredients sound weird but we enjoyed it! It's dessert but it felt healthy, not overly sweet. We also had a little complimentary Turkish tea. The service was perfect. It's a small restaurant where you can go casual or a for a date night. Oh my, I REALLY like this place. Friends suggested it and since I enjoy Turkish and Mediterranean food I was looking forward going. Glad I did. The place will transport you to an authentic Turkish experience, whether in Istanbul or elsewhere in Turkiye. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable and can be either casual or dress up upscale depending on your mood. That flexibility is so nice. The dining areas are nicely appointed and it feels intimate. Being family owned is an extra plus and they really show they care about the food, service and the entire experience. The menu has lots of interesting items. We (4 of us) shared several cold mezze (Dolma, Cevizli Ezma, Kizartma), and hot (Icli Kofti, Falafel Sigara Boregi) with pita like bread and yogurt sauces/olives and feta. I won't describe each other than say they were ALL equally delicious and very much a feast of food. We went on to share three entrees, Karniyarik (eggplant stuffed with ground beef), Kuzu Sis (marinated lamp skewer with peppers and onions), and Adana Kebab (a skewer of combined beef and lamb). Each came with rice and some side veggies. Each was delicious. There were lots of extras like hummus, sauces, greens, etc. accompanying many of the selections above. Oh, and dessert! Do not miss the Kunefe! So good It was a fabulous meal. The drink menu is limited but has enough options, including wine and beer, to satisfy everyone. I've been to Istanbul several times, sailed on the Bosphorus once, and I found the food and experiences very enjoyable. And so when I read about a new, authentic Turkish restaurant opening in Rocklin, I looked forward to checking it out. And I can enthusiastically report that Bosphorus Turkish Cuisine is the real deal, that we are fortunate to welcome a new restaurant of such unique flavors and high quality, and my 5-star rating is an easy one. My wife and I arrived mid-afternoon on a Wednesday, and the Bosphorus was nearly empty. We were greeted at the door by Hicran, a member of the family that owns Bosphorus. She was pleasant, welcoming, and eager to tell us about the many homemade menu choices. She was soon joined by her brother, Hasan. It really did feel as though we were being welcomed as guests into someone's home. The room was pleasantly decorated, and the furniture was very comfortable. In fact, I often judge seating comfort in evaluating a dining experience, and the chairs here are among the most comfortable I have found. Well-padded, all with comfortable armrests, and all contributing to a great setting for a well-prepared meal. The menu begins with seven cold appetizers, including dips and stuffed grape leaves. We opted for the eighth choice, a platter featuring smaller portions of all seven cold appetizers. We were also presented with a basket of pita bread that included olives, feta cheese, and butter. Every single cold appetizer presented distinct, unique flavor profiles that transported us to a place we weren't normally accustomed to. The starters were very filling, and so we shared a main dish. The hunkar begendi was made from pureed eggplant, mozzarella, and garlic, and topped with perfectly sized, flavorful, and tender pieces of lamb. If you like lamb, this one is a must. So different, and so delicious. Hours later, we're still fondly remembering it. For dessert, we had kunefe, a delicious dish of phyllo-type dough, sweet cheese, crushed pistachios, homemade syrup, and ice cream. And yes, it was as terrific as it sounds. A great ending to a great meal. It's not everywhere you travel that you have the opportunity to dine at a terrific Turkish restaurant. Now we can do that right here in Placer County. This is Mediterranean cuisine at its best. While not inexpensive, we found it very fairly priced, especially considering the high quality and the generous portions. We lunched today at Bosphorus Turkish Cuisine, a new family-owned restaurant at 6835 Five Star Boulevard in Rocklin across from Costco. OMG...delicious food, lovely interior and remarkable service by co-owner Kaya. The Haydari (yogurt dip with cucumbers, mint, dill, garlic and feta) was so over the top that we ordered a second helping to go! For entrees, we selected 1) Karides Tava Shrimp sautéed with garlic, asparagus, olive oil, lemon juice and served with rice and veggies, and 2) Adana Kebab, skewered spicy ground beef with lamb, green and red bell peppers and special seasonings. The hummus and falafel were very tasty. For my main dish I ordered the Karidesli Salata, a salad with mango, tomatoes, and pistachio-crusted prawns. It was a perfect light summer meal. I forgot to take a picture until it was halfway gone. I brought some of it home with me and the next day it was still delicious. My grandpa is a very skeptical picky eater but he really enjoyed the Tavuk Sote. The ambiance is pleasant and relaxing. The woman who served us, who I believe is the owner, was very kind and helpful. My friend wanted to take me out for my birthday and she found this new restaurant. Our first experience with Turkish cuisine was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, the incredibly kind owner took the time to explain every dish and made us feel so welcome. You can truly tell that everything is homemade, and every bite reflected the care and passion that goes into the food. Each course was an experience that left us in awe, and we're still talking about it. The cold appetizer sampler was fresh and delicious, the kebabs were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the made-to-order dessert was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. We had dinner there this past Friday evening. The food was very authentic and we loved it. We started with the Patlican Salatasi for an appetizer and it was a flavor bomb. Just delicious. We then had the Karidesli Salata and the shrimp dusted with pistachio was excellent but the season and dressing of the salad was even better. Our main course was the Sarma Beyti Kebab - wow. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. We at it all! Lastly, we had the Kunefe, which was something we had never had. It was very, very nice and we recommend you try it. We have been to Turkey and had some experience with this type of food. We can't wait to go back and try some of their other items. The Meze Mix Plate was so good that we actually joked about canceling our main dishes and ordering a meze plate each instead. The cevizli ezme was especially amazing. One bite and I felt like I was back in Türkiye. The İçli Köfte tasted homemade, just like something your mom would make. We visited last week with our family to celebrate Eid dinner. We were excited to try someplace new. It was absolutely delicious and our server was amazing. We tried a variety of dishes, my favorite being an appetizer called icli kofte. We also tried the hummus, and our mains included tavuk sis which was chicken skewers, the Adana kebab, the beyti kebab and the Karniyark- eggplant with ground beef! My husband and I were very excited when we learned that Bosphorus was opening up literally within walking distance from our home, so we marked our calendars for their Grand Opening May 15th. The hospitality, atmosphere and service were all top notch! The food was so fresh, beautifully presented and delicious! We tried the cold mezze sampler. Enjoyed each one :) Our entrees came with rice and salad; each flavorful with generous portions. Even though we both were full, we had to try their Baklava and Turkish Delight along with Turkish tea. I always go to the other Turkish restaurant that we have in Roseville area for 18 years that I love so much and I want to compare both. I order Tavuk sis (chicken skewered) with rice and veggies and it was ok. I would prefer something with more seasoning. We order as well the humus and bread. For my taste I prefer more creamy texture. My friend ordered the falafel dish. She liked it. The owner was very friendly, the food was ok. I never been in Turkey so my only comparison is with the other place and for my taste their flavors here are a little plain. It was not bad but it was not amazing either.
