I had been wanting to try Bosna Restaurant again for a looooong time since it had been at least 5 years since I had been here and finally had the chance to with some friends. The food was great and I had a great experience. This is definitely a versatile place since you could come to hang out with the boys watching sports together, grab a quick bite to go, or have a nice dinner. The Bosnian coffee was a great way to start while waiting for the food. I ordered the lamb chops and sarma. Both of my friends enjoyed philly cheesesteak sandwiches. All of the dishes were flavorfully seasoned and cooked well. For dessert I had the tufahija apple dessert since it was the only gluten free dessert option. For how simple that dessert was it was surprisingly good. It was cooked apple stuffed with walnuts and garnished with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and the syrup that it was cooked in as well. The apple still had a bit of crisp texture which I enjoyed. Throughout our meal the staff checked on us to make sure everything was going well. Great place for family gathering with amazing food and service! Restaurant is very spacious, they do lots of events too. Love their bread - lepinja it's soft and pillowy, it comes with their grilled meals or you can order it as a side too. Two of my best friends are Eastern European. One is Romanian and the other is Serbian. Through the years I've had some really delicious food from parties and get togethers with their families. Bosna Restaurant has always been in my "RestaurWANT to Try" collection. I'm grateful I finally got the chance to try them. They're located in a strip mall so there is a lot of free parking available. When we went it was a two man show so the service and food took a little bit. I ordered my favorite dishes I've had at my friend's place. First of all, it was so much food I had to take it home. Second, I should've ordered something different because I think I was longing for specific recipes. They were still pretty good. I wish the sarma wasn't as salty though. The cevapi came with warm bread and the sauce was perfection (like ones I've had in the past). This was a 3.5 star experience for me. My boyfriend got a coffee and philly cheesesteak. I'm a huge fan of Bosna! Note that this business has 2 parts in the Fountain Square plaza - the market is to the right, and the restaurant is to your left. The hubs and I walked into the market first, and we chekced out their offerings - they had various jams and spreads, chocolates and candies, pickled items, dishware, and other specialty items. We walked over to the restaurant and ordered a carryout: a 5-piece cevapi (skinless ground beef sausages, served with lepinja bread (a traditional flat bread from the Balkans), sliced onions, ajvar (a red pepper spread), and sour cream), a spinach burek, and a meat burek. Everything was made-to-order and they were super delicious! Both the bureks were of a generous slice, which could easily be split into 2 snacks - the pastries were flaky and the filling was bountiful. The star of the show was definitely the cevapi - I've had these at other restaurants, and they just do not come close to Bosna's! The sausages were SO juicy, had a nice little char to them from the grill, and very flavorful! The combination of the spices that were used made this such a savory meal! The lepinja was slightly toasted and fresh, and smearing some of that ajvar and the sour cream made this so tasty! The staff at both places were just so welcoming, kind, and friendly! The restaurant had plenty of seating inside as well as some tables outside for an al fresco dining. We had a delicious meal at Bosna the other night! The meat and cheese appetizer plate has wonderful salty-smoked meat, sausage, and a salty-creamy cheese that was irresistible. For entrees, we really enjoyed the cevapi, stuffed cabbage, and veal schnitzel. We were less-delighted with the spinach pie, the filo dough of which was a little tough and the filling not that special. For dessert, we had the baklava and the hurmasica, of which the hurmasica was the favorite. The Bosnian beers, light and dark, were both great. The service was very friendly and prompt. I love the food here. I've gotten takeout for lunch twice. The first time I got cevapi (spiced ground meat kebabs), lepanja bread (a super fluffy round bread, pita sized but no pocket), ajvar (a yummy pepper relish) and pickled peppers (little pickled peppers stuffed with sauerkraut). Everything was delicious. I spent about 30$ but the food was so good I went back again. I got chicken jager (a chicken breast with a creamy mushroom sauce), more of the awesome bread, and a pepper and tomato salad (shopska salata). I still spent about 30$ but I got two meals out of that because the portions were huge. It's a little pricey for takeout, but delicious and worth it. My daughter in law is from Bosnia and said the food was very traditional. It was delicious and the service was excellent.

My son had a karate test across the street, so we decided to give Bosna a try. Located in your typical Richmond strip mall, Bosna is humble in its bones, from its exterior to the no frills interior. The owner was a very pleasant man and an incredible human being. More on this shortly. Being of Hungarian heritage, I was torn between the goulash and stuffed cabbage, but ultimately selected the stuffed cabbage when I learned that they did not serve spaetzles with the the goulash. My wife settled on the cevapi. The stuffed cabbage was good, but very different from that served in Hungarian restaurants or my grandma's table. While the cabbage and filling was the same, it was the sauce that differed, with the Hungarian version having a sweeter, more tomato based sauce, whereas this rendition had tomatoes in it, but seemed to have been based more in sauerkraut juice. As for my wife's dish, it was breakfast sized sausages served inside a pita type bread, some sliced onions and two dipping sauces. The sausages had good flavor and we had plenty to take home. Ratings 3 stars for ambiance. Very casual establishment. Great for lunch. 3 stars for food. Nothing remarkable here. Solid food, with a reasonable portion at a reasonable price. 5 stars for the people. My son told me upon entering there was a sign on the front door that said if you don't have money, they'd feed you and that you would pay when you had the money. I said that's nice honey, until I was exiting. Went up to pay the bill. Start to pull out the credit card, when he mentions that the thunderstorms of the night before had knocked out their system. I looked in my wallet and had no where close to enough to cover the cost. He then said, no problem, you can pay the next time you come in. I honestly hadn't heard those words since my youth in Cleveland, living in a Hungarian neighborhood! Fortunately, my wife had some money and we were able to pay. This display of humanity alone made Bosna worth the 5 stars! and more! We won't be coming back weekly, but this definitely will be one of two places we visit when we are in this area! read more

It threw me off at first because the market and restaurant are separate, and the nice man at the market pointed me in the right direction. I will definitely be coming back! We had a meat and cheese plate, tomato soup, salmon, and a dish recommended by the owner/manager (see photos). Everything was wonderful. The bread was fluffy and memorable.
