You need to go try the ramen at Boru. The staff is friendly and the soup is superb. The broth is thick and rich. Incredibly flavorful. I have had the tonkotsu many times and tried the house miso. Both good but the tonkotsu is perfection. The bowls are decently sized and the pork is flavorful and soft. Make the trip over if you haven't already! read more

The food is great - the buta kakuni has gone down in quality, but it's still delicious. Don't let the name mislead you, their nigiri is some of the best in the area and I get a sense not many know about it. The service and ambiance are great--a lovely spot for a casual lunch or dinner date. read more

Was looking for a quick ramen place on a cold day and decided to try Boru Ramen. The parking is alittle hard especially if they are busy, I recommend trying to park in their back parking lot. The parking spaces are set up a bit weird and is cramped. The ramens flavor was decent but there are definitely better ramen places you could go to for the same price. The chashu was the best part of the ramen. They do offer a wide selection of different ramens to try and even have other entrees if you aren't feeling ramen. The takoyaki was alittle expensive for only getting 4 pieces and the sauce for it was alittle overwhelming and too tangy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and cozy. The service was fast and good as well. The food came out fast and servers were attentive. read more

I came to Boru ramen after having a craving for ramen for two weeks. There were not too many guests dining in. The server placed me distanced from other customers. I ordered the Hokkaido miso ramen and the gyoza. The gyoza was very good. The ramen however was very rich/fatty. It was just a lot of oil and fat in it. It was too overwhelming. Summary: great ramen, decent portions for the price, great lunch or dinner spot on Columbia Pike! Maybe don't order tea there ($2.50/cup), water may be just fine. Visiting the area, my husband saw good reviews for Boru so we decided to check it out. We called them, attempting to make reservations because from the pictures, it looked like a small place. Unfortunately they don't take reservations so be sure to get there before lunch and dinner rushes! We went on a Sunday for lunch, around 11:30am, and it wasn't packed yet. We ordered the House Spicy Miso, the Buta, and the Tonkatsu ramens. We have nothing but great things to say about them. Their portions were decently big compared to other ramen places I've been too. My House Spicy Miso wasn't spicy enough in my opinion but it was still delicious! They also are not cheap on their pork chasu portions, they're a decent size and I felt like it was a good amount. As I mentioned above, don't order tea here, they charge $2.50 for it. They may or may not refill for free, I don't remember, but if I knew it was $2.50, I wouldn't have ordered it. I would have been happy with just water. They also serve alcohol too, prices were okay. They accept credit cards. Street parking. read more

I randomly came across this spot in search of dinner for the evening and decided to give it a try. The location is a traditional narrow design noodle shop with the cooking area closer toward the front of the shop giving you a chance to watch the cooks at work. The menu features appetizers like shrimp tempura, gyoza, calamari, several different rice dish combinations with proteins such as teriyaki chicken, fried pork cutlets, and grilled eel and for the ramen several variations such as saké chicken, tofu-edamame, and house spicy miso. I decided to try out the steamed dumplings as an appetizer and the crabmeat ramen since that seemed like an out of the ordinary ramen protein in relation to the rest of the menu. Service was pretty good the dishes came out in a timely fashion by time I got done with the dumplings the ramen was already at the table in front of me. As for the food: the dumplings were pretty good maybe a little overdone for some pieces but no complaints overall and the ramen with crabmeat was surprisingly good, I would have liked a little more of the fresh crabmeat but overall a tasty dish, with good broth and not overly salty. All in all a very good ramen experience there so definitely give them a try. read more

Boru is an excellent spot for Ramen in South Arlington. We have been coming here consistently since they opened and even make the occasional trip back to Arlington now that we have moved further into the burbs. The ramen is consistently excellent with flavorful broth, add-ons, and a good portion size. They have also expanded their ramen selection but we always enjoy the Tan Tan Men and Buta Kakuni the most. Service is always on point with a friendly staff and quick kitchen. The restaurant is on the smaller side but we have never had an issue getting a table. Definitely worth a visit if you are craving ramen and don't want to trek into DC. read more

I've been to Boru twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed myself both times. I think I tried the shoyu ramen the first time and this time I wanted to take it up a notch and try the spicy house ramen. Neither disappointed. The spicy ramen wasn't too spicy but it definitely makes your lips burn/tingle a bit with each bite/sip but in a good way that only lasts a second or so. I've also tried the gyoza and their new crunchy spring rolls as appetizers and they're delicious as well. Goru is located in a fun area with a Thai restaurant and grocery store, ABC liquor place, movie theater and even a salsa club down the street. The warm and inviting atmosphere of Goru and their delicious ramen definitely will have you coming back again and again! read more

Looking for a ramen spot, my boss and I went hunting. We wanted something that could top what he had in Boston and so since this place was a quick Lyft ride away, we decided to check this place out. The entrance is a little weird. There's 2 entrances. One is in the back and one in the front. If you drive here, it'll direct you to the back and if you're walking, there's a front door. So it doesn't look the most amazing in the back, but I would definitely recommend you to come through that way if you're being dropped off. It wasn't busy when we got here, so we were seated quickly. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen. It wasn't bad, but I definitely had better especially in Boston. But, I can't say it's bad at all. I would definitely come over here again if I wanted some solid ramen. The prices were reasonable and I enjoyed my experience a lot. Ramen is no longer on the hunting list for me, but because I was curious on what good ramen DC had to offer, this place will definitely be on my list if I'm ever in the area again and I'm dying for ramen. read more

Ramen: 5/5 Contrary to other reviewers, I did not find the broth to be too salty or too sweet. I actually thought it was lift-the-bowl-and-drink worthy. The Hakata ramen was their most basic tonkatsu, so I tried this since it was my first time here. The pieces of pork chasu were HUGE and tasty. Not a whole lot of other ingredients besides seaweed, scallions and bamboo shoots - and extra ingredients are $1.50 each (a bit pricey). However, for a basic bowl of tonkatsu ramen for $12, it was completely worth it. Parking: 2/5 Wish it was better. Small lot in the back with small spaces (I mean tinyyyy) and little bit of alley parking behind the restaurant. We got lucky and got a spot in the lot but if not you may have to park a few blocks away and walk over. read more

My group of 19 decided to have ramen noodles after playing tourist visiting DC for the day. They were able to accommodate us all via a phone reservation. The foods did not disappoint, perfect comfort after a long day. The menu was not overwhelming with just sample choices . The service was friendly and the order arrive fast. We tried this place for takeout this past weekend. I had the Japanese street noodles and my boyfriend had ramen. The street noodles were packed with flavor! I was very surprised by that. The first time I ordered from Boru, I ordered the shio broth. It wasn't overly memorable. Today I ordered the sake chicken ramen and gyoza and it was tasty. Definitely worth checking out for delivery ramen. Updated - Ordered the Buta Kakuni ramen and the broth wasn't as flavorful as the sake chicken. I ordered delivery both times and the only complaint I have is that they don't give enough broth. To me, the broth is the best part. I'm halfway through the bowl and there isn't much left. To put it in perspective, see the photo attached. The container isn't very big and it wasn't even halfway full (look at the line). Because of this, I've bumped it down to 3 stars. read more

I've fallen in love and her name is ramen. My love for the traditional (not college) Japanese noodle dish must be obvious, my friends always ask me where's the best ramen. My answer is always the same: Boru. In NoVA the best ramen hands down can be found at Boru. While you can have it delivered via Uber Eats, I preferred to drive down to Columbia Pike and pull up a seat at the bar. I am always welcomed by the soundtrack of Asian covers of English songs. I personally think it's a hoot. My standard order is the Tonkatsu: silky but delicate. In the soup you can taste the bamboo, green onions, and other toppings that share space inside the bowl. I like to spice things up with the chili oil and pepper flakes that are always within reach. Having the right condiments is a sign of a good ramen joint for me. The menu has a wide variety of other Japanese soups and dishes like kara-age calamari, donburi, and yakisoba. I'll admit I haven't tried much of the other items on the menu, when you have ramen that good it's hard to choose anything else! read more

We were the first customers on a Sunday morning so one of waitresses delivered mediocre service, but restaurant's gorgeous interior, quick delivery, and superior craftsmanship of its food absolutely made up for it. The impeccable quality of the Hokkaido ramen reveals itself with every spoonful of rich, hot broth and melt-in-your-mouth pork. The noodles were springy and plentiful, and paired well with umami bamboo shoots. All three bowls of ramen that we ordered (pork-bone, miso, chicken teriyaki) were topped with a marinated golden runny egg and curly blanched scallions. The overall balance of flavors and textures produced an unforgettable bowl of ramen that left me raving about it to others for the rest of the day. Without a doubt, this hole-in-the-wall spot has got one of the best bowls of ramen I've had in the DMV and elsewhere, and I've had plenty. read more

We've been to Boru Ramen a few times in the past and eaten the donburi (rice bowls) and ramen here, which have been okay but nothing special in my opinion. However, I wanted to share my thoughts on two dishes we got takeout from here which can be a little difficult to find elsewhere: SPAM MUSUBI and YAKISOBA STREET NOODLES. The SPAM MUSUBI came at room temperature wrapped in plastic wrap. The rice was moist and tasted pretty fresh but the flavors were all way too strong, both too salty and a little too sour for our taste. Not sure I would order this again, unless the recipe was tweaked here. The YAKISOBA STREET NOODLES were well seasoned without being too salty or greasy. The shrimp were pretty scarce in the mountain of noodles and cabbage. But, I would probably order this again regardless. A note on the takeout experience: like most restaurants on this part of Columbia Pike, there's a microscopic lot out back of the restaurant where (if you're lucky!) you can park and run inside to grab your order. read more

I came here on a Sunday night over Labor Day weekend. The area was fairly busy and parking was tight. We entered through the back door which was just as fine as the front door. We were greeted by the bar and it looked like a nice place to eat. We sat at the table and enjoyed the ambience looking over the menu even though I already knew what we would get. As soon as the waitress came we placed orders, which came out fairly quickly. The green tea wasn't as green as I'm used to and a little bit weak. The spicy miso is very spicy and it had a lot of pork and mushrooms. The softboiled eggs were great. We also ordered a starter dumplings which were delicious. The teriyaki chicken my son ordered was devoured. All in all it was it a nice place to eat. I think I would try a different type of Ramen next time because it is my favorite and the spicy Ramen didn't have quite the flavor I was looking for. read more

Recommend! My husband and I come here regularly for ramen, it is flavorful, has great service and priced right. We each get a ramen ... (the tonkatsu and the Hokkaido miso I think ...) split a large Sapporo and some pan fried dumplings as well. Service is always fast and attentive. The music always used to make us giggle - they were re-productions of popular tunes that were slowed and somehow made mellow for dining. read more

This ramen spot did not disappoint and the inside is very nice. The portions of the ramen exceeded my expectations and the taste was very flavorful. I arrived right when they opened at 4pm and sat at the bar. I ordered the Kara-Age Calamari as my appetizer and the most popular ordered ramen dish "Hakata" Tonkotsu Ramen. Kara-Age Calamari- The calamari was very juicy and I enjoyed the crispy tentacles of the squid. Trust me people it may sound nasty when you're ready it but the sauce compliments the squid very well. "Hakata" Tonkotsu Ramen- The broth was very flavorful and you can taste the pork within the broth. I enjoyed this dish especially the pork chashu because they cooked the pork well done and it was kind of crispy. That added extra flavor to my ramen. I also added Buta Kakuni which is sweet pork belly. Honestly it wasn't sweet but still good. The ramen bowl filled me up to the max and I couldn't get any dessert. I'll definitely be back next time to try other ramen dishes and some dessert. If you're around Arlington, you have to stop and get you some tasty ramen. read more

A great spot for authentic old school style ramen, despite being branded more contemporary. The service is very good, we were warmly welcomed. The karedon/curry plate was well done. It comes with Japanese curry and a katsu and some rice. Hands down one of the best katsu we've had. The crust is crunchy, the filling is hot, and the meat tastes so good. It's on the sweeter side of curries. We got the Chicken Sake Ramen and the Tempura Shio Ramen. Both the bowls came out in impeccable presentation, overall is a great bowl of ramen that stands out from DC's ramen scene. One thing of note is that the broth is made from actual dashi, so you can really taste the Bonito, seaweed, and shiitake mushrooms. This leaves a very well rounded taste that is savory, but not bloating. read more

An absolute gem!! I was sketched out by the exterior design of the restaurant but the inside decor and ambiance is really nice. My boyfriend ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen and I ordered the Shoyu ramen with sweet corn. The Spicy Miso lived up to his name and had a wonderful kick but wasn't overpowered by the spices. The noodles were coated with the broth and al dente, just how they make it in Japan. The Shoyu broth wasn't as deep or refreshing as I wanted but the toppings it came with made up for it. The egg was perfectly poached, even if I bit into it, the yolk didn't explode into the broth. The char siu pork was AMAZING. It was flavorful, and sliced perfectly. For dessert we had mochi ice cream, which was decent but nothing to marvel over. I preferred the sweet calpico:) Definitely coming here again with more friends! read more

THE BIG: Wide array of menu options. Taste is meh. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I really wanted to like this place. The menu has all the traditional Japanese dishes like the dons (katsu, unagi, etc), appz (gyoza, calamari), and ramen. However the food seemed cheap taste-wise. The lil sis and I came here for lunch and we ordered 3 dishes: tonkotsu ramen, dipping ramen, and a katsudon. Presentation was beautiful, taste...not so much. Let's begin with the meat...way overcooked. I dont know how you overcook a fried pork cutlet. The frying is suppose to trap the moisture, not dry it out. Egg was cooked well. The pork belly in the ramen was generous in size, but since it was overcooked, it was inedible. We didn't finish the pork belly. The broth of the tonkotsu ramen was pretty good, along with the dipping sauce for the dipping ramen. The ramen noodles itself tasted very cheap and the noodles in the broth bloated immediately signaling, poor quality ramen noodles. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Spent about $34 here for the 3 entrees. In my opinion, the meat was so badly overcooked I wouldn't suggest this place. read more

I can't stop thinking about this place! Stuck for a week in Alexandria for a conference and knowing nobody, I came to my trusted Yelp site for a recommendation. It was a cold night, and when traveling alone, I always look for a place with a bar, which doesn't always exist in smaller restaurants. Anyway I ordered some gyoza and then the TanTan-Men ramen, which is a hot and spicy with pork. Prior yelpers had posted pictures of it and the broth just looked the best of the other options. I like a darker broth as I feel like there's more flavor that comes with color. I wasn't disappointed! For those of you with more conservative pallets, ordering something spicy may be risky, but this wasn't too bad! I don't like too much heat, and this was the perfect amount of kick to wake me up, but not make me cry. I decided to give Boru Ramen delivery a try! Overall, it was not bad. I ordered the Shio Ramen with fried chili oil, sweet pork belly, shrimp tempura, and fried calamari appetizer. I thought the meal had a lot of flavor. I reheated the broth on the stove so it could be very hot. I thought the meal leaned towards the sweet side. The sauce for the calamari was peanut based but very sweet, so I had to add sriracha to balance it out. The broth unfortunately was way too sweet for me.
