When I hear sushi and all you can eat in the same sentence I typically proceed with caution. No…read moreneed for caution here. From the moment I walked in Kay gave prompt, professional service. He walked me through the options and ordering was a breeze. The price point is a little higher than your average all you can eat dining experience, but well worth it. I must've had 15 pieces of nigiri. Having worked in a sushi restaurant I can tell you it was phenomenally well done. Beautifully fresh and buttery and the sushi rice was perfect. The eel kamameshi was a highlight and came with a showing amount of eel. Finished everything off with the matcha tiramisu and a cup of green tea. I won't need to eat for days. Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Kay and team!

First off, let me just say.... If I'm honest, whenever I…read moreshow up to an AYCE I'm always skeptical with the quality of the food, especially when it comes to sushi but wow, I was blown away how great it was for AYCE. The set- up and the ambiance is very comfortable and sleek/modern with the main sushi chefs in the middle and the tables around them. The tables have waiters and a tablet at the table like most hot pot/kbbq places and you can order everything off of there. I have only been here once and wanted to try to low tier without going "all in" on the top tier option of diamond without knowing how the basics would taste. Let me say if the bottom tier was as good as it was, I'm excited to come back to try the next tier! Anyway, the basic tier already comes with a lot of sushi options and should be enough for those who are craving just sushi. All of the cuts of nigiri was great, all tender with great flavor, but what stood out to me the most was actually the yellowtail, super buttery and great flavor. The eel was also a top choice! All the rolls were good basic to the fancier ones, I would say that most of the bang for the buck would be the nigiri. The rolls are good but a little too much rice for me personally. The appetizers, didn't spend too much time on them but the chicken karaage was solid and the seaweed salad was my two favorite. Overall, super solid for the price and I'd totally want to go again to try more of their options! 100% recommend!

I am super surprised at the low reviews of this place, because it's definitely one of the best…read moreeateries in the Crystal City area! Bonsai Sushi is a Korean-owned Japanese spot that offers an extensive menu, offering items such as teriyaki, katsu, udon, ramen, bento boxes, sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls, and more! We came here for an early dinner, and we were pleasantly surprised at the number of patrons dining in - we also noticed that many were calling ahead and putting in to-go orders, and the staff recognizing and greeting their regulars. We ordered: +a Japanese Lasagna maki roll +a Box Combination - you can choose from chicken/beef/salmon teriyaki or salmon shioyaki; then, a choice from shrimp & vegetable tempura, chicken/pork/fish katsu; and, finally, a choice from nigiri, sashimi, and rolls; I opted for the Salmon Teriyaki, the Chicken Katsu, and the Kabuki Roll (prepared with shrimp tempura, avocado, and crabmeat); the box also comes with shrimp shumai +a Ramen Set (the Be Set) - the Spicy Tonkotsu (prepared with pork broth, bok choy, bean sprouts, scallions, seaweed, and pork with a boiled egg) and a spicy tuna roll Both the miso soup and the dressing with the amazing sesame-based dressing were delicious - the soup was extremely hot, just the way I like it, and the lettuce was very fresh and crisp! We enjoyed our meal, as everything was prepared made-to-order and came out fresh! The chicken katsu wasn't too thick, well-battered, and the sauce was very yummy! The salmon teriyaki was very fresh with a not-so-sweet teriyaki sauce that was complementary! The egg in the ramen was cold, so I wished it was heated through with the broth and marinated a bit more. The shrimp shumai that was included in the box was mushy and forgettable. The maki rolls were tasty - the spicy tuna roll had a nice kick, and the rice to filling ratio was good. Definitely a nice cozy spot with a handful of seating; staff were kind, welcoming, and attentive! Bonsai Sushi is definitely going into our dinner rotation! +fresh rolls +tasty bento box combinations +kind & friendly service

It was super filling! The miso soup and the dim sum were both very good, and the nigiri was good. My only real critique on my food was that the shrimp tempura was a bit tough. My mom got the salmon box and thought the salmon was alright as well. The whole meal was good overall, though there are other spots in the area I'd personally prefer to go to. As for the atmosphere, we sat outside, and it is a great spot to people-watch while you eat. The staff was great as well! Another huge plus is that there is plenty of paid parking right behind the restaurant, which makes it really convenient to visit the shops and spots around here.

The waitress (so sweet) made a few alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options (it was late afternoon). I got the Seared Sakana which was a freaking 10/10. The options are salmon, tuna, and yellow tail--i asked for spicy tuna instead and they accommodated! It was soooooooooooo good. Melt in your mouth delicious. Also! Before the food came out, the sushi chefs plopped a plate of simple mini California rolls for us to eat while waiting. Free of charge of course. My partner got the Gyu-Don and it was also delicious. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because ppl who came after us got their food before my partner got his Gyu-Don; seemed like the kitchen forgot? So i got my roll before he got his meal, but after we mentioned it, it came out a few mins later. Definitely a yummy place, though. The atmosphere is light, it's very clean, and the service was great other than the lateness of the food which i blame the kitchen for lol. Highly recommended and would definitely come back.

Toryumon wasn't crowded and there was inexpensive street parking close by. We quickly realized that Toryumon's all-you-can eat is head and shoulders above your usual Asian buffet restaurants for three reasons: your food is cooked to order, Toryumon has great recipes, and lastly, they use quality ingredients. Service was fabulous. Lots of options on the all-you-can eat memu. We started out with miso soup that was rich, delicious and had just the right amount of seaweed and finely diced tofu. The kanji salad was outstanding, the best I've ever come across. We loved the pork gyoza, ceviche and shumai. I also loved the beef hibachi, which came with vegetables, fried rice, and a most delicious dipping sauce. I'm not sure how they prepared it, but the endamame was especially tasty. The agu dashi was different than we expected. Usually it comes in broth, but Toryumon's agu dashi was fried tofu squares with an excellent dipping sauce. The spider and double spicy rolls were decent, but were shaped too large and in a little rough around the edges in appearance. Flavorwise, they were still good. We were a bit disappointed that they had run out of the chocolate and vanilla mochi dessert, but we settled for the matcha mochi which was good.

There were other good deals like the $2.50 draft kirin which is cheaper than a soft drink. I was able to find street parking right in front of the restaurant, but I'm sure on a weekend it may be harder to find. The service was very friendly but a little slow. The yaki shabu mountain looked like a lot but it really wasn't. If it wasn't for the marinated meat, I would have been able to finish everything. The meat was a bit too salty for me. I didn't try any of their sauces bc it needed no more. I also got a cold tofu dish which was refreshing. For dessert, I got the Lady M crepe cake with vanilla ice cream. The vanilla ice cream scoop was pretty small and had a lot of ice crystals as if it had been pre-scooped and left in the freezer. The crepe cake was as expected delicious. There is a Gyu-Kaku app that you can download and sign up for which will give you some points and a $10 off for $30 spent. You are able to earn points for future use as well. I think the value was fair for what I got. Fyi there is poor reception in the restaurant. No wifi either. Ambiance inside is dimly lit for the tables, but by the bar you get a window and more lights.

For the sushi, there are one from the order that didn't fit for our taste buds. We liked most the two sushi from the left (including the eel) those are really good. At other times, Takohachi will validate your parking. We were the only customers. We liked that the front side of the restaurant is all windows, so with sunshine streaming in, the restaurant had a warm and cheery feel. We were a little overwhelmed when were given like four different menus. We started out with the pork belly appetizer, which was probably our best dish of the afternoon. We also ordered the spider roll. Takohachi's spider roll comes with soft-shell crab, avocado, crab and fish roe. It was pretty good though the roll slices seemed fragile and started to fall apart. We ordered some kind of tonkatsu "bento box". It came with an excellent chicken katsu (loved the crunchy breading), udon, rice and a simple salad. This entrée also came with these interesting rice "balls" that were rice with a toasted slightly sweet exterior. I also ordered a toasted rice ball. It's what you think a toasted rice ball would be, white rice in ball that's been toasted. No additional ingredients or flavorings. JP ordered a grilled whole sardine, which he liked. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be back.
