BornGa is counter-serve with no table service, you get a pager for your order, the ambiance is pretty sparing, and there's a limited menu compared to other Korean restaurants. If you've been to an Hmart, BornGa is basically the Hmart food court but its own independent restaurant, and that's not a bad thing. The menu is mostly made up of Korean soups and noodles, and I got myself a seolleongtang (ox bone soup). Really good among the seolleongtangs I've had, with a soothing beef flavor, a good amount of boneless meat that was easy to eat, and surprisingly some noodles in the soup along with the usual cup of rice. You do have to add salt as is usual for this dish, and there is a jar on every table. The highlight though was perhaps the only non-soup/noodle dish, the tonkatsu. My partner got it and it was HUGE, literally the size of your face. Perfectly crispy with a really nice sauce, no notes on the katsu itself. We did wish it came with more rice and the side salad, as the portions of those felt too small compared to the enormous katsu. However, there is complimentary and UNLIMITED kimchi (both the usual cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi) that you can serve yourself from a fridge, which is a great accompaniment to any meal. Just be reasonable and considerate with it, I'd hate for them to take it away because someone ruins it for the rest of us. Both dishes along with plenty of kimchi were incredibly filling, and every dish on the menu is a flat $16.99 (plus since it's counter-serve, no pressure to tip). All in all, BornGa is not the kind of Korean place that gives you a whole royal spread of banchan or piles of meat from the grill. But it's a great spot if you know what you're getting into - casual but affordable Korean comfort food. read more

It's been awhile since I've been in Pa but this is a new restaurant for me. The local friends all appear familiar with it though. Went there twice in 2 days. They appear short staffed but the lady serving our table was really friendly and the service was really good. The first night we went there, we ordered the Bossam and Haemul Junggol, along with couple of other dishes. They were both good but really didn't stand out. I like a lot of oysters in the bossam radish salad but there was none. But it was still good. The next night, we received some pro tips from other people who said that we should get the Ahgu Jjim and Tongkatsu as this is what they were known for. Completely agree. I rarely do food reviews, but the food has been so awful that I felt the need to post. I used to frequent this restaurant once or twice a week because I thought the food was good. However, the past few times I went, the quality of the food has gone down an extreme amount. I speculate that there has been an owner or chef change. The pricing has gone up, but the food in change has gotten worse. The kimchi tasted SO terrible, and the main entree dish quality had also been recognizably worse. I have been here a few times for lunch. I've had the bokkem/soybean soup combo with my daughter, the soon do boo and the yukjaejang. All my lunches here have been very good. The service also has been very good to. Their banchan has been tasty and plentiful. The combo dishes are a little pricey, but that is my only "complaint." But all their other lunch meals I think are very reasonably priced and tasty. read more

BornGa being in the middle of the Korean suburban mecha that is North Wales area was somewhat of a disappointment when it comes to cooking korean food. the only saving grace that this joint has is the steam cooked pork belly (beotssam). it is the only thing that is on here that i really good however, it is really expensive and personally, i would rather cook it at home. im a little more critical when it comes to korean food because of my mothers amazing cooking. it has become my standard and many places in the the philadelphia suburban area does not impress me. if you're in the mood for korean food but dont feel like cooking, this place is ok to come too. read more

We loved Born Ga the two times we have been there. The food was thoughfully prepared and very fresh. The staff were friendly and the small plates "banchan" were excellent and plentiful. We especially loved the fired fish and could eat plate after pate of that one. For our last visit we have Goat jjigea which was awesome!!!!! We also had the seafood pancake "haemul Pajeon" which was very good, but seemed a bit pre prepared to me.....I much prefer when it comes to the table sizzling and freshly cooked. Servings were really big and honestly the jjigae was probably as good as it gets !!! You know it's good local food when you are the only one in the restaurant that doesn't speak Korean. If you are looking for great Korean food, this restaurant has it. There is no smoke from table grilling, but the bbq is done in the kitchen. The Kimchi soup and the Beef bulgogi are delicious and plentiful. The side dishes of pickles are fresh and tasty. So, to get right to the point: the food is actually very good, but...the service is absolutely terrible. If service were half passable, it would be a 3.5 star. We came in for a family dinner around 7pm, and it was a relatively decent turn out (5-6 tables seated) for a middle of the week dinner. We were seated immediately and near the back, towards the kitchen (which is fine by me). We were seated and settled in with menus (only 2 menus for a table of 4 adults and 2 kids) in hand. From that point, it took a solid 10 minutes before we felt the need to ask for our orders to be taken, at which point, we also needed to ask for water and side dishes to be brought out. Sitting in plain view of the kitchen, we were able to see that our side dishes were immediately plated, placed on a tray, and left on the counter. Then they just sat there as our waitress walked back and forth...and back and forth...and back and forth. Finally after another 10 minutes, she was simply standing behind the counter looking out into the dining area. I was starting to get mildly frustrated at that point, and asked for her to bring those side dishes to us please. Now, thank goodness...the side dishes were pretty good! The marinated crab was great, the fish was nice, and everything was tasty minus the kimchi (I actually spit it out). A few minutes later our marinated kalbi and seafood pancake came - both tasted great! Kalbi was soft and well marinated, and the pancake was crispy and had a normal amount of seafood. Problem is, we asked for a pair of scissors to cut the meat for the kids. And our waitress went back to the kitchen and out again...and back...and out again...then stood at the counter, and then brought out the main course lol! I thought, "ok, she's gonna bring it now." But nope! I kindly reminded her again to please bring us some scissors. The pork dolsot bibimbap was very good, and the spicy fish stew () was also pretty solid. The lady running the place was super friendly, and the place was clean. I got the dolsot spicy pork bibimbop. Prior to the dish coming, there were many small side dishes that came out. My favorite was the house made kimchi. It was different in a sense that it wasn't too sour. Very spicy and flavorful. The bibimbop came out on a hot stone bowl and it was so good. The mandu (pan fried) wasn't even mandu - it looked like over deep-fried perogies - not kidding. Couldn't even bite into it; it was really brittle. And not hot, like it had been fried a long time ago. The bulgogi was bland, the coloring was bland. The jap chae was also not as flavorful. The mandu guk (dumpling soup) was ok. The pa jeon (pancake) was good. We asked for rice to accompany our entrees and that came out almost when we were done eating...I wonder if they had to rush and make a fresh batch. Our server asked us to be quiet 2 times. There were other diners and our party of 8 were not that loud - and I was just surprised at how we were told to quiet down and then served the surprisingly not such great food. This used to be my favorite restaurant. I went here twice-one for lunch and many times for dinner on Sunday. When I first started coming here, I had a younger man as my waiter and he was the absolute best! He made you feel like you were dining in a fancy place. But he no longer works there anymore. The service is a hit or miss. Some days, it can be good, but most days the service isn't that great, even on a Sunday. I wished the service was as great as it used to be with the younger man working because their food is the main reason why I would go back. Bad service, overpriced for what? We got 2 dishes karbi and pork belly that were 30+ bucks per dish and the serving size was miniscule for both dishes. The karbi was nearly 50% bone. The beef soup and spicy beef soup were just ok. The waitresses, man oh man, they ignored multiple requests for just some hot water and some refill on the small dishes....after the $110+ we spent? They never refilled it. It almost seemed that they would say yes, we hear you and then completely ignore the request. I mean, how cheap can a restaurant get?? The food is okay but the service here is frustrating and disappointing. I've heard better things when the ownership is here during dinner hours but lunch is awful. Forget about drink refills or getting anything else after your initial order. You have to ask for anything about 4 times. I observed the differing levels of service across tables, with better treatment for other tables. Also, make sure to check your bill! They initially charged us extra for items that were supposed to be included in our order. We also went to BornGa when it wasn't super busy at lunch. I'm writing a review now for this place because it's pissing me off so much. My family is still here in the restaurant. The restaurant is at 60% capacity and the service is the worst ever. Maybe it's because we aren't Korean because Koreans that came in after us got their side dishes. We have to ask multiple times for plates, water, anything. Usually you get your side dishes before your entrees. They finally gave us three side dishes after an hour after sitting down. Three!!! While other Korean tables have the usual amount. We were most disappointed by our recent meal here; my boyfriend and I ordered the stir fried pork belly/squid and the gamjatang (potato soup). Honestly, the spicy stir fry was quite good, but during the meal we noticed that the several potatoes tasted sour, and that over time, the sourness seeped into the broth as well. We informed the server that the potatoes may have soured, who without an apology, took our soup back. Upon her return, she said merely that the kitchen staff had tasted the food in questions, and that the food was not sour, and left to tend to other customers. Frankly, we weren't looking for a refund or compensation, only to let the kitchen staff know, as we were towards the end of our meal, and As someone with experience in the service industry, I thought our server handled the situation quite poorly.
