I was able follow them through the process with a wrist band that tracked his progress through the surgical day. Surgery day was surprisingly smooth. The anesthesiology team kept us comfortable, and the state-of-the-art facility felt more like a welcoming environment than a surgery center. They woke up with manageable discomfort--no worse than a tough workout--and was walking the halls just hours later. The nursing staff was phenomenal, checking in regularly and encouraging mobility with kindness and expertise. By week two, my cousin was off prescription pain meds and moving better than he had in a decade! Physical therapy started gently, and with each session, he regained strength and flexibility. Six months post-op, he's back to hiking local trails, gardening, and chasing his grandkids without a twinge of pain. His only regret? Not doing this sooner! Thank you to everyone at Honolulu Spine Center who took wonderful care of us!

I left this practice extremely disappointed. My biggest concern was not simply that they wouldn't…read moreprovide the treatment I was hoping for, but the apparent lack of flexibility and understanding when treating a patient with opioid use disorder who was also dealing with significant acute pain. I understand that pain management involving opioids and OUD is complicated, and I completely respect the need for appropriate safeguards. What concerned me was feeling that the practice's policies were being applied in a way that didn't adequately account for the actual clinical circumstances of the patient. In my experience, the approach felt extremely limited rather than individualized. For a practice that specializes in pain management, I expected a much stronger understanding of the modern approaches to treating acute severe pain in patients receiving medication for opioid use disorder. This is where I believe the situation becomes potentially dangerous. A patient with OUD can have two legitimate medical needs at the same time: treatment for their OUD and adequate treatment for severe acute pain. Those issues shouldn't automatically be treated as mutually exclusive. I left feeling that the policies were more important than developing an appropriate, individualized pain-management plan. That's particularly concerning when dealing with patients who may already be at increased risk of returning to illicit opioids if legitimate pain isn't adequately addressed. I hope this practice seriously considers updating its approach to patients with OUD and ensuring that its clinicians are familiar with current evidence-based approaches to acute pain management in this population. One star based on my personal experience. I would encourage anyone with OUD who needs pain management to ask very specifically about how the practice handles acute severe pain while a patient is receiving MOUD before choosing this practice.

He went over my options on if I wanted to choose surgery or possibly a different avenue. We talked about recovery time and how the surgery could affect me positively or negative in the future. Everything was done in a quick and professional manner. I'm hopping that I'll have great results with the epidural and find some pain relief there. I told him about my horrible experience at the Kaiser Urgent Care (since nothing else was open on Monday-a holiday). I told him about how they just treated me like a number and didn't run any tests (no nose swab to test for flu, no bloodwork, etc). All the doctor did was ask some questions and told me to basically rest it out and take Over the Counter meds (which I already told him wasn't working). I really felt like he was trying to get in and out of his office. Honestly I've had much better experience at the Straub Urgent Care but my insurance doesn't cover that :( Anyways, knowing that my insurance changed from HMSA to Kaiser, he printed out coupons from Good Rx and was so apologetic about my experience at Urgent Care even though it wasn't even his fault. He properly diagnosed why I was having the type of coughing I am and gave me the right medications for it (because that's what a doctor should do). As busy as he is with flu season, he was caring and even remembers details about my life/profession. While I can't promise every person is going to have the same experience, I can say that there's a reason I've seen him for years. I won't be switching doctors until I can find someone comparable in-network. Pros: -Caring and considerate doctor -Haven't had problems making same day appointment when calling at opening (8am) -Gives great referrals to other doctors/specialists Cons: -Hours: He's only in town certain days & in Ewa Beach the others -Parking: First half hour is covered and you pay the rest. I believe it's cash only and the attendants aren't that friendly (the guy gave me a hard time about breaking the $20 that I had to take out just to pay for parking) *so it's best to have small bills/coins on you...

I am writing this review because it is incredible and inexcusable to me that this office can ignore…read moretheir own patients. I broke my foot in three places and was in a lot of pain. I saw Dr. Harris who I have to say was excellent. He took care of my broken foot and also injected my knee and my hip and solved some other issues. However, my broken foot was extremely painful. I took pain medication as per prescribed, I do not like pain medication so I tried to not take it as much as possible. However, at the beginning my foot was so painful I could not put any pressure on it or sleep however, when I needed more pain medication this office completely ignored me. I called several times and I was told someone would get back to me and they never did. I was without medication for an entire week and almost had to go to the emergency room, I just laid in my bed and waited it out until somebody called me one week later! When I told Dr. Harris what was happening he apologized. However, this same scenario repeated itself a month later I wanted to come in and get an injection in my foot so that I would not need any more medication, but I could not get an appointment and I also was having a lot of trouble walking, I called the office and asked for some pain medication and an appointment. They would not refill my prescription unless I came. I was ready willing and able to come in but I could not get an appointment! Then the doctor was going on vacation so I asked if I could at least get something to get me through the week so I could work and then I would come in. No answer. Then the doctor came back from vacation and I tried to get into see him but I could not get an appointment. I asked to speak to him on the phone and they said they would call me back and they didn't. He also told me to message him through the portal which I did, now it is Friday and I couldn't bear to go another weekend without any medication to help me walk. I messaged him in the portal. They read the message at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and no one ever got back to me. So here it is another weekend where I will have to lie in my bed because I cannot walk without pain. This is nothing short of malpractice, and I am disgusted with this office and their lack of communication. I saw another doctor in this orthopedic group several years ago for another broken bone and she was amazing. She always called me back when I called and she checked up on me after surgery. If I was in pain, she gave me advice and told me what to do prescribing whatever I needed in addition to physical therapy. As I said , Dr. Harris is technically very good and he seems to be a very nice guy, but his talents are wasted in an office with little to no communication. I will be finding another orthopedic doctor.
