Yep, if you see kids coming out of the hospital with balloons, I believe it may have come from his office! I'm in treatment with a different acupuncturist - it's been 8 months after all - and I needed a moment to think about this. I wanted to review my care plan and goals after not hearing from this practice for so long. Very much caught off guard. I asked if I could have time to think (I wanted about an hour), and was told no - I would need to decide right then THAT MINUTE - and she needed to proceed down the waitlist. I felt extremely pressured to make a decision on the spot, in a very vulnerable aspect of health care - fertility and women's health. I was about to say yes, and then after thinking about it for the three seconds I had and how unprofessional this all felt - my answer turned to a hard "no." I worked, on 2 separate occasions for a medical research company in Honolulu reviewing the charts of the diabetic patients in the state of Hawaii (yes all the islands). I looked at Kaiser's patients charts and the private doctor's charts. Of the hundreds of patient's charts that I reviewed, Dr. Melish easily stood out as the physician who gave the most comprehensive (and also the Center for Disease Control recommended) care to his patients. He also has a clinic at Queen's Hospital. I see him at his private office in Kapiolani Hospital. He usually spends 45 minutes with me when I see him. I see him 3 times a year for my insulin dependent diabetes. Every visit he does a COMPLETE head to toe exam. My PCP refused to prescribe insulin for me. As a nurse practitioner myself, I knew that I needed insulin injections to control my diabetes. So I started seeing Dr. Melish who immediately put me on a short acting insulin to control my blood sugars when I eat. It is extremely rare to find this level of care provided by any physician in this day and age. He is a real gem! In fact, after I left the CDC diabetes study, the CDC started paying extra to physicians to give the care that they were already SUPPOSED to be giving to diabetic patients. Wish my many years of working 12 and 16 hour shifts that I had been paid "extra" amounts as an incentive to do the job that I already was supposed to be doing. If you have any type of endocrinology problem, go see Dr. Melish. He is the best.

I have seen Dr. Fitz-Patrick since 2006 and I have become accustomed to the level of care he and his staff provides and I am shocked to see the few bad reviews here as in my experience in our community Dr. and his staff are regarded as the best in the business. Yes, they do research and studies in their office and as such they are up to speed on the latest in treatment and alternatives. They clearly communicate, remind of appointments, and provide easy procedure for refilling medications. I suspect the low reviews are conflating someone's negative medical outcomes which are not the Dr.'s fault. If you want a caring, competent doctor and an office staff without an ego, you're in the right place.
