I just got a call after being on the waitlist for 8 months, and told they're "going down the list" to reach out to waitlisted people. I was essentially told I had to decide that minute (like literally THAT MINUTE) if I would accept an upcoming appointment in a few weeks. I'm in treatment with a different acupuncturist - it's been 8 months after all - and I needed a moment to think about this. I wanted to review my care plan and goals after not hearing from this practice for so long. Very much caught off guard. I asked if I could have time to think (I wanted about an hour), and was told no - I would need to decide right then THAT MINUTE - and she needed to proceed down the waitlist. I felt extremely pressured to make a decision on the spot, in a very vulnerable aspect of health care - fertility and women's health. I was about to say yes, and then after thinking about it for the three seconds I had and how unprofessional this all felt - my answer turned to a hard "no." Edie is the absolute best! This review is quite long, so if you're short on time and just want a concise and honest review, skip to the last paragraph. Otherwise, get comfortable! Edie is hands down the best, and I know this because I have happy and healthy 3-month-old twin girls thanks to her! My OBGYN, who is also my IVF doctor, affectionately calls my girls the "miracle babies." I'm a 42-year-old woman who has been battling endometriosis, an autoimmune disease, and years of infertility (around 7 years total). Before seeing Edie, I had undergone 2 laparoscopies and a hysteroscopy for my endometriosis. I also took 3 cycles of Clomid, which unfortunately resulted in a miscarriage. I attempted 3 more cycles of Clomid, but those attempts were unsuccessful as well. Additionally, I had 3 unsuccessful IUI attempts and a single failed round of IVF. My first round of IVF involved retrieving 7 eggs, but only 4 were viable, and only 3 of those made it to embryos. Considering my age, health history, and the lower grading of the embryos, all 3 were transferred. Unfortunately, none of them implanted. Enter Edie! I started seeing her in June 2023, 2-3 times a week. After overcoming several challenges with hormonal imbalances and cysts, which Edie effectively managed, I underwent my egg retrieval in October 2023. Before the retrieval, my doctor monitored my follicles and provided guidance to Edie on the necessary interventions. For instance, during an ultrasound to assess follicle count and growth, one side had larger follicles compared to the other. I informed Edie about this at my next appointment, and she adjusted the treatment plan. At my following ultrasound, both sides had evened out. I was fortunate enough to retrieve 8 viable eggs, with 7 of them successfully developing into 3-day embryos. This was more than double the number I had previously achieved, and the quality of the embryos was significantly improved. I continued to see Edie until my embryo transfer in January 2024. Immediately following my transfer, I saw her for a special treatment to help the implantation process. After my previous IVF cycle failed, I was cautiously optimistic but started experiencing period symptoms about a week later. I was certain it wasn't working, but Edie remained positive and said, "I feel like it worked." I appreciated her optimism, but I was certain my period was coming. Two weeks after my transfer, I received my positive beta results! She was right! I discovered I was having twins, and due to my age, medical history, and the fact that I was having twins, I was at high risk. As a result, I was recommended to be on modified bed rest for the first trimester. The only places I visited during that time were my doctor's and Edie's appointments. Not only did Edie help me conceive and maintain my pregnancy, but she also provided support during my severe morning sickness, which persisted throughout my pregnancy. She also helped alleviate symptoms of a flare-up with my UC and treated all my pregnancy symptoms. Additionally, she offered support after losing my little brother to cancer when I was six months pregnant. Edie helped manage my anxiety, heartbreak, and sleep during that extremely difficult time! Unfortunately, I had to stop seeing her around 34 weeks, which I believe ultimately contributed to my preeclampsia. At 38 weeks (full term), I managed to deliver two beautiful girls, both weighing a healthy 6.5 pounds each! Edie is truly amazing! I genuinely mean that! She cares deeply about her patients, and I honestly believe that if it weren't for her help, knowledge, and genuine care, my girls wouldn't be here today. And while this may sound cliché, after seeing her for so long, I miss her because she became a friend to me. If there's only one thing you take away from this review, when you visit Edie, please fully trust her and the process. She knows what she's doing! My advice to you: Take the herbs and supplements, follow the diet, wear the patches, listen to her advice, and visit her as often as possible. Oh Edie. Edie is like my fairy godmother. I heard about Edie from a friend who was also placed on the waitlist but didn't get a chance to work with her. She told me that Edie was well known in the Hawaii fertility world to help many difficult cases get pregnant. My husband and I were trying to get pregnant over the last 7 years and have gone through one failed round of IVF and numerous rounds of IUI with no success, on top of a natural pregnancy in December 2022 that ended in a miscarriage. I've been diagnosed with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis and have even considered using an egg donor if all else failed with my eggs. I've also tried the Mediterranean diet prior to our IVF and was still not successful. I was 39 years old and figured age was also not on my side. We were planning on doing one last round of IVF in the beginning of 2024 and figured I should at least try acupuncture as a last ditch effort to perhaps help my body prep for IVF. I called the office and was placed on the waitlist. I believe it took a few months before I was called to be offered a consultation. Edie not only focuses on your main fertility issue but works on your whole body and your gut to help you get healthy and conceive as naturally as possible. After my consultation, I was placed on the candida diet to help lessen the inflammation in my gut. Let me tell you, that diet was one of the hardest things I've ever done. You will religiously shop at Whole Foods & check Costco for Organic protein options. I was also going to see Edie twice a week for acupuncture as well as taking my Chinese herbs that taste like dirt LOL. I made it a routine and my coworkers were even aware of my diet and routine lol. Slowly I lost some bad weight, gained energy, and was overall healthier and it became a lifestyle. I wish I could say I was still as good on my diet now, but I am honestly way more conscious of what I put in my body as opposed to before. To have positive results, you will have to work hard, but it definitely is worth it. The office staff is really friendly, parking is validated, and they have Saturday appointments which are very helpful if you work weekdays. Edie also works with Dr. Dominguez who is an excellent Fertility doctor. Together they are like the dynamic duo who will holistically help you achieve your fertility goals. To be honest, I was a little skeptical at first because I'm terrified of needles and thought how could all of this possibly work? Week after week, Edie worked up to the bigger needles for me and instead of feeling tense, I found my acupuncture sessions relaxing. Yes, the sessions and herbs can get pretty pricey, but I always remind myself that the price tag was worth not having to go through IVF again. I started seeing Edie in June 2023 and got pregnant with an unmedicated IUI in October 2023. Unfortunately that pregnancy resulted in a chemical pregnancy, but it was one step closer to our goal. My prior IUIs always used meds like Letrozole but I never ever got pregnant from them. Then the next month we were surprised when I conceived naturally! We were ecstatic but apprehensive since I've had two miscarriages before. I continued to see Edie twice a week during my pregnancy, kept up with my protein intake especially during the first trimester, and took my herbs. I believe all of that in combination helped me to keep my nausea controlled, no morning sickness, and very minimal swelling. My pregnancy went very well and was unremarkable. Edie is literally an angel and I have her to thank for helping me conceive my 2nd child who is now 3 months old! After 5 years of dealing with the roller coaster of fertility issues that I encountered after having my first child, I was burnt out and depleted physically and emotionally. I tried the ivf route, but found that it was not a good fit for me after one cycle and a failed embryo transplant. Moreover, I found that the ivf process was cold and dehumanized, and did not address the individualized reasons why I was experiencing infertility. I was on Edie's waitlist for one year. I had recently had a second miscarriage and it was like someone upstairs was looking out for me when I received that call. After my initial consultation and acupuncture session with Edie, I knew right away that she was the person I wanted to work with. She is compassionate, a good listener, and individualizes her treatment plans. After my first acupuncture session with Edie, I was able to pass my miscarriage tissue naturally without any surgical intervention. She's an excellent acupuncturist. I'm normally quite sensitive to needles, but Edie does a great job and I tolerate her needles fine. I always feel relaxed and rejuvenated after her acupuncture sessions. Her medication regimen requires discipline and it may not seem like it's doing anything at first, but over time you will notice an improvement in your overall health. Like all Chinese medications, the taste requires some getting used to, but be assured that she uses quality ingredients only. I appreciate her so much! Dr. Edie Uchida is just one of a kind doctor. She is very caring, she listens and just has a gift of knowing what the patient needs. I started my journey right as I turned 34. Went to an IVF clinic and they did multiple tests and all came back normal. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I called the office and got on the waitlist, took almost 5-6 months. I went to Dr. Uchida when my IVF failed to implant in April of 2024. For IVF, saw 7 follicles. They had retrieved only 2 eggs. One grew to day 5, normal embryo 4BB. I had done multiple IUI ( maybe like 8-9) with no success. I took Dr Uchida advice. She told me that people usually go to her as a last resort. I wish I knew about her sooner. She was always willing to push and sell her supplements but never really tested for anything improving other than interviewing how I felt. I sometimes felt like I wasn't being heard when my issues changed or if I had a different symptom. If you're thinking about acupuncture; do it! I came across Edie when she was holding an event that was work related unfortunately, I was unable to attend it. However, I still wanted to try it to reduce stress so I googled her and I did not know at the time that she specialized in dealing with fertility. I experienced unexplained reoccurring miscarriages back to back and at this point I was willing to try anything. I could not have been happier with my choice. If you're having doubts because of the needles then don't worry. The needles are very small and during the whole session she'll ask if you're comfortable. She's very easy to talk to and will adjust/reduce the needles if need be but you need to be open with her. Edie will strategically place the needles once you voice your concerns such as: stress, nausea/morning sickness, acid reflux, difficulty sleeping, pain, etc. I always noticed a difference after sessions. During the first 2 trimesters I went 2xs a week and towards the end I dropped it down to 1x a week due to work. She will also prescribe Chinese herbal medicine. The weekly visits and the medicine can cost a lot but if you let her know you have a tight budget I'm sure she'd be able to work with you. Sooooo believe it or not, but I saw Edie for a month and I was pregnant by the next month. I had no idea I was expecting until she asked if my menses had started because she was tracking my cycle. I took a pregnancy test the next day because I did not get the usual signs of it starting and the test came back POSITIVE! Oh Edie Edie Edie. What is there NOT to say? She is simply THE BEST. I almost didn't want to write this bc I want to keep her a secret!! She is already busy and there's a waiting list to see her...but she is a MIRACLE WORKER. I'll be honest- you'll work hard mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and...money wise to get your body back in balance. She is not for the faint of heart. She'll prescribe an intense diet, acupuncture twice a week (which I originally was so terrified of, but now LOVE), lots of pills and Chinese herbs. I mean LOTS. But when you want something bad enough, you do it. Eventually you'll get into a routine and it won't seem as hard. Dr. Edie's staff is also amazing. Here's a little background- I was originally seeing an RE but after a year of 6 IUIs, a surgery and nothing to show for it, I was frustrated and wanted answers. He wanted me to go straight into IVF. Looking for an alternative before shooting my body up with synthetic drugs and hormones, I called Dr. Edie's office and got on the waiting list. I found it through Yelp, miraculously. Like I said, when you want something bad enough, you get answers. Going in to see Edie the first time, I was a nervous wreck. I was straightforward and honest about my situation and at the end of the first session, I had the smallest "baby needles" she calls it, in me. She got me on a bunch of herbs, pills- I also researched and talked to friends who had fertility issues but were successful in getting pregnant. This review is long overdue. Being referred to Edie by a close friend was an absolute blessing. Without Edie's kindness, guidance, and treatments, I truly believe my dream of motherhood would not have come true. I became pregnant at the age of 42 and delivered a healthy, full-term baby at the age of 43. I started treatments with Edie after having done 6 or 7 IUI then having my first egg retrieval which yielded no viable embryos for IVF. Edie referred me to Dr. Celia Dominguez, another godsend. Due to work commitments and priorities, I decided to put my treatments and IVF journey on hold for about a year. I went back to seeing Edie on a regular basis a few months before the COVID pandemic started. We had to work through my irregular cycles, PCOS, polyps, and an endometrioma. I saw Edie twice a week, and I faithfully stuck with her protocols--I took all the supplements and herbs she recommended. I was also treated by Dr Jason Uchida in the same office for Hashimoto's. I followed the anti-candida diet very closely and took all the herb powders as prescribed. I was determined and approached my treatments like it was my second job. I felt safe in their office all through the pandemic, and the level of care from Edie, Dr Uchida, and their office staff was amazing! My second egg retrieval at 42 years of age yielded 19 high-quality eggs, of which 12 were fertilized and then eventually frozen. After the egg retrieval, we worked over a few months to prep for implantation. The implantation went smoothly, and I continued to see Edie throughout my pregnancy up to my due date. we thank our blessings every day that our paths crossed with dr. uchida's. she is literally an angel residing earthside. i had very irregular menstrual cycles (sometimes going three months without one) and whenever i did have a period, they were often quite heavy lasting more than seven days... my longest being thirty days. on top of that, when we actually started tracking our ovulation window, we realized my luteal phase (the fourteen days after ovulation) was short and/or i would start spotting seven/ eight days in, which is not ideal for the success of a fertilized egg implanting into my uterine lining if it's already beginning to shed. not ever officially "diagnosed," but it was stated that i could possibly have endometreosis, adenomyosis, and pcos. so we began working with dr. uchida in january 2021 and i began a journey of NOURISHING my body three times a day with a specific diet that would support our fertility journey. it was HARD for me... eating wasn't something i did well... i tended to fast a lot and usually only ate once a day, sometimes two. she gently explained to me that my ovaries were one of the last things in my body to be nourished because i didn't need them to survive... eating three times a day, ESPECIALLY protein, would help to ensure they were getting the nutrients needed. she also started me on various herbs and pills that would help to nourish my body as well. as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, she adjusted my treatments, herbs, and pills accordingly; carefully observing how my body and menstrual cycle were responding. she was able to help me get my periods fairly regular... maybe about every six weeks instead of three months... and they were all a week long with only a couple of days being heavy instead of all of them! they also stopped being extremely clotty and much more flowy. and at the end of january 2022 we found out we were pregnant! we were beyond excited and dreamed of the family we were going to have... however, in march of 2022, God decided to keep our baby and our hearts broke into a million pieces. dr. uchida was such a HUGE support system during this tragic time for us... she didn't just physically help our body to recover from this loss, she was mentally and emotionally there for us, too. she MOTHERED us as if we were her own daughter... allowing us to cry and feel all our feels while wiping away our tears and hugging us. she was a safe space in an already difficult place to be. we continued our treatments and i finally began to practice qigong (as recommended by dr. uchida back in january 2021, but i never committed to). i mostly did it to give myself something new to focus on and to hopefully keep myself from going down a road of depression. i soon discovered that i loved the practice and it REALLY helped to transmute my energy into a positive, life giving force that not only kept my spirits up, but supported my fertility journey physically by clearing out all the negative/ blocked/ stagnant energy that happened to be stuck in certain areas of my body. it was refreshing and i liked that i could actually FEEL my qi moving within me after a class. i highly recommend it if you're the slightest bit interested in it. in august of 2022, we found out we were once again pregnant. but because of our previous experience and how an experience like that changes you, this time around we were cautiously excited and hopeful... i held my breath at each ultrasound and prayed for only good news. the weeks slowly turned into months and dr. uchida supported us through it all. when we had nausea for ten weeks, she made sure to ease it as much as she could with specific acupuncture points and encouraged us to continue eating as much as we could, even if it wasn't on the diet, because it was important to continue trying to nourish body while it worked incredibly hard to create and sustain new life. in april of 2023, we welcomed our beautiful baby into this world. . i fully believe that because of the treatment i was receiving and the herbs and pills i was continuing to take and the food i was eating (so if dr. uchida tells you to eat, EAT!!!) my breastmilk came in fast and in abundance. i also felt REALLY good after birth... i actually lost quite a bit of blood and the nurses marveled that i looked so well and wasn't at all tired or weak and light-headed from the amount lost. i give credit to all the work dr. uchida did and her persistence in making sure to nourish my body... nourishment is SO KEY in getting pregnant, sustaining a healthy pregnancy, and having a successful birth. we're nearly two months into parenthood with our sweet baby and we just feel amazingly blessed and so, so, SO THANKFUL. the hard was FOR SURE HARD, but it was all worth it to be where we are today. if you're on your own fertility journey and looking for a more natural way to support creating baby, dr. uchida is your Godsend. read more

I only had my first session yesterday, and of course I will update throughout the next few months, but my after my first acupuncture session, I did feel so much better and I felt like I woke up from a very good sleep. I was so relaxed, and I did walk out feeling a bit different. Edie did a lengthy and detailed screening of my health before we started the acupuncture session. I was introduced to Edie through Dr. Celia Dominguez, who I began seeing just after turning 36 and having tried for baby for almost a year. My initial round of tests didn't turn up anything too abnormal, nor did my husband's semen analysis, so we decided to try the acupuncture route. While it took about 5 months to get in to see Edie, it was 500% worth the wait! I heard about Edie through a friend and put myself on the wait list. Months went by and my mom randomly mentioned that she heard about a friend's daughter having a successful pregnancy with Edie. I said I was already on the waitlist, but hadn't gotten in yet. The next day, I got a call from Edie's office that there was an opening. I couldn't believe the timing! After my first meeting with Edie I was excited to try a new approach. I had dealt with infertility for over 5 years. I could get pregnant, but struggled with recurrent miscarriages. I had done countless IUI's and a round of IVF. I saw three different fertility doctors here in Hawaii, but no one could figure out why I couldn't hold a pregnancy. I was told I had mild endometriosis, but nothing that should affect pregnancy. They kept saying it was just bad luck, my age and low egg count/quality. When I started searching for a fertility acupuncturist, I was emotionally drained, losing hope, stressed and exhausted. I was 3 years into my fertility journey, had seen 2 fertility specialists, had gone through: - A total of 14 IUI's - A Laparoscopy surgery which found mild endometriosis, - 3 Egg retrieval's, which resulted in a total of 5 embryos (only 3 were deemed healthy.), - 1 fresh embryo transfer - Many many needles, drugs, Drs appointments, tears and emotion. I first met Dr. Edie who provided a lengthy and caring consultation. I told her my entire fertility history; what had been done, who I had been working with, where I was at, and how I was feeling. I have seen Dr. Celia Dominguez this past year for my first round of ivf, unfortunately we didn't get a positive result that we hoped for after the transfer, then the pandemic happened. I have been seeing miracle worker Edie for 6 months now on a weekly basis. I started seeing her in hopes to boost my fertility& treat my issues as I have been trying for a couple years now & was diagnosed with severe adenomyosis. Well adeno, in addition to the usual female reproductive area offenders of a cyst, fibroid and endometriosis. Edie is the BEST! She is absolutely the reason I am currently pregnant and my only wish is that I started going to her from the beginning. My boyfriend and I had been dealing with infertility for about 3 years. I am 42, had a miscarriage in late 2011 and just couldn't get pregnant after that. We started out with timed intercourse, and a year ago decided to start infertility treatments at a clinic. I came to see Edie after trying to get pregnant naturally for about a year without success. I was 35 at the time, so I didn't have a lot of time to waste and I also wanted to conceive as naturally as possible. I was originally going to the fertility clinic at Tripler. Their 'plan' included fertility drugs, 2 rounds of IUI and if that didn't work, I was told I would need IVF (which included a year long wait list). So, I reluctantly went along with this plan. I was put on Clomid and had one unsuccessful IUI. The next cycle they doubled the dose of Clomid and did not monitor me closely afterwards. I ended up with a large cyst on one of my ovaries and I decided Tripler was not the place for me. I decided to see Dr. Celia Dominguez at Pacific In Vitro Fertilization, per Edie's recommendation. I've been seeing Edie for about 2 years and absolutely love her. I was very hesitant to try acupuncture at first, but the nurse at my OB's office recommended it. I initially went to her for severe wrist pain as the hand surgeon I was seeing had scheduled me for surgery to repair the problem. I've been seeing Edie for about a year now, and cannot thank her enough for aiding in the success of my miracle pregnancy! I am currently 29 y/o and my husband is 32 y/o. I was diagnosed with PCOS during my teenage years, with irregular menstrual cycles. Additionally, I have a septate uterus, and eventually underwent corrective surgery for it earlier this year. My initial visit consisted of a lengthy and detailed questionnaire and consultation to narrow down the areas of greatest concern. After a few more questions, the needling began. I was hesitant to try acupuncture because I don't like needles, but this was surprisingly pleasant. The needles are brand new, one time use only and are very thin. I hardly felt them going in. After the needles were placed in strategic spots based on my issues, Edie placed an eye pillow over my eyes and left me to rest for about half an hour. While I was resting, soothing and relaxing music was being played. I actually fell asleep. Each visit has been relaxing and my lining has increased. Chinese herbs weren't bad, definitely something to get used to. Edie is so calming and caring. Her office is conveniently located and office hours are great, open on weekends and late on weekdays. Her staff is very friendly. I definitely wish that going in I had discussed a budget because treatment and herbs added up faster than I thought in the span of a few months. Edie accomplished the impossible: she helped get me pregnant naturally after over 4 years of infertility and multiple unsuccessful IUI attempts. I'm currently 38 years old, generally healthy (but worn out from work) with a history of endometriosis and my husband has poor sperm morphology. In June of 2020, after 4 years of trying and avoiding IVF, I'd had enough, and my husband and I BOTH went to Edie for treatment. She put us on her special fertility diet and had us come in twice/week. After 4-6 weeks, to save money my husband started coming in once/week. She also prescribed us a variety of probiotics, herbs, and supplements. After a few months of going to Edie, our savings started running low and we figured that we should get on with IVF. We scheduled it for late October 2020 and even had an appointment with Pacific In Vitro to pick up all of the drugs and shots and receive instructions. Right before my IVF cycle was about to start, I took an at-home pregnancy test to make sure it was safe to start taking the steroids Pacific IVF had prescribed. I couldn't believe my eyes: Big Fat Positive! Even Edie was shocked. We're convinced that it was the herbs that made the difference because I'd been going to other acupuncturists for years, but Edie prescribed a particular Chinese herb that prevented me from spotting before my period. It helped my uterine lining stay intact long enough for implantation to occur and hold. Also, it made all the difference that my husband was actively involved in the process, I think his healthy sperm count multiplied 5-fold in the four month span that he went to Edie. And it made it easier to follow her strict fertility diet because we were doing it together. Some things to be prepared for: The combination of herbs and treatments will add up cost-wise. We really went for it so frequently spent hundreds in a given week. If you're financially strapped, tell Edie and she will scale down the number of herbs she prescribes, but it will still not be cheap. (For us it was worth it because it saved us from IVF.) Also, the diet she prescribes is more than a diet, it's a lifestyle and eliminates pretty much all fun things except for meat. It helped to be on this diet during COVID lockdown (and like I said, to do it with my husband). Also, Edie encouraged me to minimize exercise, so I tried my best to stay put after ovulation. (I'm naturally high-strung, and this was difficult.) I also worked from home, which was easy due to COVID. So our 4 months of treatment was more of a strict regimen than a relaxing experience. (Again, it was worth it! Just be prepared.) Last, she really prefers to work with Dr. Dominguez. I see Kosasa, and she mentioned many times that she'd rather I see Dominguez because they work closely together and share results between offices. But I felt comfortable with Kosasa and was firm about staying with him. So in summary, I highly recommend Edie. Be prepared for her to push you but it's well worth it. read more

After trying to conceive for one and a half year without any luck, I went to see Edie in the end of 2017 based on the highly positive reviews on Yelp. Everything is fine with me and my husband except that I have a endometrioma cyst in one of my ovaries, and this cyst is getting bigger and bigger each year. My previous infertility specialist at Kaiser told me it is impossible that the cyst will get smaller and that it will be very risky to conduct a surgery to remove the cyst since a surgery will destroy my ovary and my egg count will get lowered significantly, so her suggestion is IUI and IVF. Being in the middle of our 30s, my husband and I were prepared to try any aided method, but we still would like to conceive naturally if possible. The first time when I saw Edie, she conducted a thorough, one-hour interview with me, followed with an acupuncture treatment. During the interview, Edie asked a series of questions and learned that I was highly stressed because of my work and the fertility issue, my sleep was poor, and my hands and feet were quite cold, etc. Edie then provided with a diagnosis and a treatment plan, which include herb medicine, acupuncture twice a week, and a diet control plan to shrink the cyst; the goal was to help my body recover to a healthy condition and to achieve natural pregnancy before trying aided methods. I also learned my body situation is not compatible with Clomid, so I stopped the Clomid-aided IUI that I was receiving at Kaiser. In addition, Edie recommended to me an infertility specialist Dr. Dominguez who also specializes in treating endometriosis. Dr. Dominguez agreed with Edie that I should aim for natural pregnancy before seeking aided help and suggested a surgery to remove the cyst because she was confident that the cyst was the main reason that leads to my infertility and that her surgery would not destroy my ovary, unlike what I was told at Kaiser. But the surgery cannot be done until my body is ready. Since I was quite anxious and didn't want to wait too long, I requested aided treatments like IVF if I still could not conceive a couple of months after the surgery. So with the help of Edie and Dr. Dominguez, I had a clearer plan, and Dr. Dominguez also recommend some supplement that can help shrink the cyst. In the following months and before I could schedule the surgery, Edie and Dr. Dominguez worked closely together to treat and monitor my endometrioma cyst, to monitor follicle account and size, etc every month. I could see clear improvements each month (e.g. the size of the cyst was getting smaller, the follicle count improved, etc) and my health also got better overall (good sleep, much warmer hand and feet, much less stress, more relaxed, better mood, etc). Finally, I was able to schedule a surgery in July, but one week before the surgery,I found out that I got pregnant. That means I conceived naturally 6 months after I started to see Edie; this is something that I didn't expected since I was ready to do IVF after the surgery. Right now I am almost 8-month pregnant; my pregnancy is quite healthy and I haven't experienced anything uncomfortable. I've been in fertility treatment for just over 3 years, which has included: 2 IVFs, 24+ IUIs & 4 miscarriages. It has cost us thousands of dollars, a crazy rollercoaster of emotion & tons of medications (you get over you fear of shots pretty quick!!).. After we hit the 2.5 year mark, we noticed that the medications were becoming less effective. My linings were thinner, one of my ovaries stopped producing ANY follicles, my cycles began shortening, and it had been 12 months since my last pregnancy. I went through a cycle that I can only describe as stagnant. Despite increasing my medications (follistim & menopur) to levels I had not taken before, my follicles made VERY LITTLE progress. It was disheartening. I really thought we were done, and that my body was too aged, and really, just too tired to continue trying for our own pregnancy (using donor eggs is still an option). I then started seeing Edie. Mind you, by this time I was already trying to accept use of a donor egg, and even contemplated giving up. My husband & I discussed our options and decided to try for a few more months. Boy, have things changed!! I always heard about the benefits of acupuncture from fellow co-workers and friends such as relief from back or muscle pain but I never thought I would ever do acupuncture myself until a failed IVF procedure. I found out my uterine lining was thin, I was bleeding, and we had male factor issues. I heard about Edie Uchida from an infertility center I had gone to and decided to give it try. The thought of needles did make me cringe a little but I had nothing to lose but hopefully improve my fertility chances. I had my consult with Edie last year in Feb. 2011 and I was wary at first but Edie put me at ease and was very thorough. She explained what to expect when I decided to start acupuncture and told me that it would take a few months to reap its benefits. So I did my first acupuncture right after my consult and I was pleasantly surprised that the needles did not hurt as I imagined them to feel (like stinging pain but no!). It was more like a slight numbing feeling and really no pain at all. Edie was right about the after effects though since I was tired as heck after that first treatment. I took a nice long nap when I got home. After a few months of this, you don't feel tired but feel more energized. Edie also advised me about taking herbal medicine that should be used together with acupuncture since it would improve my overall reproductive health. So I bought prescribed herbs from her office and have been using them ever since. After a few months of acupuncture and herbal medicine, the benefits started to show. No, not pregnant yet but my uterine lining was "fantastic!" as my fertility doctor would exclaim each time she would do an ultrasound to check my lining. My lining had thickened and looked healthy compared to what it looked like before. We decided on doing several IUIs after the failed IVF so my uterine lining had to look great before each one. Since we have a male factor issue of low sperm count, my husband decided to try acupuncture and herbal medicine also. When he needed to give a sample prior to an IUI, his numbers were quite low. But when he started acupuncture and the herbs for a few months, he saw a significant jump in his numbers especially when he mistakenly dipped in a hot tub during a weekend getaway (a no-no for guys since it kills sperm). We were preparing for an IUI that week and his first sample was dismal - practically no live sperm! Then on the same day he went in for an acupuncture treatment and drank his herbal medicine the night before the IUI. Then he gave his sample that morning and his sperm count jumped several million overnight which shocked my fertility doctor! She was dumbfounded and she was amazed at his improved sperm count. The cost of acupuncture and herbal medicine can be a little expensive but I found that it is covered by a flex spending account (FSA) if you have one offered by your employer. I used my flex spending account and all I needed to submit was my receipts and detailed info in order for acupuncture and herbal medicine to be covered. At any rate, I feel my health is more important so I would charge my credit cards when my FSA ran out. In the long run, it's the best choice I've made for my overall health. Although we are not pregnant yet, we are glad to find an alternative to conventional medicine. We continue to see Edie on a regular basis (about a twice a week) and we have never felt better. We hope someday our dream of having a family will become a reality; but in the meantime, we know that Edie at the Island Wellness Center is helping us fulfill that dream. Edie is GREAT!!! Soooo sweet, very caring, and compassionate. ~Recommended by Dr. Thomas Kosasa to treat infertility ~Conveniently located near Ala Moana w/validated parking ~She has a receptionist which makes it easy to make appointments, stop by to pick up herbal meds when you need more, etc. (The other acupuncturists I've dealt with didn't have receptionists.) For my treatments, I received acupuncture, Chinese herbal medications, and dietary recommendations. It's only been a little while so I am not able to comment much on the success of the treatment except to say that it seems to have helped with my uterine lining and follicle growth. So far, so good! Edie said she operates on the aggressive side but she is great about making sure you're comfortable with what she's doing and takes care to monitor you carefully. If you want to go slow she will. I told her that I had to cut back in my treatments for financial reasons & she really tried to help me figure out a way to reduce the costs. Edie makes recommendations for what she thinks is the best route to go but also realizes that infertility patients as a whole are a rather impatient bunch and that we won't always follow her directions. Instead of scolding me and making me feel bad when I had a "slip up", she made a joke about it and adjusted her treatments accordingly. No judgement or disapproval...just genuine concern for you as a patient. Edie seems to be very familiar with Dr. Kosasa's treatment protocols which made me feel at ease. I was warned numerous times by concerned friends that I should be careful about taking herbal meds and to make sure my Doctor is okay with it. Of course I've been telling Dr. Kosasa what I'm taking but i do also take comfort knowing that Edie is familiar with him and how he operates. Suggestions for patients considering acupuncture for infertility ~Figure what you can afford and let Edie know your budget ahead of time. The cost of herbs was a lot more than I had anticipated and I did not expect to have to go in so frequently. Had I known from the start how intensive my treatments would be I would have probably paced myself a little slower at the start (for $ reasons) ~The herbal medicines can be overwhelming at first but it really does get better after the first few days. Infertility has been an issue with my husband and I for three years now. At first we tried timed intercourse, a multitude of ovulation kits and even sought the help from a doctor to help us figure out the best time to have intercourse based on the results of blood tests and lab work. With no success; we escalated our attempts of getting pregnant with medicinal help in the form of follistim combined with more timed intercourse. Still no results. Both my husband and I went to the doctors to get checked out to make sure we didn't have any infertility problems. We didn't. All the results from all the lab work that was completed came back normal; and our fertility doctor didn't really have an explanation to give us as to why we weren't getting pregnant. We decided to take the next step and try our luck with Intrauterine insemination (IUI). After 5 unsuccessful attempts of IUI; our chances of getting pregnant were dismal and we even discussed adopting children. This is when I wanted to try acupuncture. Nothing else seemed to be working, so I really had nothing to lose. My initial visit with Edie went great. We discussed the problems I've been having with infertility and Edie drew up her plan of action. A series of acupuncture appointments, a slight change in diet and Chinese herbal tea was all within my prescription. A couple months went by and my cycle came up... Test results from my fertility doctor revealed that I had more follicles, the follicles were larger than they have ever been and the lining in my uterus was the thickest it has ever been. My body felt ready. Since we didn't want to take any chances this time around; we decided to combine acupuncture with in vitro fertilization (IVF). The day of egg retrieval yielded 13 eggs! All the eggs were fertilized and 7 made it to the next stage of IVF. On transfer day, we transferred two embryos; and we are currently in the waiting process of blood test to confirm that I am indeed pregnant. I can honestly say; If it wasn't for the help I've received from Edie, I don't think we would be where we are today in our pregnancy. My husband was pretty skeptical about acupuncture at first, but when we started getting all the improved results from our infertility doctor, his attitude towards it changed. He is now a firm believer in Chinese herbs and acupuncture. Everything about the Island Wellness Center is just simply wonderful. The office is clean, the staff members Kin and Ellen are phenomenal and Edie is the best there is. Appointments were easy to make, the building that Island Wellness Center is located in always had parking when I went, the waiting room is clean and comfortable (says my husband), the treatment rooms are also clean and has a very nice view overlooking downtown Honolulu. I also like that during my treatments Edie played relaxing music in the room. Even the times that I had questions regarding the Chinese herbs I was taking or the raw herbal tea I had to make, I got prompt answers; and if the staff members didn't know when I called; they asked Edie and I ALWAYS received a follow up answer that day! Edie was always outstanding at explaining what she planned on doing, the actions and reactions of my body and the Chinese herbs and acupuncture, and what and how each herb and acupuncture treatment worked on different body parts and organs. Edie even gave me her cell phone number, so in the event I ever had any questions about anything; she would answer me right away. I even received follow up text messages from Edie asking how everything was going on the days of my egg retrieval and embryo transfer. That really is awesome of her to do that. That just shows that she really cares about her patients, and genuinely wants to help people through acupuncture. Edie really is a wonderful person. She gives off this vibe that makes her very approachable and allowed me to be really open about everything right away. She is a very nice, very caring professional; and every time I go to see her I get this feeling of stress relief and relaxation knowing that I am in the hands of the best that's out there. I came to Edie with high hopes after reading her reviews on Yelp. I was going to an acupuncturist that I liked, but wanted to try someone who specialized in fertility treatments. It was difficult to book my first appointment and I needed to wait 3 weeks to have a consultation due to the extended time they needed for first-time patients. I showed up at 2:30, but at 4:00 I still was not seen and went up to the front desk. The receptionist apologized and spoke to the doctor. I was not seen until 4:30 - 2 hours later! I was ready to walk out but I had waited 3 weeks for the appointment. The receptionist said they have you come in 45 minutes early to fill out paperwork which was not told to me when I scheduled my appointment. I've been to other acupuncturists that have links on their website to paperwork and you can fill it out at home and bring it in with you. This is more convenient. My appointment was very disappointing. Edie said that my fertility doctor does not really recommend patients taking chinese herbs, as his office has already prescribed supplements (which I already knew after asking my doctor). My fertility doctor also does not recommend me taking additional supplements without confirming with my kidney doctor as I have lost a kidney. She said her patients usually take the herbs anyways without telling him. I felt uncomfortable by this suggestion- but maybe it works for other patients. After speaking with Edie about my health, she felt that she couldn't really do anything to help my case. She said that I have candida, and to treat that I would need to see her husband. However, she said that I couldn't be treated by her husband at this time because I am starting fertility treatments and the hormones would contradict her husbands treatments. She recommended I eliminate certain foods from my diet to help, and after listing a bunch of foods I asked if she had a print-out so I could remember. She said her husband has a print-out but she couldn't give it to me. I'd have to schedule an appointment with him to get it. As far as fertility, Edie said I could have acupuncture done but it was difficult for her because of the candida issue, and I didn't want to take additional herbs per doctors orders. When asked if I wanted to make a follow-up appointment it was difficult to schedule and they only had last appointment slots. I am glad that so many others have had success with Edie. She seems very knowledgeable. I was disappointed that this office was unable to address my needs. Fortunately, I was able to see a different acupuncturist who was comfortable and enthusiastic with addressing my case, and I have seen positive results. read more

In the end of January 2015, a Reproductive Endocrinologist told my husband and I we had a 07-1.2% chance of conceiving naturally and we'd be "wasting time" if we refused medically assisted cycles (Clomid and IUI). We're only 30 and generally healthy and this just didn't sit right. So we start looking into Eastern and Naturopathic medicine and found Edie on Yelp. We are very lucky that someone on Oahu specializes in alternative infertility treatment and even more lucky that person is Edie. Not only is she knowledgeable, thorough and professional, she is equally gentle, kind and available. When I came to her in February 2015 it marked nearly 2 years of trying to conceive and I was half-crazy feeling like I was dealing with it myself, but seeing Edie is like having a team member in your infertility battle. That on it's own is invaluable. Her treatment focused on the CAUSES of my infertility (I have an atypical case of PCOS, irregular cycles and a miscarriage), with the goal of having the healthiest, pregnancy-ready body I could. I took all of the herbs she recommended and went to her once a week.... ....and I was pregnant by February!!! I'm 6 weeks today (March 21). I only had 4 acupuncture treatments before my actual conception but it did the trick!! I know this won't be the case with everyone, but there can't be a better recommendation than pregnancy the FIRST CYCLE using Chinese Medicine and acupuncture after TWO YEARS of no results on our own. We think some of my quick success is due to my body being young but also it's because Edie really knows what she is doing. I will be having her monitor my pregnancy and doing acupuncture throughout because now the real show begins!
