Dr. Kosasa helped my dreams of having children become a reality. He is a doctor who is just as excited for you to conceive and successfully carry a baby to term as YOU are. You can SEE his JOY in helping families!! It's so rare to find a gem like him in the medical field... and I'm grateful every single day for him and for his heart for women desiring to become mothers. I truly thank God for this man. Dr. Kosasa is, by far, one of the most brilliant and compassionate doctors out there. We are blessed to have him here in Hawai'i, contributing to our community by helping women and families expand our village through conceiving and carrying new life. There are so many women and couples out there who lose so much time (and hope) trying [often, unsuccessfully] to conceive on their own. After six months of trying for my 2nd baby with my husband, I got so disheartened and frustrated and was encouraged (by my mom, no less) to seek Dr. Kosasa's help. He had helped her conceive in 1995 with my brother and he helped her maintain an *EXTREMELY* high risk pregnancy with me in 1985. I met with him in early 2020 for help to conceive my 2nd child. He evaluated me, diagnosed and treated my main issue affecting my egg quality, production and release (thanks a lot, PCOS!). In less than a month of his treatment, I had a healthy, beautiful egg! Dr. Kosasa administered an HCG shot to provoke ovulation and instructed us to "try" for the next three days. We successfully conceived and over the next 6 months, he checked on me every single week and gave me progesterone shots to maintain the pregnancy. I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl! In early 2022, I sought Dr. Kosasa's care to maintain my natural pregnancy with my 3rd baby. It was, yet another high risk pregnancy with sporadic vaginal bleeding, polyhydramnios and on top of that- at 14 weeks along, I had an emergency surgery to remove my appendix- a laparoscopic appendectomy. Dr. Kosasa cared for me and my baby so well that come that September, baby girl #3 was born safely. In December of 2023, we had a miscarriage and realized that we really did want to try for another child afterward. This was our third miscarriage to date. I wanted Dr. Kosasa to be a part of every step to address any issues and perhaps to repeat the same treatment we had with baby #2. We discovered in the ultrasounds in baby #3 that I had polyps in my uterus, which, per Dr. Kosasa, was most likely the culprit for the irregular bleeding and miscarriages. We scheduled to remove them via polypectomy (outpatient procedure) and within one month, we naturally (and unexpectedly) conceived our 4th baby. This was the first pregnancy with no bleeding, no complications, no issues whatsoever. I did have polyhydramnios again, but no one can prevent that. I gave birth to my 4th baby, safely and naturally in November of 2024. Dr. Kosasa has enriched my life and the lives of my family in such a tangible way that we get to see and love and care for every single day in our four babies. His care and expertise kept my life safe, helped my brother be conceived and born, helped three of my children be safe in the womb... I don't believe that women should be mistreated by the healthcare structure, that Dr Kosasa's practice is interested in billing more than serving, and that they purposely take advantage of the system and the ignorance of the patient to maximize profits. This is unethical and I wish we will see a change by avoiding these practices and exalting the practitioners that stand up for fair and dignifying treatment: from the specialist to the receptionist. This was my experience: I recently started a Tricare Prime membership and was mindful from the beginning to not be billed unnecessarily, I decided that if the care was billable I will just wait to get my tests after I come back to basic Tricare in a few months. Therefore, I was very clear from the beginning that I wanted to know my cost upfront. I called his office about scheduling an appointment and they gave me very unclear information of how much it will cost, telling me that "most likely it will be all covered by the insurance". I was not satisfied with the uncertainty and called tricare select, they instructed me to tell the office to bill it as "Women's health visit " in order for it to be covered. I went to the -very short- first appointment of about five minutes, explained about the billing and was surprised a few weeks later to receive a bill for $120 because it was not billed as women's Health visit. I returned to the office for a second appointment to perform a routine test, I had already called prime Select to double checked that it will be covered and called the office to confirm. When I got there they told me that it might or might not be covered by the insurance, but if I wanted I could pay $45 instead and they wouldn't be filling it to the insurance. Since I was already there and the previous billing did not went well, I did that. At that point I told Dr. Kosasa about re-issuing the first bill as a women's health appointment and he directed the receptionist to do that. Today I called again to cancel an appointment and ask about this bill. The person on the phone told me that they will not change it because the second visit was billed as my women's health visit.... The one that I payed for, to avoid them billing it to the insurance! The person was very unhelpful and inconsiderate, remarking that "she will send the bills and I decide if I wanted to pay them or not". After this experience, I was absolutely displeased concerning the matter of billing, which is an essential part of the Patient-doctor relationship. Nevertheless, this review is not about the doctor himself, since after two very short visits I have only spent a few minutes with him. This is insufficient time to get an opinion about his expertise, character or ethics, but his credibility surely takes a beat by the sketchy practices of the people that he himself has chosen to represent him in dealing with the patients. Doctor Kosasa is not only a miracle doctor but he is also so kind and positive. He never gave up on my husband and me. Most doctors would've given up after 3 or 4 tries at IVF, not doctor Kosasa. He told me, "We won't give up until we have baby. We'll make plenty plenty eggs so we can keep trying." And that's what he did. We not only kept trying but just seeing doctor Kosasa and hearing his positive, encouraging words helped me to keep trying. After many Many years, we finally have our miracle baby. Update: Since my last review I suffered 3 more losses. I conceived twins in 2013 after my first loss and Dr. Kosasa proactively scheduled a surgery at 14 weeks for me to strengthen my cervix (procedure called: TVC). Unfortunately, it failed at 21 weeks since the babies were too big. It didn't fail because of Dr. Kosasa's ability, but rather the nature of the beast where TVC's are found to fail a lot with multiples. After that loss, I went online and looked up specialists to get a TAC. I found one of the best docs in Chicago and spoke with Dr. Kosasa; he backed my decision 100% and we got the ball rolling by doing some preliminary checks (HSG) and he also spoke with Dr. Haney in Chicago to go over the procedure. On 1/13/14 I got my TAC surgery in Chicago. Came back and Dr. Kosasa took care of me from then on. We had an IUI after and I got pregnant again. We did all of the normal regimen but unfortunately at 9 weeks I went in for an ultrasound and baby's heart stopped beating. Dr. Kosasa did the D&C after speaking with my Chicago physician of how to do it and everything worked out. Fast forward to Oct 2014 and I got another IUI and got pregnant again. This time we did all the same procedures (weekly checks at Dr. Kosasa's office, going to FDIP for cervical length checks, NST's, etc. We scheduled my c-section at 39 weeks and everything worked out this time! I held my baby girl to term and she was 9lbs, 11oz!! My c-section went perfectly, no scarring! Overall, Dr. Kosasa is wonderful and he truly works for others and he really values his patients! There are few doctors out there who don't just work for the money, but honestly work because they love helping others and that's what Dr. Kosasa does. I can't praise him enough! read more

We were referred to Dr. Kosasa by my primary OB due to male and female factors. We went to our first consult and were glad we were referred to him since he is one of the best in the field. He is quiet but positive. We initially tried 3 rounds of IUI. After the IUI he did a laparoscopy which found endometrosis which he removed, and blocked tubes. We then moved on to an IVF which failed, then a hysteoscopy, and two more IVF cycles. His surgical skills are excellent, with minimal scarring and recovery isn't bad. Due to his availability, patients are scheduled in a short time window, e.g. 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. His office was regularly crowded with multiple patients, sometimes causing us to wait on the bench outside his office for our appointment. Every office visit we spent more time waiting for the appointment than the 5 minute or less appointment. He never explained what the laparoscopy and hysteoscopy would entail, e.g. what it would help, what to expect. He just mentioned the term. We finally conceived during our third round of IVF but it ended in a miscarriage. We had an ultrasound at another place to confirm it. When he told me what I already knew, he opened the door and told me the results while standing in the door. I had a natural miscarriage of mostly everything, but ultimately a month later I needed a D & C since not everything was passed. He didn't test the tissue. I wish he would have presented all of my options when he first told me about the miscarriage. I ended up bleeding for 3 months and when I called his office they said it's normal. That was the final straw, his lack of compassion and the way he told me about the miscarriage. I have since found another doctor who is another one of the best in the field and the care and compassion experienced with my new doctor made me wish I had switched earlier. I spent 2.5 years with Dr. Kosasa, time I don't have that was wasted. read more

Dr Thomas Kosasa is such a blessing. He was the first fertility doctor who listened to my concerns and took me seriously. He was able to finally give me the diagnosis (endometriosis) that I've always felt I had but was dismissed by other doctors. Now my husband and I can have a better chance of conceiving naturally. My former fertility doctors, Dr Christopher Huang and Dr Christina Arnett were unempathetic and did not do everything to find out why my three IUIs didn't work. Only Dr. Kosasa did! It's no wonder he's one of the best in this field. He even helped my mother-in-law conceive my husband 36 years ago when she had been trying for 10 years to conceive. I started coming to Dr. Kosasa recently after being so annoyed and fed up with the previous Fertility doctor (you can see in my other review how I felt about him!). I was referred to Dr. Kosasa by a friend who couldn't say enough good things about him! So I thought why not check him out. Anyone is better than the previous one! I explained my insurance and my worries, my intentions, and he said, ok, we will work with you to make it happen! And you know what, he not only bent over backwards to help me with my timeline, he came in on his week off work to meet up with me and worked with me around MY SCHEDULE! No doctor is willing to bend over backwards like that! I can't say enough good things about him and his practice. Right away, he suggested we do a Hysteroscopy! It's a minimally invasive surgery where he inserts a tiny telescope (hysteroscope) through the belly button into the uterus to check to see if there are any polyps (cysts) or endometriosis (too long to explain, you can google it but if you have painful cramps during your monthly visitor, this might be an indication that you have it!). Women over 32 all will have developed endometriosis. Anyways, the previous doctor did NOT EVEN GIVE ME THE OPTION TO TRY Hysteroscopy or not. There was no option. It wasn't even discussed. Being incompetent in the world of child bearing, I wouldn't have known otherwise. Anyways, I do what Dr. Kosasa suggested. He also advised that Xrays, scans, MRI's would never catch this. You would need to specifically get a camera to go in to only see it. Low and behold, not only did I have a ton of endometriosis, I had a polyp bigger than a golf ball! YES A GOLFBALL!!! Imagine this, it's half the size of your uterus. So how does it help with implantation, or child bearing? IT DOESN'T! You have to get rid of it to even get any sort of chance! Remember, the previous one didn't even bring this up! Anyways, I'm now in day 3 of the IVF process, but Dr. Kosasa and his staff are amazing. I especially love Hong and Erin the nurses whom I've been working with when I don't go talk to Dr. Kosasa. The shots have been painful, I'm not gonna lie, I'm a baby when it comes to needles, but everything is running like clockwork so far. And there have been times, I come in and it's a packed room, and days where I'm the only one in the waiting room, but I don't care. I'm so thankful I finally found a wonderful doctor that I can trust, a few minutes extra of waiting isn't an issue at all for me! Stay tuned, I just can't say enough good things about him. And after finding out that Dr. Kosasa does most of this because he's loves his work, seeing people achieve their dreams, and I know he has probably donated more money than he has made doing this....THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIS CHARACTER AND HOW MUCH HE LOVES DOING THIS FOR THE PASSION AND HELPING PEOPLE that makes me even more thankful that I found such a wonderful doctor to guide me on this journey! Did I mention they are open 7 days a week? How convenient is that? PS. They made an appointment for me this Sunday. He's off. But he told the nurse, it's ok, I'll come in on Sunday to see her. I originally went to C. Huang. I cant say anything good about that experience ( see my review, which was blocked due to my 1 star) I did several IUI, and was going on to IVF when I decided to get a second opinion with Kosasa. This decision changed my life forever! The first thing he did was do and lap hysterosocpy, which Huang never did! He found the problem, and I got pregnant the next cycle. If I hadnt gotten the second opinion, I would have done the very expensive IVF, and I would have never got pregnant. Kosasa actually helped train Dr. Huang. As for the office and details, he is very nice and patient. His staff is so-so. However, I truly believe he is the most experienced in the field, and he will give you your best chance of success! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. K for 18 years. I feel I know him and his office so well I can do the inner workings. As for too many patients, I felt the same way too. However, his office hours in his private practice are only 1-3 and some days 12:30 if he is running late because of a surgery or emergency delivery his whole schedule is off. Now I will be the first to admit they book 3 people at the same time so we all no he can't see 3 people at the same time. But each room has a purpose. This will answer the other reviewers question as to why people were seen before them. Room one is only exams of pregnant people Rooms 2 and 3 are for the IUI treatments however, Room 3 is the one that is used for your actual IUI and you have to sit with your legs up about 15 to 20 minutes. Mr quite... yes he is but if you ask questions he will answer each and every one of them in a matter you will understand. Old fashion: Dr. K doesn't believe women are puppies and should have litters. Now being a person who has infertility treatments I get the frustrations but you need to understand the risk to the women too much drugs causes cancer too. My chief complaint has always been but I am ready on Sunday... but hes not open! Oh and after you are pau having babies... good luck on getting annual appointments.. suddenly you are not as important.. But I love DR. Dr. Kosasa is a great doctor. Quiet, but positive. My husband and I always feel good leaving his office. His staff--- well, they can get better customer service. On a two day visit, on both days, we were seen an hour passed our appointments. On the second day, we went up to the receptionists three times. They kept telling us another ten minutes. They didn't convey what was taking so long, and why other people whos appointment was after ours, were seen before us. I have been seeing Dr. Kossasa for the past few months. During that time, he has not stopped to ask if I had any questions. I feel like his patients are just cattle he and his staff herd through their practice. He only spend just enough time with me to do what he needs to. I currently feel I am going through another miscarriage. I called his office in tears asking to have an appointment. Once I saw him, his first comment was "Congratulations!". That is not something you tell someone who thinks she is going through a miscarriage. That was cruel and heartless. He never once asked what I was going through, or how I felt. It was give me a shot, do a blood test, and out the door he went. His patient (me) was scared and nervous and he only made it worse! He might be kind and understanding to other patients, but my experience was the complete opposite! Do not use him as a fertility doctor if you want someone compassionate and caring to help you through your journey!!!! read more

It pains me to write this review because Dr. Kosasa is so very kind, but I feel like I wasted my time here. (Overall I was with Dr. Kosasa for 5 cycles of fertility treatments.) In my opinion, the main problem with this office is that Dr. Kosasa has too many patients in his practice. The waiting room gets so full sometimes that patients have to wait outside in the hall. (If you do not want people to know you are doing fertility treatments, this may not be the office for you. On three separate visits, I ran into people that I knew in the waiting room. Kinda awkward to see your male co-worker in there with his wife!) Visits felt like a revolving door/assembly line type of operation and the treatment plan I received did not feel like it was tailored to me as a patient but more like a one-size fits all type of protocol. At each appointment I felt that Dr. Kosasa barely spent any time with me, and if I wanted to get any information, I had to ask, and ask fast because he was out the door before I could blink. I ended up with a different doctor who diagnosed a bunch of other issues that Dr. Kosasa did not ever mention and quite possibly never noticed. The equipment in the office is not as modern as I have seen in other offices and his protocols seem to be "old school" and not very progressive. Dr. Kosasa is very kind and positive, however I think at times he can be too positive and not as upfront and honest as I would have liked him to be. I know that he has and still does a lot for the OB/GYN/RE profession in Hawaii, for which I thank him, however I cannot recommend him for RE services. read more

Really, no reviews? He is a very nice doctor! If you dread someone giving you your yearly exam (female), he is the one to go see. He is quick and painless. He is also very understanding and is happy to take your call if you have questions (big plus). The staff he works with is very nice too. I would give four and a half stars if I could because of three things that are minuses that have nothing to do with him. First, he is very popular (for good reason) and there can be a ton of people waiting to see him. Two, there isn't as much privacy between the counter and the waiting room. And third, the parking garage is always busy and the spaces are really narrow. Way too many SUV's park in the compact spaces, so obviously it is not enforced. With the validation you stamp at the office, it is two bucks to park. read more

Dr. Kosasa is a wonderful doctor. He is one of the best at what he does. He is kind, compassionate, and very caring. His bedside manner is exceptional and his surgical skills are unsurpassed. Although he wasn't able to get me pregnant, he is one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure to be a patient of. Because he is one of the best, he does have a lot of patients, and that should be expected.
