This was our favorite of our trip to Barcelona. Very casual place with excellent food. Went on the suggestion of a couple we ran into. Very happy to find it. The roasted red peppers with goat cheese was a special surprise. We also had the Iberian ham, the salmon (didn't real it was sushi, but was very good) and the chorizo (very good). First and foremost, the staff, particularly the floor manager was exceptional! My husband and I arrived at a busy time and while there is no waiting area (if so, very small) the person taking mental notes on names and the number of parties was on top of it. He let each person know when they would be next and kept them alert, even if there were no available tables at a particular point. When we finally were seated, we enjoyed a glass of cava, whiskey and ordered several dishes that were exceptional..namely, I really enjoyed the mussels and the meatballs. If you are in town or you're local (I apologize now for loud tourists) please stop by. You really can't beat the service here and the prices were on point. Our group was eager to hit up a poppin' tapas restaurant during our 24-hour Barcelona visit and Bormuth caught our eyes due to the great reviews and its proximity to our hotel. Upon arrival, the restaurant was already packed but fate was on our side and we grabbed one of the last available tables. Our server provided menus in English and spoke excellent English herself and after taking our order, our food arrived at our table within just a few minutes. Highlights: -White Anchovies: for you anchovy skeptics, these beautiful white filets are not nearly as salty and intense as the canned ones you find on pizzas. They're delicate with a nice seafood bite, I was a big fan. -Meatballs: rich, delicious sauce, and oh-so-meaty -Pimientos Padron peppers: love these little roasted pepper bites - so addicting and flavorful! Jamon de iberico: best ham in the world?! I mean c'mon, you can't go wrong with this item at any tapas joint. -Cava sangria: served in a HUGE glass and pretty dry - yum! The so-so: -Calamari: flavor was pretty standard; satisfying but not memorable -Buñuelos de bacalao (Salt Cod Fritters) Bacalao: I've had these back in the US but these were intensely salty and was too much for this self-proclaimed salt addict. Perhaps the more salty then the more authentic it is...? -Mussels: the broth was WAY too salty, mussels seemed pretty fresh though -Patatas Bravas: soggy, not good at all, just no All-in-all, it was a good tapas experience but nothing really blew us away. This is by far the best tapas in Barcelona el Born! The Albondigas were so delicious. OMG the Aubergine with honey..divine. Pork loin with plum was also very good. Food here was okay enough but seemed kind of average compared to most other meals we've had in Barca. The pork in adobo sauce especially was kind of dried out and didn't have much flavor. Was expecting the cod fritters to have more cod in them, they were nearly all filler. Sangria is made with Fanta lemon mixed with wine. Not a bad meal, but I'm unlikely to return. read more

When in Barcelona, do as the Catalans do...and drink Vermouth. Drink it at Bormuth while eating Tapas. We stayed in Barcelona for 3 days and ate at Bormuth 2 times. FYI, the second time was only because most other places we had bookmarked were closed on Monday--a common thing in Spain. So instead of going to all the super touristy spots in the Born neighborhood, we returned to Bormuth to continue our conquest of the menu. What we had: Fried Eggplant Chips w/Honey (blown away by these), Fresh Lentil Salad (so refreshing and packed with flavor), Ensaladilla Rusa (because of course), Fried Calamari (oh my tender and perfect), Lomo in an Adobo Sauce (Lomo was a touch dry), & Albondigas (solid with plenty of sauce for bread dippage). And of course some drinks to wash it all down with. Definitely recommend the Vermouth at some point, either White or Red...your call. Everything was great here, including the service. We actually found everyone in Barcelona to be very friendly and helpful. read more

This place is a must-visit if you're in the born area. There is a lively crowd, it's constantly packed, and if you're lucky enough to get one of the outside seats, then you are at a double advantage because you can both people watch on the street & watch people inside the restaurant. I had the chorizo and it was incredible. I also had the sangria and vermouth and they were divine. Ps No shortage of men with manbuns (my favorite). The best part is that when I was telling the staff here that they had five stars on yelp, they had no idea what yelp was. read more

With the doors open the fresh air and lively street laughter fill the space with an uplifting and energized ora. Depending upon arrival there may be a short wait but worth waiting 10-15 minutes - we sat at a pub table immediately. We ordered the pork lion with plums, potatoes with spicy island sauce and liberian ham croquettes, along with a few beers. The potatoes were the unexpected front runner with this tapas order - soft baked potatoes that were quickly pan fried until lightly crisp and paired with the 'spicy' island sauce (a horseradish spice). The food was tasty. We started off with albondigas and cava. Both were fine. The restaurant was busy, so we ended up not seeing our waitress for a while after finishing that plate. We finally got to order patatas bravas and calamari. They were both delicious as well. As we were finishing, we were told that we had to move, which was very strange. They didn't ask if we wanted more food or if we were ready to leave, so we confusingly followed them to another table for 2 upstairs near the bar. Not wanting to leave after being introduced to another waitress, we ordered a round of beers. Halfway through those beers, the host came over and told us we had to leave in 10 minutes. I would have loved to sit nearby the window or overlooking the edge on the mezzanine level but made do with whatever seat we had since the place was packed. Found this spot in the Born area, and while we would have loved to sit outside, the food was worth surviving the temperature inside. The grilled red tuna and red peppers, grilled cuttlefish and croquettes with ham were scrumptious and well washed down by the red wine/ice. Prices were fantastic (3 of us with a bottle of wine for 50 euros) and the place is pretty popular. Despite a line up, they were quick at getting us in and very service focused Tip - if you go when it is warm, try to hold out for a seat outside (there are only two) or sit downstairs where it is cooler. read more

The location of Bormuth is removed from the busyness of the areas surrounding la rambla. It's a nice place to grab food and have a drink in the evening. The quality of the food is good. The cuttlefish and the pedron peppers were especially delicious. The atmosphere inside is quite lively with a mix of both tourists and locals. Meatballs were delicious!! Eggplant with honey is also great (tastes like buttermilk waffles with syrup). Chicken fingers were alright and patatas bravas were good (you can't mess those up). Lentil salad was a refreshing break from the fried foods. Got a free Bermouth via Yelp and it is interesting. Reminds me a little of apple cider vinegar, which makes sense considering how it's made. The restaurant did not have a wait but every table is consistently occupied. Very hipster feel- more like a cafe. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but my boyfriend strongly disliked it because he preferred a booth to the bar stool and high top table we sat at. They also allow smoking outside, and many people were rude in the fact that they smoked by the front door, causing the smoke to pour into the restaurant. Probably wouldn't be that noticeable if we weren't at the table beside the front door. Overall, good food and like able atmosphere (for some), but probably not worth a second visit. I travel a lot for work and then I look for special places. This is absolutely not to miss! A nice place with a very warm and cheerful atmosphere. The service is very efficient and the waiters are absolutely nice. There was some minor problem with the order but the work it out immediately. The food is of very good quality. We tasted the fried calamari (fresh fish and light fries), a roasted pepper with cheese (delicious). I also sponsor the chicken wings ( miles away from the US heavy fried types). Also the path to reach is nice through small roads full of nice shops and people hanging around. I'll come back surely next time in Barcelona. read more
