Wiener schnitzel. Super gross dry and nasty.

Food was awful. Like terribly awful. First time having wiener Schnitzel and probably last time I would eat it.

Go where the locals go is always my motto, so when someone told us this is the place in Berlin for Schnitzel and more, we made a reservation and visited on a recent Friday night. There is an upfront, more formal dining room and then in the back center is kind of an enclosed outdoor area. We chose to sat up front with all the "see and be seen" people. Note that they do not allow picture taking of people so stay focused on your food! We started with some very well poured drinks. My go to dirty martini and the old fashioned were spot on which hasn't been the case in other places in town. We started with the pumpkin soup which was perfect for this chilly evening. For appetizers we went with tuna tartar (this was an odd take on it and had quinoa in it which gave it an odd texture) but the duck fois gras was amazing! They specialize in meats and wild game and on this night- some in our group had "saddle of deer" and another had the venison leg. We also had the schnitzel which was the winner in my book along with some of their au gratin potatoes. Desert was also very tasty with the winner being the creme brulee over the chocolate tart. Service was good and by the time we left at 8:30 or 9- this place was hopping! Price for 4 of us including drinks, appetizers, soup, entree and dessert was E359 which was pretty good given the quality of the food and drink. So if you are looking for a place with good food, good service and where you might spy a celebrity- check out Borchardt.

We enjoyed our evening at Borchardt very much. Extremely busy place. We sat our in the covered patio. We had some white asparagus and then the schnitzel with cucumber salad. The order was HUGE and likely could have served two people. The service was very friendly and attentive.

The wiener schnitzel was fantastic and I'd definitely go back again for it! Really cool interior and ambiance too.

This spot was recommended to us from our hotel concierge as a good place to get traditional German food. It was a ways from our hotel but in the thick of things in the city center just off the Main Street near CheckPoint Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate. We had a reservation and were easily and quickly seated. Our waitress was somewhat standoffish but it seems like service is like that in Europe. She was efficient but didn't come around much. And we had to wait quite a bit to get her attention Bc she avoided eye contact like the plague. This spot was fairly crowded and had a decent selection on the menu of German fare and fish, meats, chicken. The usual. I chose the veal schnitzel with potato salad and cranberries. It was very good and a huge portion. This spot is not cheap - $30 a plate-ish.

In Berlin on business and with a colleague who has an love of schnitzel. When asking our German colleagues where we should go, several pointed us to Borchardt. It has a nostalgic feel with red velvet seating and tiled floors. A very simple menu but everything we ate was delicious. I'm on a diet so I went with a pork chop, vegetables and salad. I did manage to get a bite of the schnitzel and this one lived up to the hype. Super tender with the most amazing crust. Delicate and flaky. It is the best I've tasted and was tormented that I could order one for myself. Great place to eat for any occasion.

We came here with a large group. They are famous for schnitzels and that's what I ordered as well as others. Interesting our female local colleagues didn't. I guess modern German ladies shunt this traditional dish. Wine was a nice Riesling.

I was hungry and a friend and colleague based in Berlin suggested we go here. It's a Berlin establishment and apparently a place for celebrity spotting in town. To be honest I rarely ever go to places like this but, decided we would give it a try. It's a huge place with outdoor seating in an inner courtyard and tons of tables inside. It's an old building with very high decorative ceiling and posh dressed waiters. We did not have a reservation and the manager came by and told us to sit away from the outdoor area. We obviously did not belong here and throughout the evening there were tables free outside despite them telling us it was fully booked, I absolutely hate that. The attitude of the manager is what keeps me away from places like this. The menu is mostly fish and meat, not the best place for a vegetarian. It's fairly expensive with the cheapest steak starring at €30 and above. There are starters and fish dishes below that including their signature schnitzel and boulliabase and so on.i settled for the Irish entrecôte with sides and a cognac pepper sauce. To be honest it was nothing special. What amazed me was that the food arrived 5 minutes after we ordered it. The sides were flavorless and sauce was ok. The chocolate dessert on the other hand was divine. The service was very efficient and quick albeit the staff barely cracked a smile. It's certainly not my kind of place and I won't be back here again unless, someone invites me here. It's a nice enough place but I have no desire to be seen or to spot celebrities :-)

Our research suggested that this was a good place to eat and that they had exceptionally good Wiener Schnitzel. We decided to go for lunch because dinner was very busy. The service and ambiance were both very good. The food also was good though maybe not quite as good as we had hoped. The schnitzel was good, though maybe a little over hyped, and the blood sausage was also very good. The atmosphere is a bit snobby. Bit necessarily a bad thing but it is something to keep in mind. It is a popular place for celebrities and various we'll known people. They have a no picture policy which makes sense given it's a restaurant and these people are trying to eat.

We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

We tried to go to a nearby Greek place but they were full and kind of rude too. We walked over here and the place was empty at 6:30 pm so a bit worried. No need. The draft Pilsner was very excellent and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We got pork schnitzel and meatballs and it was really very tasty. Would recommend!

German food can be hard to find in Berlin…read more You can find German food at Prater Garten. Prater Garten has a double distinction. Outdoors, it has the oldest biergarten in Berlin. Indoors, it has an upscale German restaurant of distinction. The biergarten is not my style. If I am going to spend all day sitting outside drinking beer, I want the location to be outstandingly beautiful. Prater Garten's Plain Jane courtyard doesn't cut it. The indoor restaurant though is a different story. This is the traditional German restaurant of your dreams. The Gaststatte was the culinary peak experience of a month of serious Berlin eating. * * * Prater Gaststatte looks just the way you would expect a German restaurant to look. Dark woods. Wainscotting. Cream walls. The menu for both food and drink are limited, although they do change seasonally. This means that they make the same dishes over and over and over again. They have brought them to a high level of perfection. They only serve three beers at Prater Gaststatte, beers they brew themselves. I have no doubt those beers are wonderful. However, Prater Gaststatte had the Holy Grail of what I had come to Germany looking for Artisanal German Schnapps and Artisanal German Distilled Spirits. Bars in Berlin just don't carry those. Prater Gaststatte had a curated selection of six. (Actually a curated selection of five. The sixth item was a traditional Czech rarity.) Indiana Jones had just found his treasure. German Spirits are strong. Judiciousness limited my consumption to three. I went with a Nordhauser Doppelkorn, a Dirker Hasselnussgeist and a Stahl Birnenschnaps. Doppelkorn is a German alternative to vodka. It is 76 proof, just slightly weaker than a traditional vodka. It can be made from any of five different grains, but the rye-malt combo is the most common. The Nordhauser is an eminently superior alt-vodka - consummately smooth yet full of taste. I could have done a string of those happily. The Dirker and Stahl were both schnapps: hazelnut and pear respectively. I have never had a beverage like the hazelnut schnapps. It was not a liqueur. It was a strong brandy. Nothing sweet or cloying here. It was commanding like a brandy but smooth like the Doppelkorn. The hazelnut taste was overwhelming. It was as baritone and nutty as an Amaretto. An utterly unforgettable beverage. I stuck my neck out by going with a pear brandy. Most pear brandies are awful. I had had one and only one in my life that was good, the Finnish product Xante. Nothing is as good as Xante. Xante tastes like the canned pears served in heaven. But the Stahl Birenschnapps impressed. Nothing cloying. A real fresh pear taste. I was a very happy guy. * * * Note that although my beverages were outstanding, The food was even better. Given the quality of my distilled spirits, that last sentence is saying quite a lot. Never mind the strawberries I had for dessert. It is the beginning of strawberry season in Germany, And my meal had been so substantial that anything other than fruit would have been a crime. Spring is asparagus season in Germany. German restaurants will have one third to one half of all the dishes be asparagus dishes. I ate my fair share of mediocre asparagus dishes elsewhere in Berlin. The cream of asparagus soup at Prater Gaststatte is utterly to die for. Nothing tastes more like asparagus than that cream soup. And good cream soups are one of the fundamental pleasures of life. However, the headliner act which blew me away was their Brandenburger Pork Chop. A Brandenburger Pork Chop is a thick double-cut pork chop. The only way to get a "good" pork chop in the United States is to go to a steak house and pay steak house prices. American steak houses typically cheat by cooking it in apple juice so the pork chop gets caramelized. You eat well, but you are still covering up a ho-hum pork chop. This was a we-don't-have-to-hide-under-anything superlative pork chop. Yes there was about a tablespoon of red cabbage on top of the pork chop. It was like a maraschino cherry on top of a huge slab of meat. That pork chop had nothing to apologize for. It was a magnificent piece of meat. Easily a third of it was outer fat - outer fat that had been broiled to perfection. The pork chop fat was the star ballerina. The pork chop meat was the male dancer holding up that ballerina in a romantic pas-de-deux. It was the absolutely perfect pairing. (Anyone who uses that pork chop and ballet to make a joke about "Swine Lake" will be thrown off Yelp permanently.) Suffice it to say, I liked the meat course. Accompanying that was the potatoes au gratin of your dreams, And the green beans with bacon of your dreams. I never wanted to wake up. * * * If you come to Berlin, Come to Prater. Skip the Biergarten. Eat at the Restaurant. Deutscheland, Deutscheland Uber Alles!

Just noting that as of this review the hours are incorrect on Yelp so better check the website…read morebefore you go. It opens at noon, not 6pm on Saturdays. There are plenty of tables with communal seating. It wasn't super busy when I was there but admittedly the weather was pretty poor so I imagine it gets buzzier when the sun is out. I ordered a beer, some sauerkraut and a pretzel. Beer was nice, as was the food. Pretzel seemed stale upon initial inspection but was actually pretty good. They have mustard on the side. Overall, didn't wow me, but it was a nice stop and I'd recommend for someone wanting a chill biergarten to visit in Berlin.

The asparagus came with a great butter and breadcrumbs sauce which drizzled on the potatoes was amazing. As silly as it sounds the boiled potatoes were the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked through but not mushy and they kept their shape. Pretzel was excellent as was the pork schnitzel, pounded thin and perfectly fried. We finished with apple strudel with ice cream, which was just ok, maybe a 3 for me. The waitress was quite surly and we had to chase her down to order after sitting there for 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table. That was the only real downside, though I noticed other tables were getting served quickly, so maybe it's a one-off thing only. Restaurant is quite big with lots of seating, many beer options and nice clean bathrooms downstairs as well.

Walking in the door gives you the feeling of dining in a Bavarian beer hall where there are plenty of locals enjoying the atmosphere. For us tourists, photos are included for most of the menu selections. I tried their signature dish: knuckle with cabbage and a potato dumpling. Even the half portion was huge! The veal schnitzel and steak entrees were also delicious. My server spoke little English, so knowledge of German would be a plus if dining here. The restaurant seems to be known for their beer and has quite a selection, however, a smaller wine menu is also available. I would definitely recommend making a reservation or coming early. As my friends and I were leaving, the line for entry was out the door.
