Before you consider switching to Boost Mobile it is very important to know there network is NOT SUCURE! A few months back Boost Mobile transferred my number (aka via sim swap) to another cellular provider without my authorization. Once my phone stopped working the hacker took over my number now they were able to change passwords to my email accounts, banking, social media, eBay, PayPal because now can receive all my calls and text messages but worst of all was my Cryptocurrency account that held over $130.000 worth of Bitcoin.
Needless to say the entire amount of $130.000 was stolen all because Boost gave away my phone number and when I contacted Boost mobile asking why did you do this to me? There response: NOT OUR PROBLEM SORRY
You may ask how can this be done? My phone is protected with a pin or how do they they know who my carrier is?
I will only give a few examples as I don't want to make this review to long.
1: If the criminal has your phone number then they can find out who your provider is.
2: The criminal calls your provider and pretends to be you and tells them they lost there phone and need a replacement, if they have enough of your personal info your provider will send a replacement, especially the ones with overseas support.
3: Many companies use overseas support because of the cheap labor and the problem with that is these employees become corrupted and extorted by criminals forcing them to give up your private info.
4: One most popular way is the criminal goes on-line (for example lets use T-Mobile) and orders a new phone and tells them they want to bring along there number, which is really yours. Once they receive the phone and new sim card they just activate and transfer your number to them. I personally tried this with Boost to see how easy it was and they transferred my number no questions asked!
5: This is somewhat less common but when you go into a Boost mobile store for you new phone the sales rep will give you your new phone clone your sim card and later sell it or use it for there own, If they get 10 sim cards a day that can add up to a lot of money they can make. BTW people over 50 are targeted simply because the chance they have more money.
These are just some ways I know of but if you were to check on the Darkweb there are people selling hacked phones and sim cards everywhere.
As far as I researched Verizon is the only company that gives you the option: Do not sim swap my phone number! PERIOD!
Why cant all providers offer this service?
But for you own protection STAY AWAY FROM BOOST MOBILE! read more
