Really good food, generally quick and always polite service. Family owned and operated. The curry is delicious. My two favorites are the gang ped yang (roast duck, pineapple, red curry) and the gang kiew wan gai (green curry chicken with bamboo shoots, basil, and eggplant). The pad kee mao noodles are a favorite as well. There is a good variety of soups, salads, curries, noodle dishes, as well as seafood, pork, fowl, and vegetarian options. They are not afraid to burn your face off if you ask for your food extra hot so consider this prior to requesting exaggerated heat levels. We noticed that sometimes you seem to get a bit less with takeout then you would if you eat at the restaurant. I live very close so its not a problem to drive or take a walk down the the restaurant. Two potential negatives (the second more so than the first) but I really enjoy this place and strongly recommend it overall. read more

The food here is beyond fantastic as far as that goes; what I think is beyond incredible is the kindness of owner, Somporn (Noon) Meelarb. Mr. Meelarb called me late last week - around midnight, to say he found my best friend's cell phone was found. Now, that may seem strange, since he scrolled through all the contacts and saw mine was the number most used. When I came in to thank him, he told me the phone was found in the street, and not in his restaurant! Amazing! Turns out one of his workers, after closing, was walkig down Broad Street and saw my friend's phone right in the street! Think this is amazing? It is - but that's just the beginning... Yesterday, when I went in for lunch, Mr. Meelarb explained the whole scenario and THEN went on to tell me another story of a customer who lost his wallet in Boonsong the previous evening - 'Noon' DROVE all the way to Clifton to return this customer's wallet - at midnight, no less! When he arrived at the home, Mr. Meelarb continued, he realized it was much too late to ring the bell, so he drove back to Bloomfield, called that customer, and while I was sitting there, in walks that gratefulcustomer; we exchanged our wonderful stories that brought to our minds that decency and goodwill of humanity - in the form of Somporn Meelarb!! In conclusion, Boonsong Thai Cuisine is, in and of itself, a remarkable experience! Authentic and absolutely wonderful food, polite, attentive staff (server knew my order almost instantly, from my prior visits), and most importantly, the kindness and decency of the owner!!! Came here for dinner on a weeknight with friends-- I'm not sure if it's every day or weekdays, but there was a special one-page menu offering a noodle special. For $8.95 I could choose from a set list of noodles, meats and broth and decide if I wanted them as a noodle soup, just noodles, or noodles with soup on the side. While the portion was smaller than what I would have gotten ordering a noodle entree, the amount was just right. The tom yum broth was great- a good balance of hot and sour without being too much of either- and the few pieces of duck I got were okay. If I lived in this area this might be my go-to place as the flavors were consistent. read more

This new restaurant is plesant. I have been here twice this month and both times satisfied. The portions were just right and each time there was only one other table in the restaurant. Yesterday I ordered the Pad ma-kua yow or stir fried eggplant is was tasty the way my father would prepare it. Also have had the La na or noodles with chinese broccoli and brown sauce which was lovely. Only disappointment was the thai custard. It had a strange topping of crispy onions? It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth so my friend and I did our best to scrape it all off. It has had a weird consistency. read more

My husband and I went here for our date night, using YELP as the guide. So happy we did. We brought a bottle of wine with us which the staff promptly opened. We ordered the Thai dumplings as an appetizer. Delicious, full of flavor and clearly hand made. I had the Panang Curry with chicken. My husband ordered a seafood dish. Both were spicy but again full of flavor. We also ordered a shrimp pad Thai to try. Super yummy! The staff was pleasant and very careful to ask how spicy you want your food prepared. We are definitely going to eat here again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I reserve that rating for when I eat in Thailand. Enjoy the awesome restaurant. read more

I had family visiting and they wanted Thai for dinner. All the top Thai restaurants in town were booked, so we went to this one. Mediocre food. Lackluster service. I wouldn't go back. It's not awful. It's just OK. Don't order the Mee Grab. It's embarrassment on a plate. The curry sauce was decent. The other dishes were too dull to mention. I called to order for delivery. First phone call I made was to ask if they would deliver in Montclair. The lady cordially said yes. I called again a few minutes later, this time to place my order. The lady who answered the phone said, "ok" but also asked me to hold for a while... and a while on hold I was. I could hear them moving about right next to the telephone... talking... going about their business. It didn't sound like they were busy but there were people definitely near the telephone. They put me on hold and never got back to me. I was going to try this place for the first time. That right there will never make me order from this place... EVER!!! read more

This was one of the longest, most unsatisfying meals I've ever had. There were three of us last night. We started with trying to order water. Apparently, there is something going on with the water in Bloomfield, so we ordered bottled water. Fine. It was only downhill from there. The service was awful. It took nearly half an hour following our order before the soup arrived! And this was only after we asked for it. Entrees followed one at a time, waitstaff disappeared, or refused to make eye contact. The special request we made for our dessert wasn't honored. Then...the food. We are Thai food aficionados, and were delighted to try a new (to us) Thai restaurant. Oh no. The soups, which were mediocre at best, were the best part of the meal. Two of the three of us had entrees that simply weren't very good. A curry with tofu was hot (though we had requested mild) without having much flavor. The fried tilapia special may as well have been fish sticks in a bland brown sauce. (To be fair, one of us had a chicken Pad See Yew that he enjoyed; hence two stars above rather than one.) They even managed to mess up my favorite dessert: mango with sticky rice. We had asked for the coconut sauce on the side; the dish arrived with coconut sauce on the rice. The mango seemed canned, if that is even possible. (The sticky rice was pretty good, though.) If the food were good, the service issues would matter a little less. Unfortunately, this food was not worth the wait. And no apologies for the crappy service, either. Just avoidance. Really rude. We eat Thai food all the time, and have plenty of options here. We will not be coming back to Boonsong. read more

Ok so I tried this place hoping to find my new spot but NA. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Thai tea was good although small serving. I was bothered by the fact that I asked for mushroom rather than tofu and was told no as if it would be to hard to do. I know I'm not in Burger King but geez any way not a place a will make a point to come to but if I'm around the area hey. Will continue my quest for some great Thai food while hoping my lady opens her spot up again. read more

This was our go to Thai place in the area, no more. My order is always wrong which I used to just ignore and became accustomed to. But last night along with my order being incorrect as usual I also received two additional items I did not order. Hair in my pad Thai. :::vomit::: and hair in my Thai fried rice. I couldn't even think of finishing it. Usually I blame myself for hair but this wasn't my hair and clearly lost my appetite for this place. Last time we order from this joint. Really great Thai food! I had the Yum Ta lay seafood appetizer with calamari and shrimp in a wonderful lime infused dressing and the beef Gang Pa which was absolutely stunning! I asked for it spicy, and these guys give serious heat if you want it. I would recommend medium as a maximum heat level for most, but if you're serious heat junkie, go for it. read more

Service is good but... Food is disappointing, considering how it seems to be home-cooked traditional Thai. It's walkable distance to where I live. First time i went there, i ordered pad see-ew, which was overly sweet. I went there a 2nd time to give it another shot and ordered pad thai and it was overly sweet again. This place just puts too much sugar and msg in its food because that's what the food tastes like, a cheap take-out place. I've been to many Thai restaurants in and out of Bloomfield, but the other ones in Bloomfield are still better. However, I do like their Thai tea and Thai green tea. read more

We had ordered a fish dish . Just as we started to serve it, we noticed the fish was under cook. Immediately we informed the waitress about it and the dish was brought back to the kitchen. But afterwards, for a period of time there was no communication from the waitress/owner/hostess on whether whats happening. Finally, the waitress tells us that they are remaking the dish. Since they are remaking it from scratch, we understand that we would have to wait awhile. When the fish finally came out, only this time it was overcooked - the fish was over fried, making the dish not pleasurable to consume. Its upsetting that the dish cannot be cooked correctly the first or second time. Also throughout the ordeal, we never got a formal apology. read more

Tried Boonsong for the first time Saturday night. We had two couples and 3 kids total. The food was excellent. The fried calamari appetizer was very tender and didn't taste greasy; and we had another appetizer from the daily specials menu (some sort of shrimp toast, but much less greasy). The chicken satay (ordered for some of the kids) was nicely seasoned. Chicken in red curry was nicely spiced, as was the duck in red curry. The duck with honey, tamarind, cashews and pineapple was excellent, as was the chicken with cashew and pineapple. We also had an entree from the daily specials consisting of scallops, shrimp and chicken; all of which were excellent (large and tender scallops, large shrimp, nice sauce). Pad Thai for the table was also excellent, with large shrimp rather than the tiny shrimp a lot of restaurants use. Getting the spicy dishes medium still provided a fair amount of heat (unlike many asian restaurants which tone things down for Americans) and the more mild dishes still had a ton of flavor. The decor is pretty sparse, but the service was very pleasant and given how good the meal was, I can't wait to return. While I haven't tried every thai restaurant in the area, it was hands down the best of the bunch that I have been to. read more

YUM-O, totally an A+, I truly enjoyed the food from the appetizer to entree to dessert. Food is very light and airy and not greasy. Parking is a bit rough, but if you go to the next street go around the block and park on the side it is really not bad. Take out is quick and they are really organized in taking an order and making sure you get your food when estimated. They do deliver to Bloomfiled, Montclair and Upper Montclair (Clifton), I haven't had the delivery but it is a nice option. They do have 2 small tables outside which is actually nice on a cool night. Nothing fancy, and prices are really good. Two ppl can eat 2 apps, 2 entrees for $30. read more

The restaurant sold coupons via Restaurant.com. I bought one and went to the restaurant for dinner. When the bill came, the restaurant refused to honor their coupon/agreement. The situation was hell. You can't sell a coupon to bring people into your business, have them order and dine, and then not honor your agreement when the bill arrives. We refused to be hoodwinked and give in. Soon the police came and told the owner we can go to court and have the Judge decide. We said, fine. Then the owner tried to back down and wanted to settle, so eventually we did. This was a horrible experience, and it took a lot of our time, but right is right. These people aren't honorable. I will never return, and urge you never to go. I haven't even gotten into the quality of food and aesthetics of the restaurant, which was boring. Cross Boonsong in Bloomfield NJ off your list. read more

This quiet little spot is one of my favorites for thai food. I always get the kow pad phed with shrimp, in medium spiciness--it's perfect! My coworkers and I eat here often, always calling in ahead of time. The food is always ready for us. They start us off with a small salad. I don't usually eat salad, but the peanut sauce that its served with makes it so good. The lettuce, cucumbers, and tofu all come together wonderfully with the sauce. The main dish is served as a mound of rice with basil, peppers and shrimp. It comes with onions, so if you're not a fan tell them you don't want them (I am not a fan!). I like my food spicy...but the medium in this case is perfect. I've tried hot and it is really hot. The place is decently sized but there are usually only a few patrons, which is weird to me. The workers are very friendly and service is on point. I'd give it 5 stars if there were other choices on the menu that I liked. I've tried others but nothing stands out like the kow pad phed! read more
