Dryest food in Lexington. Can't eat the bun. If you think it looks over toasted, you're right. . Cooked every ounce of flavor out of the bratwurst. Assuming that there was at some point some moisture and flavor. The slaw was also flavorless. Not sure how that is possible either. The Boonefries were decent. If you like Shamricks Irish Nachos, you'll probably like these (but there's no beer cheese on these). They do have a nice bourbon selection. It has a lot of outdoor area to eat (picnic tables) and peoples pets were plentiful. If you're not weary of animals or cigarette smoke when you eat outdoors, you'll probably be ok with that atmosphere (neither bother me. But we did sit inside.) The service was fair enough...of course when the waitress saw I'd only managed a couple bites of the brat...she ignored the issue altogether. Never asked how the food was. Just gave us a check for 65$ without any further interaction (we ordered no alcohol, 4 sodas, 3 adult meals and a kids meal; the kids both said their hotdogs "tasted weird" but my wife said hers was fine. Stopped in for lunch and had a great experience. My wife had the chili dog, I had a corn dog, and we shared the Boone Fries. Let me say, the hotdogs they use are amazing! They have great flavor and are way better than your standard ballpark frank! I loved the corn dog and my wife enjoyed the chili dog as well. I liked that they use a split top style bun to hold all the toppings instead of a cheap ole standard hot dog bun which would just fall apart. The Boone fries were super tasty and huge! Every single hot dog combination on the menu is delicious and meticulously put together and every single flavor comes together to bring a delicious, satisfying meal. During the warmer months, the outside seating is fantastic- and bonus points- dogs are welcome out there! The French fries are amazing (the loaded ones of course) and everything is served hot. Don't waste your money! Place was dirty(waitresses sitting around doing nothing could have been cleaning) bathroom was disgusting! No hand towels either to dry your hands! The cost to portion size was laughable! I kept looking for a manager and there was not one that I saw. My wife ordered a deep fried bourbon ball for dessert and when it came we were in shock! It was the size of a bigger piece of gum you would get out of a gum ball machine. 2 hot dogs with a little bit of topping, onion rings and the bourbon ball plus tip was $44. This was our first time at Boone dogs!! We went on a nice Saturday night so it was extremely busy and there was a long wait. However, I absolutely will wait for any place that serves allergen friendly items like gluten free buns, vegan dressings etc. I haven't gotten to eat a hotdog I'm forever so this was huge. Yikes! This place gets awesome reviews, but I know that I will never be back. I'm with a table of 8 and the restaurant was relatively slow when we were there. The server was verging on rude and $60 for two hot dogs and two cocktails is on my "how did that happen to me to begin with" list. Maybe I went on a bad day for the restaurant, but I was under impressed and did not even enjoy the hotdog. Out of the 8 people at my table, not one person finished their meal or had something positive to say about the meal/drinks/service/atmosphere. "You want a to go box"....... Ummmmmm...... "no thanks." We went to Boonedogs this week. Brought the dog. Nice open space with picnic tables. Great space for the dog on a leash. Server had a way to walk to our outdoor table but was fast with a menu and specials. We both ordered Brats but with different fixings. Plus a house salad and a strongly recommended cheese:fries. Overall the food was just ok. Brats we're "grainy" and not the flavor we expected. Decent certainly, but we probably should have ordered a dog. Salad was fresh and quite good. Our friends gave this place a high mark, so, on a pretty day, we drove out to try for ourselves and looked forward to a good experience. We wanted to sit outside, a young lady took us there and put down our silverware and left. We sat there close to 15 min, no one came. A couple of men came in after us, got seated, their drink orders taken and brought, still no one came to our table. I went inside to ask if I should place the order inside myself and was told someone would come out. After close to 10 more min, someone came. She acted as if she didn't want to be there. So I am going to start this off by saying this place SHOULD have been a 5 star. The meats all seem to be lovingly home made. The sides seem pretty real deal as well. Shame though because someone in the kitchen can't cook without burning the shit out of everything. Got the wild sampler... boar and duck were both partially cremated and the protein turns to crap when you overcook it that long. Plus it is lean... either add some more fat or cook it with lower heat. Then we ordered some make your own dogs. The attention to detail was horrible. No cheese on one, the chili was awesome, yet 1/4 what one would expect. Stuff ordered ots was on the yet again cremated remains of what was lovingly made by hand. I think I'm more pissed for the guy that makes em by hand. You totally just destroyed art. Now I will say, change a setting or grind. Boar, duck and beef should not have all the same texture. Service was not great and needs some drastic help at efficiency. Start with the gal I always saw carrying a load of drinks or food out, always a load of emptys/ table clearings out. Fire the gals that bring one drink, one dog and nothing back. Please get some bussing buckets too... for the one working her ass off. Stop burning the shit out of everything! Buns, meat... hell at one point I had to check my beer... I was expecting a Rauchebier. The slaw, kraut and chow chow where like toddler portions... that stuff is cheap as hell... don't skimp. This is such a fun place to go when the weather is nice. They have a great outdoor seating situation. You can eat at the picnic tables, bring your dogs, and I even saw some family's have a picnic blanket next to their table for kids to play. The atmosphere is a 10/10. This is a laid back food joint so keep that in mind. Their deal is hotdogs. So that's what your going for, but they do up their game with fine bourbon choices, a full bar full of great drinks, cocktails, and local beers. They came in a small cardboard boat (which was fine) but for $12 a salad I expected something much bigger and better than what I got! I salute anybody opening a new restaurant in these times, we support you! We took the scenic drive on a beautiful 1st Sunday in spring to enjoy Boonedogs, loved it! Laid back, good food, great beer, a little odd. We pulled into a busy parking lot and saw a nice inviting grassy lawn area with wooden picnic tables and front porch with great rocking chairs. We entered the front door and were greeted by a hostess who really didn't offer any direction...we ask how would we order and she said someone outside would take our order. We headed outside and enjoyed the rockers but didn't witness anybody taking orders, so we went and sat at one of the picnic tables only to be told they were reserved! So we went back to the hostess for direction only to be told once again that someone would take our order outside...we tracked down the order taker, place an order for 2 corn dogs with banana pepper mustard and waffle fries and a Boone dog beer. We ask the order taker if we could sit at one of the picnic tables which she said "yes, we will bring out your order to you! In no time at all here came our order and it was delicious! The corn dog had a nice crispy beer batter (foot long) the mustard was on point, the waffle fries crispy and soft inside and their beer superior with a premium flavor. We enjoyed people and dog watching as well. Suggestion: Please greet and give folks an orientation to your wonderful restaurant. Love the casual atmosphere and would give 5 stars with a less casual hostess. Recommend and will be back, soon! read more
