We picked a good day for lunch at Boonedogs. Only a handful of people were there. Had it not been so chilly, we would have eaten outside, but the overcast sky sent us inside. I had The Kentucky Dog, a thoroughly delish dog, along with a cold Stella. My friend had The Ranch Dog. Other than the slaw being rather blah and in need of some zing, she enjoyed hers as well. We visited Boonedogs for lunch today. The waitress was very friendly and made recommendations about her favorite menu items. We placed an order for sodas (and if you ask nicely they will give you a half regular/half diet soda!) and my husband ordered a corn dog, bratwurst, and Boone fries (with beer cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream), and I ordered a build your own and a side of ranch slaw. The dogs were huge! My husband loved his brat and corn dog, and I liked my dog, too, but too many toppings made my bun fall apart. I didn't care for the slaw, but my husband liked it. He also shared his fries with me. That is true love! We loved the friendly atmosphere, as well as the portraits of the owners' dogs hanging on the wall. There are picnic tables outside which will get plenty of use when the weather warms up. so two's a charm I guess... my previous attempt at dining got noped in the worst possible way so after taking care of the mundanities of life Saturday morning I put in some wheel-time in search of hotdoggery in the commonwealth. pulled up on a yard full of people enjoying an evening out with friends or family: outdoors amusements include cornhole under the lights and fire pits and giant chess and fire pits and stuff like that. inside they's got some TVs turned down low and assorted tomfoolery which makes conversation easy. took a seat at the bar and after hydrating put in a dinner request. my dog shows up all melty cheddary and cheesey with onions on top of a chili covered hotdog nestled into a toasted split-top roll that maintained its composure and my dignity to the end. the pasture raised hotdog is superb as the base, the chili is mild-tempered and flavourful and plays well with the zippy but not burny spicy grits seated alongside. casey talked me into a pair of bourbon balls to finish; took a couple minutes before they arrived in their fancy cherry-drizzled glory and covered in powdered sugar. fruity draft ciderboy rounds it out nicely since I have get back home tonight for Sunday meeting in morning, if I have time next time I may get a libation and a taxi. read more

Here's the thing: incredibly cute spot, probably best outdoor area in Lexington, (tons of picnic tables) plus it's dog friendly, and a great joy ride getting out to it. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is going to be convincing your husband and friends that the hot dogs are worth $9.00. The way you're going to have to do it is to just say you're going to a bar - they've got tons of beer choices, and, a surprising number of fine bourbons. A full bar, for sure. Great customer service and great food! Went for the first time with hubby, and we ordered the Kentucky dog, corn dog, chili dog, and chorizo sausage. They accidentally gave us a second chili dog instead if the sausage, but before we even completely realized what happened, they had brought us out the chorizo sausage and let us keep the second chili dog. The hot dogs and buns were good quality and delicious. The Kentucky dog was my favorite, but I gave my husband the peppers since I don't like spicy food. The chili on the chili dog was a little tomato-y for my taste, but still good. There is indoor seating as well as plenty of outdoor seating (some of them are serviced by waiters and some are for to-go orders). I will definitely be coming back! read more

Where do I even begin?! Boonedogs = A++ First, the cocktails/beer selection is extensive and very reasonably priced. The local old fashioned was only $5. We ordered a couple different hot dogs, a corn dog and a single cheeseburger. Let's start with the buns. They are perfectly buttered, toasted and will not fall apart. That is everything when you are eating a dog loaded with toppings. The corn dog was hand battered and quite possibly the best corn dog I've ever tasted. It is served with a banana pepper mustard that was delicious! The burger was spot on and came fully dressed. The single burger was huge - I can't even imagine what the double is like. Everything here is done right and they don't skimp on the toppings. Waffle fries were perfectly fried and well seasoned! They are like chick fil a fries, but better! The ambience is wonderful! They have an adorable indoor seating area that has a garage feel with an open kitchen. It was fun to watch the cooks making all the burgers and dogs. I secretly also love that I can see that they are practicing safe kitchen practices and the grill/prep stations are very clean. Outside there is ample seating and a fire pit area. This will be a excellent place to hang out during the summer and enjoy a few cocktails. Also, a perfect family friendly place to spend the afternoon. This restaurant was phenomenal. I'm not from this area so when I saw the lights from this restaurant shining through the darkness enveloping the little country road, it felt like a lifesaver for my hungry stomach. Boonedogs had a very vibrant atmosphere: with its arrangement of liquors, the bar was an inviting and fascinating spot to sit at. I ordered a draft beer called Boone Beer. It was a crisp and refreshing lager which I would recommend to anyone looking for just the right amount of drinks. IMO you have to try their sausage sampler. It's a chief's choice item and it was turkey, wild boar, and another sausage for us. The sausages were very flavorful, cooked to the right doneness, and were quite juicy just waiting for you to devour. Visited here for the first time today. Great little hole in the wall that is well worth the visit. We had a great waitress and meal. One of their menu items was a foot long hotdogs. I asked my waitress if I could make half one way and the other half another. They very accommodating. Kentucky Dog is topped with chow chow, sport peppers, house pickles, tomato and "everything" seasoning. This is one tasty dog! Probably their best seller. Chili dog had great chili and onions. Waffle fries were cooked to perfection. Both were top quality beef hotdogs and we will definitely be back for more. My wife had the cheeseburger and she said it did not have a lot of flavor, but agreed that the hotdogs were excellent. Stopped in for lunch and had a great experience. My wife had the chili dog, I had a corn dog, and we shared the Boone Fries. Let me say, the hotdogs they use are amazing! They have great flavor and are way better than your standard ballpark frank! I loved the corn dog and my wife enjoyed the chili dog as well. I liked that they use a split top style bun to hold all the toppings instead of a cheap ole standard hot dog bun which would just fall apart. The Boone fries were super tasty and huge! Service is great, they have plenty of outdoor seating where you can bring your dog, just make sure they have a leash or chaos can ensue. B and I took the pups to Jacobson Park for some fun in the sun (more like MUD), but our hidden agenda was to get within striking distance of Boonedogs! Y'all. My friend Larry Bunch is KILLING IT out there. That parking lot has been full since opening day two weeks ago, and there's no end in sight! Seating options are abundant inside and out, and outside, well, it's kind of awesome. Picnic tables, rocking chairs, Adirondacks, fire pit, heated tent - you name it! We opted for the Fried Ky Bologna sandwich and Kentucky Dog. The former consists of two 1/2" THICK slices, so aside from being huge, I'll just say it's not like your mama made, but absolutely savory, and I couldn't not put it down. The latter was full of flavor and interestingly served between a folded piece of toast. I was curious about the wild game sausage sampler (a rotating selection) and the herbed chicken sausage. Next time! We both enjoyed the Boone Beer, a light lager made especially for the restaurant by Narragansett, and Boonie liked having a drink AND business named after him, too. Burnworth Design and Rebecca Burnworth knocked this project out of the park, and I loved the designs by The Giant Robot Co. so much that I had to snag a couple shirts. For Super Bowl tomorrow, Larry has planned some fun specials that pay homage to KC, the GOAT (his words, not mine, I'm not a Brady fan), and Gronk. Go check them out ASAP! read more

Food shows up 10 minutes later, no utensils provided to consume a salad they forgot the dressing on and the other entree came out wrong. Great food in a nice outdoor area! All the hot dogs I have tried have been great and are very filling. Service is always warm and welcoming and they are quick to refill your drink (although I wish they would just refill your current cup instead of bringing out so many plastic cups). The hot dog with all the ingredients (bacon, lettuce, Mayo, and tomato) just hit so hard and I couldn't get enough! Every bite had all of the ingredients and it just tasted out of this world. I was so excited to bring my family to eat here because I heard such great things. Unfortunately, we never got to try it. . . We waited 30 minutes without being able to order and those tables around us experienced similar issues. When I tried to get help from one of the managers and tell him that our waitress seemed super overwhelmed and that we hadn't even ordered and we had been there for 30 minutes (trying to be understanding because you never know the backstory) he seemed irritated that I even asked for help. I was really excited to take the drive to visit this place. I loved the idea of upscale dogs served in a Kentucky centric concept. Sadly, I left disappointed. First, I asked to be seated outside and was immediately confronted with the smell of cigarette smoker. The management should consider a smoke free establishment, especially with all the kids present. I sat at a table where I needed to order at the hostess stand. I ordered a plain dog with mustard, ketchup and tomato (50 cents extra for the tomato). Side of slaw and a side of waffle fries. The hotdog, which came hiding in two big slices of Texas toast was tasty. I had to ask for the tomatoes which reached my table long after my dog was consumed. The slaw was completely tasteless. That should be hard to do but somehow this place managed to do it. The fries were plentiful but not particularly hot. Where I was seated in the yard adjacent to the place all orders are delivered to your table packed as to go orders. This means lots of unnecessary packaging and waste. I do give the place big kudos for using compostable boxes and cutlery. Nice touch. My wife ordered the Caesar salad and a chicken sausage. She also added cucumber and croutons. They were out of chicken sausage and cucumbers. And the croutons weren't delivered with the order. We had to remind them they were missing. She ordered a hamburger patty with no bun as her protein. For $9 she got a skimpy burger that just didn't measure up. Finally, this place really needs to invest in a child play area. Lots of kids congregated next to a electrical outlet and played on the wooden fence. I was looking for an elevated, fun Kentucky experience that I was willing to pay more for. What I got was a staff with little or no customer service training, the items we wanted out of stock and the food we ordered wasn't what we got. If you want to charge for an upscale, locally sourced concept, you have no margin not to deliver on your brand. I was so looking forward to this being a new place for me to love. We stopped in early on a Friday night and hit it just in time to get the last open table. I tried the Hambassador dog with waffle fries and while it was a bit saltier than I anticipated (and I love country ham) it was really good. The buns are not standard hot dog buns. They are more like a buttery thick toast and they really make the hot dogs something special. We enjoyed our hot dogs and will definitely be back to try some other hot dogs.
