11.30.21 Yummers. Love me some wasabi

8.15.22 I used to really like and enjoy the food here. I used to frequent this place at least twice a week if not more, for close to a couple of years now. I used to get their spicy tuna rolls and the spicy salmon rolls most often. One of my favorites used to be the Spicy Maki Combo. It consists of a spicy tuna roll, a spicy salmon roll, and a spicy yellowtail roll. This was so good and filling. They used to be very consistent for the longest time but that had changed early this year. It didn't matter when I ordered, which day i ordered, or what time of day i ordered, the food was always the same, very good. The spicy salmon rolls and spicy tuna rolls had started to become a little different every other time i picked them up. Too many times they were actually very hot and not spicy. There is a difference. For my orders anyways they started being 50/50. One time great while the other not good and I would end up throwing food away. Not good. I asked and mentioned to them a couple of times about how different the rolls were. It didn't seem to bother them each time I mentioned it. One of them would say something to the other (not in English) them they would say ok, sorry and that's it. They never offered to remake any of my orders nor any discounts. So, needless to say I had to stop spending my money there. I will be missing the spicy rolls for the many times when they were good.

I invite you to try a solid and innovative take-out sushi restaurant. I stress the word take-out since the actual restaurant is very small and the atmosphere is lacking and simple. However if your focus is food only then there are a few booths to enjoy quality eat in sushi. My experience only reflects take out sushi. The menu is very extensive and the sushi is fresh and wonderfully prepared. The sushi is also reasonably priced, especially on their special rolls, when compared to other local sushi restaurants. We sampled a great selection of traditional roles stretching into their specialty rolls. My two recommendations are the IBM Roll, which was unique and flavorful. To my surprise a non fish roll pops into the mix, the Sweet Potato Tempura Roll. This roll was filling and offered a refreshing break from the many fish rolls we ordered. I recommend giving Bonsai Japanese Restaurant a try your next take adventure.

Our go-to sushi take out place. Always fresh. You can order online or over the phone, I always do pick up. Never had a bad roll. Our favorites are the Midnight sun, Memories of Japan, Godzilla, Sunset Boulevard, Spider Roll and IBM. Kani Su roll is very light and refreshing. The 4 seasons app is yummy. Can't go wrong with gyoza, seaweed salad or kani salad. They don't always label- so sometimes it can be confusing to distribute among friends. If you're ordering for multiple people, I recommend specifying which rolls you want packed together- otherwise, they randomly assemble the containers and your stuff will definitely get mixed with your other diners. I always call my order in, expect them to take a little longer than they quote. It's worth the wait.

Food was okay. A little disappointed at the fact that all the entrees were teriyaki based. I am biased because I don't care for teriyaki, but I do think offering more flavors for customers is important. The rolls were pretty decent sized. Kani Salad was well flavored. I was under the impression prior to going in that this place is more for take out rather than dinning in. Don't expect 5 star service. The waitress was behind the counter prepping food, so your server may be occupied when needing assistance.

Sashimi bento box: solid quality and value.

Nice to finally have a decent Japanese/sushi/sashimi option in the area. It's easy to miss this unassuming restaurant tucked in a strip mall at the corner of Farmington Ave. and Colkins Rd. The ambiance is quiet and peaceful. It's hard to find both quality and value in Japanese cuisine, but Bonsai achieves both: we had lunch for $37.47 for two (pre-gratuity). The tempura is authentic and light, but flavorful. The miso soup is solid. The bento boxes are an excellent value, ranging from $7.95 to $12.95. We had the sashimi bento, and the fish was fresh (if perhaps a tad too thickly sliced); you get a total of five compartments, including excellent California roll and shumai (although the latter clearly is not Japanese fare). The only limitations are that omakase is not an option (the waitress laughed when I asked about this) and shiso leaf was not served with the sashimi. They're conveniently open seven days a week.

Sushi pizza - comes with 4 pieces. So good!

This is my favorite sushi place and every time I go there it is never busy. There is a great variety of rolls and we order the sushi pizza every time we go!

Very overpriced for the quality. Baked Lobster Roll: True to its name, it had baked lobster... singular. There were maybe 2 or 3 at most; the roll was primarily topped with imitation crab and a couple pieces of baked scallop (which was supposed to be on the inside of every piece) as a smokescreen. The banana was also overpowering and made the entire roll taste extremely sweet. Trio Roll: Was supposed to have tobiko, but as you can see from my photos it was stingily mixed in with the rice. Some of the pieces even had less than 10 fish roe eggs on it.

Bento box: eels, California rolls, spicy tuna rolls and XX .

I drive pass this restaurant so many times. So I have a chance to stop by to have dinner with my son. I like the menus that they have pictures. So I ordered bento box. My son 2 and half year-old said the soup is so good. I can't wait to try some. Oh yes! It is so perfect. It was not too salty. Sushi is so tasty. I ordered one more bento box for taking home for buy husband. He said chicken Teriyaki is so tasty. We would definitely come back again. It is so greatly to find a nice tasty sushi around the house.

This is my go-to spot the food is always fresh and the service is fast. Very quiet environment and not busy around lunch time. It's a great place to go if you're looking for lunch in town and they have great happy hour deals

The husband-and-wife team runs a tight ship -- warm, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. We're usually able to walk in and grab a seat right away, and we're almost always greeted with hot green tea -- a simple touch that sets the tone. The space is quiet and intimate, with an understated, austere décor and seating for about 20-22 guests, which adds to the charm. I've been ordering the Waikiki Rainbow Roll for years -- it never disappoints. The Dragon and Rainbow rolls are superb, and the Birthday Roll (a tuna and avocado roll topped with salmon) is excellent. The Naruto Maki -- crab meat, shrimp, tuna, salmon, and masago wrapped in lettuce -- is fresh, light, and packed with flavor. My son loves the Kimchi Mandu and the spicy ramen (be warned -- it's truly spicy and a very generous portion!). Even the miso soup stands out as especially flavorful. Much of the menu reflects what I love most about sushi: simplicity done exceptionally well. The nigiri and sashimi are clean, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. We'll continue returning several times a week for the outstanding service, professionalism, and the simple goodness of the food. A true local gem.

I repeat told me to hurry up and order because the kitchen closes at three. Talk about pressure! So I ordered miso soup, a devil roll, and a Pepsi. So as I'm sitting in my booth, waiting for the food to be prepared, and I was keeping an eye on the sushi, chef, he sneezed. OK, I hope he wiped his hands and none of that crap went into the sushi roll he was making. Anyways, out came the soda and the miso soup. The miso soup was served in a plastic bowl about 3/4 of the way up. Also included was a plastic soup spoon. Looking around, this place was decent inside. Why would they be serving in plastic bowls with plastic utensils? This made no sense but OK. Out came the devil roll, and it looked like sushi, except it had this weird red spam like texture stuff on the top of it. I had no clue what it was. I ate it, but it was barely edible and seeing it was 14.95 , I wasn't about to send it back. So the two waitresses kept staring at me like saying hurry up hurry up hurry, hurry hurry And all my 65+ years on this earth I never felt so rushed.. These waitresses were not friendly.
