Great local coffee store. True, there's no other option in the town, but that doesn't stop Bonfire from making a pretty good latte and some tasty banana bread. The ambiance and setting is similar to what we have come to expect from hipster-ish coffee shops: nice seating area - for working solo or group. We hit Bonfire twice in two days on a three-day trip from Salt Lake City to Denver and back. It's that good. We took the 10-mile detour from I-70 just for the coffee, the best we've ever had. These folks know their beans (and their baked goods for that matter). Really delicious breakfast sandwiches and cookies, good panini for lunch. But go for the coffee. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Great downtown location, up to date interior and coffee offerings. The coffee - someone here likes their coffee - multiple roaster offerings, pour over options, good stuff. I had a central/south american blend with the Chemx pour over - good stuff, very smooth (which I like). The place boasts internet and a large back room for sitting, along with good bar and small table seating up front if you want to be seen in the window or check out the girls/guys who are at the register ordering. Visiting from Napa, CA, although I spent the first 30 years in Colorado. This home visit was not a disappointment including this great little coffee and bagel and pastry shop in Carbondale. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was that they fell quite behind on keeping the tables and chairs wiped up, so their were many places to sit but they had crumbs and food. The staff were extremely friendly, and the customer service was excellent. The cappuccino was delicious and created by an barista who blessed my foam with a gorgeous leaf. They also had Stevia, which was important to me. I had the "Ohm" bagel which was supposed to come with tomato and hummus, they were out of both, but made it with a sundried tomato spread and cream cheese and it was delicious!!! I think they should call it the "Ohm in the Sun" and sell it!! read more

Me and The Hubs were walking around Carbondale one day last fall and stopped in for an afternoon beverage. I think he had a cappuccino and I had one of the chai drinks. A great place to stop while driving through the Roaring Fork Valley. Great coffee and baked goods and a freindly staff. It's also an interesting example of the transformation taking place in Carbondale. Every time I drive through town, there are new restaurants and shops. It's nice to see another mountain town develop an economy that's growing. We go out of our way to stop in Carbondale while driving through this part of the state, and Bonfire is always one of the stops we make. read more

This place wins out on charm that's for sure. Friendly staff and the fact that they are the only non chain joint around for a cup of joe sure doesn't hurt either. The coffee was good. Not floor me good. But still better than a starbucks. It's the feel this place gives off that makes it a must stop if you're driving to or from Aspen. Like a lot of things in the area it's got this lived in old yet catchy loved feel about it. The old grain lift in it, the local art on the walls, the little cups and plates, the wooden tables and chairs. It's a great little joint. I was happy to stumble on it. read more

Oh my goodness. The coffee is amazing. As a former completion level Batista, I am very picky about coffee. Is the milk like velvet between my lips? Bonfire is a big yes for velvety goodness I have come to expect from competent coffee shops. They also have quite a bit to choose from as far as gluten free goes. 5 stars for an excellent latte Deduction of 1 star because I ordered a sandwich without cheese but, got it with cheese. I even repeated, "no cheese" twice while making the order. The staff was friendly, the barista takes pride in a beautiful presentation. Customers need to be heard, a business does not succeed without customers. I do my best to support local businesses in this small town but I just can't say they even have good coffee. I wanted to give them fewer stars because I can't see paying $2.75 for 12oz of bad coffee, but all I can speak to is their coffee. I'll make my own from now on. I was staying with family and they use fat free half and half. I needed some really good coffee with the real stuff, and so walked over to Bonfire. Great coffee, nice staff and tasty bagels. Had a very disappointing experience here today. We ordered iced coffees with room for cream - the cashier asked for iced coffees from a barista who was in a hurry to go on his break or something. The barista grabbed the plastic cups, sticking his fingers inside them, filled them to the brim (no room) and slammed them on the counter as he rushed out past us. He didn't even acknowledge that our drinks were ready - another barista had to do that for him. How rude! This left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

The bahkti chai is amazing. Their house chai is iffy. First time I had it, loved it. Not as spicy as the more gingery bahkti but very flavorful and delicious. Today however it was flavorless and bland. I asked the barista to add some flavor, but he added more milk too so it really didn't change anything. He told me that if I had the bahkti before, this was milder. Well yes, but I also had this just 2 days ago and today was way different. Will stick with the bahkti from now on. Wasn't too impressed with his lack of concern and I probably should have talked to the gal at the register who seemed more concerned about other customers' satisfaction but my sandwich was ready and the baby woke up. Best coffee shop in the Roaring Fork Valley (that I've found, anyway). Holy cow, everything here is exceptional. I recommend the chai - it's not just your mix of Oregon Chai and milk -this is some custom made, gingery flavored, cup of comfort, wonderfulness and spicy goodness. Amazing. The pastries all look amazing - I tried my husband's sticky bun and it was simply heaven. This place is always packed, so be prepared to wait a bit for your drinks and food (especially food), but it's totally worth it.
