Hadn't been to a Bonefish in quite some time. We had been shopping at UTC and stopped in about 4:30 for drinks and early dinner. When we arrived there were several people at the bar and the dining room was literally empty. We asked for a table for the two of us. I was shocked when they told us there would be a 15 min wait ( yet the dining room was empty) Utterly puzzling. After we were seated , things were better. After the visit to Sarasota Art Museum, I wanted to eat somewhere. So, I went to University Park area and saw the sign for Bonefish Grill. I found a parking spot very quickly, this a very busy area. Once seated, my waitress Laurie, came over for my drink order and offered me some bread with olive oil and pesto. I ordered the 3 course meal. I got the Caesar salad, Bourbon Chicken and Tempura Shrimp with broccoli and mashed potatoes, the dessert is brownie with fudge rum sauce with whipped cream. All of the food was so good. I took the dessert to go and half of my meal to go because I got full. Good location and afterwards, there is plenty of stores to shop or browse in. If I'm in the area, I would go go back. read more

Went to this Bonefish Grill with friends for a 4-Course Bourbon Pairing Dinner. We do these pairing's often and have gone to many different Bonefish locations. This was our first time at this location. This was located in Sarasota on Cooper Creek Blvd. This area is very crowded with many restaurants and stores!! In the winter it's very difficult to park with all the snowbirds. The restaurant was packed for this pairing. I believe it was the entire dining room participating in this dinner. At other pairings it's usually a separate section of the restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious. The service was excellent considering how crowded it was. We started with a Harvest Apple Salad served with an Apple Bourbon Martini. This Martini was my favorite of the night. Course 2 was Sea Scallops with Spinach and Mushroom Risotto served with a Bourbon Margarita. This was my least favorite cocktail. Course 3 was my absolute favorite. I actually go every year in the fall just for this dinner special!! It was Swordfish with Pumpkin Ravioli served with a Brown Sugar Manhattan. This along with the cocktail was delicious! Course 4 was Spiced Apple Cheesecake served with a Pumpkin Sidecar. The Pairing Dinners are a bit pricy but Bonefish is generous with their menu. At all of these pairings I've been to they also do raffles which is a fun way to win something. The raffles are free and when you arrive they give you a ticket. It is 's a fun night out with friends. We waited about 10 minutes before being greeted or offered drinks. Shortly after, the manager asked if we were "just here for drinks and apps or actually having dinner," which felt inappropriate--especially for a reserved table at 8 PM. Our checks were automatically separated without being asked, despite planning for one person to pay, and checks were handed out while asking about dessert, making us feel pushed out. We loved going to the Bonefish Grill in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where we used to live. My husband and I were thrilled to discover this location, which we feel is just as good as the one we left when we moved here. We love starting with the crusty bread and oils...... I have to be careful to not fill up on a bunch of bread, but it's SO good and I'm a bready. My husband and I split our meals more often than we don't.......I just don't eat much. We split an order of Bang Bang Shrimp (my husband's favorite) and the Cod Imperial. Both were very good, and was more than enough for the both of us. Since we were there on our anniversary we were given a free piece of cheese cake. We ended up taking the cheese cake home with us as we were quite full from our meal. We hadn't been to Bonefish in a while so we thought we'd give it a try. I think we both agreed afterwards we kind of wish we'd picked a different spot. I think it's telling when at dinner time, more than half the place was empty and only a handful of people at the bar, especially in the heart of the UTC area with the parking lots packed. Drinks were pretty good, Smoked Old Fashion was nice, and bread was fresh with oil and herbs, probably the highlight of the meal. Corn crab chowder was fair, but really didn't notice any crab. Oscar Black Cod sounded great, but honestly I didn't find any crab on top, and the cod was very small and extremely fishy tasting and the texture was off. At a seafood place that is a cardinal sin. Rice was dry and "Mexican street corn" was just whole kernel corn corn with some seasoning sprinkled on top. Was okay enough to eat without saying anything, but doubt we'll be back anytime soon. Can name a dozen places within a couple miles we can get great seafood, if that's what you're craving, you might want to shop around, we will. read more

Luckily, we came at a slow time, which worked out great, and we were seated quickly. The drinks were fine, but we had to wait a while after we were seated for a server. There wasn't any music playing, but it was fine because it was an intimate setting for conversation. Our server was nice, and we even had a sub server until our server was able to get to our table. One of the forks had dried crusty stuff on it, but thankfully, the napkin set included another fork. The salad we ordered had brown and wilted lettuce, so we didn't eat much of it as it wasn't appealing at all. The meat in the entree dishes was a decent size, but the mashed potato sides were small portions. Overall, we like Bonefish Grill as a restaurant to eat out at. We like the vibe and menu. Excellent service, but need food makeover. We came here for a late dinner because we were returning to Lido Beach from Orlando. We ordered a salad with grilled shrimp and beef ginger potstickers for appetizers. I loved the grilled shrimp in the salad. The potstickers were ok. Then I ordered rainbow trout for an entree, and Hubby got a pork chop. I was not too fond of the trout. The taste was quite good, but I thought it was overcooked. Trout should have a nice, soft texture. It was served with rice, a side of broccoli, and the sauce of my choice, so I picked mango salsa. We had a good waiter, Zef. Hubby liked his dish. He said it was the best he ever had. Really? Since the name is Bonefish Grill, I expected the fish to be outstanding, but it was an average fish dish. The restaurant's interior and exterior were fantastic. They did a great job. The restaurant looks tempting and inviting until you try the fish, lol. Longtime fan of Bonefish and my wife decided she wanted Bang Bang Shrimp for her birthday. We ordered it as an appetizer and was very satisfied. We each ordered a meal, too, but weren't able to finish our meals so we have something to look forward to later. Our server was fantastic and the restaurant was quiet with a comfortable ambiance. He did say when we sat down that this location is much better than the Bradenton location. It wasn't even close. The Bradenton location has always been spot on. I'll never go back to that location. IOO, the appetizers were just average tasting -- a chicken bang bang and a much too fishy flavored salmon spread -- and the "special drink" they were promoting was overly sweet and didn't taste as if it had much alcohol in it! We also felt that the appetizers were too expensive for what was served. And, while the waiter was congenial and helpful, we felt he was just too chatty. I came here to have lunch with my work crew on a Tuesday afternoon having stopped during a road trip to a work retreat in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. SEATING/TIME: Since it was shortly after noon on a weekday, there were minimal people at the restaurant and the weather was nice so we ended up sitting outside. There is plenty of seating options for both inside and outside which is great! FOOD: I ended up ordering the bang bang shrimp ( as my meal) as well as a side Caesar salad. I had the shrimp and scallop linguini, which didn't have a lot of flavor, only 5 shrimp and the smallest scallops I've ever scrne in my life. I ended up placing the breaks dipping sauce into my pasta, which had more flavor than the pasta sauce. I guess I used to like Bonefish more. Either my tastes have gotten more refined or they have continued to go down hill. Obviously, each location is different and this one is especially busy but I've not had a really good meal (not asking for outstanding) at a Bonefish in a long time. To be honest, my main reason for going there recently was because I was craving their Tropical Heat Martini. It's sweet and spicy all at the same time. I really need to learn how to make them myself. I ordered my fish piccata style with shrimp and green beans. The fish was slightly over cooked and there was almost no additional sauce on the plate. The whole thing was somewhat dry and not very tasty. The miniscule amount of sauce that was on it tasted fairly good but I couldn't enjoy it due to the limited serving. I may end up becoming an Ex Bonefish customer, especially if I can learn how to make the Tropical Heat Martini. read more
