Perfect find since I just moved to Hoboken and didn't want to shlep into brooklyn to get my hair done. They usually are able to accommodate you within a day notice, but when you book either a cut or color you have to book a blow out separately which I thought was weird but now that I know it's the policy I just get used to making bbt the appointments. All of the stylists are very nice and it's a fun atmosphere. The shampoo chair reclines and gives you a nice massage when you're getting your hair washed very unique touch! I'm there about once a month and haven't had a bad experience yet. read more

I've been looking for a new hair salon since moving to the area a few years ago. I haven't found anything I liked and was bouncing from salon to salon in Hoboken. I decided to try this place out after reading the reviews on Yelp. I am very happy I did! Marylou was excellent. She took the time to discuss with me what I wanted, explained in detail her thought process for my haircut and why she would do that way. In the end, I ended up with a gorgeous haircut that I love and a new salon I will return to! The staff are all very attentive and friendly. Today I visited Dena for color and Ashley for my haircut and WOW! Both are equally amazing and talented in their trade! Both ladies consulted with me to go over what I was looking for, discussed my hair/texture etc., then onto the color! That was unbelievable! What a lovely group of people! My stylist of 13 years moved recently. I have walked into several salons in Hoboken since then and I've found the same thing several times: The stylists or whomever look up from their phones, make eye contact, and look back down at their phones. Asking whether they have time for a walk-in, the answer from the receptionist is "no" and it's left there. Other salons have given me decent hair cuts, but their customer service is simply lacking. Toni & Guy was a completely different experience. The receptionist was warm and welcoming, and said that they could accommodate me as a walk-in if I were willing to wait about 20 minutes. I was, and I am so glad I did. She offered me a choice of drinks and was very pleasant. The stylist, Ashley, was fantastic - she talked with me about what I wanted, and made an appropriate recommendation for a style. The cut looks great. Vivianna, who washed my hair, was friendly and was very gentle with the water and the shampoo (different from the sloppy and rough treatment I've sometimes experienced elsewhere). A few other stylists that passed by my chair checked to see if I needed a refreshment or any other assistance. Everyone there seemed vested in making sure I was comfortable and my needs were being met. It's pricey, but the service is unparalleled. It's a model for customer service. Please keep it up. I was in NYC two weeks ago and decided to get my hair done. I had heard really good things about Toni&Guy Maxwell Place, so I took the ferry to Hoboken to treat myself. I wasn't set on what I wanted - all I knew was a change was needed. I spoke with Megan and Chelle and they came up with great ideas for my colour and cut. (Note: I hadn't dyed my hair in four years, so it was completely natural, and my hair is fine, straight and was a few inches past my shoulders) Chelle gave me a beautiful honey blond ombré that blends perfectly into my natural brown hair. The blond didn't wash me out at all, and I love going into autumn with a sunny hue. Megan then cut my fine, boring hair into a fresh boxy bob. It totally changed my look - Megan knew exactly what would frame my round face perfectly! After the initial cut, she went to town texturizing my hair and added so much volume - I didn't even know it was possible! Megan then spent some extra time showing me different ways to style my hair. Overall, I felt Toni&Guy Maxwell Place was a great salon. I had a wonderful experience and I truly felt that Megan and Chelle listened to me. Great staff, single process color and blow dry isn't cheap but reasonable. I like how open everyone and everything is in an open space. The treatments are little too quick. I wish they leave the product in longer, felt rushed but still had a good blow dry. Jade & Brooke are great at just giving you what you want and not selling you anything you don't need. Kelsey came as a recommendation when looking for an expert colorist. She truly is an artist. We're in the process of lightening my naturally brunette hair (that is going gray). She is so knowledgeable about color and technique. She literally explained the process to me step by step. I'm extremely happy with the results so far (we are two sessions in). I would highly recommend Kelsey for anyone in need of a colorist. Also, Ali has done my blowout both times I've been to the salon and is amazing! I mentioned to her today that this is the first time in my life I've left a salon without having to go home and fix the blowout myself. Ashley (who recently transferred from Toni and Guy in Texas) saved my hair! Last week I got my hair cut at a supposedly great salon in Manhattan (*huge eye roll and -$160 later*) and the stylist there butchered my hair with the thinning shears. My bottom layer was thinned out too much resulting in a scraggly, odd, uneven mess. It was a total nightmare. So, I called Toni and Guy the next morning to get it fixed and was referred to Ashley by the woman at the front desk. I can't tell you how safe I felt in her hands and at this salon! Especially after going through hair hell the night before. She listened, assured me I had enough hair to work with (I wasn't sure it was fixable) and she continued to give me the best haircut I've had in YEARS. After several years with my Salon, my daughter recommended this salon. Her hair came out beautiful. My first visit was one in which I was so happy with. Still in tears and it's been a month since I got my haircut done with Rachel. All I asked her for was a trim and cornered bangs so I can do a partition on the side or center. And I calmly sat in the chair until she was done. I noticed misalignment of my bangs when centered after she was done cutting my hair, and told her to make it of equal lengths on both sides. She goes, "we will have to cut it short in order to do that. Are you ok with that?" To my understanding, she was referring to shortening one of the bangs to make it even on both sides. Without any further explanation, she quickly chopped off my entire first layer extremely short. Now what I am left with, is the rest of my layers really long and not blended with my shorter layers sitting on top my head. Worst hair cut ever for wavy hair!! Perhaps, she took my feedback to her ass and as a result left me with tears for the entire summer. I am having hard time managing my hair everyday. I tie my hair into a pony tail or a bun every single day. The hair baths that used to excite me and bring my flawless voluminous waves out, that volume no longer exist. With my uneven hair, my confidence has shattered. I have never written a bad review for anyone but this one I had to because I don't want anyone else suffer the way I am right now :'( read more

Definitely one of the worst haircut I had in my life, I am so angry for the fact that I even paid for it and I paid 120 (tip still to add)!!! I sat down and said "make me sexy and edgy".... my hairdresser at the end of the work said "here you are, I made you choppy because this is a style I like a lot!". Would you like pls to remind me when did I ask for "choppy"?! I actually thought that a hairdresser should do a cut based on what the client wants and what fits better for her, not what the hairdresser likes the most!!! Totally unprofessional. I look at me in the mirror and I do not know how to adjust my hair to make it nicer, I clearly said I didn't want an old woman effect and this is exactly what I had: a classic, boring and badly executed simple boring boring boring cut. Toni&Guy is a quality salon that trains their employees to be on the cutting edge of hair fashion. I'm a suburban girl - and absolutely hate driving to Hoboken. The traffic, the lack of parking....ugh....but when my hair dresser of several years went to work at Toni&Guy, I knew I was going to have to give them a chance. I thought she cut hair great before -- but after the mandatory training for an additional year at Toni&Guy, I got a hair awakening.... I've had curly hair that has bothered me my whole life. Never know what to do with it, never know how to style it; and then I get this short hair cut at Toni&Guy and suddenly I feel more like myself than I ever have before. I don't have to fight my curly hair anymore -- I now have a haircut that WORKS with the style and texture of my hair. I nearly cried. Yes, Toni&Guy is pricey. But there is a lot to be said for a woman who feels comfortable in her own skin -- and a great haircut can assist with that. Go see Megan. Get a great haircut. I also recommend Eden for cuts and Kelly for color. There's a parking garage a block away, so for all you other suburban girls -- $10 to park for an unlimited amount of time with the peace of mind that no one is scratching up your vehicle on the road while you get pampered. The only reason my review isn't five stars is that there is no parking validation (that would be a nice touch considering you are paying a premium to get your hair done). Your old salon will be a distant memory after you come here - and so will that last bad haircut. read more

Before I get into the "bad" of what happened to me at Toni & Guy, I want to say the entire staff was kind and considerate of my problems and they did refund my money. So what happened to my hair was clearly a problem. My haircut by an apprentice was excellent. However. I am a dark blonde with grey. For the last 4-5 months I have been getting my hair dyed red. However, the red I've been getting has been too deep for my skin tone and all I want is a more golden-y strawberry color.. I know how hard red is to get right, so I thought I'd find a high end salon and go to one of their top stylists: big huge mistake & I should have known when I had my consultation and the sweet and lovely colorist had no clue what I was asking and really was struggling. Showing her photos of Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman (when her hair is red) did not seem to ring any bells that I what I want is strawberry blonde that looks totally natural. She pulled out other photos from her book that confused me - and it was like we were speaking two completely different languages... Please note. My roots were done about two weeks ago & were a much brighter red than the rest of my hair. So there was a huge desire to tone that red down and blend all of the color together. What she did was add a ton of blonde highlights and added a ton of red to the roots.... So after 3 plus hours my result was blonde hair with pinkish red roots. Hideous, I cried. She realized she didn't do it properly and offered to fix it - by adding red lowlights. Adding another 2 hours to the visit.. While it was an "improvement" the 5 plus hours I was in that chair resulted in zebra stripes at my roots that were a different color from the rest of my hair., splotchy off colors and basically worse than when I walked in the salon. I was devastated. I called the salon the very next day to say "this is still a mess" they offered another correction - and I requested a new stylist- but- she wasn't available for a few days and I asked if the new person doing my color could call me. For some reason the receptionist misunderstood me and had the initial colorist call me... That was horrible because I had no clue why she was calling me and I thought she was calling to apologize or force herself back to do more damage to my hair.... But she just thought I wanted her to call me. No, I wanted the new stylist to call me so I knew we were on the exact same page, because clearly the last stylist was not on the same page. Finally I called the manager and cried about the huge disaster. Sadly no one at Toni & Guy could admit this was an enormous mistake made by a top dollar educator. Instead it was my awful communication skills that was the problem. She just wasn't listening. Did what she wanted. Had no clue how to make my hair strawberry blonde. End of story. Because there was no resolve - the manager KINDLY refunded my money and I immediately went back to my old salon, who totally fixed the botched mess. For far less money. read more

With so many to choose from in JC and Hoboken, here is why you should choose Toni&Guy: 1. They are experienced with ALL hair types, textures, and colors. It doesn't matter whether you are blonde (like I am!), brunette, have black hair, red hair, blue hair, curly, coarse, fine, thin, short, long, medium, asian, african american, ANYTHING hair: they will know how to cut, style, dye, and treat it. 2. They have convenient hours (open late, and on Mondays (a rarity!) 3. The location and interior is fabulous. 4. The experience is comfortable start to finish. Drinks, magazines, a divine scalp massage.... 5. They take the time to consult with you on exactly what you want. Theres even an iPad stocked with hundreds of photos for you to scroll through if you're looking for inspiration. They slowly and considerately analyze exactly how your hair functions and adjust accordingly . 6. Everyone is at the top of their game. It's clear that they are all perfectionists and are up on the latest techniques. They are all very technically skilled. 7. The styling is fantastic. Gone are the days of leaving the hair salon to immediately go home and style your hair the way you like it. When Toni&Guy's blowout specialists get done with you you'll be making plans for the evening so you can show off your new hair. Yes, you can find places where you'll get a cheaper cut & color. But this is your hair! It should be radiant, smooth, easy-to-style, and gorgeous. Don't risk it to anyone else. My two warnings: 1. They are really in love with pushing product (what salon isn't?) 2. My car got towed while I was inside. Don't park where it says "15 minute loading zone." Yeah, they mean it..... :/ read more

My ombre (aka worst mistake of my life) was starting to fade into a rustic, Tuscan sunset that was not at all desirable so I made a quickie appointment to Toni&Guy per my friend's suggestion. Really easy to make an appointment, friendly staff. I was able to come in that same week. The hairdresser helped me find the color I wanted to tone my ombre down to and got to work. Afterwards, it was a little redder than I imagined but whatevs, I did say "copper". Two days later, it was completely washed out of my hair. There goes $60+ dollars. Damn read more

This place is expensive, but it is definitely worth it! I will never go to another place again for my hair! Rachel cut my hair. She listened to what I wanted and added great suggestions. I was nervous since they advertise their edgier cuts that they would not be able to execute a more normal look, but she did, with flying colors. I have never had a more flattering hair cut, and it fits my style as well. Alex colored my hair with highlights. It looks incredibly natural and perfectly enhances the cut Rachel gave me. When I arrived they offered me a cappuccino, tea, water, and lemonade. While the conditioner was in my hair instead of staring up at the ceiling I received a relaxing hand massage. The bathrooms are chic as well. Bottom line: It is well worth the price and I am very happy with the services I received! read more
