My hair is DESTROYED. I asked for blonde hair. I went TWICE. And this is still brown, and totally ruined by the colorist here. I don't know how I could have been more clear that I wanted blonde hair. My hair is falling out in clumps. DO NOT GO HERE FOR COLOR! The colorist was very nice so I won't leave the name but it is going to take years for me to recover from this. I had a disappointing experience here after booking a color service at what is marketed as a high-end salon. I came in with a clear reference photo for a soft, lived-in balayage with a blended root melt. Instead, the stylist used foils throughout my entire head and lifted the highlights directly to the root with no blending or root melt. There are a ton of blotches left all over my head where I left the salon with my hair looking worse than my arrival. The result looks very stripey, especially at the part line and around the face, and is quite different from the soft, dimensional balayage I requested. There was no gradual transition from root to blonde like in the inspiration photo I showed during the consultation. I understand that color results can vary slightly, but this felt more like a completely different technique than what I asked for. For a salon that positions itself as high-end, I expected more attention to blending and placement. Unfortunately, I'm now going to need to have the color corrected elsewhere. I'm sharing this feedback so others seeking a lived-in balayage style know to be very clear about the technique used during their appointment which I thought I did this as I used to be a stylist myself but I still ended up with the worst hair color results I have ever had. I reached out to customer service and since this is an independent salon they could not help me. I don't feel comfortable having these people fix my hair. read more

I really hate to leave a 1 star review, but I had a traumatizing color experience here and don't want anyone else to go through what I did. I came here in the summer for a cut and highlights and rebooked with the same people. Alex, who did my haircut, is awesome and deserves 5 stars! However, the color Sasha did on my hair was a complete disaster. I showed a picture, which was a more all over color than what I currently had. It was a little bit darker than what I came in with, but not a lot. I ended up with jet black hair. I came in two days later for it to be fixed. Sasha wasn't available so I went with a different colorist. I ended up with RED hair! And they said there was nothing they could do to fix it. I completely lost faith and trust in these colorists here, so I had to go to another salon to have it fixed. The colorist there got it to be exactly what I wanted, with no issue at all. I would avoid this salon for color at all costs. After reading the reviews, I see I am not the first to have this issue with the colorists here and Sasha in particular. It pains me to be negative, but I hope that my review will make sure no one else goes through this kind of stress with have a bad color job. read more

I have been to Bumble and Bumble Meatpacking a few times over the past year and have had a very good experience. The two staff members at the front desk deserve an extra shout-out, as they go out of their way to be courteous, helpful and friendly (even in an instance when I mixed up an appointment time). I got my hair cut a few times by Nison and could not recommend him more. He listens to what I want and he has a great eye. I have also found his suggestions to be helpful and spot-on. The haircuts turned out exactly the way I wanted, and they were precise and perfectly executed each time. They grow out really well, too. It's nice to be able to trust that I'll walk out looking good. I'll definitely continue to go back and I recommend the salon and Nison in particular. read more

Yikes - beware of who you get when choosing "first available" on website. Sasha was my colorist when I went in to have my roots done - I came in with red hair and left a brunette - not by choice. After I was rinsed I was pointed in the direction of a corner of the studio to dry my own hair (didn't want pay $80 xtra for a blowout). Never saw Sasha again after she sent me for a rinse. The assistant forgot I existed after she put a towel on my shoulders. I didn't and still do not like the color of my hair. It's way darker than when I came in and nothing like I asked for. When I went to check out I was told it would be $400 - for a single process and "highlights" (there were no highlights). After complaining I ended up paying $170 for a crappy job and crappier service. I won't be going back to B&B - read more

They have a beautiful space on the 8th floor with gorgeous views. It's huge, airy, and well decorated with a modern, industrial feel. There is plenty of space in the waiting area, with free cappuccino and cookies. I'm gonna stop by every day until they throw me out. Overpriced services. $95 for a gloss (no blow-out). I asked for my highlighted hair to get toned down 1-2 shades, remove the brassiness. Walked out with my hair basically black. The colorist had to tone my hair 3 times!! The first 2 were not "right". When she realized how dark my hair turned out, she said I looked better with darker hair?!? And I could come back to lighten if I doesn't fade fast enough. No thanks, not after sitting with my head in the sink for 50 mins for 3 try's to do an easy gloss job. Go to Fox & Jane instead for your coloring needs. I've gone to 3 different locations, different stylist/colorist there--always left happy. And only $79 for gloss + blow-out. read more

I go for cuts here with Blake and I don't think I'd ever want to do it any other way. She is so incredibly talented, professional and fun. My hair looks great when I get out of the salon, but ALSO when I style it myself and EVEN when I literally don't do anything to it. That's what it means to have a good haircut in my opinion. There's a reason the prices at Bumble and Bumble are what they are. They are simply the best. I have seen Nison twice now, and I swear I have never had a better haircut. The first time he cut my hair I was sweating bullets as he didn't use scissors once, but instead cut the whole thing with a razor. I had a bad experience with a razor before, but kept my mouth shut and I'm so glad I did. It seriously came out stunning both times. I feel like he is really good at understanding exactly what I want, and then executing it in a very very high quality manner. Although the staff was nice, the cut looks like my toddler did it himself. It's choppy, uneven, inches shorter than we agreed upon and basically a mullet made with craft scissors. I was part of the whole Model U project. Basically, you go on their website, click on the Model U project, fill in the stats about your hair, and then they call you in for a consultation. After, you've gone to one, they send you emails whenever they have available appointments and you just email them back with the one you can make it to. I've tried almost all the free services that they offer here. The cuts aren't bad, if you like the long laired with bangs look ( see profile pic ) or a bob. Also, once or twice a month, they send me emails asking me to come in either for a hair treatment (this was my favorite because you actually get the whole contents of one of their "miracle" deep conditioning treatments used on your hair, it's basically like a free expensive hairwash), or hair styling ( french twists, classic bun, long layered look, etc). When you come in for hairstyling, they also give you a 20 dollar credit towards any B&B hair products, so that's kind of cool. The reason I give it a 4? 1) Apptments are only available on weekdays, usually @ 12:30 or 2 pm. 2) The whole process takes about 3 - 4 hours, u have to wait for a training class, then you have to wait for the instructor to inspect it, then you get it cut again, then wait for inspection. 3) You might not get someone who has worked with your type of hair. They invite hairstylists from all over the US who own salons that only sell B&B, ( not necessarily a B&B salon ), and they try to teach them their techniques to go with the styling products. The hair cut was nice, but the way she styled it, "NUH UH!!" 4) Sometimes, I feel pressured to buy products but I guess that's how they make money 5) If you are a guy, you have to grow @ least 4 inches of hair read more

Listen, I'm my mind I have hair like Adrian Grenier. I grew up in Brooklyn and all the barbers styled everyone with the same blowed back style which I call it the John Gotti Jr. look. Its the only style I've known, Sometimes I go for the Vinnie Barbarino which is a little longer in the back. So I decided enough is enough. I want something different. Something to rock in September at the San Gennaro feast. Walking into this place to me felt like the Blade Runner high rise. Your on the 8th floor but you feel like your on the 110 floor. You can see lower Manhattan and whatever is happening below is unimportant. Up here is like being in a magical place. So I walk in and the shampoo girl sits me down. I'm given a black robe and I feel like a Ninja assassin. I see this drop dead gorgeous woman getting a blow out. I walk up to her and say you look fantastic with your new hair style! She smiles at me and gives me a full mouth on kiss. J/K! So, Nissan comes over and I tell him I want a new look, Brooklyn is no longer in the house. My man takes out a razor and starts cutting my hair. With a friggin razor! He's looking at different angles, checking again, cutting, looking, slicing. Then I'm asked if I would like a Pellegrino with a twist? Why of course my love! After my barber man is done, I ask how should I style it every morning? He takes me BACK to the shampoo area and washes it?! Then we towel dry it and he shows me the deal. How cool is that? After all is said and done, My hair was cut too short for my taste. Lets see what happens in the coming weeks. If it grows out sexy then I'll bring this up to five stars. I love NYC so much! read more

Plus I must say that the meat packing location is 100x better then the midtown. I will be back and look forward to trying a colorist there. Wish me luck! The stylists here are true professionals. They go through an intense training program before they can work there and it shows! A stylist usually only does their one craft, like only cuts or only color, so I go to two different people when I go in. I go to Tiffani for my cuts and Amelia for my color. I trust them both with everything. They always truly understand my vision and do an amazing job. This place is quite expensive, but it's because of how expertly trained all the stylists are! It also has an awesome atmosphere. Upstairs there is a coffee and snack bar while you wait and a great lounge area. If you can afford it, this is the place to go. read more

Bumble and Bumble is fine for a haircut, but if you're getting color- SKIP IT. It's such a scam. You'll pay high end prices for not a high end experience. I went in for a blonde balayage ($418 plus I tipped 18%, so a $500 appt) I took before and after photos and my hair hardly looked any different. I have no idea what I paid for. I literally had to go to another salon to get it fixed. For $500 you'd expect them to be friendly, offer you water, give a scalp massage or something LOL. That's not the vibe here. It's a very commercial, low quality experience. And PSA: they don't even blow dry your hair for that price. That's an extra appointment and another $85. Cannot stress enough- do not go to bumble and bumble for color. I took the L and lost all that money... never again. read more

I've been to Bumble and Bumble University three times so far for their free haircuts, and I've been very satisfied each time. The first time I went in for the razor bob, which was a really good experience. I liked my haircut and appreciated that my feedback was taken into consideration. I had a long bob and about 2-3 inches was taken off. They're very thorough in inspecting your hair so they understand the texture and the way it hangs. The second time I came in for a cut, there weren't enough stylists. Unfortunately, three never came back from lunch. The staff apologized, explained what had happened, immediately rescheduled me for next month, and offered a free hair product of my choice. A month later, I came in and asked to have 12 inches of hair taken off. I was thrilled with the results! Amber from San Jose was really attentive to me and asked lots of questions to determine what would fit my face shape, hair texture, and my general comfort level. She is supremely talented, and I'm thankful I landed in her chair. The instructor helping her was fantastic as well. She was supportive and encouraging towards Amber. Whenever a question arose, she was quick to help Amber without being a backseat driver. The school is very comfortable and airy with amazing views! They also have plenty of seating while you wait including some long communal tables where you can read a magazine. The bathroom is clean and roomy. Please be aware that the bathroom is non-gender specific. You might want to wait if you have a problem with that. However, I really appreciate their gender-neutral approach by marking the bathroom WC and directing guests to the Sitting and Standing areas. Overall, I think this is a great place to go for a haircut, especially if you're a bit adventurous. They definitely prefer when clients want to try something new. I had a Groupon here for 3 free hair products with a $112 haircut... I'm a California girl thinking "what haircut could be worth that much money?!" Boy, was a I wrong. When I got there, I was treated like a celebrity... this place is located at the highest level so you can see the entire city with a great view. I was offered a drink as I lounged on the plush couch gazing out. I was taken downstairs to get my haircut and it was one of those cuts where you think that the stylish didn't do much at all. 4 months later and I still love my hair. It was just layers to smooth out my hair and it is still shaped wonderfully. Beware: a once inch trim really equals 3 inches like at any other salon! They really know there stuff here. Haircuts, color, styling - everyone comes out looking phenomenal. And they should! The apprentice program to become a Bumble stylist is YEARS. The downtown location is beautiful. Amazing views and an impressive space. The color area is in the center of the floor so you don't have access to the windows, and they also don't have mirrors. I prefer the uptown salon to have my color done because they have amazing massage chairs at the sinks! read more

I got my haircut here a year ago, I didn't like my hair when I left and I haven't liked it since. When I was getting it cut I was asked if I liked volume in my hair, I told her "not really" and then she proceeded to "thin out" my hair which ultimately made it a poofy mess constantly filled with split ends. It's devastating, I had beautiful slick long hair and now it constantly looks like I just walked into a steam room. Even when I straighten it, it's so poofy and has a terrible texture. Just don't go here, the haircut is expensive and I've been living with the consequences since. I've even had haircuts since and told them to just cut off the length in an attempt to get my hair on the right track but seriously nothing has helped, my hair is completely ruined. read more

I echo the rave reviews but you should also know about the sick views! The salon is practically on the Hudson and has floor to ceiling windows facing south, southwest, north and northwest. I happened to have my first appointment here at sunset and it was like, I've never been in a building in New York with this kind of sunset view! Also, the salon, which takes up two whole floors is huge. It's so nice to be in a giant, airy space where things are actually spread out. That's so rare in Manhattan. I'd go as far as to say that even if you're not getting your hair cut here, it'd be worth it to get something at the cafe here and just watch the sun set. Oh, and I love my hair person from here enough to not want to give away her name. That is just asking for trouble. read more

Overpriced place and the staffs are not nice or accommodating. The manager is rude and arrogant. They are not open to any feedback /suggestions and gets defensive. I have to say I just went to Bumble & Bumble to Tzippy after going there 10+ years. She didn't do what i normally had done everytime before this, which was cool highlights. She actually turned my brown hair gold and auburn. Amazed at this treatment i spoke to her and said hey my hair is very golden what is this? and she said that is what she had to do. I am done with Bumble and Bumble - She owes me $300!!! I am outraged and I certainly don't pay for what she wants to do. Bumble & Bumble actually *refused* to cut my hair, saying it was too thick and there was too much of it. For their free "Model U" haircuts, you have to wait on line just to get evaluated, and then come back another time for the actual cut. I wish they had said in their little online form that thick hair had a likelihood of being rejected, because then I wouldn't have bothered. It was beyond the last straw. The only benefit I got from going was, to pick up some quick fashion ideas from the trendy, trendy clientele. I do wonder if I was rejected in part because I looked frumpy that day. (Don't look frumpy when you go. They are really shallow there.) Little do they know that the frumpy ones are often writers, and therefore naturally inclined to spread their thoughts around until everyone agrees. On the other hand considering all the Bumble loving up here, I think it'd be a lot of work. Gotta choose my battles... they can have this one. read more
